Wei Wuxian đ€ Maleficent: Not being invited to a child's birthday party but showing up anyways (to make things worse).
(for @youremysunshine8)
#poorly drawn mdzs#mdzs#jiang cheng#wei wuxian#jin ling#jin zixuan#jiang yanli#The joke here is that the glue is a 'curse'. The golden hat is now a party hat *forever*.#The prompt was just 'wwx celebartes jin ling's birthday' but what is an uncle if not a force to be reckoned with?#YLLZ would rock the Maleficent garments. I think we need to consider the implications of a possible crossover AU.#He would be *that* petty bitch who shows up uninvited like âoh...widdle old me didn't get to come? Get cursed idiots.â#This one comic sent me on a deep dive on the history of glue. There is a lot of history on glue.#Humans will see two objects and go 'I need to find a way to put those together'. Not to mention the amount of variety in glues.#I am now imagining the YLLZ doing his dark research on glue. The forbidden techniques to creating forever glue.#Glue so good it can piece a soul back together. Xue yang wishes he could get his hands on that recipe.

In the 1970s, excavations at the Newton Slave Burial Ground uncovered the grave of a man believed to be a healer or spiritual figure. He was buried with powerful objects: metal jewelry, an iron knife, and a short-stemmed clay pipe likely made in Ghana.
Among his burial items was a necklace made from a mix of beads, some with fascinating origins.
One glass bead, made with European powder glass, was probably crafted in Ghana.
Another, a cylindrical carnelian bead, came from Cambay, India ; a region known for carnelian bead production since the first millennium. These beads were traded through East Africa, across the Sahara, and into West Africa.
Other elements of the necklace could have been acquired in Barbados, but together they reflect a deep continuity of African cultural traditions in the Caribbean.
Scholar Jerome Handler used ethnographic sources from West Africa to interpret the necklace, and strongly argued that the man was likely seen as an obeah or healer by the enslaved community at Newton.
This burial is one of the most powerful archaeological cases for the survival of African spiritual identity through the horrors of the Middle Passage and slavery.

My Research: Why did you take these photos? These aren't relevant.
Me: They are. In my heart. Vaguely relevant.
My Research: What's with this random tree?

Me: It's a nanakamado.
My Research: And this photo of a photo of some little sprout?

Me: That's taranome.
My Research: It'd be one thing if it was just plants, but why did you take this photo of Togakure ninja training methods? This, among all those other photos?
Me: ...
My Research: "Headbutt Training"?!

#if Tanjiro was a Hashira and provided Hashira training#there was also a bloody photo of helping each other with this against a boulder#i did not interview any ninja#and a lot of this facility was to display old daily objects and crafts#like straw snowboots and bamboo baskets big enough to fit your demon sister inside of#though there are lots of other museums of old daily items and of ninja stuff#if you ever come to Japan please please please venture away from the big cities#there are so many good things to enjoy in the countryside#my exasperated unrelated research#my unrelated exasperated research

Maybe it is because I've been traveling a lot this year and dealing with visa shenanigans (nothing serious, don't worry), but every so often I think about how the modern world restricts ease of movement.
For example, one of the reasons people find The Return of Martin Guerre to be a fascinating book is because of how much that story couldn't happen now. Early modern people really could just pick up and start life over in another country just because they wanted to. Sure, technology limited how far you could go. But, it was possible.
Now I have to think long and hard about visas and citizenship and how long I've been in any particular place and report all of that to the government. And they can figure that out with the technology in my passport anyway, even if I didn't tell them.
There is much that I don't envy about the early modern world, or even the 19th century (which is my bread and butter), but they really don't make émigré life like they used to.
#my austrian residency permit expires this summer#and im already thinking hard about how to get back to Europe#and it's because i need this for my research#like look#i think both âthe past was objectively terribleâ and âthe past was so much betterâ are politically loaded tales#but i cannot stress how modern this amount of tracking and being accounted for is

the vampire community breathing a sigh of relief when Armand + Daniel are back together, like thank god maybe a happy-and-in-love!Armand will be less of a menace, but joke's on them bc Daniel just encourages and/or joins him in whatever batshit chaos Armand causes

I grabbed a bunch of screenshots of the wheelchairs in bloodborne (used by the huntsmen, seen as background objects in medical wards) so I'm putting them here in case anyone needed very specific references
I have more angles if you so desire but I can't put more than 10 here
#the antenna sticking out has an IV attached to it. quite cute#bloodborne#this is specifically the hunstmen ver because i havent found a way to inspect objects as closely yet#but afaik theres no difference between them#also this is the self ambulatory chair. there is amother type of wheelchair used in the research hall#(and maybe other places? i dont remember) that is more akin to one of those flimsy push-only hospital chairs

i was watching bride of reanimator with my dad and he was like "it's weird that the super scientific one thinks the heart contains a soul/personality" and im like
shit, yeah :0
i can't imagine herbert actually believed he could make someone even remotely similar to meg. his field of study when he was still a remotely respectable scientist was neurology (and iirc somwthing to do w brain death)
something about him proposing such an uncharacteristically unscientific concept just to keep dan from leaving him rlly scratches an itch in my brain
like ouuufghvvh the desperation goes so hard

the main reason i can't get behind the whole "chris is way" theory is because chris is a (probably highly certified) scientist who seems to know what he's talking about when it comes to research and i doubt way could get that acquainted with alpha genetics in the one year he's been dead
#look i'm aware that chris somehow looking like way is an objectively crazier theory but#it just doesn't make sense#though i might be biased because i am way's no 1 hater but#idk chris has to know what he's doing when it comes to his research#k watches pitbabe 2#pitbabe#pit babe the series#pbts 2#way pit babe#chris pit babe

