"How many spells can my 124th-level cleric cast?"
We all used the same books to play very different games and called them all D&D.
(Sage Advice column by Skip Williams featuring AD&D 1e magic spells, Dragon 145, May 1989)

There is a grief rarely talked about, one that is felt as deeply as any other, a truth we may ignore until we can ignore it no longer.
Grief for the person we once were, the life we once lived, the dreams we once held.
When a part of us dies as we breathe and we learn to live again in new ways, we often forget that grief can live there as well.
Be kind to yourself as the leaves fall, and new seasons emerge from the cold.
Compassion for yourself is a gift that speaks louder than words.

DHAJ 392: Kill The Part That Cringes
John: I remember like the first 20 or 30 times I smoked a cigarette being like, “This just sucks, like I don’t like the way that I feel right now. I feel different, but not in a positive way.” And then eventually I got to the point that I think I was trying to get to from the beginning, where I just had a problem, and the problem was that I needed a cigarette, and the solution was to have a cigarette, and like, the joy of resolving that problem was the high, rather than whatever little high came with the smoking. Hank: Oh man, it would be nice to be able to just solve a problem by grabbing something and turning on a lighter. John: Well, I mean, it does create a new problem. Hank: It then creates a number of larger problems that are not easy to solve. John: But there’s a reason I smoked so much for so long, which is that--you know. Yeah. But now, like, my life is in danger because of something stupid I did when I was a kid, so. You know. There’s that side of it. Hank: That is such an interesting way to talk about--’cause I have this, too. But with the things I am addicted to, which is, you know, mostly social media. Where like, the thing that I like about it? Is that it’s an easy way to solve a problem, and the problem is that I am bored. And that’s an interesting way of thinking about--certainly not all of addiction--but kind of maybe a bit of a trigger for it, which is, like, it is nice to have a problem that it is easy to solve. Or at least fast to solve. [...] Hank: And you know, obviously I used social media a LOT when I was sick, like I was on Twitter a LOT. And, I think that that’s part of it. And then the thing that really helped me get out of it was working instead on private projects, or working on my stand-up, instead, which was like, oh, I’m getting something out of this without it being public, and also I’m watching all of this stand-up comedy that’s like, very interesting to me, to figure out how these comedians are doing the work that they do? To try and understand the art, and the craft of it? That became interesting to me, and it was a lifeline that I just sort of held onto, and I was like, “I can’t let go of this thing because I actually am interested in it, and like, I am interested in nothing else. I can’t get interested in TV shows, or video games--this is doing it for me for some reason?” And I just like, held on and didn’t let go. To the only thing that was providing me any interest at all. John: Other than the internet, other than being on Twitter-- Hank: And that’s so hard. I had never experienced that before. John: I agree with you; it’s really hard. And I also think you make a good point that a lot of times the way out, like, I feel the way out is like, “Rest. I need rest.” But of course, like, I also need to be doing stuff that brings me fulfillment and makes me feel connected, and doesn’t kind of put me further and further into the place of, you know, deep, deep aloneness.

What is an unreliable narrator?
An unreliable narrator is a POV character (or POV narration) that KNOWS and CHOOSES TO WITHHOLD vital information from the audience. This information is often revealed later, in order to fundamentally reframe the narrative the audience has experienced until that point.
An unreliable narrator is not a POV character withholding information from other characters, nor is it POV narration that is telling a story through a biased or emotionally tinted point of view (unless that bias is causing them to hide important information from the audience)
For example...
(spoilers for a few classic stories of the American canon ahead)
We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson:
✅ UNRELIABLE NARRATOR! Merricat knows exactly who killed her family (she did) and does not tell the reader. Learning this reframes her behavior towards her remaining family as willful manipulation, and her dislike of her cousin Charles as (partially) a desire to keep her secret hidden -- though he's also a massive dick.
The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gillman:
❌ NOT AN UNRELIABLE NARRATOR! The narrator of The Yellow Wallpaper knows about as much as we the audience do. We are experiencing her slide into paranoia and mental decline with her. Although it is horrifying to realize that the "smooch" along the wall is probably a mark left by a former inmate of the room, this discovery serves to heighten feelings of disgust and fear that we were already experiencing rather than creating them.
Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk
✅ UNRELIABLE NARRATOR! It's arguable whether or not the unnamed narrator of Fight Club knows that Tyler Durden is a figment of his imagination. However, the narration knows this and chooses to keep that fact from us. Hints are sprinkled throughout the story that Tyler isn't who he seems, but they're only legible once we have the big puzzle piece. This turns the Narrator from a disaffected dude worn out by capitalism who falls under the sway of a charming sociopath – in other words, someone in whom we might see ourselves – into that very sociopath.
The first Pirates of the Caribbean movie ⁽ᵈᶦᵈ ʸᵒᵘ ʳᵘⁿ ᵒᵘᵗ ᵒᶠ ᵐᵒʳᵉ ᵇᵒᵒᵏ ᵉˣᵃᵐᵖˡᵉˢˀ ᴵᵗ'ˢ ᵃ ᴹᵒⁿᵈᵃʸ ᵐᵒʳⁿᶦⁿᵍ ˢʰᵘᵗ ᵘᵖ⁾
❌ NOT AN UNRELIABLE NARRATOR! Oooh boy, we learn a lot of spicy secrets in PotC! Immortal skeleton pirates are real, Elizabeth Swann's blood can't cure them, Jack takes a coin to also become a skeleton pirate... etc. Captain Jack knows a lot of these facts and doesn't share them with the class, but crucially: he's not our narrator. Elizabeth is. We find out these facts at the same time that she does, and our understanding of the world of the film changes at the same time as hers. We even get to see her being mega-pissed at Jack for not sharing crucial information. We do know that Will Turner is in love with her before she does, but she's not hiding that information from us – she's just a dumb teen who doesn't understand a crush.
Now that you're in the know, go forth and write some mind bending unreliable shit! I love you!

chapter six excerpt:
Reigen nudges him with an elbow. “So you read my column.” “I did. Last night. Um. And again when I woke up this morning. And while I was waiting at the mall. I didn’t want to miss anything.” “It was better, right? I knew I was onto something even while I was typing it. Definitely the best one I’ve done so far.” Reigen pauses mid-bloviation. “That’s what I thought. You liked it, right?” Serizawa doesn’t say anything right away, but the line of his mouth twitches like an EKG reading.  Reigen deflates. “Right?”
