A 'skill' I've ended up honing is a sense of the various art styles of the Umineko manga artists. Generally when I see a panel I can tell what episode it's from based on either context, it being an often-posted panel, or even just... how it's drawn.

Episode 1, 3, and 8 are drawn by Natsumi Kei! Natsumi Kei doesn't draw Battler with his vest. She has a specific way of drawing eyes (for example, drawing Beato's with no/little shading) and Battler's hair is super spiky. She draws Beatrice's dress as entirely black besides the pattern, with some white parts for shading/lighting - a trait which most of the Umineko artists share She also has a tendency towards some fanservice angles/poses (such as that oft-memed panel that shows off Eva's ass while she's raging at her misogynistic brother/family).

She likes to do these 'close-up' shots to show off detailed expressions.

She also draws Beato's eyes with blonde eyelashes! So pretty... A lot of the Umineko manga artists draw Beatrice with blond eyelashes, which always seem so delicate when they do the detailed close ups.

The EP2 mangaka, Jiro Suzuki, contrasts Natsumi Kei a lot. They use heavier shading at times, and their anatomy is also different - I often get the impression that their Beato is more broad-shouldered, while their Battler is more skinny. Like a twig.

From this panel, you can really get the impression of 'glowing' in a way that you can't get from Natsumi Kei's work.

In general, their style has a lot more detail for things like face and hair. Just like Natsumi Kei, they draw Beato with blonde eyelashes, though they interpret Battler's hair differently.

Battler's clothes feel very flowy, which adds to the sense of him being very skinny. Just like Natsumi Kei, Battler is drawn without his vest. I feel as though there's a sharpness to the joints.

EP4 is drawn by Soichiro! A return to spikier Battler hair. I feel like they tend towards narrower, sharper eyes.

Soichiro has a certain way of paneling... It relies a lot on very similar-looking boxes. They're generally all the same shape, and often the same size. Some examples:

As you may have noticed, Battler is still bereft of his vest. It's probably a choice all of these mangakas made in order to simplify his design.

...I would also like to submit for your consideration the travesty that is the paneling in this page. It's... a bit confusing to follow. This is a tendency in their style - sometimes the emphasis, paneling, etc. isn't quite right. They're a great artist, but I get the feeling that they weren't quite accustomed to this medium at the time of drawing.

EP5 is drawn by Akitaka.

Akitaka is one of my favorite Umineko manga artists by the sheer virtue of the fact that Akitaka restores Battler's vest to its proper place: on his body. Battler's hair is still spiky, but it's a different, sometime toned-down interpretation. The way they shade his hair feels really unique to me - a mix of the usual screentones with some black sections (depending on the angle and level of detail). In general I feel like Akitaka works a lot with screentones to add a lot of shading to their panels.

Rather than using pure black for Beatrice' dress, it's a mix of black and screentones. Part of this is for lighting, but it also allows Akitaka to show a lot more details for the dress, which the artists who use primarily black for the dress can't do.

Akitaka also has some really detailed expressions. They manage to bring a lot of character to even the 'dead' Beato.

EP6 is drawn by Hinase Momoyama. Battler's vest, the most important character in Umineko, triumphantly remains. However, Battler's hair is less spiky and more slicked-down. Like Akitaka, there are often black sections of it, but these are more often at the front, rather than the back, of the head.

Beatrice's dress varies from "mostly black" to "mostly screentones" in EP6. Elder Beatrice, however, has these very detailed and eye-catching ruffles to her skirt. She is also drawn with sharper eyes and expressions than Chick Beatrice, who is wide-eyed and has very flowy princess sleeves on her dress.

Battler comes off as super cute when he's angry, rather than something more menacing or serious, as he does in Natsumi Kei's art. For comparison: (EP6, then EP8)

This is probably a result of how Natsumi Kei draws 'sharper', while Momoyama uses rounder shapes.

EP7 is drawn by Eita Mizuno, who is a saint for managing to draw beautifully for all NINE volumes. NINE. A saint.

They draw Beatrice's dress primarily with screentones, and have very bright, wide eyes.

They use a lot of texture with their screentones, which gives their art a unique feel amongst the artists for the manga.

I'd also like to have a special shout out to this page. The way the art style shifts in the final panel to reflect Lion's shock and horror is an incredible use of the medium. This artist really seems to like these horizontal spreads, but they use the space well.

