This is from the Podcast Creator Ask Game from the other day, sorry I took so long to answer it Ria ily

"What is an element of your story that surprised you?"

I think the actors are what surprised me most. Like I have the way this story is supposed to sound in my brain. I write in the characters' voices and I read them over and over and when I have actors cast, imagine the actors saying those lines in their character voices. And every time, every single time, the actors blow my expectations away. They're so excellent. I love them your honor. Half the fun in making this show is handing off the script to very talented people and watching them play.

Ria what can I tell you about Inn Between that you don't already know??

Let's seeeeeeeee when I first conceived of Zara and Rosie, their personalities were swapped. I had in mind this cynical misanthropic thief (ironically named Rosie, probably short for something in Drow) who has to gradually be brought into the fold of love and acceptance, and this perky little witch sorcerer whose heart was so big and refused to let the stereotypes people treated her with bring her down. And I couldn't finish the first episode, like I literally couldn't finish it.

At that point we were in production for season two, so everyone's lines were turned in, including Lucy's lines for Rosie at the very end of season two. She gave me three takes and for the first two she'd followed my direction of world weariness, caution, and readiness to throw down. and for the third one, she'd giggled and said "here we go!" like she was excited. and thank God she did, honestly, because that ended up being the key.

So I swapped Rosie and Zara's personalities, and suddenly the world made sense. Rosie chose her name (and the fact that she was already being played by a trans actress made her canonical transness an easy choice) because she loves all things bright and beautiful. And why should Zara be perky and bright? She's had a bad hand dealt and no one likes sorcerers anyway. Make her the cynical misanthrope.

And suddenly I could finish the first episode! And the rest of the season made more sense.

First Look At The World || Monologue

Cold. That was the first thing she felt. Freezing, like a blanket of snow to the skin. Silence. Deafening silence, except for a rhythmic beat in her ears. She could see, staring through a window and up at a blank, white space. Someone had called her. Someone had summoned her, but they were gone. They had left her without instructions, without guidance. Without anything.

What was this gripping sensation in the pit of her stomach? Why was she shaking all over? She was gasping - was this breathing? Then, why did it hurt? Why did everything hurt? Why were there so many thoughts racing through her head:

Not good enough. Useless. Failure. Moody. Gloomy. Witch. Freak. Loser. Weirdo. Creep. Witch, Witch! Burn the Witch!

Her hands slammed into the window, the sound echoing through the empty, black void. "HELP!" Was that her voice? Why did it sound so…wrong? "HELP ME! HELP ME! HELP!"

No one was there. No one was answering. Seconds after learning to breathe, she was already choking for air. Water fell from her eyes and streamed down her cheeks.

Her summoner had abandoned her here. She had given her these horrendous, crushing feelings that felt as if they would eat her whole; and these thoughts…these visions. She could see so many faces reflected in flames and water. So many unhappy memories, pulling her back into windows she had never seen before. So many mistakes to learn from, so much knowledge that burned her head.

Her hands slid down the mirror until she crumpled to her knees, wracked with sobs that wouldn't cease, thoughts and memories tangling together in a web of horrendous proportions. Why had her summoner done this? To punish her? But, for what? All her life, she had served her. Watched her. Smiled at her. Listened to her. Did she hate her? Did she want her to suffer this way?

A soft sound, akin to sand in an hourglass, echoed through the expanse and a light carved a hole in the darkness. She lifted her head, swallowing on a dry throat. Another window opened and she was yanked towards it. Suddenly, she was standing there, looking at her other self. They had both been crying. There were black lines down her cheeks that she frantically rubbed off. She copied her actions, magnetised to the moment. Her other self sniffed, then smiled.

"It didn't work, but that's okay" ".yako s'taht tub, krow t'ndid tI"

"I'll just…think of something else." ".esle gnihtemos fo kniht…tsuj ll'I"

Her other self walked away from the window, and the moment she left, it was as if she had been freed from invisible chains. Almost toppling forward, she shuddered and looked around the room on the other side of the window. There was a whole other world out there, beyond the glass. She looked behind her at the backdrop of reflection, then through the sides of the mirror. It was bigger out there than it was in here. She wanted to see it. She wanted to explore that world.

Another window opened in the darkness with a slinking sound. Immediately, she was in front of it, looking over another room. Her other self came bounding down the stairs. Someone was standing by a table. "Everything alright, May?" "¿yaM, thgirla gnihtyrevE"

Her head was forced to look away from the window. Towards another Mirror Entity. They had the kind, but concerned, face of an older woman with mousy brown hair. She had some books on the table with indistinguishable covers.

