winter/holiday fairy tail headcanons

♡ lyon ice skates like a prince. he's been banned from multiple skating rinks for distracting skaters with his beauty and causing crashes.

♡ gray, on the other hand, couldn't skate to save his life. he says it's because he's used to controlling the ice, not the other way around. lyon never lets him live this down and will skate circles around gray as he tries to waddle across the rink.

♡ at one point, fairy tail decided to have a snowman building competition. wendy, asuka, and biska team up to create the roundest, cutest, most quintessential snowman you'll ever see. lisanna and juvia carve an eldritch abomination out of ice and snow. it scares a few of the kids in Magnolia, but no one has the heart to tell them off when they look so happy.

♡ they also have an ice sculpture competition. gray is not allowed to participate and has been allocated to decorating the guild hall plus judging the ice sculptures. erza requips into heaven's wheel armor and attacks an ice cube with blumenblatt. she makes a sword. apparently dragon slayers have indestructible teeth, and fairy tail finds this out when gajeel straight up chomps the ice into a sculpture of a fat cat (he wins.)

♡ mirajane has been fighting a losing battle trying to organize gift giving at fairy tail. trying to do a giant secret santa just doesn't work, and everyone splits into smaller groups anyway. ultimately, she decides on tracking who's getting gifts for who and making sure no one goes without a present. mira carefully selects a few people every year to help her with this endeavor (lucy always volunteers to help)

♡ fairy tail's holiday celebrations last for almost a month. members of other guilds are often seen in Magnolia around this time as everyone gets together. fairy tail has one huge guild party towards the ends where everyone exchanges gifts.

♡ without fail, every year, laxus dresses up as santa. it started when he lost a bet to mira in their teenage years, and he was very, very embarrassed by the whole thing. now, though he'd never admit it, he looks forward to seeing the little kids of Magnolia light up when they see him.

It's a mix canon headcanons, theories and interpretations so everyone is free to disagree with stuff, also keep in mind I am not into all these series so I am not an expert and a lot of these was made through research.

Creation deities and fundamental concepts of the universe:

Shad the destroyer - could have put him with the chaos gods but this feels like a better placement.

It's been a wild few months here at theInstaGrahame HQ, but what never fails to make me happy is the rad games I get from the mail. I'm getting over a cold, so I'mma work on this instead of anything productive I could be doing!

Here's my month of RPG mail calls, and why I'm hyped!

Coriolis: The Last Cyclade: I've been curious about Coriolis' Middle Eastern-themed sci-fi vibes for a while, so I put this on a Secret Santa wishlist; and this is what I got! Excited to dive in.

Curios: Albrecht Manor and Jasper Park: Good Luck Press is one of those game design teams I'll try anything from, and the pitch for this is really unique. It's not an RPG per se, as much as a collection of books, papers, maps, and other materials that point toward a mystery you get to figure out. Playing it is just... looking through stuff.

Salvage Union: I am a big fan of post-apocalyptic media, and a fan of the mecha genre. So, yeah, this was an easy sell. It's built on the Quest system, which I've been meaning to get more into anyway, and it looks like a mech repair manual!

The Zone (which I apparently thought people would just recognize): This game is available for free online, but the box set is gorgeous, and features some designers I love. Trying to set up an online session soon, but I do really want to play it in person.

Deimos Academy: Honestly, I picked it up because of the creative team, but also the pitch is great. I skipped my high school reunion, but if there was a chance to go back and face a monster? I might've thought about going.

Brindlewood Bay + Nephews in Peril: I was originally just going to get the super popular Elderly Detectives Solve Eldritch Crimes RPG, but the title of the expansion/mystery book was just too perfect.

Rebels f the Outlaw Wastes: I've already mentioned I like post-apocalyptica? Well, this took a neat approach to achievements/leveling that I was super intrigued by, and I just dig the fun vibe. The reason I like post-apocalyptic media is that it's hopeful, and this feels moreso than a lot of other stuff.

Skyrealms Almanac and Creatures and Folks: I've been into setting guides this past year. And like, this one is also a coloring book? Hell yeah.

Stoneburner: I've been following the creator on Twitter and elsewhere for a while, so I was curious about this title. But definitely sold when they talked about some of the inspiration being the original Starcraft games.

