"Okay, the first thing I need to do is get an idea of how your senses work compared to mine.

We're at the top of the ridge that encloses our camp.

I'm going to close my eyes and you're going to tell me what you can hear, feel, smell, and otherwise sense around you as well as how far away it is.

Start whenever you're ready."

Jaypaw sat there, mouth half open in stunned shock. Was Brightheart actually going to teach him?!

He did his best to pull his thoughts together and inhaled deeply.

"ShadowClan lives closer to where the sun sets than we do. And not just because the stench of them is strong enough to scare a rabbit.

The tang of the pines tells me there can’t be much undergrowth, so the cats who hunt there must be good at stalking in open air and flushing out their prey.”

He turned his head in the opposite direction.

“I can smell the moorland from where the sun rises. The wind comes in a great unbroken sweep, undisturbed by trees.

The cats who live there must be fast and small to hunt in such open territory.

They don't even have the trees to hide them like we do and ShadowClan does. Makes me wonder how they deal with predator birds...”

Brightheart's breath hitched as if she were in pain and her paws shifted uncomfortably.

"Hopefully better than we did," she sighed.

"Who knows. Snowkit might be with us today if we'd asked them after the fire..." Brightheart trailed off, lost in thought.

Jaypaw decided not to say anything. She seemed distressed by the very idea, and it wasn't likely that getting her attention would go well. After a few heartbeats, Brightheart shook herself out.

"Birds won't hurt us here." She murmured shakily, voice cracking with grief. "I won't let you end up like Snowkit. Keep going, your report is interesting."

"RiverClan live across the lake, even if I can’t catch their scent. It’s hidden by the scents from the lake and the water-scent itself, which are stronger today because of the wind.

I *can* say that RiverClan will feel the coming rain first because the wind is driving the waves this way. I can hear them slapping against the shore."

"Well done, Jaypaw. Here's what I can tell."

She practically repeated everything he said, with a few extra details he hadn’t noticed. She couldn't tell the water-scent like he could, but she could tell him about the scents from the lake. She also noted several things about how WindClan and ShadowClan hunted, as well as where the Clan scents were fresher versus where they were weaker. When Jaypaw asked why she needed to know that, Brightheart said it helped her detect and avoid a patrol by when cats were most likely to be around.

Talking it out

“My sight were stolen from me,” Brightheart said quietly.

“I was stupid and cocky as an apprentice. We all were.

Bluestar wasn't herself, ThunderClan was breaking down, Firestar was doing his best to lead in her stead without the help, experience, or reliability of anyone else in the Clan…

it's a wonder we're still around to teach the next generation.

Longtail might tell you the same thing, though he was a bit older than me when he lost his sight.

We had to compensate for something we'd lost. You've been doing that your whole life, without ever needing to struggle for it.

Things like walking and not tripping or bumping into objects is hard, for me and Longtail both. I bet you use your whiskers to figure out what's in front of you. It took me quite a bit to learn to do that.

But what do you do when there's just open air? When a cat is moving too fast to sense? When the rocky ground cuts off too suddenly? Do you have answers for those yet?”

“No,” Jaypaw growled, hot with embarrassment.

“That's okay. Nobody’s perfect and whoever says they are is full of maggots.”

Jaypaw laughed despite himself.

“It's just something to work on when we train.”

i don't think there is a concrete external reality of sexuality that we are merely creating labels to describe. i think the fundamental experience of sexuality is shaped by the labels and ideas available to us. people will always exist who don't conform to the norms of their time and will drive the development of new terms and new ideas but they do that within their own context not because of some like........ ontological pattern

Since book 7 part 5 (the part where we meet Meleanor/Maleanor 👀) is coming to EN this month, i would love to see your take on lilia’s proposal to meleanor! i mean they were like little kids right? it couldn’t have been that serious…i think the only reason she even brought it up again is because she could tell lilia still genuinely loved her…(even if he didn’t realize it himself?) but, oh well! I chickened out of posting the whole thing (look, I get VERY carried away when it comes to these wacky kids and their Tragedy), but I do believe that it probably ended with Lilia getting embarrassed and just shoving the first thing he sees into his mouth to try and cover for it.

