A/N: My first ever Demon Slayer piece, I hope this is good for my first one, Anon! This was also very fun, I can actually see these three falling for someone that was kinda opposite from them!

🍃 Sanemi is an aggressive person by nature, and you were a far kinder person, killing demons gently while he did so painfully and without a care in the world

🍃 When he first met you, Sanemi was definitely put off by how kind you were with the Kamaboko Squad, your job was to kill demons, and you were braiding the hair of a demon

🍃 You and him were on rocky ground at first, due to your clashing personalities, but, once you guys got used to one another, it was funny for the others to watch as you would pat his head when he finished training

🍃 Whenever you guys are on missions with each other, he devotes himself to protecting you

🍃 From sending blasts of wind to send the demon flying away from you as you protected a small group of children who lost their parents from said demon, to even kicking a demon away, he was ready to sacrifice himself to keep you safe

🍃 Sanemi isn't fond of public displays of affection, he has a reputation of being aggressive and hard to approach, and he'd prefer to keep that reputation strong until retirement

🍃 He loves watching you tease Obanai, just watching you be yourself while pissing someone off makes his day for some weird reason

🍃 He and Genya aren't very close, and watching as you try getting them closer despite his protests makes him chuckle on the inside

🍃 And whenever he hears about your progress in training his younger brother with your old sensei, Gyomei Himekima, who taught you Stone Breathing, he pretends to not be listening, despite others knowing he is

📝 Emotion, atmosphere and environment: A writing exercise for show-don't-tell

Before we go any further, I want to make it clear that I'm not aggressively against telling. Sometimes telling works for a whole bunch of valid reasons. If you know me at all, you'll be aware of where I stand on the issue of narrow, prescriptive writing rules (if you don't know me, hi, I despise narrow, prescriptive writing rules)

But "How do I show instead of telling?" is still a thing a lot of newer writers have difficulty with and that's what I'd like to dig into. So here's a writing exercise you could try to help build depth and atmosphere around the emotion your character is feeling...

🧠 First of all, pick an emotional experience.

For illustrative purposes, I'm going with LOSS. Then express that emotional experience in ways that can be perceived physically. The following are just suggestions, not an exhaustive list.

🎨 How could the emotion be expressed as a colour?

Grey, maybe. Slate grey. Or a muted petrol blue, perhaps.

🔊 How could the emotion be expressed as a sound?

Deep silence interrupted only by the sound of a ticking clock.

👋 How could the emotion be expressed as a physical action?

Your hand reaching to grasp for comfort out of habit and hope, fingers curling around something remembered, then dropping back to the coldness of the other side of the bed, empty.

🌄 How could the emotion be expressed as a weather condition or natural phenomenon?

The storm passed an hour ago, leaving only an occasional flurry of sleet that melts on contact with the window, sliding down the glass like tears. Outside, a tree that shed its leaves in autumn bows in tired silhouette against the halo of a single streetlight.

🏡 How could the emotion be expressed as a room?

Your nightstand holds the bottle of water you filled before trudging upstairs at midnight, your phone still plugged in even though the battery was full three hours ago, and the glasses you'll put on again as soon as you wake up after sleep eventually manages to swallow you. The nightstand on the other side of the bed holds a small tear-off calendar showing November eighteenth even though it's now January second and a book lying open and face-down with the spine sinking into itself. In the corner of the room, there's a chair with clothes carelessly draped over it a month and a half ago that you still can't bring yourself to put in the laundry. It's four o'clock in the morning and you'd give anything to hear breathing that wasn't your own.

You could try it for different emotions and different situations, in isolation and then connected to something you're in the process of writing.

How could anger, for example, be expressed differently in an office environment compared to a wilderness landscape? How could joy be shown in summer versus winter? How could fear be embodied in high fantasy compared to cyberpunk?

If relating environments to emotions doesn't click for you straight away, could you focus on single-sense experiences for a while? What colour is regret? What does anticipation taste like?

If you have synesthesia (hello, fellow synesthetes!) this could be a wild ride, but hopefully it'll also be fun and useful for anyone having difficulty connecting to the idea of show-don't-tell.

It has been a long while since he last touched you. A restless wind, a hooting owl, a crackling fire. You turn to face Astarion, where you begin to fear that perhaps these thoughts are merely a construct of his nature. He is a vampire, after all, and since the moment you allowed him to take from your veins, he has lived in you, a memory that still simmers your blood even on the coldest nights. As you stare up at him now, like the cracked earth begs the heavens for rain, you long to know–is there more, or have the effects of him simply yet to wear off?

