yeah these AUs can be easily used to make some wholesome or angst. Depends really!

[The king's return]

- wukong never had a perfect childhood, he had to be king and has to be king forever since he isn't gonna die any time soon, so he never got to fully get his childhood, play, grow up y'know that stuff. He was busy being well, a king.

and i can only imagine wukong getting excited like a kid when something does go his way or he simply has a good day. healing his child self slowly without recognizing it, but it's mainly thanks to his generals and family that he's able to heal so soon.

- i wouldn't say that wukong is now the antisocial man we know from the original lmk, but he's also not the most extroverted guy ever, but he doesn't have social anxiety (he only hates people.) So he's still the cuddly guy he once was.

Expect a lot of hugs.

- even if wukong does have a ego and he thinks of himself as better than everyone else (during jttw is even worse) he would never be an asshole and show his ego to his friends or subjects in general.

so that's something that's pretty hard to get from him, since he always puts others before him and that's not really a ego thing. But there are times where he shows to have some "self-esteem".

This self esteem makes him hurt himself to show off though.

- wukong is still the shortest, but somehow this short man manages to scare off every demon nearby.

- wukong is..not well. He's insane and he's also a bit sadistic, many scenarios can end up with him enjoying someone else suffering, even giggling.

- honestly? I do see wukong putting up some glamorous on both voice and looks, he surely remembers how he looked like and sounded like, so he didn't have a problem on putting up glamours.

The problem is that with this glamours no one knows if he gets hurt, why is he putting up glamours, and how he looks like. because they are aware he isn't like this anymore.

- wukong can pull many faces and masks, most times it's a smile but it kinda turned into a smirk over the years

- wukong is not taller than Mami, maybe the same height, but Mami never stands up straight so whenever he has to hug her he either sits down too or picks her up.

he is taller than horse though. He tackles and then hugs them.

The others are pretty much normal hugs. sometimes he just crawls on langur to hug him for some reason.

- i imagine the two immortals hanging out a lot way more in wukong house, just like the generals. But sometimes wukong forgets about it and gets scared that these guys are in his house.

- wukong is oddly friendly with everyone, he puts up a lot of masks when he's with his subjects, and he surely acts like he's fine. So therapy is hard because why does he keep acting, and also another question is "why is every demon scared of wukong?" Because the only time he's ever been violent is with heaven. (Not true but nobody has to know. Nobody has to know that wukong ate someone before too.)

[reunion AU]

- i do imagine wukong having a difficulty controlling his body in general (moving, holding things, controlling his force) so he has to call the monkeys to help him, but the stubborn bitch dosen't so he always ends up falling or letting something fall. Ma dosen't accept that.

- Ma gets to see MK actually! If he does keep training in the mountain he gets to meet Ma, and they'll match energy to be honest in my opinion.

- Macaque was probably forced to be in wukong house by both wukong and MK so he could also have a reunion with Ma.

- Ma is now the one who gives therapy. And it's simply wukong and macaque holding hands until they apologize.

- there's a possibility that macaque fur can be white again (since hair do grow back with the same color) it's just macaque that didn't shower for decades. So i can imagine Ma fixing his fur again.

- wukong has a hard time talking to people in general, who's gonna explain to Ma her grave with flowers in it?

- wukong often hugs macaque, compliments him and holds hands with tails only to annoy him. And it works because macaque dosen't know if it's a sign that wukong is gonna kill him or not.

- wukong does the same to Ma, but it's genuine.

- 💚

(The king's return AU)

That might explain why he acts so childish nowadays. He wasn't able to be that when he was younger

If anything, he trusts strangers less now, and he's even more protective of the people he knows

I guess he has destructive self-esteem? Or would it be more like the hero syndrome, where you want to do everything and you want to demonstrate to everyone that you can do that thing, even if it's dangerous

His short stature actually helps him scare off demons, because no one expects him to be scary

I think he was always like that honestly, the JTTW just erased that part. But obviously, that doesn't happen here

Yeah, Ma especially is extremely upset the first time she sees him with his glamours up. But she can't convince him to stop using them

I think he's a very expressive character, and not just with his face, but with his body too

He's only 5 cm taller than Horse, which the immortal still argues that it doesn't make him taller