"Yeah, fine. Just getting some air." ".ria emos gnitteg tusJ. enif, haeY."

Her thoughts were focused on the rest of the room, but her gaze and movements were forced elsewhere while her other self - May - remained in view of the window. She followed her around to the corner of the window, feeling the connection break as the door slammed. Letting out a strained breath, she observed the scene. The older woman's Mirror Self momentarily kept her gaze on the unseen door, then sighed and went back to looking at the books, blissfully ignorant to the fact they were copying for all eternity.

Hiding in the darkness of the frame, she watched through the window at the reality outside. The older woman seemed distracted as she pored over the tomes on the table, stopping herself after a moment. She skirted around the edge of the table and rushed out of view.

"May!" "¡yaM" shouted the Entity, then vanished like sand in a storm.

She suddenly went cold, her eyes frantically searching the darkness for the Entity of the older woman, but they were gone. Was that what was supposed to happen to her? Once her moment in the window was complete, she just disappeared until she was needed again? There was a churning sensation in her stomach, the horrible feeling rising up her throat again and clinging to her chest like boney fingers.

She was trapped because of that girl, her other self: May. She was terrified and lonely and full of thinking because of her. Something was replacing her griping feelings. It was hot and tense and burning her insides. She wanted to lash out, to break something, to force the illusion to shatter, to show her what she had done and force her to set her free.

Her hand lurched towards the window and one of the books on the table came smashing towards it, shattering the glass. The connection broke and the world was plunged into fractured light and darkness. The scene behind her slipped away, becoming ruptured pieces that showed colourful rays of light. She breathed heavily, looking down at her hands through the slithers of light to find they were trembling. What had she just done? What was she capable of?

To distract me from my recent finished gopher project and my sadness at it becoming instantly obsolete, I'm going to write about some classpect things.

The recent thing that got me was the acknowledgement in AdventureSimWest that Wanda is a Lord of Space. This feels obvious in her powers, her control over space, but it doesn't feel like she would be that classpect ideologically.

Like, in Homestuck proper, characters with supernatural powers aren't classified by those powers, but by their character. Vriska has cerulean mind control powers, but that doesn't make her, like, a Witch of Mind or something.

And Wanda ideologically feels so much like a void player. Her whole thing is obfuscation: she will not explain things, she abhors the orderliness and sense of the fastpass system, and she turns every place she is in into a maze.

This feels in contrast to her time as Wodin and the Wanderer, where they were in the soul consuming pursuit of knowledge. The flip, though, is still along the Light-Void duality, so it could either be an inversion, or a switch of a destruction class from destroying their aspect to destroying with their aspect.

The only space class I can maybe see her being would be a Thief of Space, with Wanda's tendency to use her knowledge of media properties that have yet to be made to create them ahead of time, stealing the creativity from under the companies. But that element doesn't feel as core to her character as her desire to hide or not reveal info.

Anyway, that's the main thing I wanted to talk about, but below the readmore I'll be rambling about the classpects of other characters because I can.

Just a fair warning, I'll probably talk more about aspects as I feel I have a grip on them better, while the divided takes on the classes in the community makes me feel like I would need to know more about this work's specific interpretation of at least the pairs and verbs to really be able to work with them.

Turner, the Intern, is who I will ramble about first. And to me, he seems like he would be a blood player. It's hard to articulate, but he feels driven by the bonds he made with people. When Wodin died, he pursued choices that he otherwise wouldn't have in remembrance of that bond. There's probably more to say, because I feel like there is some blood like aspects to how he befriended different members of the Eyedol crew and how his presence grounds the group, but yeah. He vibes Blood.

But there's a lot of character's I'm not sure about and I think the problem with me interpreting a lot of characters in Zampaniosim is most of them feel tethered to the Light-Void duo of Knowledge and Obfuscation.

Like, I had a theory in homestuck in that every universe has somewhere a Lord-Muse of Dual Aspects and that informs the kind of values, motifs, story things etcetera of that universe. And applying that here, it feels like there's a strong compulsion of Light-Void that permeates everything.

If I had to give this vague concept the classpects, I'd say it's permeated by a Muse of Light and a Lord of Void, the underlying compulsion and desire for knowledge vs the external forcing of obfuscation through censoring powers like Vik and Naga.

