I think there's an interesting parallel to make between "OG Cassandra", aka the character as she was first imagined by Grant Morrison, and the MCU version.

When Cassandra appears for the first time in the comics, it is strongly implied she has been alive in her body for merely a few days. As Jean Grey notes, she's acting out on pure emotional energy and only has the appearance of an adult woman. And a whole part of her character arc that got ignored by every writer after Morrison is that after being defeated by Emma Frost, she is given a new artificial body with very little powers and raised back from infancy. And she ends up doing great, replacing Charles Xavier 150 years in the future and dying a hero alongside the last X-Men.

What really striked me with MCU Cassandra is her immaturity. She's happy in the Void because she can do whatever she wants whenever she wants. She never wondered what's beyond her little bubble of reality, or tried to give herself a greater purpose than existing and having fun. Her anger towards Charles is also ridiculously misplaced and childish.

And ultimately, her plan to destroy everything but the Void reminded me of this panel :

It sums up MCU Cassandra's motivations perfectly. She never grew up and she's completely oblivious of the reality beyond her small corner of the Void, going as far as wanting to destroy it just because one man threatened her sense of control. Even worse, she depends on these realities for her own survival. Who's going to provide her with food and weapons and poeple to sacrifice to Alioth when there's nothing left ? These questions don't even cross her mind because she lives in the instant.

Anyway, I absolutely loved Cassandra in the movie and wish she had a bit more scenes and development, but I understand it's not her movie and that's fine for me. This version got everything that made me fall in love with her an the comics and I can't wait to rewatch all her scenes 💚.

Law question: according to the gatobob archive, it is canon ren commits tax evasion. This being said, if he were to be rescued, would he immediately be sentenced to punishment for this crime or would they let it slide considering he was held hostage at the time.

ohhhh i love this question so much! disclaimer: i'm a law student from argentina and i feel a bit lazy to investigate canada's criminal legislation atm (sorry!!!!! i don't think it differs THAT much tho) so my answer will be based on how i'd handle this case applying my country's law

i'm like 90% sure ren commits tax evasion after strade's death, i don't think strade would trust him handling his finances. that being said, supposing that i'm wrong, i think one could argue that this situation falls under defense of necessity, and that ren committing tax evasion was a silent call for help (he NEEDED to commit a lesser crime to draw attention from the authorities to strade and prevent a worse one from being committed/stop it's continuity) in that case, according to zaffaroni's theory of crime, there wouldn't even be a crime to begin with, and he'd win the trial :)

if you managed to prove that strade threatened him into committing tax evasion (which i really don't think it's the case) ren would also win that trial. it'd make strade an indirect perpetrator and it'd rid ren of any responsibility.

things get a bit more complicated if i'm right and ren commits tax evasion after strade dies. maybe one could argue about him not being mentally stable after the tortures abd captivity and blah blah to try to rid him of responsibility, but i don't think that'd fly in court, unless you get a very sympathetic judge/jury and a very good psych evaluation. maybe one could say that he was left in such an unstable mental state after everything that happened with strade that he wasn't able to live life normally again, couldn't get a job, and so all the money that he had to survive was what strade left behind, so he couldn't afford to be an honest citizen and do things legally. he'd be questioned about why he didn't immediately go to the authorities to report what happened with strade.

the short answer is that everything depends on how well you prove certain things, how much money strade left behind and on how strong of a case you manage to make. maybe an excellent lawyer could build a case around how you can't expect to make a victim handle his (dead) abuser's finances responsibly. or maybe you get a very strict judge that interprets everything literally and he only focuses on the fact that ren die commit tax evasion instead of taking everything else into account.

Hot take that I don't even think is that much of a hot take: the rise in audience members singing along at musicals is evidence that we need more mainstream participatory theatre. There's a massive focus on immersion at the moment and yes that's great but sometimes what people need isn't immersion but participation. We lack community and participatory art is a great way of building and facilitating it. That doesn't mean I want to remove conventional theatrical formats (and besides, theatre in itself is a communal act) but introducing more opportunities to be involved, even if it becomes glorified karaoke, could create low commitment participation in the arts and a communal experience

Tbh Penacony so far has been 10x better than the Xianzhou, and I like how even the 4* characters have some RIDICULOUS LORE GOING ON??? (Looks at the post-credits scene, I legit gasped)

I wish the final boss was a bit easier, but I ended up doing it pretty well in that last run with Gallagher (80), Fire Trailblazer (80), March 7 (60, using the stuff I have prepared for Aventurine in 3 weeks), and Jingliu (80)

The story though? Badass! I really like how they did it this time. I can't wait to see what happens in May when the next update comes out like??? HELLO??? THAT CLIFFHANGER??? And the LEAKS???????

since 2018, other vocal synth programs have been gaining popularity, with the most notable one being synthesizer V (synthV). 2023 also brought us vocaloid 6.

an important distinction to make is not "vocal synths don't use artificial intelligence," because both v6 and synthV use song samples from the voicebanks' voice providers instead of syllable samples, while earlier versions only use syllable samples. the distinction to be made is solely the discussion surrounding consent.

(heck, v6 and sv have features where you can upload a preexisting song and the voicebank will tune itself to fit the stress and frequency of the original vocals in the voicebank's voice. but in order to make an original song with a voicebank, note and lyric input is always manual.)

commercial voicebanks that use AI to construct syllables are always made with consent of the provider!

When I was in my teens, I used to make an entire magic system with 360+ unique spells, ordered in magic schools and categories, and it boggles my mind that I basically reinvented DnD mechanics, even down to metamagic.

I wanted to make a wiki about it but I don't have time for it.

The point was to try to encompass every "superpower" I could think of into a magic system.

I even got lore related to it all, I'm pretty sure I'm gonna simply reuse it all for OC worldbuilding. Ngl the fun part was naming all the spells, symbols and coming up with the logic of it all.