He just finds langur making tea in his kitchen or Horse lounging in the living room and he gets a mini heart attack because he forgot they were there XD

Wukong will always be a saint in his subject's eyes because, objectively, he is one with them. So they have no reason to think he's anything but kind and that Heaven wronged him

(Reunion AU)

Ma is back from the dead and she's ready to smack Wukong on the head before helping him out herself

The marshal is going to be a mix of "You are my grandchild now, I will give you all the candies" to "Why did you do something like that, that's dangerous!?". It's basically Wukong 2.0 for her

That's going to be the first, and probably last, time MK sees Macaque fucking crying

Neither of them have the heart to refuse her

Ma just grabs the shadow demon and forces him into an intense grooming session. They don't move for the next three hours and even the baby monkeys join them

Macaque is probably going to explain the grave if Wukong isn't able to. But to be honest, between Ma and MK both asking he might just explode and yell it out without meaning to

The only reason why Wukong does that, it's because he knows it's going to annoy him. And Ma will make sure he doesn't attack him in retaliation

Wukong is probably going cling to Ma for the next month or so, let's be honest

Absolutely.

I have a hc that when Ao Lie was really small, he'd run off to the Celestial stables/orchards during political summits. Wukong - either as supreme stableboy or Orchard Maiden/Monkey - would be there and be like;

Wukong: "Well I guess I'm tending to a lost foal for the day." *gives knowing wink at the horse-obsessed baby dragon*

Little Ao Lie: ⸜(✧ᗜ✧)⸝

Of course for all his acting as a baby horse - Ao Lie still had baby dragon instincts... which included nomming on things that looked fun to chew on. :3

Wukong let out a yelp loud enough for the whole Western Sea Dragon family to know what their youngest pup had done. Papa Ao Run was super apologetic, while big brother Moang quietly handed Ao Lie an extremely thick-looking teething ring (looked like something you'd give a big dog). Wukong just laughed the incident off, his tail has been bitten many times by curious teething infants back home.

Erlang was also at this incident (he'd been attending the same summit and jumped when he heard his little bro-figure yell), and was pleasantly surprised that there was such a thing as dragon-strength chew toys. He ended up asking a dragon client for one later as payment for defending their territory. Xiaotian Quan still has the (now very chewed-up) toy hidden in her dog bed to this day.

Also fun fact! You can give stable horses thicker dog toys as enrichment items! Wukong is delighted by this fact.

Shadowpeach:

You were just playing in the garden with Nezha when he had to leave four a short minute but that was when the demon that was hiding in the bushes decided to strike as he noticed how important you seemed to be and with how you seem to hold great power that you might of not even know about yet.

It wasn’t until you got to the human realm did you finally was able to get out of the hold of the demons hands and did the only thing you could do at the moment which was run from the demonic kidnapper. You had run as far as your little legs could which was pretty far as you’re half of celestial and half demonic.

You had soon met the successor of monkey king; mk, you heard of him before and how he reminds your father of a monkey demon that terrorized the heavens before you were even born, you honestly liked those stories when Nezha head told you about in case you came across the monkey or his family as a warning but you didn’t’t take it as a warning but more like a story that was for your bedtime so you happily went to mk once you realized who he was.

He didn’t know where you came from so he just thinks your a lost kid or maybe a orphan; which he hope wasn’t the case cause who would abandon a sweet kid like you? And decided to take you to his dads who’re on flower fruit mountain with his adopted sister bai he as they are training her for self defense and to control the remaining power that lbd had that is still inside her for when the demoness had possesed her as her host.

Sun was the second person to have meet you, he basically hugs you as you’re so adorable, though you do have a familiar aura about you and the fact that his eyes are showing him a bright glow to you that he can’t quite place at the moment but he know that it’ll come to him sooner or later but back to the main focus which is how adorable you have gotten by the second especially with those little nubs of your horns!! So adorable

(Just like you guys!! You’re all adorable and don’t let anybody tell you otherwise, unless you want to use a different term than adorable then you’re definitely a lot of wonderful things you want to be so don’t let anyone tell otherwise either 😁)

Sun quickly showed you to macaque and bai he as soon as mk explained what happened to you when you told mk what happened though you conveniently accidentally left out the fact that you’re the jade emperor’s daughter when you explained so now they think you’re a lost celestial child and decided to adopt you without the help of sun’s unnamed lawyer cause that would just have you taken away from them and you need to be raised by people like them anyway since your real parents can’t even save you from a demon kidnapping their child.

