Beautiful.
I got a nice collection of IBM's, an Amiga 500 and a broken C64 (which I'm gonna get to fixing eventually), but I've been looking to expand to other home computers for a long time and now that I'm finally gonna have lot more income I've have begun to expand my collection, starting with a ZX Spectrum. I wasn't looking for anything too specific, just hoping to come across a decent 128k model, but I ended up buying this +2 since it came with everything I'd ever want: computer itself, a competition pro joystick, fresh RGB cables and a module that lets me run games through micro sd. It wont play those +3 disk releases or weird Russian experiments, and is probably incompatible with some older software, but so far its been working like a dream and OSSC scales it nicely too!

Batman, 1986 Ocean/John Ritman & Bernie Drummond
ZX Spectrum, Cassette
As a kid I was never really jealous of the games on the Speccy, they had great games for sure but for the most part I was happy that my Dad decided to buy me the Commodore 64 and not the Spectrum 48k. Batman was the exception to that rule! I was gutted that the game that came before Head over Heels never got a C64 release as I was a massive fan of isometric games and the games of John Ritman and Bernie Drummond.
When it comes to the box art this thing is gorgeous, as good as The Caped Crusader I think, Bob Wakelin sure did know how to paint Batman! Stunning.

1982 Sinclair ZX Spectrum Computer by Numenor
This computer was revolutionary for its time. It was one of the best-selling home computers of the early 80s and allowed people more access to video games at home via downloading them from a cassette player.
Numenor's version comes with custom sounds that'll take you back to 1982. (The ZX Spectrum was known for the unique sounds it made.)
Check the full post on Modthesims for download info!

Pixel graphics in the style of the Sinclair ZX Spectrum loading screen.
The 256x192 pixel resolution was not arbitrarily colourable. To conserve memory, colour is stored separate from the pixel bitmap in a low resolution, 32×24 grid overlay, corresponding to the character cells. In practice, this means that all pixels of an 8x8 character block share one foreground colour and one background colour.

ZX-Spectrum+ 128K (1985)

The appearance of the ZX Spectrum+ 128 is similar to the ZX Spectrum+, with the exception of a large external heatsink for the internal 7805 voltage regulator added to the right hand end of the case, replacing the internal heatsink in previous versions. This external heatsink led to the system's nickname, "The Toast Rack".
New features included 128 KB RAM with RAM disc commands, three-channel audio via the AY-3-8912 chip, MIDI compatibility, an RS-232 serial port, an RGB monitor port, 32 KB of ROM including an improved BASIC editor, and an external num keypad.
The Zilog Z80 processor used in the Spectrum has a 16-bit address bus, which means only 64 KB of memory can be directly addressed. To facilitate the extra 80 KB of RAM the designers used bank switching so the new memory would be available as eight pages of 16 KB at the top of the address space. The same technique was used to page between the new 16 KB editor ROM and the original 16 KB BASIC ROM at the bottom of the address space.
The new sound chip and MIDI out abilities were exposed to the BASIC programming language with the command PLAY and a new command SPECTRUM was added to switch the machine into 48K mode, keeping the current BASIC program intact (although there is no command to switch back to 128K mode). To enable BASIC programmers to access the additional memory, a RAM disk was created where files could be stored in the additional 80 KB of RAM. The new commands took the place of two existing user-defined-character spaces causing compatibility problems with certain BASIC programs. Unlike its predecessors, it has no internal speaker, and can only produce sound from a television speaker.
ZX Spectrum+ 128K, this is a rare model because it was in production for a very short time, as it was immediately replaced by the ZX Spectrum +2.