Forgery: Again, picked it up because I really like Banana Chan's work, but this is a paint-by-numbers solo RPG about forging a demonic painting. So like, yeah. That's rad.

Vast Grimm: Space Cruisers: Vast Grimm is Mork Borg in Space, but I'm also a big fan of ship catalogs, so I really wanted to check this one out.

.Dungeon: Everything Snow makes is beautiful, queer, and nostalgic, so when they mentioned a re-release of .Dungeon was coming, I really wanted to check it out. I have a lot of nostalgia for the

Cloud Empress (everything, including a patch!): I mean, you say Nausicaa and I'm listening. This has some roots in that world, but also does some really interesting things with the Mothership game engine. I'm especially intrigued by the notion of replacing racial traits with age traits, and having a series of pretty mundane jobs as the classes.

Layers of Unreality: The first of this month's Zine Club deliveries! I keep hearing about Liminal Horror, and this particular module I've heard nothing but incredible things about. So I'm really hyped to check out what happens in these backrooms.

Fear the Taste of Blood: My second Zine Club book this month! Kayla Dice is one of those really rad creators who I think deserves more attention than she gets, so I'm really hyped to dive into this take on classic movie monsters.

I also got this from my partner's family's Secret Santa.

Okami is one of those games that sticks with me, and has ever since I first saw images from it, and played it. It's a genuinely beautiful experience, and while it's maybe not a game everyone will like, it's one that I really enjoy, and the art is a big part of that.

It stands out as an example of what you can do with a video game that's nearly impossible with most other art forms, and also a reason that I don't think the Arms Race for More Photorealistic Graphics in video game consoles is worth the effort.

hermie got normal. they made him a custom teeny the teen x chapperal bull dog enemies to lovers screenplay that was handwritten. normal almost cried about it (after everyone left he proceeded to talk on the phone with linc taylor and scary about how "this must mean hermie likes me!!" and the rest of them were trying not to kill him through the phone)

linc got hermie. he did NOT want to give them anything and tried not to audibly groan when he picked their name. he got them a small joker keychain and riddler slippers. hermie also flirted with linc like the entire time and everyone hated it.

dood got linc. dood got linc a small soccer ball keychain and new cleats, not much to say about this one, it was just a sweet wholesome moment

taylor got dood. taylor had absolutely no idea what to get an eldritch god so he just got them something he would've wanted for christmas which was a body pillow. dood did not fully understand what they were supposed to do with it but still cried because this is the first gift they'd ever received

scary got taylor. she bought him a hatsune miku figure but it was bootlegged, taylor pretended not to care about how cheap the figure was but definitely talked shit about the gift to linc who just slowly nodded the entire time (he did really appreciate her effort though)

normal got scary. normal got her a plethora of makeup and jewlery that scary had offhandedly mentioned throughout the year. he also got her a t shirt for her favorite band and some black nail polish because like 4 months ago she mentioned running low. (normal has a google doc of things to get his friends and anytime they mention ANYTHING they might want he writes it down) scary pretended to be chill about it and just patted normal on the shoulder and said thank you but in reality she was about to cry

These were all from my recent trip to Kansas, which has the absolute best antique malls. But, as with all antique joints, they are still full to the brim with frights beyond our comprehension. Here are just a few quick glimpses of Hell.

Before Danny realized, his ghost form has already gotten too Eldritch for the mortal sense.

Ever since his coronation as King of the Infinite Realms, he been hearing whisper that nobody seem to hear, it tell him things, stuff that no mortal should ever know, and he listens, not consciously at first, a little reality bending here, a little time manipulation there, and suddenly his life is whatever he wants it to be, influencing people emotions and perception of him without realizing.

Danny found out on Christmas. His parents didn't argue this time, as first he was overjoyed, happy that they has finally get over their Santa debate, he ask them about it, when did they finally get over it?, they didn't understand what he mean, "Never has they ever fight over Santa existence" they said, "That is absurd, Santa's not real" dad emphasize.

Now I can bring up my beloved Vault-Tec Rep. Him in the Death Shroud? Perfect. Beautiful. Stunning. I no longer have to call him Paul Eiding as a very direct nod to his VO. Our Beloved David Dwecker is married to Sheffield and they have a house in Sanctuary filled with Nuka-Cola memorabilia (for Sheffield) and collectable plates (the kind grandmothers display for our lovely Rep). They have a little sitting area set up in the carport where they hangout, smoke, and dance together to Diamond City Radio. I need this for my mental health okay?