Which brings us to now. The demon who tried to kidnap you again and with the fact that your power you have yet to discover is driven the demon insane enough to not notice that he traveled to flower fruit mountain, a place he shouldn’t be as the sun family had just made you their own now which means the demon is soon to be dead as there is a punishment for trying to harm one of the sun family’s (the monkey are apart of the sun family like it’s said in jttw I believe.) sadly the now decease demon isn’t the only threat to separate you from them as your biological father soon was given word that you now reside in flower fruit mountain with the very monkey that made the heavens a disaster before you were born and with how you’re so young still the jade emperor fears that the blasted demon monkey would try and twist your mind into hating your real father.

Dbk family:

You had somehow entered the human realm when you were playing hide and seek with Nezha. Though you didn’t know that you entering would alert so many demons that went after you soon after you landed on safe grounds, though ones demon family sensed your powerful aura and went after it as it could help them finally defeat monkey king and his disciple mk; whose secretly redson’s boyfriend but he would never tell them at the moment with how things are now.

Though they are most definitely shocked to see but a child in a middle of multiple demons who still go by the olden ways of things, they almost had just let it happened if pif had a brief thought of Redson if he was in that situation and seeing him in the child’s place, so as fast as she could she took care of the demons who isn’t as much as important as the child in pif arms is.

This confused Redson more than Dbk but Dbk was still confused on his wife’s actions as this had never happened before until now. Though his confusion diminished as he saw the look his wife gave to the child then the next look she gave to him, it was a look that was similar to when they discovered Redson samadhi fire and something a mother would give for when they want to protect their child from harm that may come plus the innocent look you had given him when you noticed the direction the woman that is holding you gently is looking at.

They soon went back to their castle that is their home and soon to be your home though Redson is still confused but don’t know wether or not if he should ask or not but kept quiet anyway as you seem to need to be taken care of first at the moment.

Redson is the last to see you once you’re taking care of in case you heads wounds from those demolishing that surprised attacked you, he soon understand that maybe having you here is a good idea plus he also understands the way his mother and father acted towards you as now he soon feels that protective over you.\

The only person outside of his family that’s knows about you is mk but that soon wasn’t the case as he had accidentally let it out when he was asked about his day by tang and pigsy with mei and sandy being there as well, all o fthem became worried about you and made sure to ask about wether you’re ok and such for when mk was spending time with Redson.

Funny enough Redson was able to confidently show to his parents how the was dating mk which brought the over protectiveness in them but you soon calmed them down which Redson was grateful. Though what the bull family didn’t know is that now a l;it of people is wanting to have you safely in their arm,s once they got word about you, the jade emperor ins’t too happy how a demon family has his daughter that he wants to protect with his life.

Waterspider/silktea:

You met mo when you had accidentally got transported to the human realm by accident when you were exploring the celestial realm out of boredom as everyone you knew was sadly busy, though when you had met mo you soon had no fear or boredom as he took your mind off it with you two playing in the park.

Mo at first just thought you’d were a lost kid but soon noticed how you have some type of important outfit on and with the fact that you have a almost celestial and demonic aura about you which is why he soon took you to sandy ad huntsman.

Sandy and huntsman was just finishing up setting up their first date of the relationship that blossomed soon after the two met but was interrupted by mo coming in with you in tow, you were confused on where you were as you were solely focused on the mysterious blue cat and was shocked to see someone that was big and funny enough resemble the cat as well plus with a demon which you could only guess from your knowledge is a spider demon, you also guessed that the one that resemble the cat was a sort of fish demon but you decided on not saying anything as to not be rude and assume things.

The two decided to put their date on hold for now as you seem to need to have comfort with how your’e lost from your home now. They also thought you were of a rich family but huntsman was the first to noticed your almost Yang yang like aura soon after and quietly told sandy about it.

Though sandy did think that you might have something to do with celestial beings so he wasn’t as shocked as huntsman had thought he would be but sandy quickly explain why he wasn’t as shocked as he thought sandy was which made sense as he remembers how sandy was right about his friends being reincarnations of the disciples from the old journey to the west.

