Water holds memories, Stone keeps it forever
Read on AO3
by SunnySama
Neuvillette has beef with the other archons except Nahida. But aren’t Neuvillette and Zhongli dragons? Yes this is a rare pairing that randomly got stuck on my mind. ———————— Neuvillette and Zhongli had a connection, one could say it’s simply because they are the same species. However they had seen the birth of life, humans, mortals, creatures and how Celestial took over Teyvat. The two had separate opinions, ideals and mind set. Zhongli abandoned him to help humans, or Neuvillette would bitterly say that ‘Morax foolishly fell for an adepti, how … human of him’. Now Neuvillette has Furina to train and guide to be a decent Archon, Whilst Zhongli is sipping his osmanthus wine- What happens when the two see each other after nearly 3000 years? Previous arguments resurface, old memories are reminiscing, harboured feelings are coming out. ———————— Zhongli: … Long time no- Neuvillette: You could have retired like a normal person instead of this dramatic set up you pulled Zhongli: ah you’re still mad Venti: Heyyy- Neuvillette and Zhongli: Quiet. ———————— English ain’t my first language so bear with me

LET ME SAY IT ANOTHER WAY : i call myself wound, but i will answer to knife.
an independent roleplay blog for the traveler, lumine / ying from genshin impact, as written by kendall (21+, he/she). minors dni. exploring themes of war, violence, blinding light, gender, being an alien, dehumanizing the hero, adrift in a world not your own, and more.
this blog will stay low activity. minimal formatting. mostly minimal effort. i don't have the energy these days for extensive rpc aesthetics, though i'll spring for a funny little icon every once in awhile. extremely headcanon dependent + canon divergent -- i've completely overhauled everything, down to the character design. not involved in the genshin fandom at large on basically any grounds. please note that while i don't consider myself particularly "selective," i am very busy. heavily affiliated with @kunigutsu's scaramouche, @bezdnayaks childe, & @yanwangye's zhongli.
under heavy construction!
(more extensive pages are under construction, but between the wiki & the caveats i've written below, i'm happy to mess around with plot & answer any questions til then.)
interaction .
as it is, standard interaction rules apply. other than the usual (don't be pushy, don't be a bigot, don't be weird), i'm very chill, i like to plot, to discuss interesting dynamics, & i'm good with every format of writing short to long. i'm fairly new here in terms of genshin impact but have been rping on tumblr for way too long at this point, & i'm coming back after an extended break. one thing, i really prefer it when ideas are exchanged mutually rather than one-way, so if we're plotting, please feel free to hit me with whatever & i'll match that energy!
portrayal .
okay, here's the big thing. please take a moment to briefly read over my interpretation of the traveler! while i enjoy the core lore of the traveler, i'm interested in pushing the personality + characterization notions gestured at by the game and playing around with them, pushing them to different limits. as it stands, my idea of lumine is quite. quite overhauled, so i'd appreciate any double-checking before assumptions are made. i don't own anything beyond the concepts i personally came up with, obviously. as it stands, this is a work in progress always, i'm still making my way through the full plot to boot, so bear with me. also, i am comfortable with duplicates, being followed by and interacting with!
biggest notes .
— my lumine is genderless, and is socially read as on the masculine side of the presentation spectrum. while i'll use she/her for ease, this is NOT a girl. no gender in space, and all that. this definitely includes her canon design! while i might reblog or like art that is designed in alignment with canon, that's not actually how i see her at all. give her pants. bigger muscles. strong strong hands. i'll write notes up on it in the future at some point. — genshin impact's got some, huh, things going on in terms of weird age gesturing while still being plenty sexualized. don't know what that's about. don't like it. don't subscribe to it. lumine is, appearance wise, mid 20s, but much older than that in actuality, obviously. — vital here, i basically do not know about fanon, i just got here, but what i've seen scares me so so so bad. i do not jive with essentially any of the "blushy, soft, ultra-squishy" of lumine. again! dni! — she's a fighter, intense, a little adrenaline-fueled. rougher around the edges, a little angrier, a little pushier; a little bit rude and sharp and to the point at times. i portray her with the idea that while she is helpful, she can be a bit begrudging, a bit worn through and over it, and absolutely not liked by most people she comes into contact with. i'm very down to explore dynamics that are more fraught than friendly.
character thesis in the meanwhile! scroll to the bottom for a bonus picrew of the babygirl.
The Cosmic Terror Of Light and Light As A Destructive Force
taking the knight thing to its natural conclusion of a girl who is so so so mad all the time and also so so repressed about it, but like, barely.