Shaun being Autistic is something I really want to explore. I truly forget who I first saw say this but it is not an original idea by any means. I also think the poor thing would have some level of trauma from everything so exploring that is gonna be fun! (no it will not oh my god I'm going to dredge up all my childhood issues.)

OHHHH CHRISTMAS. YULETIDE. FEAST OF ST. NICHOLAS. I find the "Seth Patrick" bit SO funny in Death Shroud so that is staying but also I feel like the feast of St. Nicholas got jokingly flipped into a celebration of Nick Valentine (Same with Valentine's Day) and people are beginning to forget the correct version. Nick tolerates it with an eye roll and a wry joke about people needing to read their history books but secretly finds the whole thing funny. Ellie has a santa suit for Nick to don during "his" holiday. Also the school children in Diamond City send Nick "Valentines" on valentines day and he displays them on his corkboard.

Music. My god the Johnny Guitar bit had me by the throat during Death Shroud. Expand those music libraries! Before you know it I'm gonna give Travis a rolling ladder attached to bookcases upon bookcases of records and holotapes. I want to hear people complain about how many Andrews Sisters records survived and God why won't Travis stop playing them!

The Flavor of Goodneighbor needs to be so complex. Like a good pasta sauce. I better be so overcome by the layers and smells and textures. Better Goodneighbor and Better Third Rail are really good starts but I'm expanding the shit out of both of them I think. I want to feel like Goodneighbor truly is dangerous to be in. Being able to cross most of the town in one sprint burst isn't cutting it Bethany Esda! Make it truly baffling how Hancock knows so much about the happenings in his town.

- 8. are about the BoS and I stand by them. You will get to meet my Lone Wanderer and learn about the hierarchies a little better. I redesigned the Orders and added one I think? I have to re-sort those notes lmao. Also the piloting thing is like MAJORLY important to me because the frequency of vertibird crashes in game pissed me off to no end.

I actually kind of love some of the plot points in Death Shroud like the Mob Family wars? Staying 100%. Same with Ma and Boss Lombardo and some of the other families.

As is Charlie but I refuse to let him die. I got very attached to Charlie and his death was so perfect but this time he gets to stay alive dammit.

Magnolia sending Magnolia flowers with her letters? Genius

Vault-Tec Rep (David my beloved) being the saddest, wettest cat of a man imaginable when he's in Goodneighbor? Also fucking genius.

"Fish-lips" Malone being part of the same family as Skinny has me so excited for more mob family bullshit.

Ruffino's and the Black Rose is being transplanted somewhere and maybe might be near the Combat Zone. New den of sin anyone?

Obviously I'm not going to attempt to pull apart the fabric of reality in-canon but my god Death Shroud was fun <3

Some new Misc HCs

Diamond City is bigger and more populated, kind of in the same vein as the Goodneighbor HC. I haven't found a mod layout I like so I might end up redesigning it (Please kill me)

This is an old one from an ask! Hancock will help work the bar at the Third Rail occasionally. He's a notorious show off and his cocktails are mainly just straight liquor but he entertains the hell out of people when he dives over the bar to take orders and bother Whitechapel Charlie. There are major losses on nights he bartends due to the fact he forgets (sometimes purposefully) to take payment. Regulars know to put the cash in the tip jar so Whitechapel can collect it at the end of the night.

Another thing I'm keeping from an ancient ask, Danse wants kids. Badly. And the crushing blow of being sterile really fucks with him for a while. but he eventually comes to terms with it. He's also still touchy (as in he's always touching his partner) per that ask because I think that's cute.

anywhore manhattan west virginia pog

the premise of 'manhattan, west virginia', if people do not know, is that jack runs away from new york and gets a train to santa fe, only for it to break down in a town named manhattan, west virginia. the town's small and weird and people keep looking at him funny and there's this weird rabbit that won't stop following him around, so jack's on edge that he's walked into some kind of cult and desperately wants to leave. he runs into davey, the town's local environmental conservationist (psst. His Ass Is Not An Environmental Conservationist) who simply tells him to walk along the train tracks and he'll be back home. so jack does. he spends the whole day walking along the train tracks. and he loops back around to davey. he can't leave.

the idea is that manhattan is this gravity-falls-esque place where unexplainable things reside; you can find it, but not if you're TRYING to find it. you can't come to manhattan wanting to explain it because it doesn't want to explained. so it's full of weird cryptids and logging-camp/cowboy folklore and the very weird semi-human-but-also-steward-of-the-town's-consciousness, davey jacobs. and also spiders. it's very plot/action heavy in part one but the rest are just domestic fluff with eldritch weirdcore bullshit sprinkled on top.