Sandy had shown you to pigsy, tang, mk, and mei while huntsman had shown you to syntax, strong spider and a still recovering spider queen who somehow survived lbd betrayal that almost killed the queen.

What the two didn’t know is that your very much important than they thought you were and that you’re the daughter of the jade emperor but of course the two is ready for anything that would try to take you away as they had soon thought of you as part of their family plus they have friends who feel the same so now it’s war between the two groups.

Spicynoodles:

You snuck out of the celestial realm as were tired of seeing the same thing over and over again and want to do something new like what some humans do from what you heard of.

You met mk when you had gotten hungry though it was only brief as he need to do his deliveries for pigsy, though you did get to met his some of his adopted parents. You had given pigsy your order with a pouch of many celestial currency like you’ve done before in the celestial realm when you wanted something from there.

Mk soon properly met your as you had stayed in the restaurant still and have not left as you didn’t know the time had past so much and cause you were having a nice chat with tang who was interested in your stories that you had from when you were in the celestial realm of course tang didn’t believe you and thought these were only you imagination of what it could be like if you were to be there but that is far from it.

Pigsy was intrigued by you but also worried as no kid should be left alone, as he should know as he has mk and tang to look after and their basically children with how the two get in trouble plus putting mei in the mix as well so more than a disaster.

Mk had started hanging out with you plus mentioning about you to both his monkey dads and his boyfriend; Redson, all of them curios about their little one that had mk distracted a lot.

Redson met you first as he couldn’t help his growing curiosity plus he started getting jealous how almost all the time mk was with is about if you’re ok so he went to both meet you and see if you’re as important as mk makes you out to be, which is very important as he can feel both celestial and demonic power coming from you but that makes him protective over you as there is many beings who would want that power as well since he had something similar when he was born so he now protects you with mk and soon adopted you as their child.

Sun, macaque had met you afterwards, some were offended to be close to last for meeting you (cough, cough *sun* cough, cough) but it’s mostly jokingly tease as they soon was distracted by you for the rest of the day that they had finally met you on; mei and sandy met you sooon after mk properly met you so they definitely know you beforehand. With how overprotective everyone you have met you the jade emperor most definitely won’t be getting his daughter back anytime soon.

SHADOWPEACH fic prompt/AU idea where SWK and Macaque both get de-aged.

Some demon hits them with an attack or artefact and well MK changes in with 2 tiny Monkies in his arms simultaneously freaking the fuck out but also AHHHH THEY ARE SO CUTE!!

Things are more complicated because the first time two different people try holding them separately or the first time they try and separate them baby Sun starts screaming and eyes lasers and ‘NO! HE’S MY FRIEND LEAVE HIM ALONE GIVE HIM BACK NOW’ Baby Sun just being super clingy and announcing that He’s the strongest and he’s gonna be the King and Macaque’s going to be his husband. Baby Macaque is a quite shy little ball of fluff who keeps looking at baby Sun like he is the greatest thing ever.

Trying to separate them leads to baby Macaque crying his eyes out and Sun screaming punching and breaking peoples shins.

Mei has not stopped recording she already has hours and a full speech from baby Sun on what his Macaque’s wedding is going to be like. MK has somehow become Monkie dad to both monkies and when macaque is not clinging to sun he is clinging to his pant leg and MK heart is melting also baby monkie King has deemed him the next coolest person after him and Macaque and MK has been crying a lot.

Red Son is trying to help figure out how to change them back and ends up having to call his parents.

RS:Mother, father we were hoping we could request your assistance with something

PIF:What has the little thief and the dragon horse girl done now?

DBK: And why should we assist those peasants of yours?

RS:...well the monkey king and Macaque have been... changed into children

DBK/PIF:...

Less than 5 minutes later DBK bursts in with a camera demanding to know where they are, he has so much blackmail now.

(PIF arrives right after DBK forgot she could teleport them he was so excited)

*Yuanhou is the Long Armed Gibbon and Mahou is the Red Bottomed Horse Monkey, Macaque is okay with Yellow Tusk, it's not great, but not terrible.*

I thought it would be funny to have Macaque know the other celestial primates and Wukong be confused af when these two show up at his house.