+ Baby foxes are curious and playful by nature. They explore their surroundings, investigate new smells, and engage in social interactions with their peers, and Hyein ALWAYS observes everything with big curious eyes

Fox hybrid! Hyein is very vocal, but really A VERY vocal queen 🔊 She is capable of making a lot of different sounds, like when she plays where she makes a sound called 'gekkering' which is a type of laughing noise, but she also barks, screams, howls, squeals and whines, so probably between her and Dani, you will not know what silence means. . .

Fox hybrid! Hyein has a VERY good sense of smell, she uses it to locate you or the members when she is separated from you

When Hyein wakes up, clumsily opening her sleepy little eyes, she unconsciously reaches out with her hand, touching the empty space next to her. There doesn't seem to be anyone in the house. The night before, you and the rest of Hybrid! New Jeans were there for a sleepover, with lots of cuddles, laughter and silly jokes, movies and snacks. She vaguely remembers falling asleep curled up with all of you, like a cuddle pack.

But now the bedroom is empty, probably because you have gone shopping for groceries, or something else that is part of your daily routine, leaving the space unoccupied, although retaining its warmth and aroma for a while.

And to Hyein's advantage, her fine fox sense of smell helps her clearly distinguish the distinctive smell of both the members and you, which gives her a lot of comfort especially on the days when she misses all of you. So, in search of some solace in her still sleepy state, she clumsily brings the pillow closer to her face, sniffing it and relaxing as she feels the intermingled fragrance of her cuddle pack.

"Family," Hyein thinks as she presses her face into the pillow.

After sniffing her pillow for a while, feeling calm enough to get out of bed, Hyein leaves her room, walking without making a sound, since she has the habit of walking with her little bare feet, while wearing and dragging the oversize hoodie she borrowed from Hanni.

The house is vaguely mixed with the scents of Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin and you, as if they were suspended in the air, and the fox hybrid takes in all the scents together, as she inhales deeply. She doesn't see anyone, but suddenly she smells intensely of someone, and she thinks she knows who.

You.

So with her usual stealth, befitting her fox-hybrid nature, Hyein walks as the scent guides her, wagging her bushy orange/red tail behind her, until she reaches your bedroom. She pokes her head out, her ears pricked and twitching.

"I found you!" Hyein exclaims smiling. You are organizing your things a little, part of your own routine—something outside of the group routine, like buying groceries—when Hyein appears and the task of organizing and ordering your belongings takes a backseat.

“How come you always find me?” You ask, chuckling. Even if you know the answer, it's always fun to hear her say it.

"Because your smell. And of course, with the help of the best sense of smell in this house, which happens to be mine." Hyein grins widely. Adorably cunning, like the fox she is. 🦊

Fox hybrid! Hyein plays with Danielle's toys! Since dogs and foxes are very similar, they share and play with the same types of toys <3 only that they differ in that Danielle likes squeaky and chewy toys that she can play with while resting, and Hyein likes toys for mental and psysical stimulation like resistant balls and agility tunnels

Fox hybrid! Hyein has a habit of gently nibbling and chewing Hanni's floppy ears <3 if Hanni has her head resting on one side of your lap, Hyein is automatically on the other, to play and gently sink her teeth into those floppy ears 🐇 this kiddo loves to chew and nibble, don't blame her!

KIM KITSURAGI - "What is this place?" The lieutenant stares at the dusty training equipment.

"It's an adventure!"

"It's the netherworld. Beyond the veil."

"Looks like a gym to me."

"No idea, Kim... but my head hurts... my head hurts *bad*."

"I think this may be the Artemitep's Boxing Club For Young Athletes."

KIM KITSURAGI - "We don't *have to* explore an abandoned gym, you know. Besides, no one's been here in ages..."

"I doubt the electricity still works... Good thing we have a flashlight on us. Don't forget to take it out of your bag before we move on."

PERCEPTION (SIGHT) [Medium: Success] - Some specks of dust shimmer in a faint beam of daylight falling from the window. Other than that, the room is dark.

INLAND EMPIRE [Trivial: Success] - An eerie feeling rises in your chest...

"What if there's a *reason* why no one's been here for ages..."

"Let's just keep going, I'm sure it's just a regular abandoned house, nothing mysterious here."

KIM KITSURAGI - "Yes, because it's *closed*..."

"No need to look for *supra-natural* explanations where a banal one will do. Now, let's move on, shall we?"