Jack’s ripped from his drawings – his half-finished shadows – by a relentless pounding on his attic door. It’s not excessively loud, but it's insistent, a constant monotone knocking that’s more petty than anything else.

“This,” Davey shoves the jackalope in his arms towards Jack with a sour face, “belongs to you.”

Tommy Boy only watches him for a second, eyes saucer-wide, before grabbing his brother and marching them both away, practically sprinting into the rain.

“Fucking weirdo.” Henry mutters. “Always out there, just – loitering. It’s weird, right?”

Jack sends a look in Davey’s direction from the corner of his eye – he seems to be very invested in the little box of sugar packets, since it’s raised almost entirely to his mouth to hide his smile.

“Yeah.” Jack tries not to laugh. “Weird.”

“Well, nothing some good coffee won’t fix.” Henry shrugs with a good-natured smile. “Be right back, fellas, don’t go anywhere without paying me!”

Jack offers him a friendly two-fingered salute, not trusting himself to speak. The moment Henry turns his back to them to fiddle with his beloved espresso machine, they both dissolve into poorly-stifled giggles.

“Does he not know?”

“God, no. Not at all. Every time I’ve been here, he’s never noticed. I think he thinks Tommy’s trying to shake him down.”

“Oh, yeah.” Jack nods. “That’s what you do when you wanna intimidate someone, stand outside in the rain like a wet puppy.”

“With your little brother trailing after you.”

“Well, of course.”

“Of course.” Davey says professionally, lasting all of two seconds before they both start giggling again. “God, poor Tommy Boy.”

“Love’s a cruel lady.”

Davey scoffs towards his knuckles as he fidgets with his collar.

“That’s putting it strongly. I think he just associates Henry with coffee.”

Jack sighs, gazing wistfully at an imaginary horizon.

“And is that not love, in a way?”

Davey rolls his eyes and throws a sugar packet at him, right on the bridge of his nose.

“Don’t make me regret coming here.”

Ok first things first. For the Bigtop Burger au, I'm still rolling with Lark's idea where Dood essentially infested and turned a normal food truck into an eldritch, Doodler foodtruck. That FUN and CUTE. ALSO SEI IM MAKING YOUR'S AND LARK'S MAKEUP IDEAS CANON IN MY HEAD BC THEY BALL SO HARD.... Scary purple drippy makeup, Normal has school-spirit pep rally dots ( I think maybe either blue and red bc purple OR yellow and blue bc. cute?), Taylor in my head has orange flame inspired makeup, and Linc has green football stripes :]

As for the function of the food truck, I haven't thought too hard bc this au strikes me less as a super serious story one, and moreso as a S1 Bigtop Burger au where Shit Just Happens For Fun. The teens run it on the side as a cover for Dood and to get around while making some money ( maybe the money they earn is converted into daddy Warbucks bc that gimmick was good). Also Scam Likely has a food truck and it's a zomburger esc. rivalry. And I was maybe think the Mayor/The other Dooderlized people have one too but i'm not sure about that! I'd like to hear thoughts!

+ I was just thinking it would be cute if the other NPCs got roped into it for a brief amount of time. Like Erica, Margherita, Hermie OFC ( he's gonna pull grand-theft auto instead of a mascot heist), maybe the Varsity Soccer Team... something something, another Agent Schmegan car chase but it's an eldritch clown food truck filled with teenagers. I JUST MISS THIS SILLY AU AND I'M ALWAYS DOWN FOR BIGTOP BURGER,,

The Actor au is super similar in that it's not really anything besides silly, but I was just thinking of more fun scenarios! Like Henry having to be suspended in the air while doing "magic" because I love. shots of actors dangling in their dumb littles harnesses. Or clips of a show without the effects put in so it's just dorks waving their hands around and yelling. I was also thinking about how actors do side interviews/gameshows(?) and how the bonus episodes of the show are Just That.

