What doctor who monster do you think has the most wasted potential?
i like hide and think it's cute that its janky looking monster is just lost and wants to get home, but a while back i found out that the original pitch was about time lord who had been rotting away in the dimensional woods and wanted to cannibalize the doctor in order to give himself new life and escape

Part of why I continue to come back to the original three Lord of the Rings films, despite their many faults, is that they’re not trying to be part of a “cinematic universe?” They are great because they are complete, and self-contained. They have a beginning, middle, and end. They have a clarity of purpose: they know exactly what they want to say and they say it, all within the movies themselves. They have a clear focused narrative with a clear focused message. They build things up and pay them off, and only pay off things they’ve actually built up.
You don’t need to have consumed any of the extended media to understand what’s happening. You don’t need to watch the writers flounder around struggling to find a central theme to their story after it’s already 8 seasons and hundreds of millions of dollars into production, rather than figuring out what they wanted to say at the very beginning of the process. And you don’t need to wait for a spinoff to follow up on the ideas the LOTR movies bring up—- because the movies themselves follow up on their own ideas. Because they are a complete, clear, tight, focused, streamlined, thematically cohesive narrative written by people who knew what they wanted to write and what message they wanted to send, and then Did That.
I’ve got to admit: I’m very tired of “stories” that aren’t actually stories, but a collection of empty commercials for their own spin-offs. I’m tired of tv shows/movies that bring up ideas they never intended to explore, because the projects weren’t planned in advance and the writers were haphazardly making things up as they went along and abandoning significant thematic ideas the moment they got bored of them. I’m tired of endless empty hollow Lore without meaning.
I love it when fantasy stories are streamlined narratives that have beginnings, and endings, and a clarity of purpose! But I guess that’s just life sometimes.

love how Solar Opposites started out as a sitcom about two aliens who can't stand each other, stuck with their teenage clones (whom they also can't stand) & a toddler antichrist (whom they view as a sort of self-sufficient free-roaming hamster?) on a stupid planet they can't stand
and 4 seasons later it's a sitcom about a family of genderqueer aliens, headed by a gay couple in a happy & horny open marriage (with a graphic off-screen sex life, despite their canonical lack of genitalia?) teaching themselves to be okay parents to their 3 kids (whose Sci-Fi Antics now slightly-less-frequently revolve around wreaking havoc on human bystanders, and slightly-more-frequently revolve around alien-clone-sibling-bonding*), to the point that the central plot point becomes "We need to provide our toddler antichrist with a stable home environment."
(also the grumpy alien husband is too busy ingratiating his family with their suburban neighbors to even remember whom or what he dislikes. what is this show)

Sometimes a family is you, your best friend, a guy you threatened once, the butch cop who arrested you a few weeks ago, an anti-social scientist you didn't know was living in your basement until recently, a random 19th-Century professor you picked up while time-traveling, and your female counterpart from another universe with whom you share a complicated romantic history.
Gosh I love Sci-Fi.

Most of the girls in my class completely missed the moment when the world began to end.
(This is a redraw of a screencap from one of the episodes. Please watch this show if you haven’t, it’s so good)

binged solar opposites and it's come to my attention that i forgot about how much i love tervo. a completely canon, not subtext, not subtle, bonafide romance between 2 male leads developing over the seasons is wild. we get to watch them fall in love! they go from "friends" to kissing (and etc), to throwing around the word husband, to actually getting earth married. then they proceed to throw the word around even more and literally change the orbit of the earth to keep their honeymoon going like hello
the what if device is probably one of my favorite episodes and i was not a big fan of the idea of them having another team member. but korvo wanted to be with terry in that timeline too, and they were kept apart by a commander that actually got the mission done. which has been korvos ultimate goal for the whole series! but he decides fuck the original timestream because in this one he's got a little family with the love of his life, and they're more important to him than the mission! fucking around with the fabric of space and time so you can keep your soulmate is actually so iconic
also before they found out what the What If actually was, this is what korvo thought happened

I can't help but be a little disappointed about the lack of insight in stranger things characters, and I know, trust me I know that it's a sci-fi show and the plot focuses in explaining the supernatural events and their roots but I just wished they touched more upon the characters struggles (like will being queer) bc I feel like everything is so "subtle" (not really but you get what I mean) and we don't get to really understand what's going inside the characters minds most of the time