I Am Asking You To Endure It coding
getting more impulsive and weird as time goes on. already was kind of not cool not normal but objectively getting worse WHILE getting stronger.
you can trust her with your keys and your personal quest but she might deadpan roast you for your problems in the process.
vibes include being Covered In Blood and clearly exhausted but letting paimon hold her hand when she's scared
This Is My Brother And I Need A Shovel To Love Him
the hero has been irrevocably changed by the journey and even if she could go home, home would no longer exist to her! she knows this and is choosing to ignore it.
emphasis on the feeling alien + isolated + not belonging to the world. you're a strange human-thing that doesnt follow any known laws and well, isn't that a bit sad.

@maquiscursed asked :
Adepti needn't sleep - it is only on Lumine's insistence that the Vigilant Yaksha deigns to close his eyes for a semblance of rest. Adepti needn't sleep; but perhaps he has overestimated his ability to resist it, when no danger lurks, and the Traveller's luminous aura shines gently near him. As they sit and contemplate the views of Dihua Marsh, Xiao unwittingly drifts to sleep; his head tilting to the side, just barely resting upon her shoulder, teal-coloured hair a stark contrast against the white of her dress. Adepti needn't sleep, but in her company, it is a luxury too enticing to resist its comfortable call. (I saw you wanted soft so I send you a little soft)
unprompted. || always accepting
Tumblr media
─「荧」─  it wasn't the first time he told her adepti don't need sleep. the OUTLANDER had heard it not only from him, but from other adepti themselves how they do not require sleep the same way humans do. the traveler was far from human, even so, she did feel the need to rest her mind in slumber from time to time. perhaps, that was also why she insisted for the guardian yaksha to take a small rest with her. there weren't any need for them to be on alert. the air was peaceful, with the wind caressing each their skin and she sat there, offering him a starlit smile he had known her for while patting the empty area next to her.
                she could see a hint of hesitation upon his expression, but her smile remained. and eventually, he relented. the celestial traveler wondered if he spotted the way her smile became just a little wider when he seated himself next to her and closed his eyes. maybe he did, but he humored her anyway.
                gaze of GOLD took in the sight before her, the view that reminded them how precious this world is and how it was the land they swore to protect. him by the oath he had given, and her because this was his home.
                what about her home ?
                the thought crossed her mind momentarily, just before she could feel the small weight of the vigilant yaksha leaning towards her own. it was a peculiar sight, to see him allowing his guard to drop in such a way and while lumine wanted nothing more than to record this moment into picture, that temptation was swept aside in replacement of absorbing the moment in and out of itself. she could hear the faint sound of his breath, and catching a GLIMPSE of his sleeping expression from the side. the ANGLE itself didn't allow her to see proper without moving, and she certainly didn't want to wake him.
                one wouldn't believe that he who had deliberately pulled himself away from others would allow his presence to be so close with someone.
                quietly, the CELESTIAL reached her hand out, partially gloved digits finding his own before filling the gaps between their digits with each their own. the way her fingers fit so perfectly within his own caused amber hues to mellow incredibly. it felt WARM, his fingers, his hand, his palm. it felt right.
                finally, the TRAVELER allowed her head to tilt slightly, barely making a sound as her head rested over his own, being careful not to wake him up in the process. how the contrast of her golden locks seemed to cut through the dark emerald strands of his. some mixed together in a twirling sea of colors, before long lashes draped over her gaze, and her own breathing evened out.
Tumblr media
                their hearts SYNCHED, unconsciously so. the rhythm of two hearts fell into one, accompanied by a faint glow of gold that seemed to trace their backs. a translucent outline barely visible to the naked eye. an invisible bond known only to them, tied with a sort of red golden string at the end of their fingers. fated. bound.
                what about her home ?
                the inquiry popped into her half-conscious mind, slowly slipping into deeper slumber, and lumine ying unconsciously curled her fingers upon their connected hands a little tighter as her mind slowly drifted to sleep.
                her home is right here.
                after all, it's a person, not a place.

