I was rambling on the issue of museums and human remains and how certain populations are more likely to have their bodies put on display to be gawked at and then went "well I guess the Pompeii casts were of Europeans. there are bones in there right?" and Googled it to make sure, at which point I confirmed that yes there are bones in there, but more interestingly DNA testing revealed that a cast of an adult holding a child everyone assumed was a mother and child were, in fact, a man and a kid entirely unrelated to him. Honestly that's more moving to me. Maybe they were connected in a way other than blood, but maybe a stranger saw a child when the world was ending and thought the one thing he could do was hold them.
#or maybe he was the babysitter. idk#crack open a pompeii cast like a kinder egg and there's teeth in there#now personally if people wanted to put my bones on display I'd be cool with it#maybe I'll decide to donate myself to science idk. I don't want to be used to practice face lifts though...#writing in my will 'if someone wants to have my skull on their bookshelf that's fine. put a candle inside it'#why this

TW: Heavily implied Child Abuse
Stowaway AU where Pacifica becomes a stowaway on the Stan-O-War 2 after trying to run away from home to California. Things don’t exactly work out as planned, but at least she’s got a “Summer Internship” away from her parents now!
#gravity falls#Pacifica Northwest#Stanley Pines#Stanford Pines#Stowaway AU#my art#doodles#sorry I’ve been gone a while been busy with project and just plain general work#but had some free time today and finally put pen to paper on an idea I’ve had a for a while now!#Pacifica calls Stan by his name but still calls Ford Mr Pines because she’s got that ettiquette and fear of authority ingrained in her#but Stan is a bugger so she feels better just calling him Stan lol#this is honestly just a roundabout way of saying Stan is naturally good with kids I think#the more paternal grunkle lol#Also I feel like ghost rules in the show are ghosts can change their perception based on how powerful they are#since sometimes they’re invisible or unseen by people unless the ghost wills it (i.e. inconveniencing)#but Pacifica’s just too ghost pilled so she’s always seeing them regardless#Ford is very interested in the science of how this works and Stan has to remind him she’s still trying to get over trauma give her a second#I feel like after this summer at least specifically for this AU she’d end up staying with either Soo and Melody or the Corduroys#Soos might even say they’re siblings since he also sees Stan as a father figure and then Pacifica says ‘dang guess I gotta go die now’#from embarrassment lol

Don't worry, they're into that.

#tiger tiger#ludovica bonnaire#luck#I feel a strong need to loudly resume my Tiger's propaganda to remind people that the comic is BACK.#It technically never left but it's here and it's still a deeply queer and delightful story set on the high seas.#There has been a lot going on behind the scenes for the creator and if you love art and comics - please consider supporting this one.#Petra works so hard to create amazing comics! And the community is so wonderful!#Join us! Join us on the high seas!#I admit to having taking a hiatus from reading for a while...I am going to make up for it as much as I can.#Sausage is so delightfully *shaped*...I too would doll them up like Ludo did.#This comic has been in my wips for ages - I still feel like I couldn't pull off what I wanted but done is better than nothing at all.#I want to yell about them so badly but I'm simply not equipped to draw the cool ancient god stuff. I'm trying....I will learn...#They are both the hot girlfriend letting the other do mad science on the other. No other way to describe it.

Hey are you willing to BLAST Kat Bolstad’s page on the AUT website? She’s the researcher who voiced over the colossal squid video and it’s making me so mad that people’s hatred of generative AI is so strong that they’re trying to crowd out an incredible cephalopod researcher who frankly speaks with a similar cadence to David Attenborough (those documentary skills!!!) especially during a time where we need to encourage women in STEM. This is the real damage generative AI is doing.

You know what I hate about the internet? Sometimes people will just lazily slap a “citation” on an infographic and trust that they’ll be completely taken at their word and nobody is going to dig deeper. And it works all the time. As an example, please look at this photo someone posted to dispute my assertion that garlic can be toxic to dogs.

Okay well, kind of a pain to manually type in that link but obviously I am going to look into this study that is confident enough to recommend people feeding their dogs garlic. So here’s the article, kind of a weird journal choice for this graphic to reference from but looks like a legit (though 20 year old) study

Funny thing is, almost immediately this article acknowledges that garlic can indeed be toxic to dogs. The health benefits mentioned in the graphic are referring to human health, not canine. This section is literally in the introduction of the article and one of the first things you read. Emphasis here is mine.

Crazy to me that someone would imply that this article encourages giving dogs garlic when it in fact immediately asserts that doing so has the potential to cause hemolytic anemia. The article does explore the anti-thrombotic effects of garlic components in dogs and humans, but by no means does it say that “contrary to misconceptions garlic is safe for pets”. It is dishonest to assert this in an infographic. However the creator of the image correctly assumed nobody would check, because the person who posted it took it as fact without further investigation.
I am begging you to be skeptical. Check your sources. Check their sources. Check my sources. Learn how to dig deeper and exercise that muscle as much as you can, especially on the internet. You will be absolutely shocked how much misinformation is casually stated and received as pure fact.
#scicomm#vetblr#veterinary medicine#I already know people are going to say they like giving their dogs garlic and will continue to do so- whatever pls just don’t tell me 😭#sorry if the link doesn’t work for you you may need access#dogs#pets#science literacy#biology