So they are besties and currently placing bets on how long it takes Wukong to realize that they are besties. Once he does they plan to go on double dates and trade stories of all the shit they've been up to.

Yuanhou and Mahou have been watching the development of Shadowpeach for the longest time. They have seen so much of it.

I hc that Yuanhou uses his arms the same way Plastic Man does cause, it's funny. I don't have a better reason, I just think it'd be funny. He will just drop stuff off on FFM from his home by just stretching his arm all the way over there.

I designed my own versions of the long armed gibbon and red buttoned baboon!

Both are girls (they are dating)

And they hold a grudge against wukong for abandoning them bc of his social suicide decisions

I made the baboon a mandrill bc yeah but also I made both of them girls bc I feel as though we need more lmk female characters as like well there’s only 7 of them (in the show) and I think it’d balance out the 4 spiritual primates

was Macky jealous of Ao Lie? maybe so 👀 swk being close with Ao Lie is a popular hc and it has merit in the jttw book (not to mention that swk was a stableman in Heaven and Ao Lie transforms into a horse, being Tripitaka’s mighty steed sooooooooooooooooooo)

it is very likely that Macky witnessed this closeness and grew jealous of it (tbh my personal opinion is that his confrontation in lmk’s version is because of his jealousy, personal betrayal, and feelings of abandonment) which tipped the dominoes over for Macky’s death (rip)

Karaoke Dream - Shadowpeach fic

Macaque sighed. This was going to be a long night.

The shadow monkey couldn't remember how, but he had somehow been dragged out of his apartment to go out with the gang. Macaque regretted ever taking them to his place with every random or uninvited visit, the most annoying, and totally didn't make his day secretly better, were Wukong's; MK at least texted him some kind of warning.

"C'mon slow poke! I know you're centuries old but that doesn't mean you have to go at a grandma's pace" Mei teased, managing to be the fastest of the bunch even as she walked backwards.

Macaque rolled his eyes, walking even slower out of spite. With the many super powers and vehicles at the group's disposal, they had chosen to walk instead. The darker monkey had kept to the back of the group to keep some distance and to avoid their insistent chatter.

Though he admits he mayhaps be slowing down the rest of them by his pace, the grandma comment was a little unneeded.

"That was uncalled for y'know" he stated, grumpily glaring at the girl infront of him.

Mei chuckled, smirking in a way that almost seemed like a challenge, "why? Are you cranky because you need to take a nap grandma?"

"Why you little -" he half grumbled under his breath, his tail swishing across the ground in an agitated manner, before picking up his pace to catch up with her.

The dragon horse girl continued to tease the shadow weaver, throwing a playful insult at the other every so often. The rest of the group stayed out of the twos reaching, watching in amusement as they bickered. They knew it was all in good fun so they weren't worried.

Eventually the two had grown bored of the back and forth, deciding to call a truce.

Macaque had taken to walking next to Mei once their chasing had subsided, too lazy to slow his walk to reach the back again. "I'm appalled by how horrendous your manners are dragon girl, you should learn to respect your elders" he said, putting on a false expression of seriousness and offense but a playful smile threatening to break through realized his true intent.

Mei fake gasped, placing a hand on her chest to further convey the message, "how rude! You have truly forsaken me grammy."

The darker monkey rolled his eyes again, this time in a more joking way. "Here I thought 'grandma' was the worst you could've said, I've been corrected" he said, dripping with sarcasm.

Mei snickered, smirking once more. "Would gran-gran suffice better for you then?" She asked, sounding proud of herself. Macaque winced, his face looking one of disgust "no, just no."

Monkey King, which had spent most of the walk lounging on his floating cloud, had sauntered up to the two with his own smirk on aforementioned cloud. "You're so harsh GG it's almost cruel" the stone monk stated to the other, where upon the other glared at him. Macaque's good eye slightly glowing purple for a split second.

"You are despicable Wukong" the shadow weaver deadpanned but it only caused the others more amusement, Wukong's cheeks radiating a soft golden glow from them as giggled to himself.

MK interrupted any further teasing by making his way to the front, "we're here!" He announced loudly as he pointed towards the sign above them which they peered up at. "Singing Dream" written in big neon pink and blue lights on the sign, making the two monkeys sort of falter.