OKOK and for the Krampus au(?) or whatever I'm doing with that because I'm just. thinking. plotting. But I wanna keep the silly art side idea with Glenn as Krampus, Darryl as Santa, Henry as a Christmas Elf, and Ron as like....a big gingerbread man. but I was thinking maybe a real au.

the main setup I have right now is the Dads being normal. vaguely-fantasy. villagers. Darryl being a carpenter/woodsman, Henry being a town healer maybe, and Ron being a traveling merchant who lives there/sets up shop. But there's a Weird Fucked Up Creature in the woods and everybody tells their kids its Krampus and they're gonna get stolen/eaten if they misbehave and he becomes this genuine myth. But turns out! probably after one of them runs into him in the woods ( probably Darryl), it's just. Glenn. and he's a goat demon monster but he's actually Pretty Chill! and he starts coming around town more and messing with people bc the Dads pretty much "invited him in" y'know. I was also thinking about having Nick as a baby goat demon...... unsure if Morgan would also be a demon or a human woman....

Thats just my way of getting my fill of monster content because I LOVE. WHEN PEOPLE HAVE TO PUT UP WITH MONSTERS... and they're already so awkward around monsters in universe so them having to navigate this demon who hangs out on their roof is PERFECT.

I also have my various unplanned/nonsense-aus cluttered around. Like the Dads as monsters, I was thinking a Swap Au ( either just Closeson or all the Dads. If all, I think it was that Darryl was the Bard, Ron was the Barbarian, Henry was the Rouge, and Glenn is the Druid. Alternatively, Darryl-Rouge, Glenn-Barbarian, Henry-Bard, and Ron-Druid).

I have a lot of thoughts and none of them string together coherently.

The past week (the good, the bad, & the miscellaneous):

—One of my uncles is in very bad health, and if he doesn’t get the proper treatment soon, will probably not make it. That’s bad enough on its own, but it has also brought up a whole slew of family drama, which…well, I won’t get into specifics because they’re not really mine to tell, but it sucks.

—The oldest kiddo is doing great with his ADHD meds. He’s better able to focus on schoolwork, he listens better, and he has actual reciprocal conversations more often now. (Like, yesterday, we got into a conversation about AI art/writing, and he had some very well-thought-out opinions! I could tell he wasn't just regurgitating things he'd heard; he'd actually put a lot of thought into it.)

—I've gotten a little sad about the fact that I probably am ADHD, and possibly also autistic, or whatever (there’s definitely some neurodivergence in there), but never got any help when I was a kid/young adult. Because AFAB kids tend to present differently and mask better, y'know? All I know is I had an awful lot of school reports that were like: "J. is really smart, but doesn't follow directions well" or "J. does well on everything, when she decides it's something she wants to do." And then when I reached the age of burnout everyone was like: "But you are so smart! You're just not trying hard enough! You're just lazy!" How much better could I have done, especially in college, had anyone noticed that I was trying, that I was fucking struggling, and it wasn't just laziness?

—Speaking of college, I'm still researching universities I might want to attend when/if I go back for another degree.

—There's also a chance we may be moving sometime in the next year.

—And I'm putting some serious thought into how I wanna proceed with Bone & Ink Press. I want to keep it going, but it has long been untenable the way it's currently going. See, the thing is, I never wanted it to become what it became, a semi-legit publishing house with perfect-bound books and royalty payments and the like. I wanted to do small print run zines and chapbooks. So I'm going to finish up/publish the New Wave anthology, and then the three other titles I have on the roster, and then after that...I think I'm going back to its roots.

—The youngest kiddo had his first online class in astronaut science this morning. He loved it so much, and wants to continue with the rest of the course. Now I just gotta scrounge up some money to pay for the rest. (The first class was free; the rest cost money.)

—My dentist appointment went okay. It was fast and relatively painless. I have two small cavities, and have to go back in a month to get them filled, but they said everything else looks good.

—After the dentist, I had a bunch of errands to run. Normally I enjoy running errands but today I just wanted to get home and relax and also, everyone in town was driving like a jackass, so it took an extra long time to get from one stop to the next.

