She didn't get science fiction depiction of non Earthlings at all, especially with the older movies and shows. They always shown as wanting to destroy or conquer worlds and then the human main characters saved the universe. Is this how her people will be viewed when they eventually decide to occupy this planet too?

hello. you left a neon pink post-it with pgs 194-359 due 9/12 in the book, by the way. it is now May 23rd and the library's printer is running out of ink. it jammed and tore my passport application. one of the librarians dutifully blacked out all my information (front and back!) before proceeding to use every unmarred inch as scrap paper.

i think maybe our (plural, inclusive) lives are connected. all of them. i have been thinking a lot about borrowing. about how people move through the world in waves, filling in the same spaces. i have probably stood on the same subway platform as you. we held the same book. all of us stand in the same line at the grocery, at the gas station. how many feet have stood washing dishes in my kitchen?

i hope you are doing well. the pen you used was a nice red, maybe a glitter pen? you have loopy, curling handwriting. i sometimes wonder if it is true that you can tell a personality by the shape of our letters. i'm borrowing my brother's car. he's got scrangly engineer handwriting (you know the one). it's a yellow-orange ford mustang boss. when i got out of the building, some kids were posing with it for a selfie. i felt a little bird grow in me and had to pause and pretend to be busy with my phone to give them more time for their laughing.

i have a habit of asking people what's the last good book you read? the librarian's handwriting on the back of my smeared-and-chewed passport application says the glass house in small undercase. i usually go for fantasy/sci fi, but she was glowing when she suggested it. i found your post-it on page 26, so i really hope you didn't have to read up to 359 in that particular book. i hope you're like me and just have a weird "random piece of trash" "bookmark" that somehow makes it through like, 58 books.

i wish the concept of soul mates was bigger. i wish it was about how my soul and your soul are reading the same work. how i actually put down that book at the same time you did - page 26 was like, all exposition. i wish we were soul mates with every person on the same train. how magical to exist and borrow the same space together. i like the idea that somewhere, someone is using the shirts i donated. i like the idea that every time i see a nice view and say oh gosh look at the view, you (plural, inclusive) said that too.

the kids hollered when i beeped the car. oh dude you set off the alarm, oh shit is she - dude that's her car!! one was extremely polite. "i like your car, Miss. i'm sorry we touched it." i said i wasn't busy, finish up the pictures. i folded your post-it into a paper crane while i waited. i thought about how my brother's a kind person but his handwriting looks angry. i thought about how for an entire year i drove someone to work every day - and i didn't even think to ask for gas money. my handwriting is straight capital letters.

i thought about how i can make a paper crane because i was taught by someone who was taught by someone else.

the kids asked me to rev the engine and you know i did. the way they reacted? you would have thought i brought the sun from the sky and poured it into a waterglass. i went home smiling about it. i later gave your post it-turned-bird to a tiny child on the bus. she put it in her mouth immediately.

how easy, standing in your shadow, casting my own. how our hands pass over each other in the same minor folds. i wonder how many of the same books you and i have read. i wonder how many people have the same favorite six songs or have been in the same restaurant or have attended the same movie premier. the other day i mentioned the Book Mill from a small town in western massachusetts - a lot of people knew of it. i wonder if i've ever passed you - and didn't even notice it.

i hope whatever i leave behind makes you happy. i hope my hands only leave gentle prints. i hope you and i get the same feeling when the sun comes out. soulmates across all of it.

I've been preparing for this for two solid months now and I'm not gonna lie I feel a little unhinged atm. But. It's done.

The BackerKit campaign for our second novel, The Fractured Balance, is now live!

A dark, gory, and philosophical tale following a former slave and genetic experiment as he ascends to the embodiment of Justice and gives the stuck gears of his stagnated civilization a big shove.

The campaign runs until September 26th, and backing will give you a chance to claim some special goodies like our debut novel Everdark, a bookmark, a doodle from me inside the book (everything here is my art, and no AI is ever used in either my art or my writing), a dedication, or even a cameo in the story!!