PHYSICAL INSTRUMENT [Trivial: Success] - It's 60 kg. Your triceps hum at the sight of these weights. Show the world what kind of beast it's dealing with. Lift them.

KIM KITSURAGI - "Yes," the lieutenant says. "You might even call it a *feature* of the universe, that you need to *hold* tools to *use* them."

"That makes so much sense."

KIM KITSURAGI - "I'm sorry the fundamental laws of the universe don't seem to agree with you, detective, but the fact remains that it's too dark to see in here without the flashlight..."

"So come on. We've got work to do."

PROJECT DREAD BOARD - One of the welkins -- towering among the rest -- appears to be different, however.

The huldur, the dweorg, the humans, and even headless men... all of them. Purged. Imagine a world filled *only* with welkin! Green welkin, dread welkin... and the high welkin to rule them all.

KIM KITSURAGI - The lieutenant can't help but comment: "An inordinate amount of time has gone into drawing these little welkin creatures..."

"Why would anyone spend so much time on this?"

"Who *are* these creatures? Who drew them? Are they *real*? I have so many questions..."

(Whisper) "One of them is a welkin supremacist."

"Well. This has been educational -- let's move on from the welkins."

KIM KITSURAGI - "Some people really *like* building a world, I think. Even if it's just for a game."

PROJECT DREAD BOARD - The photo collage depicts barren, icy landscapes wrapped in perpetual night. You see permafrost and glacial landforms, dead trees groaning under the snow.

Entire oceans have been frozen from shore to shore. There are pictures of settlements on dried up riverbeds, abandoned in a storm. Animal corpses in the dark, carcasses and bones.

ENCYCLOPEDIA [Easy: Success] - You see primitive oil rigs built into glaciers -- by *boreal dweorg* -- yurts under the snow, great mammoth-like beasts of burden...

ELECTROCHEMISTRY [Easy: Success] - Albeit dark and cold, this vision also feels cosy in its own way. Like eggnog, or morphine! A much needed respite from our own world.

PROJECT DREAD BOARD - A pinned postcard reads: 'The heat death scenario -- a desperate fight for geothermal energy engulfs the world as Wirrâl becomes untethered from its sun, drifting through the Universe.'

PROJECT DREAD BOARD - This is a monthly calendar from the year '50. Cryptic words like 'sprint', 'daily minime', and 'GPI' span the marker-drawn grid -- the grand scheme of production and money.

PERCEPTION (SIGHT) [Medium: Success] - It looks a bit like an academic calendar. Only much more *brutal*.

EMPATHY [Medium: Success] - Everyone is constantly teetering on the edge of the abyss. An abyss of *production*. These squares look orderly but beneath them is chaos, worry, pain...

ENCYCLOPEDIA [Medium: Success] - 'Minime' stands for a 'mini-meeting'. It's part of a bigger framework for managing work called R.U.N.. Station 41 tried to implement it a few years ago, but failed.

PROJECT DREAD BOARD - As time goes on, the numbers in the boxes grow rarer and rarer. The board becomes an empty snowfield in the final days... Only failure and regret dwell in this region.

KIM KITSURAGI - "Looks like they didn't make it." The lieutenant looks at the frigid ice field of nothingness.

This must be the anomaly Soona mentioned in the church log.

MAINFRAME - On the nature of the data loss, there's ominously little information in the production log. It comes at the very end, where things get fuzzy and dark, where tables and numbers seem to vanish into an eerie nothingness, before their Igaunijan investor pulled the plug...

What is clear is that one day an unidentified numeric anomaly occurred on the East-Insulindian Lintel front, just as the 'Wirrâl Untethered' project was being compiled that day.

And the anomaly caused all the data to get lost in the air?

I didn't understand a word of that.

MAINFRAME - When the project was returned, it was completely blank.

The team spent weeks on the phone with Lintel, the service provider, but despite their diagnostics they could never produce a satisfactory explanation or pay for the loss.

What! They lost the whole game and wouldn't even pay for it?

Wasn't there a copy of the game, a *backup*?

MAINFRAME - Always read the terms of service.

LOGIC [Medium: Success] - And let's face it, they didn't have any money left for a legal action.

It was the lead programmer's responsibility to oversee weekly maintenance of the off-site copy and, well, keep it off-site. An explanatory note from the lead programmer has been attached.

What does it say?

MAINFRAME - S. Luukanen-Kilde, the lead programmer of Fortress Accident: "The off-site copy was on-site because there was no *off-site* anymore, not for me, not after eight months of crunch."