So proud to announce that my artist book, The Quickening, designed by @teunvdh, was given second prize for the Australian Photo Book Award last month at the closing of @photofestivalau!! The Quickening is now completely sold out, so copies are now only available through the resale market. Excerpt from the book can be viewed here. Please email or DM to see the full video, otherwise the book can also be viewed at the following libraries: V&A Museum, London International Center of Photography, New York National Library, Canberra Photography Studies College, Melbourne
~~~
“The Quickening is ambitious, subtle, inventive and deeply moving. I can hardly remember the last time I encountered a work that made such wise use of tactility in achieving a photographic vision. So many good decisions.” - Teju Cole The Quickening details the claustrophobia, myopia, paradoxical loneliness and luminance of new motherhood and the postpartum period. Riso and offset printed, this uniquely handmade book was published in a limited first edition of 250 copies, redolent of the number of days of gestation before the premature birth of the author’s son. Additionally, 30 copies from a special edition each come with a choice of one of two prints. This number is indicative of the number of days left until the child’s due date. Created as an editioned art book, each copy is signed and numbered. A variety of papers were used to reflect a haptic complexity in addition to a soft french fold that feels full and fleshy in the hands. A chaotic and varying bind with red string is a nod to the stitches used during the emergency caesarean birth of the child and no book is precisely the same. Finalist for the Vevey Images Grand Prix for 2019 Julia Margaret Cameron Award Honorable Mention for 2019 Solo exhibition at Rencontres d'Arles 2019 Winner of the BIFA Documentary Photo Book Prize 2020 Finalist for the Lucie Foundation Photo Book Prize 2020 Tokyo International Foto Award Honorable Mention for 2020 Official Selection for the London International Creative Competition 2020 Finalist for the Perimeter x PHOTO 2021 International Photobook Prize Winner of Belfast Photo Festival 2021 Bronze medal for the Documentary Book Prize at the Moscow International Foto Awards 2021 Px3 Paris Photo Award Honorable Mention for 2021 Australian Photobook Award Honorable Mention for 2022 Finalist for the 2022 SIPF Photobook Award SEE THE PROJECT ~~~ 90 pages with 116 images French fold Combination of offset and riso print Various uncoated papers Softcover with linen sleeve 8.6 x 11 inches First Edition of 280 + 20 AP   Self Published Photos & text © 2021 Ying Ang Design Heijdens Karwei, Amsterdam ISBN: 978-0-646-83323-1 Printed in the Netherlands ~~~ Critical Reviews: "The Quickening wears its handmade-ness on its sleeve. A ream of loose papers held together with a complex patterned variation on a Japanese stitch tells the reader that this is a personal and intimate document… The cacophony of imagery we are presented with oscillates between the manic, the incredibly dark, the gentle, the dreamlike and the intimate… Ang’s book is an exploration of photobook making, and how narrative works in the visual book form—it pushes and stretches concepts of storytelling, of showing and revealing. And finally, it’s a moment of total honesty and openness told in the only way it could have possibly been told." - Daniel Boetker-Smith for Lensculture "Work like Ang’s has such profound value for articulating hard-to-reach experiences that language often fails to capture. She entangles the viewer in the web of social and political issues surrounding the transition into motherhood that are too often ignored and overlooked... The psychoanalyst Carl Jung wrote, “only the paradox comes anywhere near to comprehending the fullness of life” – a sentiment that manifests in Ang’s book over and over again" - Gem Fletcher for Creative Review "Ang’s images are carefully composed and meticulously photographed, showing a mastery and deft use of photographic technique. She uses a wide range of tonality, lighting, contrast, and printing methods to produce different textures and moods, as well as many unexpected transitions from page to page. Many images burst at the seams with symbolism and layers of meaning, resulting in work that rewards repeat viewing and contemplation." - Andy Pham for Paper Journal "The pictures in The Quickening are a gorgeous cacophony of tender and tension-filled scenes interwoven with moments of luminosity which show how easily the lightest moments of motherhood can slip into the difficult ones (and back again). There’s a softness to the pictures, too – a dreaminess that feels like the first moments of waking up, where everything is a little blurry and sleep images linger." - Joanna Cresswell for Refinery29 "Ang’s depiction of matrescence is layered and complex. Her images blend the gentle and soft, with a strain and rawness that becomes all-consuming. Velvety skin is enveloped in warm, delicate light. But, motifs of that tenderness behind misted glass at once suggest fullness and a claustrophobic repetition. The narrative is textured and sensual; it mirrors the intensity of Ang’s lived experience." - Izabela Radwanska Zhang for the British Journal of Photography
Night fell hours ago. The moon was hung in full view for all to admire but the feeble light it emitted could barely be seen among the drifting wispy clouds.
The only thing that was keeping the room illuminated was the tender golden glow of the fire sitting in the two standing lamps.
Like every night ever since Wangshu Inn received her, a figure, right when no one was around, once again emerged from the shadows.
His piercing gaze —  the only thing he allowed himself to touch her with — was contradictingly gentle as he accessed her pale face and listened to her breathing.