THIS WAS ON A FRIEND’S PAGE: An anguished question from a Trump supporter: ‘Why do liberals think Trump supporters are stupid?’
THE SERIOUS ANSWER: Here’s what the majority of anti-Trump voters honestly feel about Trump supporters en masse:
That when you saw a man who had owned a fraudulent University, intent on scamming poor people, you thought "Fine."
That when you saw a man who had made it his business practice to stiff his creditors, you said, "Okay."
That when you heard him proudly brag about his own history of sexual abuse, you said, "No problem."
That when he made up stories about seeing Muslim-Americans in the thousands cheering the destruction of the World Trade Center, you said, "Not an issue."
That when you saw him brag that he could shoot a man on Fifth Avenue and you wouldn't care, you exclaimed, "He sure knows me."
That when you heard him relating a story of an elderly guest of his country club, an 80-year old man, who fell off a stage and hit his head, to Trump replied: “‘Oh my God, that’s disgusting,’ and I turned away. I couldn’t—you know, he was right in front of me, and I turned away. I didn’t want to touch him. He was bleeding all over the place. And I felt terrible, because it was a beautiful white marble floor, and now it had changed color. Became very red.” You said, "That's cool!"
That when you saw him mock the disabled, you thought it was the funniest thing you ever saw.
That when you heard him brag that he doesn't read books, you said, "Well, who has time?"
That when the Central Park Five were compensated as innocent men convicted of a crime they didn't commit, and he angrily said that they should still be in prison, you said, "That makes sense."
That when you heard him tell his supporters to beat up protesters and that he would hire attorneys, you thought, "Yes!"
That when you heard him tell one rally to confiscate a man's coat before throwing him out into the freezing cold, you said, "What a great guy!"
That you have watched the parade of neo-Nazis and white supremacists with whom he curries favor, while refusing to condemn outright Nazis, and you have said, "Thumbs up!"
That you hear him unable to talk to foreign dignitaries without insulting their countries and demanding that they praise his electoral win, you said, "That's the way I want my President to be."
That you have watched him remove expertise from all layers of government in favor of people who make money off of eliminating protections in the industries they're supposed to be regulating and you have said, "What a genius!"
That you have heard him continue to profit from his businesses, in part by leveraging his position as President, to the point of overcharging the Secret Service for space in the properties he owns, and you have said, "That's smart!"
That you have heard him say that it was difficult to help Puerto Rico because it was in the middle of water and you have said, "That makes sense."
That you have seen him start fights with every country from Canada to New Zealand while praising Russia and quote, "falling in love" with the dictator of North Korea, and you have said, "That's statesmanship!"
That Trump separated children from their families and put them in cages, managed to lose track of 1500 kids, has opened a tent city incarceration camp in the desert in Texas - he explains that they’re just “animals” - and you say, “Well, OK then.”
That you have witnessed all the thousand and one other manifestations of corruption and low moral character and outright animalistic rudeness and contempt for you, the working American voter, and you still show up grinning and wearing your MAGA hats and threatening to beat up anybody who says otherwise.
What you don't get, Trump supporters, is that our succumbing to frustration and shaking our heads, thinking of you as stupid, may very well be wrong and unhelpful, but it's also...hear me...charitable.
Because if you're NOT stupid, we must turn to other explanations, and most of them are less flattering.

I'm pretty sure I remember seeing a fandom post talking about Bashir having had some kind of brain surgery to make him the Smartest Guy Ever but I am eight episodes in and I have yet to see any evidence of this guy being smarter than my rabbit that tried to eat shoes
#for legal reasons this is a joke#i am aware that being smart at science does not make you smart at taking to people in a way that doesn't give me secondhand embarassment#god bless my himbo son#ds9#deep space nine#ds9 bashir

Like sorry I'm not finished but the reason the left is so obsessed with historical revisionism and "proving" that Jews are faking the thousands of years of archeological, historical, cultural, and genetic evidence that overwhelmingly proves the Jews are indigenous to Israel. Is because they ascribe to an absolutely batshit crazy worldview in which indigenous people are very literally allowed to indiscriminately murder civilians and even commit genocide against any population that has been labeled as "colonizers." And while the insane hypocrisy and denial of obvious facts of history is crazy frustrating, the main issue here is not that they won't acknowledge Jews are indigenous to Israel. It's that they think you can determine which people one can acceptably murder based on their DNA.
#gingerswagfreckles#antisemitism#leftist antisemitism#jumblr#also lol they see the pictures coming out of gaza and go wow thats horrible (naturally)#and yet if they acknowledged the overwhelming proof that jews are indigenous to Israel#according to their own world view. all the human rights violations happening in gaza should be acceptable or even celebrated.#which is ofc crazy#and they know that#but instead of perhaps reconsidering this insane idea#that defining people as indigenous or colonizers#gives one the right to just murder the ~colonizers~#instead they just go into mega turbo science history denial to define the jews as colonizers#because i guess that is less threatening to the crazy online leftist persona they adopted over the past ten years#than acknowledging that every person is an individual and has individual human rights#and no human being deserves to be murdered for being born somewhere a different group things they dont belong#wtf