It has been a long time since Macaque had sung infront of people, he had sparingly sung in his own time but that was the extent of it. He was a performer, sure, but not a singer.

Not to mention he hadn't yet grown accustomed to, well, being on good terms with the heroes. How'd could he know that they wouldn't use this against him somehow? He didn't.

Then there was Sun Wukong. Besides the possibility that he might insult him on his singing, which was wasn't a big worry to him, the darker monkey had noticed the other flinch when realizing it was a karaoke place. Furthermore, he could hear the sage's heart beat beating irrationally against his chest, his tail flipping anxiously against the cloud. Something wasn't right.

Macaque glanced at the other in concern. Before he could will himself to say anything, Wukong spoke up. "What's the hold up guys? Let's go on inside!" He said while nervously chuckling to himself, wincing at how forced his own voice sounded.

Wukong started walking forward into the karaoke place, the other group members following suit. The shadow monkey had raised his hand slightly to reach out for the other monkey but let it drop to his side as went in.

Though he noticed a brief exchanging of glances between Monkey King and MK, which seemed to calm the mentor's nerves. He sighed softly in relief to himself.

The interior inside the building looked nice, being furnished rather well. They were shown to their private karaoke room which was kitted out with a small stage that had different coloured lights and seating area. This seemed to calm the sage more, his heart rate lowering to it's normal pace.

Soon enough the singing began, whoever decided or were volun-told to sing went up on stage while the rest remained seated as they listened to the person–or people–before cheering. The loudest cheering always going to Sun Wukong.

First had been MK and Mei. They had chosen to sing "Wannabe" by the Spice girls, with added dancing. Clearing showing off to the rest of them.

Next was Red Son, having been volun-told by the two young adults, begrudgingly going up on stage. The two had pick a song when the demon wasn't looking and had to sing "I Wanna Dance with Somebody" by Whitney Houston. Though a little squeaky at points, Red had done an alright job; it wasn't easy to go up against Whitney.

Soon after came Tang and Pigsy, the two had scrolled through the song until they came to one that the scholar seemed particularly happy about. It turned out to be "A Whole New World" from Aladdin.

Pigsy had briefly debated with Tang to do something less "cutesy" as he chose to put it, though lost massively.

Tang sang fairly well, sing Jasmine parts while the chef did decently while singing Aladdin's parts. Pigsy remained red for the duration of the song, standing awkwardly next to the scholar as he sang along happily.

The song finished, Tang bowing proudly as the others cheered, and the pair began to make their way off the stage and back to their seats so the next performance could commence. Before they could however, Sandy brought them back onto the platform. Having been captivated by the two's performance, he had wanted to join the fun.

They looked to the others to make sure it was okay to go again after just going, Mei deciding to join them as well, they got the green light and over to the machine to pick a song. The four picked "Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen since it had enough parts for everyone and was also just a classic.

Macaque had been content with staying on the large sofa, seating himself in a corner far from the others. Pigsy, Tang, Mei and Sandy sat around the other corner while Red Son, MK and Monkey sat in-between. Sitting closest him being Wukong.

He had been minding his business, for once, fiddling slightly with the ends of his scarf when the two young adults appeared in front of him.

The shadow monkey glanced up at them confused, raising an eyebrow at their particular-ness, the two's sardonic smiles making him a little uneasy. "Wha-" he started to say but was cut off.

"It's your turn Macaque" the friends said in unison, having an unusual intimidating aura around them.

The darker monkey promptly shrank a bit under their glaze, feeling as though he'd been sent to the principal's office. "I think I'm good actually, yeah, I'm not all that big on singin' ya see" he stated, hoping it'd make them back down. It didn't, not even in the slightest.

"Don't fight it Mr. Captain of the theater kids, just climb on stage" Mei said, holding out a mic to him.

Red Son scoffed as he glanced over at the shadow weaver, "the two didn't accept me saying no and, rather forcibly I might add, pushed me onto the platform. I'd just play along unless you want the same fate Six-Earred Macaque" the demon deadpanned.

Macaque sighed, grabbing the mic out of the girl's hand, accepting his fate. "Fine" he said to the two friends' joy, standing up to step onto the stage.