The tension on his forehead relaxed in what seemed to be... relief, at the absence of the harsh, shallow breaths he heard her fight to take when he found her.
He didn’t like how his steady hands shook then, with a strange…uneasiness, almost like fear.
“Paimon will stay with her, thanks lady boss!”
Voices outside of the door snapped his focus back.
“Simply ‘Boss’ will do, Paimon.”
His piercing eyes flickered back down to her and widened almost instantly to the sight of his outstretched hand, which somehow between his absent thoughts had ended up merely inches away from her face.
Flinching his hand away as if he was scalded, the figure in the room retreated from the bed and vanished into the darkness like the wind.
The moon was hung in full view for all to see but the feeble light it emitted could barely be seen among the drifting wispy clouds.
The only thing that was keeping the room illuminated was the tender golden glow of the fire sitting in the two standing lamps.
Just like how it was before, the room was left empty once more. As if he was never there in the first place.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Quiet movements behind her eyelids reciprocated to the gentle touch of a light breeze curling against her cheeks like doting caresses.
The sense of weightlessness was beginning to lift from her as dainty songs of singing birds and the soft creaks of wood started growing into her consciousness.
She could hear careful footsteps as well and felt more than saw a presence hovering near her, its warmth brushing against her skin until something damp was placed between her brows.
Her forehead clenched in a frown against the new sensation sitting on her face. Her fingers curled into something cushy and velvety as a weak groan left her lips.
Light beyond her eyelids beckoned her to open her eyes and so she did, squinting against the intruding brightness until she could finally adjust to the light.
Her vision focused into clarity and was greeted by a familiar stranger.
“You are...?” She blinked in puzzlement as she racked her brain for an answer.
Confusion marred a frown between her brows at the Inn’s boss who was standing over her with a mild smile — the fog in her groggy mind made it hard to answer the vague sense of recognition nagging her.
“Verr Goldet. Boss of Wangshu Inn.” The lady filled in the blanks helpfully, “Nice to have you back with us, Lumine.”
Wangshu Inn?
She tried to wrap her fuddled head around the new information as a memory of her running away from Dark Hilichurls with Paimon flashed past.
“Wait, but I was…” She was pretty sure she was a goner then. “How did—”
“You were out for so long, Lumine!” A floating little figure flew right up to her face before Verr Goldet could finish.
Lumine winced instantly to the sharp rise in volume.
“Shhh…You-You’re so loud.” She felt her head throb.
Paimon let out a small gasp and her face fell with a sheepish look.
“Oops sorry, Paimon is just excited ‘cause Paimon has been so worried...!”
“Sorry for worrying you, Paimon.” An apologetic smile sat weakly on her face. “But how long have I been sleeping?”
“And…” Her gaze shifted back to Verr Goldet, face scrunched in confusion “...how did I end up here?”
“Pretty long,” The lady boss merely nodded, “It’s been three days ever since Xiao-sama found and brought you to me.”
Xiao?
Her eyes widened.
Then that voice she heard...
The thirst to answer all the questions in her head spurned her to sit up in one quick move, only to be greeted by a sharp jolt of pain in her leg. “—ah!”
The giddiness swimming in her head made her see stars.
“Easy there, Lumine,” Verr Goldet’s voice matched the gentle backrubs the hand on her back made. “Afterall, you just overcame quite an ordeal.”
“An ordeal?” She held her head. “What happened to me?”
“You were down with high fevers due to the poison from the thorns of a Yingxuē and thankfully, that toxin could be easily flushed out through perspiration.”
“Ying…” The queasiness in her throat subsided. “...xuē?”
Then it dawned on her.
Oh right, it had totally slipped from her that her leg got injured all because of that bush and its stray branch.
And that was when she heard him.
“But Xiao…”
She still found it hard to believe — wasn’t that voice just a hallucination caused by the poison flooding her blood?
“Was he really there?”
Paimon nodded aggressively. “He was, he was!”
There was a spark in her eyes, “Right after you fainted, he appeared out of nowhere, striking down from the sky like lightning and finished off the Hilichurls in one sweep of his polearm!”
There was admiration she’d never seen in Paimon for Xiao since she did not have a good impression of the adeptus previously.
“...He was so fast Paimon could barely catch what happened!”
A chuckle turned her head back to the lady boss.
“That’s Xiao-sama for you,” Verr Goldet beamed, “He is afterall our mighty Guardian Yaksha; monsters are measly flies to the power of an adeptus.”
Lumine remained silent for a while.