More Jazz Forms (click for clarity)
TW: disturbing content, body horror
1) Head only Jazz
+ She is a head that walks on a bunch of mysterious tentacles. Sheâs inspired by a CN novel called âLet the Villain Goâ in a chapter where a demon pops up and is described as a head that walks on tentacles (I may be delulu and remembered it wrong).
+ Around 900 feet tall. Most of the height is her tentacles, but her head is still around 100 feet tall.
+ Jason is a little obsessed with how huge she is. When he is away, she stays standing over his apartment like a creepy water storage tank. Nobody can see her except liminals and ghosts, so she remains undetected by Jasonâs side.
+ She is generally peaceful and doesnât move much. She is a relatively quiet being with no explicit ability to defend herself or attack. I imagine her to be very dreamy, despite her piercing stare.
2) Celestial Object Jazz
+ She is a quasi-stellar radio source, AKA a quasar :)
+ Impossibly large and infinite. She is so big that her gravitational pull is pulling apart a piece of the universe. Jason thinks that sheâs beautiful, and he looks for her every night. He uses special technology to see her on Earth and when he can, he sneaks onto the Watchtower to look at her.
+ The mass of the black hole that she is made of is around 150 billion solar masses. She is located extremely far from the Milky Way within the largest galaxy of the universe. Since she is technically both the black hole and the gas that surrounds it, she wonât be fading for awhile.
+ Her origin is unknown in this idea (but is related to her siblings, who have all become celestial objects themselves). Her existence is extremely old and that is partially Clockworkâs fault.
3) Corrupted Jazz
+ She has become corrupted from years of ectoplasm, death, and generally instability. The tentacles that come from her stomach is actually just pieces of her soul that are trying to reach for others. She calls for help, but no one but Jason has been reaching out.
+ She cannot be around people for too long, or she causes insanity, violent mood swings, headaches, auditory and visual hallucinations, paranoia, nosebleeds, and general weakness, even if they cannot see her. Jason is somewhat resistant to her, but she heavily restrains herself so the effects of her existence wonât hurt him.
+ She tries to stay away from Jason, but bc sheâs so clingy, she watches him from a distance. Her presence brings shadows and darkness, so heâs also been getting a reputation of scaring criminals to pissing themselves whenever he comes by.
+ Her body is covered in shadows, but she glows a little from the ectoplasm, so her silhouette can be vaguely seen.
4) Monochrome Jazz
+ Inspired by Lady Dimitrescu and Hachishakusama
+ She dresses in all black and her skin is pale as well. A hat and face mask cover all available skin on her face. Any skin below the neck is also covered.
+ She is around 9 feet tall. She stalks Jason whenever she can and always follows him around. She is extremely hostile and dangerous and does not hesitate to attack when she feels even the slightest bit threatened. She is also completely mute.
+ She is both a ghost and an urban legend, hence why she looks like that. Underneath her mask is a mouth of razor sharp teeth like a moray eel.
5) Wolf Jazz
+ Inspired by Jasonâs Red Hood motif that is similar to Little Red Riding Hood. Thatâs also why I associate Jazz with so many canine themes :)
+ Black fur, several pairs of eyes, and two sets of deformed ears. I am debating whether or not she also has 3 pairs of legs.
+ She follows Jason around like a dog, but does not behave like a pet. As such, he canât order her around unless she wants to listen to him. Thankfully, she likes cooperating with him and the two of them terrorize the criminals of Crime Alley.
+ She is around 5 feet tall when standing on all fours, but when she stands up on her hind legs, she is around 9 feet tall. She is very fluffy.

technology in teyvat is weird because you can't even call it techological advancement because their tech isn't advancing, it's regressing. they're not discovering new ways to do things, they are actively trying to rebuild tech thatvexisted hundreds if not thousands of years ago that no one fucking remembers how to make anymore.
like. it's actually really interesting how most of the high-tech things came from either immortals or a long dead civilization. in liyue, the adepti are the tech innovators, particularly guizhong and cloud retainer. even ningguang's jade chamber needed adepti sigils to be made. nearly all of inazuma's tech leads directly back to ei or khaenri'ah. the akasha was built by the dendro archon. fontaine's power was built by focalors and the fontaine research institute takes heavy inspiration from deshert's civilization. the entirety of natlan is Like That because they're the only civilization that still has a direct historic connection with the dragons.
and i think this does make the role of the archons a lot more interesting. they're not just guiding humanity in a nebulous way. they are the literal bridge between the more modern and very dead civilizations and the existing nations. there is a danger to discovery in teyvat. all the ancient civilizations fell because they learned too much. so now, humanity is not discovering, they are recreating. and the archons job is to facilitate that recreation so that humans themselves arent doing it. they can study history but only to an extent.
#ara rambles#genshin impact#it also puts both mond and snezhnaya in a really interesting position tho#like dottore is committing blasphemy his research is antithetical to what is allowed#cause its objectively evil but also because it goes too far#and the cryo archon is not stopping him and possibly encouraging him#mond on the other hand is the least modern because they have zero guidance from immortalss#i mean one might argue they dont need it because venti is actually more likely to intervene when shit hits the fan#compared to other archons specifically because of mond's lack of technology and ability to defend itself on their own#but thats a whole other discussion