More masculine characters like Will have narrower eyes, though the pupils/light isn't that different. While characters with light hair like Lion have no screentones for their hair, Will receives a healthy mix: primarily black, with some screentone highlights. Of course, light-haired characters will have screentoned hair depending on the lighting, but in bright lighting, Lion has entirely white hair.

...Also, Battler has once more lost his vest. At least his hair is spiky again...?

That covers all the main mangaka, but there's also the mangaka for the side manga, Tsubasa: Fumi Ito. Their art is really cute and suits the often-comedic stories well. The small highlights they put in hair feels characteristic of their style. They often draw characters with wide, round, bright eyes.

Battler's hair spikiness is toned down (so fluffy...) and his vest returns for the final time. A true blessing.

This is just a super brief overview of it all - there's a lot of characters whose varying depictions I didn't mention, I didn't really talk about how they do backgrounds, and plenty of other things. But Umineko has a lot of talented artists who worked on it, and many of them still sometimes post fanart (or new official art) for the series!

I feel like we should appreciate the amazing range of artists who have done their best to interpret Umineko's story. They all did a great job!

What dresses would each Voltron Paladin wear and why

Don't ask what this is, my brain got distracted when looking for new clothes for the system and now we're here so. If I'm thinking about it you have to think about it too.

Okay so first of all Lance

So with Lance, he's like, I don't think he would originally want to wear a dress. I don't think he has an issue with men wearing dress just more so him wearing dresses, so it would probably take a decent amount of convincing. Or just like, tell him you could pull it off better and then he will instantly do it to spite you.

But yeah once you get Lance on board he's the type to go all out man, so I can see him in like these more extravagant outfits like the dresses above. I choose blue not only because it's his signature colour but also because a lot of the things Lance likes, (Space and the Ocean) have kind of a strong blue theme and he'd probably keep theme because he knows it looks good on him. I think he'd like the more flowy dresses rather than anything that sticks close to him.

Next up is Pidge

Okay now I know both dresses are too very different styles but, I think Pidge would probably prefer the purple dress, I can't exactly explain why I think it's their style I kind of just do. The white dress on the left though is something I think I can see her disliking at first but then kind of getting attached, and I don't think it would be her favourite but they'd probably wear it on special occasions. But yeah Pidge just has this strong kind of uh, goth? is it goth I don't think that's the right word uhm, like maybe alt? vibe about her and its uh kinda witchy so she'd like it I thiink.

Okay Hunk time

Hunk in a dark green dress just makes sense to me, I think the colour suits him well. I think he would probably like the more uh tight-fitting ones, or like the stuff that's simpler. And I'm not saying Hunk can't pull off stuff with like lots of laters or patterns and stuff I just think he'd like stuff like this more. Besides Hunk would probably not want something that covers him entirely because he gets anxious a lot and then sweats a lot and idk he just doesn't strike me as the kind of person who would wear something flowy.

Shiro is pretty easy

It's this dress specifically and only this dress, style-wise I mean. We came across it while searching for dresses for our ball a few months back and now I'm pulling it back up and it's like, instantly reminds me of Shiro he absolutely has to wear this. It's black and sparkly and Shiro is the black paladin and he probably likes sparkly stuff I think? I just think it makes the most sense.

Allura is technically a paladin so

I mean shes a princess so I assume she'd like uh, princess type gowns? maybe not in those colours but I think she'd probably wear bright and vibrant colours, idk man probably something along those lines, maybe in pink or red.

I don't really like anything too flowy and we actually own the dress on the right so- yeah the shorter dresses are good because it's easier to run and fight in if you have to, yes I admit they may look slightly 'Emo' but I swear that's not it- I just like the design and colours

she wears skirts and tights even when it’s cold out but she does have her limits. If it’s seriously painfully cold and she has no choice but to be outside she will absolutely abandon being fashionable for the sake of not freezing to death

that being said. she does frequently make the mistake of underestimating how cold it gets. "it cant be that cold," she says, clueless. and every time, she suffers the consequences

East Asia fashion headcanons:

China: Bold, bright colours. Likes to stand out and likes that he puts an effort into what he wears. Depending on his mood, his clothes could be loose/flowy or tight and body confirming. Likes incorporating traditional prints/elements too. He likes things with long sleeves/bell sleeves. Wears a lot of silk. Loves accessories, whether its sunglasses, earrings, necklaces etc. Loves dainty gold jewellery , he thinks its so elegant, but does wear more trendy jewellery too sometimes. Likes dragon themed jewellery! Wears all types of shoes, from heels to sneakers to boots depending on the outfit! Doesn't really like hats? He thinks they cover up his beautiful hair.