Strong gratitude resonated in her heart along with a nearly tangible ache of curiosity and wonder for the adeptus.
“Is he here?”
A smile crept across Verr Goldet’s face.
“If you know where to look.”
— as she made her way out the door, behind the opened door was a brilliant view of the sky.
“But…” A rush of wind blew through the door, “...whether or not you would find Xiao-sama, it will be all up to him.”
The lady boss's smile turned mysterious as she looked back at them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The setting sun on the horizon waned in the gathering darkness of the approaching night.
Guests residing in Wangshu Inn were mostly back from errands they had to run and settling down in the eateries the Inn had to offer.
Of course, Paimon would never give food a miss especially when Verr Goldet just invited her for a second round of dinner. Somehow during the days when she laid in the room on the highest floor battling the poison in her body, the lady boss had grown familiar with Paimon’s huge appetite.
Verr Goldet offered her a second dinner as well but Lumine had other ideas.
She had her fill in the room she woke up in and ordered a certain dish she insisted on paying, not wanting to be a freeloader but to no avail because—
“Xiao-sama trusted us to take care of you so it would be rude not to honor his trust.”
—the lady boss insisted after leaving behind a tray of her dinner.
The simple white garb on her was loosely comfortable to move in, but the winding staircase up to the upper balcony proved to be a challenge when she had to limp on one leg with a crutch tucked under an armpit while holding onto a takeaway lunchbox.
It had been what felt like five minutes ever since she began climbing the stairs. The dressed wound on her leg throbbed every step she took; the struggle to move were evident in her harsh raspy breaths and the way the thin coat of sweat stuck her fringe to her forehead.
Her other hand was clenched tight on the banister, knuckles white with effort.
And when she finally reached the top, she couldn’t help letting out a loud sigh of relief.
Lumine squinted her eyes against a burst of wind from the gaping door as she hobbled out into the open.
Her hair was blown back in the rushing wind and she could not hold back a shiver to the cool tickles of the ocean breeze.
“...Xiao?” She called out gingerly.
There was nothing but the wind and the sweeps of the waves below.
“It’s me, Lumine!”
Her eyes wandered to the dark sky above her as she continued to limp forward.
Her voice calling out to him kept scattering in the wind no matter how many times she tried or how loud she threw her voice into the wind.
Looking lost with sad eyes at the vast sky and the seemingly huge moon above, her voice grew weaker until there was no more.
Maybe this was how it is.
Perhaps to him...
The hopeful glint in her gaze dimmed as she lowered her gaze to a cruel thought in her head.
...she was nothing but just a mere mortal. Simply an annoyance he had to grudgingly protect.
— to make things worse, she didn’t even belong to this world.
Even so...
Her shoulders squared; her resolve to thank him refused to let her give up.
...just one last time.
Then she would stop — this bitter promise sank her heart.
“Please Xiao," Lumine raised her gaze again,  "I know you’re out here. I’m sorry I’m back here again.”
She hobbled forward.
“I know you told me to leave you alone but I just—thunk” She felt the leg of the crutch supporting her hit an uneven portion of the wooden floor beneath her feet.
Her crutch cluttered to the ground before she could adjust her grip.
A sharp gasp surged through her throat as she staggered forward.
The ground was rushing fast toward her, the box in her hand was slipping from her hand.
Horror sept into her widening eyes.
Oh no oh no, the almond tofu is going to—
Then as if materializing out of thin air, a firm hold appeared around her waist and tugged her up in one swift move against a warm, breathing wall that could talk—
“What are you doing?”
Wei Ying wasn’t a small guy, but Lan Zhan was broader and stronger than Wei Ying, and it was as he thought about it that Wei Ying felt the tingling on his shoulder, letting out a yelp, lifting one hand to rub at the spot, only to have his fingers meet soft strands instead.
don’t ship / okay / cute / adorable / perfect / beyond flawless / hot damn / screaming and crying / i will ship them in hell
Link to my thoughts on all Zhongli ships !
I am really putting myself more in canon shoes for this and for this meme I really see as Aether and Lumi being the same person, only an option of who is the chosen MC. So it is really a Zhongli x Traveler answer ? Be it Aether/Kong or Lumine/Ying ! I really really like Zhongli with the Traveler (aka not the Abyss Twin).
He has such a massive soft spot for them it is really really goddamn sweet and hot. The only thing I’m “:/” about is people mentioning that Zhongli could see Guizong in them, but for me it would go against Zhongli moving on ? But that is really just it. I think that Zhongli with a flustered Traveler is so damn endearing hhNNNnnnnnGGgg... Their earnestness and kind heart just went right through his he took a liking to them so quickly (Friendship 10 ~).