"I didn't have a home anymore, so I started keeping it in the basement, in the ice bear refrigerator (near where I went to sleep). It was perfectly safe there, the temperature conditions were *optimal*."

It's not very convincing, is it?

"Still haven't gotten an answer from Lintel about what happened. All I could get were the physical coordinates of the error on the East-Insulindian front on that day. Since the computation happened on-air, I reckoned it had to coincide with an actually existing location..."

"I have compared the coordinates to a map of Revachol West. Turns out it's only 800 metres from here. The address is Saint-Brune 1147. I am going there to look this thing in the eye..."

Whenever the girls are cuddling, they sometimes start complmenting every little thing about their partners, from their face to their earlobes to their fingers. So on and so forth. “All of me loves all of you!”

Ellie is a total sucker for bunnies. Even seeing a picture of a cartoonish bunny rabbit is liable to send her into a gushing frenzy. Gabby is well aware of this and regularly gives her bunny-themed gifts.

Being a skilled artist with an excellent eye for fashion, Ellie often finds herself drawing pictures of her girlfriend wearing her fashion designs.

🎵Hearing🔊

Ellie loves when Gabby goes into one of her silly rambles about what she loves, finding it adorable how excited she gets over everything, and loving the sound of her voice.

Gabby is a little self-conscious about her singing voice, but Ellie loves hearing her sing, no matter how loud she gets.

The girls have gotten into each other’s favorite music genres a lot, with Gabby generally liking more low-key and emotional female vocal music like your Billie Eilish and your Girl in Red (as well as Enej, which Word of God has confirmed her to love), while Ellie is very into pop punk. They’ve sung one another’s favorite songs together a lot. (Ellie’s favorite song is Only One by Yellowcard while Gabby’s favorite song is Everything I Wanted by Billie Eilish.)

💐Smell🌹

Ellie’s pretty vulnerable to smells in general. Having worked at an awful bartending job, she can’t handle the smell of alcoholic beverages without feeling sick due to the painful memories. Nonetheless, this makes Ellie love the scent of flowers even more. Flowers make her feel safe. Meanwhile, Gabby just loves flowers because she’s a nature-loving sweetheart and admires all its charms, smell very much included.

Gabby is something of a rose enthusiast. She knows which ones are the easiest or hardest to grow, and which ones have the smells she and Ellie like best. She can sometimes be seen online talking with fellow rose enthusiasts. She’s also surprised Ellie with many bouquets of her favorite roses!

The girls like stopping at perfume stores and sampling the perfumes they have on offer, and buying their favorites.

🍧Taste🧁

I’ve probably mentioned this before (apologies if I haven’t) but the girls dislike fast food outlets (especially given Gabby’s veganism and dislike of big fat corporations) and much prefer smaller businesses. Most of their dates are at tiny vegan cafes in towns and parks.

Gabby absolutely adores dark chocolate (girl same). The girls often grab any dark chocolate they find in corner stores!

The girls also love fruit sorbet, and regularly have dates in cozy ice cream and sorbet shops and sharing them.

🤝Touch👏

Ellie understands how touch-starved Gabby is and thus won’t hesitate to give her cuddles and kisses when she needs them. Regardless of whether they’re in public or in private, they cuddle and kiss a lot, and they feel safe in each other’s arms.

The girls adore warm fuzzy blankets. (you could’ve guessed by yesterday’s fic lol) They love cuddling beneath them, and whenever one of them is sick (usually Gabby because Ellie has a strong immune system), the other one will wrap them up in a freshly-washed fuzzy blanket to warm them up.

Gabby’s most tickle-sensitive spots are her tummy and neck while Ellie’s most tickle-sensitive spots are her sides and underarms. Both girls get jumpy if you even poke them there, but they’re always willing to let each other go crazy on those spots. Getting tickled by their lover brings them a lot of serotonin.

Spooky Pond Vibes

A thick fog settled in as the sun began to set so I was obviously like “oh! Lovely weather for a walk” and made my way to The Pond. I walked through the unlit trails of the misty wood, silent but for the crunch of loose rocks on cracked asphalt beneath my feet. A sudden cacophony of geese shattered the quiet so I quickened my pace to see what was going on at The Pond. I’m an iPad kid at heart so I whipped out my phone to film the scene but for some reason it captured the footage upside down. I could’ve flipped it but I liked the aesthetic and the fact that the video was naturally taken like that really added to the atmosphere. The cinnamon topography of it 🤌