S Korea: More into pastel colours than bold colours. Lots of oversized, comfy clothing. Loose pants. Graphic prints with either cute/cool/edgy-ish designs or says something borderline cringey. He does like a good blazer, tries to make office wear like blazers and pantsuits look more quirky with accessories. I think hes a sneaker enthusiast. He just loves the diversity of the designs/colours. He's more into chunky and modern looking jewellery than elegant jewellery.

Japan: Not very much into bold colours for the most part, but does like to branch out and . Lots of white/brown/grey/blue in his wardrobe, but has some other colours which are also muted like green. I think his clothes wouldn't be too loose/oversized but not overly tight either. However he likes wide trousers though as they're very comfy. He enjoys clothing with shoulder pads in it as he thinks they make him look more sharp? Lots of high neck tops in his wardrobes. Doesn't wear too many accessories, maybe a necklace with a wooden pendant here or there. He does have some nice sterling silver pieces though, he's not really a gold guy. Not too fussy about his shoes in his day to day life, but he does care about the quality though. As long as its not too outrageous and is practical he'll wear it. I do think he is pretty big on high quality dress-shoes though when he goes to meetings and formal events and whatnot. I think he secretly does want to dress a bit more out there like the fashionistas in Harajuku (he does do it sometimes) but does not want to draw too much attention to himself.

Taiwan: Pink is the best colour and she will die on this hill. Elle Woods could never. Loves loves loves skirts, whether they're long or short. They're just so cute and comfy! Has lots of cute hair accessories, a lot of which being floral. Puts a lot of effort into styling her hair. I think she really likes heels, but not ones which are too high. Her favourite are kitten heels just cause they don't hurt her feet too much whilst still looking cute. Surprisingly doesn't often wear a lot of jewellery other than a cute ring/earring or two, she thinks her outfits speaks for itself. When shes being more casual she wears things like cute graphic shirts and shorts/skinny jeans.

Hong Kong: Dresses a bit more edgy than the rest of the East Asians! Favourite colours are black and red, and he often combines the two in his outfits. But obviously those are not the only colours he wears. Lots of hoodies/cargo trousers in his wardrobe, and really likes to wear big boots and trainers. Can see him wearing metal jewellery, maybe in the future he wants a piercing or two (much to Chinas dismay!).

Macau: I don't think there's a colour Macau wouldn't wear but in his wardrobe it's mainly lot of red/green/beige/black and some purple and grey. I think he really likes looking classy, and he definitely does! Nicely fitted/tailored tops/trousers, even when he's not going to meetings. He definitely gets lots of compliments after meetings. Has lots of good quality button ups, and like Japan, is an enthusiast on good quality dress shoes. Has a collection of beautiful waist coats. Looks very sharp. He definitely likes gold jewellery, has some very nice gold rings.

Mongolia: I think he owns lots of turtlenecks/high neck tops/jumpers! Doesn't really wear/like bright/bold colours. Lots of navy blue/black, just darker colours in general. His clothing is comfy/practical without being oversized/loose. Certified pocket-enthusiast. Mongolia produces the best quality cashmere in the world so you bet your ass his wardrobe is full of it! Loves a good trenchcoat and loves his furs. I think he owns quite a few hats! Whether they're more traditional or modern woolly hats, he likes a good hat, especially during the winter (it gets cold af up there y'all). I think he mainly wears boots, and definitely owns very high quality ones. He picked out glasses that compliment his facial features, and his prescription sunglasses for the summer do so too. He still very much likes wearing his deels (traditional Mongol clothing) on a daily basis though. He just feels more comfortable in them. Doesn't often wear a lot of jewellery, his ears are pierced though. I also see him as more of a silver/stainless guy these days. Also shout out to him for finding one hairstyle and sticking to it for all these years. Like Japan, I think he sometimes wants to dress more out-there, but more in an edgy sense (Mongolian metal anyone? ) but again, doesn't want to draw too much attention to himself and is afraid he's far too old to pull it off.