Flames can only wish for the frost.
Read on AO3
by PyroMonarch
So much of the frost-wind swordsman is hidden behind carefully placed facades, that those closest to him know little of his true self.
The only ones who did, were flames. One was a flame lit brightly, but know only when cloaked by the darkness does the flame truly burn, the other a flame gentle but too powerful, burning itself away.
Nether flame knows of each other, although they share a yearning for a frost they cannot have.
The frost wishes for the flame, but one flame is one who remembers far too much, and wishes for the memories to fade, so he can love what he once did, the other trying to remember, only the memories are fading. She remembers far too little of what she once loved.
The frost wishes for his family, but who the family of his truly is, unclear.
Or, Kaeya wants to be with his family, but doesn’t know who his family really is, but his brother and sister also want to find him, whoever he really is.
my body when it is with your body • wangxian • e • 8000 words
lan wangji, wei wuxian, an afternoon in the cloud recesses and a mirror. • mirror sex! fishing! some foot stuff! both humiliation kink AND praise kink! scent kink! too much thought put into ancient lube! it’s filthy, have fun.
//
The mirror is not for vanity. To present oneself neatly is a necessity, and although it would be proper to allow others to help with the business of dressing, of arranging one’s hair, Lan Wangji has always felt a deep distaste at the idea. He has felt a deep distaste at the idea of being touched in that way—practical and perfunctory. It is what people expect him, often, to prefer—but it scrapes some part of him bloody to tolerate it. Touch without warmth.
And so: the mirror.
It is not for vanity, although he is vain; recognises this in himself, and accepts it with equanimity. It is a practical object, and it is in keeping with the lines and proportions of the room—harmonious, because at the time he acquired it harmony had still seemed to be a thing to which he should aspire in all areas of his life—although he had never been good at it—had always been made of a variety of excesses. Even obedience can be an expression of excess feeling, if applied correctly. Stubbornness. A selective refusal to understand nuance. The performance of rigidity rendered him brittle, but did not make him smaller.
The mirror. The room is warmer in reverse, bronzed. Lan Wangji’s robes become a different kind of luminous. Wei Ying, pressed back against them, is soft-edged. The afternoon light wavers gently across that impression of him—his bare skin—his parted lips.
Wangxian, sometime well after the end of the show, for the kiss prompt, Under the stars, Celebration
I read this and decided you want something sappy and disgusting. I hope I was correct!  Happy belated birthday <3
***********
The moon is a perfect semi-circle in the night sky when Wei Wuxian looks up from the peak of Dafan Mountain. Lan Wangji stands next to him, his face also turned upwards, his gaze caressing the moon like a long-lost friend. He is luminous as the moon itself, the soft, silver threads of light making him look ethereal. It’s been almost ten years since their wedding, and Lan Wangji still takes Wei Wuxian’s breath away. Sometimes, he still cannot believe he is allowed to simply reach out and touch him, knowing that he will never be denied, that Lan Wangji will turn towards him like a flower facing the sun. Sometimes, he is fiercely jealous even of the moonlight caressing his husband’s face, even of the wind that plays carelessly in his husband’s silken hair.
“Lan Zhan,” Wei Wuxian says softly, afraid to disturb the perfect stillness of the moment. As if compelled, Lan Wangji’s hand immediately reaches for his own, the drag of his thumb against Wei Wuxian’s skin makes his blood heave and his veins swell, as if every part of him needs to be closer to the one who holds his heart. “Are you going to tell me why we’ve come here?”
Lan Wangji’s face turns to him, like the half-moon now by itself, the shadow side in contrast to the silver light that makes one of his eyes glow with an almost preternatural light. His eyes are like jewels, pure ember in the sunlight, hematite in the moonlight. Wei Wuxian wants to kiss his eyelids. Even now, the tenderness in his heart is so overwhelming, that at times he wishes he could set it aside, examine it as if it were its own sentient thing, to see if he could even recognize himself without it. He cannot imagine his heart without his husband encased permanently inside its tender folds.
Lan Wangji’s lips fold themselves into a gentle smile. “Wei Ying has always had a terrible memory,” he teases. He pulls Wei Wuxian down to the grass and sits in the lotus position, their fingers still entwined, neither one of them wanting to break contact. “I got you something,” Lan Wangji says and Wei Wuxian’s eyes light up. He’s long learned to accept that he married the biggest romantic in the world. For every word that Lan Wangji utters, there are a thousand words that he thinks, a kaleidoscope of feelings just beneath the surface of that fine jade skin. Lan Wangji has the soul of a poet, but Wei Wuxian is the only one in the world who is the keeper of this secret.