(I started sketching this design nearly immediately after season 2 ended but just now had some time to clean it up so. Excuse me rambling out loud here)

TLDR; I actually really liked the initial design + direction for Warwick-Vander (I <3 human faced werewolves)! But the show design kinda felt like a transitory state between Vander and Warwick to me, so I wanted to try my hand at blending his Arcane design with his in game design. Like a "what would he look like if the transformation kept going" kinda thing. There's a few things I'm not fully settled on, but Im mostly satisfied :)

When season 2 first started, I sort of had it in my head that the narrative would have Vander "die" for Warwick to finish the transformation into his final form, forcing Vi and Jinx to finally say goodbye together. Well! That didn't happen lol. I mean. Vander did "die", but whatever was left behind isn't really Warwick. I'm not quite sure what they were going for, either with him or with how Jinx "dies", its all just a little messy when i feel like there was a more obvious narrative conclusion.

Visually i think the final design in the show is cool removed from context, but it doesn't really make sense to me in regards to the story. Like. Warwicks whole thing is that he curbs his violent impulses by killing "bad guys" in the undercity. League lore is a hot fucking mess and I don't even go there so I get that they (the writers) were playing fast and loose but I can see why so many Warwick fans were less than pleased with where the show leaves him, because it doesn't really feel like the same character outside of his initial experimentation.

In my own idea palace, Jinx fakes her death and leaves Warwick to be Zaun's new mascot. Having this literal monster that eats bad guys and saves innocent people in the process become a new symbol for Zaun feels like a no brainer to me. Imagine the iconography they'd make for this thing! And it brings Vanders whole schtick back around; he still "dies" but the Literal Memory of him lives on in Zaun, still protecting the people he cared about most. You get the bittersweet ending of Vi and Jinx having to move on because hes not really their dad anymore, but their memory is what keeps Warwick "human", still with Zaun even if Vi is doing Piltover shit and Jinx is off exploring the world.

Idk! I know the implication that Jinx faked her death is there, but whatever happens to Warwick seems to be like they didnt really have the time to fully explore the ideas they were going for, so a couple characters just got kinda left floating at the end there. If Ekko and Jinx werent going to run away together, I wanted to see Ekko befriending Warwick so they could fight to make Zaun a better place.

I have more coherent ideas than this but it's 3 am when im typing this so sorry if im not eloquent enough to properly explain what im thinking. Ekko and his weird dog that used to be his uncle. Imagine.

as far as i understood from previous posts, Machete loves snails, but how does Vasco feel about them? does he try to love them for Machete's sake?

Maybe "loves" is a strong word. He certainly likes them more than an average person, can get lost quietly observing a passing snail for a long while, and has read about them to understand them a little better, but they aren't his main passion in life or anything. He sees a snail and feels fond, positive emotions for reasons he can't fully explain. They're common, overlooked animals and they remind him of his childhood.

If Vasco ever picked up on this, he might start to doodle little snails on the letters they exchange (in an unintentional callback to the snails you might see in medieval manuscripts). But I doubt it'd ever go beyond than that. Vasco's innate relationship with snails is largely neutral.

also in the face of people deleting their blogs, that's another reason why you guys are supposed to reblog stuff. if somebody deletes a post, your liked version will disappear, but the reblogs remain. i'm insane about preservation and archival, every single piece of art i have ever enjoyed is reblogged on my 450k+ posts main account so if the artists leave I still have their work. i even tag things (though just with the main fandom tag) so I have years and years worth of fanworks saved that the terrible general site search will never show you.

please reblog art. not just to support the artists who make it and share their efforts, but also so you have your own copy of their works saved for yourself, and the future users of this site.

i think tim is high maintenance the way a boarder collie or austrialian shepherd is. like you have to make sure they're not only given space to expend energy but you have to specifically let them get the herding instinct out and challenge them intellectually or they start destroying ur home