He went to the machine to pick a song but found one had already been picked. "Why is one already picked?" He asked the two, knowing they were behind it. They laughed. "We'd thought you might go for an easy song to get it over with, so we picked one for you that makes you actually try" the dragon stated matter-of-factly.

The darker monkey groaned but pressed play on the screen, the robotic voice reading out the title before the actual music started to play.

"Now playing: 'Use Somebody' by King of Leon"

Macaque's eyes held a determined glint in them as he readied himself. If they wanted him to sing then he will, and out show all of them.

Drums and guitar filled the room, back up vocals accompanying them. He took one final breath to steady himself while he wait for his queue to begin singing.

"I've been roaming around, always looking down and all I see" his voice was soft, angelic almost. The group of hero sat in shock before becoming enamored by the shadow monkey's performance. They hadn't suspected him to actually be able to sing, well, except for Sun Wukong.

The two monkeys were once close friends, as the others knew, they had seen the rise and the fall of one another.

When they were little, before the idea of greatness or adventures outside of Flower Fruit Mountain filled their minds, Macaque used to sing to Wukong.

Most of the songs were ones they'd heard from the travelers that would make there way up the mountain, others were ones the shadow weaver had made up. His voice was calming and soothing to the ears, it could even be called pretty.

Even though Macaque had only sung a few notes, Monkey King knew it hasn't changed at all over the centuries.

"Painted faces fill the places I can't reach.." he made sure to put emphasis on certain words as he kept his eyes to the front. He had been semi-familiar with the song, guessing he had heard it on the radio a few years ago.

"You know that I could use some-body" the sound of the drums pounded against Macaque's chest and he feeling of the rush beginning to hit him. Kind he always feels when he performs, when he's going toe to toe with Sun Wukong.

Sun Wukong. He could feel the other monkey's golden eyes on him, as though he was the only thing worth looking at. As Macaque prepared for the next line of the song he had a realization, he wanted Wukong to only have his attention on him.

It hurt to be near the stone monkey, but gods did he crave it. He felt so whole with the gold eyes on him, free, safe.

He felt his own eyes being drawn to him, his and Wukong's being put in a trance. And Macaque decided that he was going to do due whatever it took to keep the sage's eyes on him, dive deeper into those eyes, indulge himself in the positive attention the other monkey was giving him so freely in this moment. Turn this performance into an exception for them both, then go back to the script once the last note was played.

"You know that I could use some-body" he kept his eyes on Wukong, noticing how the other's face dusted with a golden blush.

"Someone like you!" He felt his voice become more emotional as the words left his lips. He remembered the times he had needed Wukong the most. When demons had invaded the mountain and burned everything to the ground, when the Great Sage had left him after their first ever fight, after he had been revived...

He resented Monkey King for leaving him, for betraying him, for killing him but he couldn't yearn for the bond and friendship they had. For the love he had and still held for him in spite of everything.

"And all you know and how you speak.." the others had been forgotten, the two monkeys existing in a space that was just for them, "countless lovers.. undercover of the street!"

"You know that I could use somebody! You know that I could use somebody!" The drums started picking up.

"Someone like you!" Macaque belted, his face admitting a soft purple glow as though he was covered in stars.

Music break. The shadow monkey taking a chance to catch is breath.

"Off in the night while you live it up, I'm off to sleep" his voice had become softer, gentler.

Sun Wukong took notice of how the stage lights illuminated the darker monkey, making him look like an ethereal god from the celestial realm. His eyes seeming to shine.

He felt his successor nudge his arm, probably seeing how mushing the king was looking at the moment, but he chose to ignore it. He could deal with the teasing later.

"Waging wars to shake the po-et and the beat" the shadow monkey knew mayhaps was getting too into it but gods it was cathartic! To know, for a moment, that he was being genuine and real. Not only to himself, with Wukong as well.

"I hope it's gonna make you no-tice!" it felt like everything in him was reaching out to Sun, to notice him, as cringey as it seemed, screaming for the sage to see him. Reach out to Macaque like it seemed that the he was always doing for the other.

"I hope it's gonna make you no-tice!"

"Someone like me!" Wukong's gaze felt the sun, warm, painful, yet so inviting. It almost seemed he was going to be burned but it was addicting nonetheless, to be what he was seeing, to be all he was caring about. To have be speechless.