Turnabout Is Fair Play - Part 1
OK guys so hear me out. I saw this AU mention on @sadcindrrella‘s blog, and I liked it, but thought, WHAT IF IT WAS LAN WANGJI AND WEI WUXIAN THEMSELVES. So I channelled our good author friend Airplane-bro (see Scum Villain), invented a poison plot device that would do the trick, and went to town (the cure IS NOT papapa - see Scum Villain again).
Basically please enjoy 5.8k ish of dumb crack featuring Lan Wangji being a little shit.
Part 2 is now up
Part 3 and Part 4 are up
Lan Xichen rubbed wearily at the spot between his eyes, smothering his sigh of disbelief.
His companion had no compunction in reacting in his usual, more outspoken manner.
“What the fuck-” Jiang Wanyin, Sect Leader of the Yunmeng Jiang sect exclaimed, and the loud noise made both of their immediate problems stir.
The two child-like figures curled up sleeping in piles of robes, black and white, that looked to have been discarded, but in truth, just didn’t fit the bodies wearing them anymore.
“Is that really-?” Jiang Wanyin demanded as a pair of light amber eyes and a pair of darker grey eyes blinked sleepily at them both.
“I’m afraid so, Sect Leader Jiang” Lan Xichen moved forward and sank to his haunches beside Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian who had, inexplicably, been turned into four year old children!
“Xichen-ge” a soft sweet voice whined, surprisingly Wei Wuxian who held his arms up indicating he wanted to be picked up.
Lan Xichen blinked, and smiled gently down at the young boy, cheeks adorably flushed from sleep. Unable to resist, Lan Xichen scooped the child up, robes and all, making sure he was bundled up warmly in the overlarge folds, and set the child against his shoulder. Wei Wuxian laid his head on said shoulder, caught a handful of hair in his sturdy little hand, and closed his eyes again.
Lan Xichen glanced across at Jiang Wanyin, who wore a complicated expression while he looked at the small boy in Lan Xichen’s arms.
“Perhaps the first thing to do would be to take them to safety” Lan Xichen suggested. “Then we can worry about the how and what to do about it”
“Fine” Jiang Wanyin went to pick up Lan Xichen’s (now much) younger brother, but he exclaimed and snatched his hand back, “You little shit” the tone was disbelieving. Lan Wangji had sunk his teeth into Jiang Wanyin’s arm.
And then Lan Wangji hissed at him.
Jiang Wanyin threw an utterly surprised look at Lan Xichen, who was equally as confused.
“Wangji!” Lan Xichen admonished sternly, which seemed to settle the stubborn set of Lan Wangji’s deceivingly soft young face a little.
It was that moment that a horde of snake-demons burst into the clearing.
Jiang Wanyin drew Sandu, scooped up Lan Wangji with his free arm and began to fight off the demons so they could retreat, all as Lan Xichen swapped Wei Wuxian to his left arm so he could draw Shuoyue and do the same.
The safety of the helpless youngsters was their first responsibility.
***
Later, having joined their respective disciples at the nearest town’s inn, they could begin to deal with the odd situation they’d found themselves in.
Lan Xichen had asked a shocked Lan Sizhui and Lan Jingyi to buy clothes that would fit their charges while the Jiang Sect’s physician examined Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian.
They currently sat on the edge of a bed in Jiang Wanyin’s rooms, holding each other’s hand and Lan Wangji whispered something behind his free hand into Wei Wuxian’s ear while the adults talked.
The physician could do nothing but report that there didn’t appear to be a problem, except the visually obvious one. Both were healthy and whole and hadn’t suffered a qi deviation as far as he could tell.
“That probably leaves some kind of poison or plant cause” Jiang Wanyin said, considering, “Is there anything with known or similar properties?”
“I have heard some tribes of the snake-demons have a poison that can cause unusual effects on the body, especially when it comes into contact other demonic techniques” the physician mused, and Jiang Wanyin looked over at Lan Xichen.
“Snake-demons” Jiang Wanyin’s fist clenched as he played with the ring that held Zidian in agitation. “We were attacked by snake-demons shortly after finding them” he informed the physician.
“Then we seem to have a reason, if not a solution” Lan Xichen mused. “Wei Wuxian must have used Chenqing when they encountered a pack of those demons prior to our arrival, defeating them but causing them to change.”