Wardrobe & Styling: Risika PT1

As always, I’ll keep using original names if I’m talking specifically about the original iteration and in quotations and stuff, but I’ll be referring to everyone by their new names in all other situations.

Welp, I guess I'm officially back! In a nutshell, work got really busy and I got distracted by a few other hyperfixations (and I also got a bit self conscious now that I realize this blog actually kind of has an audience). I was going to do a big post explaining what I’ve been up to, but I it was taking too long and I didn’t feel like it, so I guess I’m going to just jump right back in!

I recently started watching a lot of youtube videos about fashion and costuming in movies and tv shows, so I thought it might be cool to do a short series about how I’d dress these characters for my version of the story. Starting, of course, with our girl Risika!

Canon outfits

We don’t get a lot of detailed clothing/outfit descriptions in general, but here’s what we have for her:

Chapter 1 (Now) - Black jeans and a black t-shirt

She doesn’t always wear black, but that was the color of her mood that day.

She also says in this chapter that she wears a silver ring set with a garnet stone

Chapter 15 (1704) - Mens clothes and tangled, unkempt hair

Wearing long skirts was getting too cumbersome for her

Chapter 18 (Now) - Black tank top → cropped body hugging gold tank top with black jeans

Generally keeps her hair its natural old gold color until the end when she adds black stripes to it.

Going off of just this, it seems like Risika is pretty utilitarian when it comes to clothing choices. Very simple, no frills (literally), mostly/exclusively black (contrary to her own narration)…up until when she’s dressing for her fight with Aubrey.

I take this to symbolize Risika’s character journey from being depressed, antisocial, and wanting to hide away from the vampire world (or at least pass through it unnoticed) to embracing her predatory nature and being comfortable with being seen and making her mark as a part of vampire society.

My Version

I want to stay along these same lines as the canon, but add some more nuance and details.

Generally, Roksana favors earth tones and natural materials (to show how attached she is to nature and humanity). She doesn't like things clinging to her too much but she also doesn't like things that are so baggy or flowy that they get in the way (to show her yearning for freedom).

She hates button-ups (too stiff and formal); she likes dresses and skirts in theory, but doesn't often reach for them on a regular day.

For the most part, she likes to keep things simple for her main apparel pieces—solid colors, basic shapes. Shoes and accessories is where she likes to have more ornamentation.

She tends to keep her accessorizing to a minimum because she likes to be able to move unencumbered. She hates carrying bags or wearing hats but she has a pretty extensive shoe repertoire. Her shoes are practical but well-crafted and even ornate.

When it comes to jewelry, gold is her preferred metal. She's not super into precious stones or pearls. She likes wooden or clay beads and semi-precious stones like jasper, jade, or lapis lazuli.

These days, she doesn't wear much makeup, but during time periods where heavy makeup was a thing, she'd wear it in order to blend in.

She typically styles her hair in whatever is fashionable at the time, but prefers to wear it down in its naturally curly/wavy state.

She's more interested in how things feel as opposed to how they look, so comfort, mobility, breathability, and texture are very important to her. She doesn't like feeling trapped.

I really want her wardrobe to speak to her innate longing for freedom and her resilience as well as her connection to the past. I also thought it might be interesting to hint at a secret craving for luxury (a contrast to the idealized image she has of her saintly brother in order to make her feel even more guilty and self hating after she becomes a vampire) and a desire for comfort (or rather, to stay in her comfort zone) but at the same time always being prepared to flee.

I'm still researching the specifics of what was worn at this time/place (it's been surprisingly really difficult to find info about late 17th/early 18th century fashion in Mexico) so I'll probably do a more detailed followup post later on, but Roksana would basically be wearing whatever other people of her social class were wearing in terms of silhouette, fabrics, etc. I don't she would have much flexibility when it comes to self expression at this time (clothing was expensive to make so she probably wouldn't be very trendy or experimental as a working class woman). I think she would favor solid colors over prints and she'd wear almost exclusively earth tones except for a blue rebozo (a long woven shawl of Mexican origin; image below) that was her mother's (blue to represent a touch of the supernatural). No jewelry, either, except for her rosary (although, I'm not sure if this actually counts as jewelry) that was passed down through her father's family.