—But I did see two cuties while out and about. There was a hot middle-aged skater dude in the grocery store. (I know he was a skater because I saw him get out of his car, and it had Santa Cruz, Independent, and other skateboard-related stickers on it.) Downtown, I spotted a beautiful 20-something goth person; they looked appropriately eldritch in a long-black coat and big black boots.

—And while in the checkout at Walgreens, I saw this mom come in with two kids. One of the kids was a goth/punk teen; they shuffled into the store with their shoulders all hunched and a scowl on their face. Amazingly enough, the song that was playing over the sound system at the time was the Siouxsie and the Banshees cover of "Dear Prudence," and the teen recognized it, and for a split second, their scowl turned to a half-smile. And then they went back to scowling. It was perfect, because that is the era of my life which constitutes the bulk of my new zine.

—Speaking of the new zine: it's done, and I am glad it’s done, and I’m pretty pleased with it, but I am also fucking exhausted. To paraphrase something I wrote in my journal in 2009, after finishing a zine: I have completely overdosed on punk rock and stories from my own life. So now, I must cleanse myself with different kinds of music and different writing; namely, fiction and poetry. (Even when my poems are based on my real life experiences, which is often, writing them doesn't deplete me in the same way that writing prose memoir does.)

—I've felt pretty on top of my shit in general lately, but I am somehow flat broke again. Despite all the freelance gigs, side hustles, budgeting, etc. I mean I had to buy more printer ink and paper to complete this zine, so there's that. Then there's the fact that no matter how much we budget, our monthly food money always runs out 5-7 days before it gets refilled. Oh, and then there's the dentist thing. My health insurance covers some dental stuff, but not all, so I gotta pay the rest out of pocket. My dentist has a payment plan, but I had to make a down payment and have another bill due when I go back for my fillings. Shit. Anyway, if anyone wants to order some of my stuff/hire me for stuff, now would be a great time.

There’s also various reworks for things like Weakness Detected, Star Attribute, Field Effects, etc to make them a niche that isn’t so niche it’s a useless gimmick outside of one specific matchup, as well as reworking traits they frankly completely bungled up like Wild/Demonic Beast or Mechanical. To say nothing of unique temporary traits I’ve come up with or just flat out making more use of traits that IMO don’t get invoked often enough like Fae or Undead.

Anyways while I love Party members in Santa Carla why have we not considered the Lost Boys in Hawkins!!!! Think of all the potential omg I’m salivating at the thought.

Like max is dead, Star, Michael and Laddie think the boys are dead so they raid Maxs place and take all the money and resources they can. It’s a lot (max is old) and then they take their bikes and leave. They don’t have a destination in mind, they’re just driving. Every now and then they stop at one of Maxs safe houses but nothing really draws them in.

Not until the reach Hawkins city limits. The first thing they notice is the sign

It’s the first time they feel homesick. They’ve never really had a home but Santa Carla is good as and the sign reminds them so much of ‘murder capital of the world’ that they decide to take a break in driving and check out the town.

The house max has here is a huge proper house. A house big enough for their would have been family, with lots of land and big windows with shudders that close tight. The boys imagine this was the place max bought for after he turned Lucy and the boys. Discovering the towns problems with missing/dead people pretty much solidifies the fact.

After scoping out the place they head into town. And that’s when all the fun happens. I can imagine so many fun possibilities and gah 😩

Maybe they meet Billy there, sizing them and their bikes up. Or maybe they’re running low on weed and one of them searches out a dealer and finds Eddie. Maybe they see Will standing outside the arcade unmoving and use their mind powers to see what’s up and it’s just so interesting because this boy is seeing monsters but not monsters like them, the eldritch horrorkind. Imagine they go into a store to grab some shit and there Joyce Byers is, casually watching them and deciding these kids need love and deciding to adopt them. Or Eleven catching one look at them and just knowing immediately they’re not normal and so the party follow them around. They’re very obvious but the boys think it’s funny.

If you find a fic where the boys end up in Hawkins just know it was me because I need, need to write this.

Idea: the eldritch Thing that Tom is a vessel for (btw the new hc lore is that he's a vessel for some eldritch Thing) is a lifelong enemy of the spirit of Christmas and that's why he hates the holiday n tries to kill santa often. Santa does not like him or the eldritch Thing that much either (hence the diet smirnoff)