Wanyin turned to the physician again, “What can we do to reverse the effect?”
“I would think the same as any poison, flush it from the bloodstream. Qi circulation and taking some certain herbs should do it, if slowly. I might be able to develop something to speed the process up if we managed to get some of the venom glands to test”
“I’ll assign disciples to clear some nests” Jiang Wanyin said, arms folding over his chest as his agitation faded.
Lan Xichen bent and scooped up a Lan Wangji who had tried to sneak past him to exit the room and held his struggling form securely against his chest, “Thank you Sect Leader Jiang”
***
The rest of the afternoon and evening was taken up in beginning the process of cleansing the poison from the youngsters, having the evening meal and bath and bed routines.
It wasn’t long after he’d set his head down in his own bed that Jiang Cheng heard the commotion that started from the rooms next to their own.
He glanced over at the second bed to check on the young Wei Wuxian, who was just beginning to stir from sleep.
There was the muffled sound of a door slamming open, and a strident, small voice began to yell “I want Wei Ying. I want Wei Ying”
It came closer and closer down the corridor, and Jiang Cheng could hear the rest of the inn begin to stir at the unholy racket.
That Lan brat. He really had become a little monster.
He heard Lan Xichen admonishing his brother outside Jiang Cheng’s door, heard the small hands begin to bang on the wood before the sound was cut off. But that only began the shouts for “Wei Ying” again.
He jumped out of bed and hurried across to pull open the doors, the shouts of “Quiet down” and “Shut that child up” ringing out from the other guests of the inn.
Lan Xichen held a squirming Lan Wangji in his arms, both of them only dressed in their inner sleeping robes, the latter’s face flushed from his tantrum.
“Wangji!” Lan Xichen exclaimed with the closest tone to exasperation Jiang Cheng had ever heard the Lan Sect Leader use. “Sect Leader Jiang, my apologies, but perhaps we could let them stay together to ensure everyone else in the inn may sleep?” he held his brother out like a sacrificial offering to Jiang Cheng, who eyed the child like we was being handed a viper.
Why did Jiang Cheng feel like he himself was the sacrifice, offered up for the greater good?
He snorted his annoyance, because if he was to be the sacrificial lamb then everyone else had to know what an inconvenience this was, that was just Jiang Cheng’s personality, much as he didn’t like it about himself.
But he still reached out and grabbed Lan Wangji by the armpits, having learned his lesson earlier not bringing him within reach of his own body; the little brat could kick and bite like an animal.
Lan Xichen smiled his thanks while readjusting the collar of his inner robe, which had become slightly skewed during his tussle with the mini whirlwind that was Lan Wangji. Jiang Cheng tried so hard not to notice that flash of elegant collarbone, of luminous, unblemished skin. Lan Xichen was indeed the first jade of Lan.
He dragged his eyes back to the little monster swinging free in his grasp. Lan Wangji bared his teeth at him, and Jiang Cheng felt the flare of his temper, having to fight the urge to just toss him back at Lan Xichen, close the door in their faces, and leave them to it.
Perhaps sensing this, Lan Xichen smiled again, murmured a “Goodnight, Sect Leader Jiang” which sounded more like a “Good luck, Sect Leader Jiang” tugged the door closed from the outside and retreated.
“I want Wei Ying” there was such bad temper in the voice of the child he held Jiang Cheng rolled his eyes in annoyance.
“Yes, we all heard you, repeatedly. Causing such a fuss. So much for the elegant, refined Hanguang-jun” he scoffed, then realised that verbally bullying a small child, even one who hadn’t been a small child yesterday, was perhaps too mean even for him.
He let out a heavy sigh and carried the youngest jade of Lan over to the second bed in the room and plonked him down.
Wei Wuxian moved over and made room for him, and Lan Wangji reached out to grab his hand immediately.
Wei Wuxian patted the other’s hair soothingly with his free hand, “Lan Zhan, you’re so noisy” he told his friend, who had the effrontery to look abashed only when told off by this mini Yiling Patriarch, the wild, untamed demonic cultivator of legend now packaged into a small, sweet, obedient little boy.
The world was upside down. Jiang Cheng threw his arms up in despair.
“Go to sleep. Both of you. If I hear one more sound out of either of you before dawn tomorrow I’ll break your legs” he didn’t examine what a bad person threatening two four year olds with broken legs made him seem; in reality he meant the threat as little as he did when using it on Jin Ling.
He returned to his own bed but not before noting both of them lay down and burrow into the blankets, back to back and finally blessedly quiet in the case of Lan Wangji.