Because she was raised without her mother and apart from her mother's family, aside from the rebozo, her clothing wouldn't really have many indigenous or African elements to it.

NOW

While she's not into metallics and synthetics, I do picture her style as kind of reminiscent of Y2K era R&B singers, especially in terms of silhouette (small, fitted tops, big pants, chunky shoes), but there are also some goth elements like corset tops, square or high necklines, the occasional puff or bell sleeve. She loves crop tops! For bottoms, she liked wide leg pants, utility/cargo pants, and joggers.

STYLE NARRATIVE

Closer to the beginning of the story, Roksana's outfits are very subdued. It's like she's constantly trying to camouflage. She's also wearing more historical looking clothes to show that she's kind of trapped in the past.

Towards the end, she starts to incorporate some bolder, more eye-catching elements, especially metallics, which also feel more futuristic, like she's finally ready to move forward and she's ready to be seen.

She also starts to dress a little more like Andros, who I picture as having very bold style.

Also, because in my version her hair is dark and curly/wavy, the tiger stripes in her hair aren't going to work out so well, so I was thinking of giving her tattoos, like tiger stripes along one arm, her shoulder and down her back (I have no reference photos for this because everything I could find on pinterest and google images looks stupid). This would not only symbolize her embracing being a predator, but it also shows that she's becoming a little more like Andros (who has tons of tattoos).

(Okay there's been another leak situation today but we're not gonna talk about all that here. I'm not sure if that quick second after the montage counts but I think it's alright to show since its not spoilery and we all kinda knew what the new outfits would be anyway. But just to be safe I'll put it under the cut.)

Willow flowy cardigan real!!! Its so pretty!!!! Thank god that shirt is a yellow rather than orange, that's so much nicer. I was iffy about the look before but now that I think about, she's really giving off autumn-vibes with this colour palette. Fitting. I think my least favourite part is the little leaf on her shirt (Willow has been playing animal crossing :D!!) is navy. Its throwing me off for some reason. But that's not a huge thing. Overall girl is DRESSIN. Love you Willow.

She's a shutterbug now!! That's adorable!!! Love the idea of Willow using photography as an outlet. Snapping shots of her friends and the palismen to express how much she loves them and pinning them by her bedside. Taking pics of human realm plants and wildlife and sunsets and rain and whatever else she finds beautiful and saving them to show her dads when she gets home.

Also...I have a strong feeling this is gonna be plot relevant...Willow's gonna snap a pic and there's gonna be something Weird in the background, I know it.

GOOD AFTERNOON TO HUNTER'S PANTS. This outfit was shown in the concept art for the panel and it mentioned that he sewed the patches into the knees himself. Sewing Hunter real. This puts the image in my head of Camila buying some extra clothes for the kids and she gets Hunter some ripped jeans cuz she's like "I'm pretty sure that's what teens are into right now." And Hunter grits a smile about it but he fucking hates them ("why the FUCK would they sell pre-ripped pants??") and takes it upon himself to fix the issue.

I love that Vee is here and helping in the portal process. I knew she'd be present this season but I didn't expect her to have such an active role in the kids efforts to get back home. But of course she's helping!! It's been months and they've bonded!!! Those are her friends!!!

It's so cute how the kids have clearly personalised the old shack to make into their own little hangout spot. The plants, the fairy lights, the pictures, the mirror the corkboard, the cooler, the attempts at wallpaper, the beanbag, even a fucking BASKETBALL HOOP. This is their place. It's absolutely for very serious portal constructing and plotting but they've clearly had a lot of fun over the months here.

ty for the question! im pretty bad at headcanon lists tbh - im one of those people whos ideas are very rooted in like. the Plot i guess so its hard to just come up with every day stuff. but i can make a list of stuff thats different with thtfy!majima since his character diverges so much from canon ! hes my meow meow

first of all, cane user obviously. his pain and walking improves throughout the years as his more severe injuries heal but he never really stops using it - he has bad pain days, and on those days he uses his cane, simple as.

