Brainy Smurf: (softly) This would be hard for me to say, but... Thank you for saving my smurf. And this would be easy for me to say... (angry) What were you thinking?! You just sealed our only way out and trapped us in the Wartmongers' dungeon FOREVER!!
Papa Smurf: (kindly) Okay, okay... Let's just acknowledge that I made a mistake and move on.
Alright, back to real facts now!
The original Earthworm Jim's release date has always been up in the air, simply looking it up will give you several answers of varying quality. Some say it was released in April 1994 (which is false, the cheat screen disproves this, as the final build of the game was made in August 1994), and some say it was released in June 1994 (same answer as before). The game was likely released around August 1994 - October 1994.
NB's tail is a a neck and headstock, while his head is the guitar's body. That in mind, cursed thought: there is a non-zero chance that Nordic is intended to be a sentient guitar in a mech suit like Earthworm Jim.
HELP OH MY GOD-
just psychic blast me at 9 in the morning why don't you?!?!?! 😂😂😂 this. oh god i hate to admit it but i think you're right on the money. this feels like the most plausible explanation for whatever the fuck Nordic Bunny has going on with his body!!! thinking about it:
his actual body appears to be one guitar, with the guitar 'body' as his head and the headstock as the tail. the guitar goes through the open hole in the neck of his chestplate, and i wonder if that glowing we see from within is either Nordic Bunny's magical/alien essence (which grants him sentience), or is a kind of power source which fuels his mech suit? 👀
holy fuck. my life is changed. this is 100% my accepted headcanon of how his body works!!! thank you, you little GENIUS 😂🤘🎸
So, I was doing that thing I do in which I look up vintage Ronin Warriors toys on eBay and despair at the thought of ever owning a complete 1995 Cye and Kento, and came across a listing for Lightning Rider Ryo.
For those who have never followed my chronicling of Playmates, Re:Play, and the US Ronin Warriors toyline, there's a long and interesting story there, the gist of which is: Re:Play was a subsidiary/ offshoot of Playmates Toys, who were responsible for the manufacture and distribution of the 1995 and 1999 runs of Ronin Warriors action figures (there is also a very long and interesting story behind those spanning three continents, but that's for another day). Re-Play's entire schtick was reproducing basically whatever Playmates happened to have lying around circa 2001, from Exo-Squad and Earthworm Jim to, you guessed it, Ronin Warriors.
The problem is that a lot of these figures usually suffered from completely inaccurate color schemes and kitbashed accessories, particularly in the case of RW. Case in point, "Rowen", who was really just Ryo with a combination of Sage of Halo and Ryo of Wildfire armor.

(I remember reading a fic about this guy way back when wherein he was Ryo's cousing playing impostor...)
And of course the Way-Off-Base recolors:
(I grabbed these off of my old twitter thread and I can't remember the image sources)
And of course, the aforementioned Lightning Rider Ryo, who was Ryo's head and Wildfire helmet with Cye's Torrent armor and weapons, and its brother "deluxe figure", Dark Rider Talpa, which was Talpa but in his second boss phase because he turned red. Also they both came with a horse, hence the "Rider" part.

The horse has, for the longest time, been the biggest piece of the puzzle for me, because where the hell did it come from. Nothing from Re-Play was original, after all.
Which brings me back to my previously alluded-to self-flagellation. I stumbled across a listing for LRR that, in a bit of a rarity, included the horse.
Fantastic, I thought as I clicked on the listing just to window-shop.
And then I found they were gracious enough to include a pic of the copyright stamp.

And friends, with that I am happy to say that the mystery that has plagued me for the last 20 years of my life is solved.
The horses included with Lightning Rider Ryo and Dark Rider Talpa was previously from none other than the 1997 Zorro line, which is a thing I'd completely forgotten existed if I ever knew that it did. I was preoccupied by Power Rangers and Beetleborgs at the time...

And that, friends, is your toy history lesson for the evening.
Also regarding Earthworm Jim, two questions. 1. Would you count the chopped off DK head from the PC port as a link. 2. Would Sumo Santa from Clayfighter count as Santa Claus?
So as for the DK head, I'm not aware if there's any official sources that weigh in on the matter, but it's of a kind with the secret codes that give Jim an afro or Groucho Marx glasses, which combined with the relative lack of animation leads to me to believe that it's mask-like in nature.
As for Sumo Santa, well... ClayFighter lore being what it is, I think my answer is "maybe not, but it would probably make sense"?
Okay.
A Brief Primer on Santa Claus and ClayFighter (As Told by Someone Whose Knowledge of ClayFighter is Suspect at Best)
Bad Mr. Frosty, who is Mr. Frosty but Bad, forces a “certain overweight toymaker and his reindeer” out a job at the north pole in the first ClayFighter.
Then in ClayFighter 2, the manual mentions that he’s done time for assaulting a Mr... S. Clauz?
And then his ending mentions working for an... S. Clause.
Then Sumo Santa shows up in ClayFighter 63⅓, and all roundabout mentions of Santa are replaced with explicit ones to Sumo Santa. As to who Sumo Santa is,
hm.
Complicating things is that Sculptor’s Cut has a seemingly different, more faithful(?) characterization of Sumo Santa.
So in total, Sumo Santa is maybe Santa? Probably, even? I honestly couldn’t tell you.
On the bright side, I did find another route that could be marginally less ambiguous in a different way, so...
...thanks for the correction?
(It’s almost certainly cleaner than any route out through D-Xhird, at any rate.)
Lost Voice sample heard in Earthworm Jim 2. I'm trying to figure out a source, the speculated line is "Das Schickal klopft an die Tuer" translating as "Fate is knocking on the door." Tommy Tallarico claims it's from a friend of his, but he is a serial liar.
Due to this being a one-man run show, I have decided to open up fan submissions for any lost media or video game-related fun facts and trivia, be it canon to the source material, rip-offs, bootlegs, translations, dubs, or even lesser known fanworks/creepypastas!
Current Fandom/Game List:
Earthworm Jim
Edna & Harvey
Sonic The Hedgehog
This blog will serve as a hub for all things lost media and less covered by the fandom, sort of a homage to @earthwormjimnocontext, but it's not just Earthworm Jim! If you like Sonic or Edna & Harvey or any other game like that feel free to submit some!
Rules & DNI:
Submissions cannot be porn, sorry, this ain't a NSFW blog. Adverts made by game producers that HAVE innuendos don't count but nudity/straight-upan porn will not be allowed and will be deleted/blocked.
No MAP/Zoo shit. You will be blocked and reported :)

Be nice, wish I didn't have to say this but please be nice to other users and the main mod.
If you're submitting a rare/lost media fanwork, DO NOT steal it/claim it as your own. Cite the original creator if you are not the creator.
No shipping/proshipping/antishipping discourse.
This blog does not condone the actions any troublesome creators to source material or fanworks, merely just for archiving purposes.
I've been searching the internet thoroughly for information on the Jim 3D beta, and I found this, a gameplay gif of a video from the beta that itself is lost media, as the video where this gif is sourced from has been deleted.
Me and the other editors of the mega-doc have found a plethora of the beta images as well, even more than what I had archived. The search is going smoothly and giving me some interesting information. I have discovered a prototype cartridge that supposedly is identical to the final game, not including much if any of the beta content, but it's still a start.