Star Wars, original and prequel. Padme and Leia!! Seeing these two focused on in one Star Wars vid is an adventurous kickass ride. I'll be everything that I want to be. Space Girl by charmax. Multi-source scifi. One of the most beautiful epic space vids out there! I know I’ve recced this before and I’ll rec it again and again and again. My momma told me I should never watch Sci-fi but I did, I did, I did.

This vid was actually inspired by the Backstreet Boys original music video. I still have the vivid memory of watching or rewatching the original music video in @ars-amatoria ’s kitchen. And then at some point realizing it is perfect for the Borg. Am I original, am I the only one? Fembots by Grammarwoman. Multi-source. Sexy sharp editing and fun use of all the sources. The intersection of women and technology: a spectrum of clones, AIs, gynoids, cyborgs, and other artificial creations. On by @rhoboat77. Star Trek: Picard. A Soji fanvid. Rho has the sharpest editing skills this side of the Internet and this Soji vid is so fucking badass and worth 100 rewatches. Can’t hold me down cuz you know I’m a fighter. Que Sera Sera by @ohvienna. Star Trek Voyager and Picard. Seven of Nine.Nobody vids their Seven of Nine love like @ohvienna. You gotta watch this if you love Seven. Whatever will be, will be…"

Xenophilia! Zero-gravity sex! Mpreg!!! Because everyone knows this song is about space sex. Game Night in Space by garrideb. Multi-source. This vid!!!!! IS! SO! MUCH! FUN!! Game on! How are you going to spend those long nights on your starship? Play games, of course! tbh i know nothing about Icebreaker, so i have no clue what the gist is…from a quick google i get the overall theme? A spicy hockey romance book? I’m running with that 🤣

“Hey babe.”

Matt called to you as he stepped into your shared apartment, setting his bag down by the door as he made his way over to you. A look of surprise on his face to find you reading, not something you normally were a fan of in your spare time.

“Trying to join me and Kreid’s book club or something?”

You chuckled as you slipped your bookmark between the pages before closing it, resting it on your chest as you responded with a sarcastic laugh.

“Very funny. It’s just a book my friend recommended to me, figured I’d read it and see what the hype was all about I guess.”

Matt reached for the book, but you quickly pulled it away, your cheeks flushed red with embarrassment as he was confused by your reaction.

“Babe, come on let me just take a look. I won’t lose your place or anything, just wanna see what it’s about.”

Shaking your head you attempted to move from your spot on the couch, Matt’s arms immediately grabbing at your waist to pull you into his chest. Your strength no match for his, mentally cursing his off-season workout routine for that, as he snatched the book from your hand.

“Icebreaker…is this one of the booktok books or something?”

You got up and ran for your bedroom, not wanting to hear any jokes or comments from him as you buried yourself in the blankets.

Soon enough he was at your side, trying to get you to look at him, a soft chuckle leaving his lip as he reassured you it was nothing to be embarrassed about.

“Hey, look at me. I don’t care if you like reading books like that. Definitely won’t be invited to book club because we are more into the sci-fi kind of stuff. But your interests I’m sure are shared by others out there!”

Slowly pulling down the blankets you pouted your lips at him, fearful that you could never pick up that book again now that he knew about it.

He scooted you over on the bed, wrapping his arms around you as he peppered your face with kisses. Trying his best to make you feel less embarrassed, which was easy to do. You couldn’t stay mad at him long, eventually sitting up on the bed to look at him with a smile.

“Maybe I was reading that book for research.”

“Research?”

He furrowed his brow at you as your fingers traced circles on his forearms.

“Yeah, see if how they describe hooking up with a hockey is accurate or not.”

His eyes went wide as stared at you, your laugh not able to be withheld as you saw the look on his face as the wheels began to turn in his brain.

“Hooking up? What!”

“Did you not read the back cover babe? It’s a hockey romance book. It’s spicy.”

He bit his lip as his hands ran up and down your thighs, his mindset on the book immediately changing as he was sure it was cutesy book about enemies to lovers or whatever it was the girls were into nowadays.

“Well, in that case maybe we read it together? And act out our favorite scenes?”