he keeps the long hair for a lot longer than in canon - its a sort of fuck you to his abusers, they kept it long to hurt him but now he decides he likes it actually so if he likes how it looks then they cant use it to hurt him. he doesnt go back to the undercut until mid forties, and it isnt a straight away thing - he keeps his hair long on top but gets his undercut back, so he can still wear it in a braid, and eventually when saejima comes back is about where he decides he wants to cut it again

bigender. majima is bigender in canon to me but thtfy majimas a lot more open about casually living as a woman. she Kiiiinda knew before the hole but never really looked into it past doing drag casually, but around kiryu she starts exploring again and realises its deeper than that. its kind of a whole dumb thing - "if i start being serious about this will kiryu-chan get it? will he get all confused since he knows i already transitioned and he'll think i'm just faking it or going back the other way?" meanwhile kiryu sees her wear makeup one (1) singular time and falls in love all over again. he will beat the fuck out of ANYONE who says anything about her - she doesnt want him to really, but its kinda flattering

related to that is majimas fashion in general - he never adopts the mad dog persona so he never has the desire to dress up all insane flashy or anything, just the regular amount of ugly 80s clothes. during the 90s its mainly slacks and patterned shirts when masc and tightfitting fem stuff but once they hit mid thirties and have hisa (ill get to hisa. maybe) they kinda throw in some more casual fem stuff? having hisa makes them more secure in just being casually a mother and not having to Dress Up to be a girl so theres a lot of long flowy skirts, off the shoulder sweaters, crop tops etc

hes a seahorse dad. not being in the yakuza means he finally gets to pursue his dream of actually being a father. makoto is transfem hes transmasc so it works out

if youve ever read way of the househusband .... 30+ thtfy!majima is essentially tatsu the immortal dragon. lot of changes obviously but hes a housewife who still employs a very yakuza ideology to the whole thing. and he LOVES HIS FUCKING WIFE

speaking of Echo. all of my kids honestly do technically gender in some form after they learned abt it

Ghost mainly presents masc, sort of unintentionally but honestly they could not care less about whatever it has going on. There's very Rare occassions they feel like leaning more toward being a tiny bit more feminine for a little while but dresses and skirts are definitely not on their top kinds of outfits unless you asked them very nicely

Clover is similar to Ghost in that it doesn't really care that much, but seems to prefer androgyny. Will however wear pretty much whatever it feels like, and never really understood why clothes pertained to certain genders. Actually, im not even sure if it understands what a gender is. Probably the only one who would actually wear shorts, and does at least like having little accessories like hair clips

Azu definitely loves to present femme a lot of the time, after growing out zir hair instead of keeping it short in the distant past. Ze loves dresses and skirts, and has a particular soft spot for very flowy ones. Ze doesn't mind other outfits, but zir preference for dresses and such definitely is known

Hornet's the only one who was cursed w/gender, and is fairly content w/being a woman. Mostly. (She's demigirl) Honestly doesn't mind dresses or skirts but finds them impractical and prefers pants unless its for some kind of event or something. She does still enjoy little things like ribbons, if the one on her cape says anything- but keeps accessories to a minimum too

and of course Echo really depends on how they feel. Most of the time they're perfectly content with presenting androgynous, and usually sometimes just ties their hair different or lets it down. Clothing wise it does also really just depend how they feel at that moment. There are some Rare cases where they really do not feel like wearing something like a suit and some Very Rare days they don't want a dress. But beyond that, they honestly just want to b comfy

What does Peach use to supplement her face blindness? Like for my I’ve noticed hair makes a big difference for me, shape color length etc., also glasses. Body shape, voice, choices in clothing, smell. Even potentially more specific things, like I can tell who in my immediate family is coming down the hallway or up/down stairs by the sound of their steps, the cadence and weight of the sounds.

Further, what identifies Grey or Plum in her mind? I imagine Grey’s size and Plum’s hair help a lot

Peach is highly audio and scent based, What you smell like, the sound of your voice, and how you move around will help her a lot. Some staff have old injuries, stiff knees, sore hips, some are younger and bounce around on their heels, some older who take their time doing things. The deodorants, perfumes and lotions people use helps a lot, or perhaps they have a scent that relates to their pokemon partner or job (eg. fire pokemon leave trainers smelling a little smokey normally, or perhaps they work in the greenhouses, each one has its own smell).