"Someone like me!" Macaque repeated, and Monkey King felt dazed. By the lights, the song, how dazzling his old friend looked up on the stage. The shadow monkey's voice lulling him into a place between soberity and drunkenness, so out of it yet he couldn't be more awake.

He felt him wanting to pull Macaque closer, draw the demon nearer to him, as though he was merely a mirage and would slip through his fingertips like sand.

"Someone like me, some-body!" The shadow weaver repeated again.

Another music break, back up vocal chiming in singing "go and let it out."

If Sun Wukong was the sun, Macaque was the moon. Linked. Dependent on one another, two halves of a whole.

"Someone like you, somebody" the song was soon to end, the two monkeys welcoming yet truly dreading the final lines. Because the exception would be drawing a close. The Sun and Moon rotating out of orbit from one another, the eclipse gone.

Two separate beings, two separate paths. Back to routine.

"Someone like you, somebody" he repeated.

"Someone like you, somebody!"

"I've been roaming around," the darker monkey's voice became softer again, yet his eyes didn't leave Sun Wukong's, "always looking down and all I see.."

The exception to the rule was over.

The others say in shocked mixed with amazement as the last notes ring out. Then slowly, Monkey King stood up clapping his hands firmly together before the rest followed suit. His golden eyes still holding onto the performers, unwavering, momentarily flashing pink.

The shadow monkey stood outside the karaoke place, slumped against the wall behind him.

The group were planning to head out soon, as it was getting late. Macaque had taken the opportunity of the others being distracted by doing one finally song to slip outside for some fresh air.

He sighed for probably the fiftieth time that night. Finally coming down from the rush of him performing.

It all felt like a dream honestly, and from what the monkey expect, that was how it was going to stay. A dream. Wukong would pretend nothing happened in there between them, because nothing is what happened. Or that's what the demon was trying to tell himself, it would be easier to play along with the lie if he believed in it.

Though he couldn't help how his heart pounding at remembering. The heat, the gold eyes, the rush. It felt accelerating.

But it was an exception, nothing more. Nothing at all.

It definitely isn't messing him up at all, not in the slightest, he's completely normal. He's normal because there's nothing that would be messing him up right now.

He heard soft footsteps being placed against the concrete as them came closer towards him, his ears twitching at the sound, breaking the monkey away from his little dilemma.

"There you are! I suspected you'd sneak off when given the chance" a familiar voice called.

It was, of course, Sun Wukong. The cause of his dilemma in the first place.

Macaque rolled his eyes, attempting to act nonchalant, being riddled with both panick and confusion. "What? How else am I going to scheme otherwise?" He asked jokingly. "Plus it's a nice night tonight, be a shame to waste it" he added, shrugging.

"True" Wukong agreed.

The two proceeded to stand there in silence, staring up at the stars above.

Which lasted until the darker of the two decided it was getting a tad uncomfortable. "So, did you need to tell me something or... did you just want to awkwardly stare at the night sky together?" His voice was gentle as asked the question, him considering teleporting home before the other had a chance to answer.

The stone monkey chuckled nervously to himself, his face glowing ever so slightly. "Yeah I uh- wanted to tell you that.." Wukong sounded hesitate, his tail swinging around his feet anxiously. He breathed, trying to relax, "I really liked your performance" Monkey King eventually said.

Macaque scoffed softly, of course that was it, how could it be anything else. "That's it? Gods Wukong, you could've said that to me inside!" He stated, sounding unnecessarily agitated, had he wanted him to say something else?

"Was that you wanted to say or is there something-" the demon monkey began to say but got interrupted, Wukong lacing their tails together as he refused to meet his eyes; blushing gold all over.

Macaque felt his heart crawl into his throat as he struggled to say something, blushing just as much as the other. "So... There is something else?" He finally managed to ask, the sage simply nodding.

Before more could be said, the rest of the group had chosen then to leave out the doors which succeeded in startling both monkeys.

"C'mon lovebirds! I called us a taxi, let's go!" Mei announced as she charged ahead, the others following close after.

"We're not lovebirds!" The two yelled loudly, before joining the rest. Though, as they walked, their tails stayed wrapped together.

The Sun.

The Moon.

Linked together into one.