Some staff choose to wear very specific materials and colours they like, so that can be a handy indicator. They're required to wear one piece of Island uniform just to keep it clear to the public who can help if need be, so what they prefer and how they wear it is helpful. Some really dig the overalls for example, and only wear those to work, which helps Peach narrow down who's who from a quick glance.

Footfall, shoe type, the pokemon someone has around them, the tools they carry, the colours they like, all accumulate enough for her to make up for the lack of a face. Luckily her job is heavy on the observation front, she's gotta diagnose without words, so little details do not escape her when she's actively looking for them.

With regards to Grey, he's been around long enough that she's quite good at noticing him, its a combination of the aftershave he uses, a really earthy scent, sandalwood and spices, his build which is admittedly quite prominent, his clothes are familiar, she's done enough laundry to know the materials and patterns he picks, fabric feel stays with her, textures and such. His voice cuts through any doubt too. She knows him, more than anyone, so he's easy now.

As for Plum, luckily she usually has the ranger jacket on, thats a great aid, Peach is pretty sure some days she keeps it on her on purpose to help, throws it over her arm or shoulder when visiting, even if it's a little hot out for it. She uses a fancy shampoo, can't miss the smell. A quiet cheat however, Peach mixed up some essential oils from the garden and pokemon on the island, does it for the gift shop to sell in larger batches, but made a special blend for Plum, so she can tell her apart from anyone else without a shred of doubt. Changes with the season but she always makes one batch thats totally different to the ones sold at the docks, totally unique. She lies and says it's unwanted stock, so Plum doesn't notice she's soft. Should this fail, voice, body language and her pretty hard to miss hair colour all help out a lot.

A lot of the face blindness can be worked around, people are varied enough to have a million other things to pick up on. Theo for example never wears hoodies, is a great lover of flowy materials and sheer fabrics, and usually smells sweet, that coupled with the sound of her voice, and the hair from her woobat on her sleeve, peach knows. This goes for every member of staff. Each has a combination of traits that she does he best to remember. New staff usually get told she's a little bad at recognising faces, so they don't get offended if she hardly recognises them early on. peach keeps a cheat sheet in her desk draw, full of notes and information on each member of her team, so she can reference it when she gets a little lost.

Chanel

Chanel has been repeatedly accused of racially profiling Black customers and last year they hired a white woman as head of their "diversity and inclusion" department.

Gucci

Gucci has a complicated history with the Black community, stemming from them all but trying to destroy Dapper Dan's business only to hire him two decades later. Most recently they came under fire for releasing a sweater that had suspiciously Blackface elements and stealing designs from Black designers.

Prada

Prada has a similar history and they recently had to apologize after releasing a collection of monkey key chains.

Dior

Dior's most recent fragrance campaign came under fire for racist undertones but a Black Hollywood stylist also gave BET.com an account of an incident that she had with a brand. The stylist requests to remain anonymous says, "they compromised our creative relationship by not following through on requests and instead loaning looks that were promised to me to white actors instead."

Celine

Celine's branding is notoriously extremely thin and extremely white. A quick scroll of their social media will reveal exactly their opinion on Black lives.

Barney’s 

Before going bankrupt, Barney's had to pay out a settlement in a racial discrimination case of $525k to two plantiffs. 

Moda Operandi

A former employee of the company released this thread on Moda Operandi, citing several micro aggressions she suffered there. 

Burberry

Burberry issued an apology after releasing a sweater featuring a noose motif.

Tommy Hilfiger

In 1996, Tommy Hilfiger famously made comments against the Black community and has since clarified what he meant, but the hurt in the community lingers. 

Moschino 

Managers discriminated against black customers who did not appear to be rich or famous.

“If a potential black client was not a celebrity and did not have an outward appearance of money via diamonds or name brands, defendant [Ranna] Selbak called them a ‘Serena’ to other sales associates and wanted the ‘Serena’ to be closely watched,” according to the complaint.

Versace

A former male Versace employee sued Versace for allegedly firing him after his manager realized he was Black.

Zara

Zara was accused of using racial code words for black and Latinx customers. The Center for Popular Democracy surveyed 251 Zara employees in New York City about the retailer’s practices. Poll respondents said that when the term “special order” was used at the store, employees were to find the location of the shoppers in question and follow them around. Black customers were most often described as “special orders,” according to the survey results.

Reformation 

They were criticised for their internal practices by a black former employee, Elle Santiago. Santiago said she was denied work promotions in favor of white colleagues, as well as being ignored by the company founder, Yael Aflalo, because of her race.

“Being overlooked and undervalued as a woman of color who worked and managed their flagship store for three years was the hardest,” Santiago wrote in an Instagram post picked up by industry watchdog Diet Prada. “I cried many times knowing [that] the color of my skin would get me nowhere in the company.” 

Urban Outfitters

“As one of very few PoC [people of color] I quickly noticed the toxic environment I’d joined,” says the former employee, who wishes to remain anonymous. “Within my first month my manager made a flippant racist comment in regards to an Uber I’d called; the driver’s name was Muhammad. Her comment was, ‘You would get a Muhammad’ – in what I can only take as a comment made because of my heritage.

“There’s no PoC in the executive team and very little representation of PoC in head office, on the website, marketing campaigns and within the retail management teams.”

The company has a history of producing offensive items of clothing, including a seemingly blood-spattered T-shirt seen as a reference to the 1970 Kent State shootings; a T-shirt in a color named “Obama/Black”; another featuring a six-pointed badge, which seemed to allude to the Star of David badge that Jewish people were forced to wear during the Holocaust; and a racially insensitive Navajo line which used the Navajo nation name illegally.

*puts on my character design analysis hat* as much as i like dissing gotouge's writing, theyre excellent at character design (pretty much all of them are bangers) but lets see, ill do top 3 and bottom 3

top 3

#1 - Shinobu

I love how her whole design basically screams elegance, from the butterfly pin in her hair to even her kyahan replicating the haori pattern, of pale insect wings that would glimmer in the moonlight, the use of purple in her design so she gives off an air of royalty, even kyojuro doesnt quite have that innate royalty-look that she does

#2 - Yoriichi

On the opposite end of the spectrum, there's Yoriichi who for all intents and purposes, has one of the plainest designs of the entire cast. Really the only visual aspects that are purely his own is the color crimson, his hanafuda earrings, and his Marking, his clothes are common, his hairstyle was common, his eyes are surprisingly plain considering that gotouge loves designing strange-looking eyes for characters (ahem, douma), but the plain look really sells the idea that hes Just Some Guy and not a battle-worn savior for the people like the entire narrative had suggested

#3 - Akaza

All the demon designs are really good but i particularly love akaza's bc of how every element references parts of his backstory and the core of his character. The blue tattoos emulating his branded tattoos from his crimes during his human days (now hes got a lot bc hes killed a lot more people yknow?) and the primarily blue and white color scheme hes got going on in general to suggest the coldness of his compass snowflake ability, but the bright pink accents help break it up and references his beloved's kimono, that despite letting go of his humanity, she has touched him with a kindness that has affected him so deeply in his core that his subconscious will never ever forget it, that he was loved and he loved back

This is more nitpicky than anything but his design doesnt really show the chaotic wildness of his character as much as it should. There really should have been random scars and burns and tans and tangled hair, and etc etc etc, also his swords dont have a practical sheath for him to hold them in, and in the anime character design sheets, they just stuck the blades on his hips with no explanation for how it doesnt just fall off since hes not wearing a belt. I do like what we have right now, just think figuring out the practical applications as well as showing his history as a kid who grew up in a forest would improve it

#2 - Tanjirou (specifically anime)

They cut his hair, need I say more? I'm joking but, it's more along the lines of how underwhelming his color scheme is. I love the deep and intense red gotouge always colored him in as in the manga, but in the anime, his hair is so dull and his eyes are a more pinkish-red, it doesn't quite sell his connection to the sun as much as it should, the green is fine, im just annoyed about the red lol (also his hair, my boy should have kept his long hair)

#3 - Muichirou

There just isn't enough going on, and its very plain when it really shouldn't be. I love the idea of them using more flowy garments as both a way to improve the effectiveness of their techniques and to maybe hint at more of the worldbuilding for Mist Breathing users, but that's basically it, there's nothing to grab your attention with. I think adding a mist-patterned yukata to also hint at his background wearing the same kind of clothes wouldve vastly improved and also pushed the idea that "hey, this is the mist pillar, dont ever forget it"