So characters like Camille and Ria who seem so invested in their own gathering of information are really pushing me to want to classpect them in that context. But canonically Ria is a Witch of Hope and Camille a Knight of Doom. Really, a lot of the lobotomy corps characters are hard to classify for me. Devona and Neville are perfec for their classpects, but that could be because I heard it explained clearly in the youtube let's play of South.

Other canon classpects from the Codex of Ruin are: Witherby Sylph of Hope, Yongki Mage of Mind, K Thief of Light (perfect assignment), Parker Thief of Space, Closer Witch of Breath, and CFO Waste of Blood. For some of these I maybe vaguely see, others I don't know enough on them to really counter. And then the CFO is a Waste, which feels like it should be super relevant.

Anyway, last characters I'll briefly classpect are Peewee's children.

Melon. My immediate vibe on it is Prince of Life. It feels like with his focus on the environment it wouldn't be like this, but often in pursuit of helping the environment he ends up destroying it (wonder what the emissions are like on those explosives, hmm?)

Rebel. Going to be weird to say, but he vibes Blood. His anger at Peewee feels very much rooted in the bond between them Peewee has shirked. But I think this might be my limited perspective on the guy; he doesn't seem to value his bond with his brothers. Maybe it's the slight Karkat vibes he gives off that's making me classpect him Blood, idk.

Rod feels, hmm. Maybe mind. I feel like I actually need to reread adventure sim west to get a better grip on this because he has the most potential of being deciphered for me given how much he's been in the story, but I can't really pull anything specific right now.

Yeah, Classpecting is not something I'm used to doing, despite my love of it. I'm usually reading other people's classpecting stuff. And being in a property actively using the homestuck classpect system makes me feel the need to know how the work is interpreting it for me to be able to utilize it for analysis more.

June: Iroha and Ui are so kind to me. I also love chatting with Kaede and Momoko.

Hilda: I'm a little paranoid about meeting other people, but I do like Mikage and Sudachi. I met them by chance. Oh, and Sana too! She’s my comfort friend.

Tsuya: Hate!? I would never hate any magical girl! These wishes are hard on everyone, but everyone has a good reason to act the way they are.

Sharifa: AnktSet. My witch transformation would be triggered by the betrayal of my comrades or if I saw too many injustices.

Chimalma: Mictlan. I probably would be transformed due to my friends leaving me or if they died!

June: Libertia. If I couldn't heal my friends or if they were to die like my father, I would plunge right into despair.

Hilda: Little Girl. Paranoia, that's what would do me in.

Makoto/Mako: To be honest, the only thing I would become is an extension to Tsuya. My soul is connected to hers, so the second she turns into a witch, I join with her.

6. How does your OC feel about Mirrors? Do they avoid it, go there to practice, or want to solve it’s mysteries-- or do they have a different motivation?

Tsuya: I love seeing my reflection in them. They do, however, remind me of that one Phantom Sister.

Sharifa: A great place to burn off steam.

Chimalma: Kinda creepy, but silent enough for me to eat snacks in.

Hilda: I go in there from time to time and practice my magic.

Makoto/Mako: I go for training, but they always send clones of Tsuya at me!

Tsuya: The wish granting yokai? Oh he's a darling! When I go shopping, he has the best opinions on what to wear. Oh, I learned the truth years ago. Time travel does that to you.

Sharifa: That thing is a great source of comfort. It also sleeps with me the most. About witches, well I figured it out.

Chimalma: He's always at my practices and cheers me on. We go out to eat afterwards. He told me the truth, but I'm not afraid.

June: He's my little helper, knowing the best places to go for tea. I figured out the truth too.

Hilda: I do seek him for companionship and he's nice to have on stormy nights. It scared me at first when I learned the truth, but it wasn't surprising.

Makoto/Mako: I'm wary of the one that hangs near Tsuya. He has ulterior motives....Other than that, I know about witches due to my own wish.

8. Your OC just unleashed their Doppel! What sort of inner battle takes place? How do they overcome their inner darkness?

Tsuya: My inner battle would be between me wanting to make friends or going back home. I struggle with loneliness and the innermost feelings I have is that one day the girls will abandoned me. However, when I think about it, we share a bond that goes beyond time and space. I would overcome the darkness with said bond.

Sharifa: For me, the battle between truth and ideals would take place. I want to believe that there’s good in this world and not everything should be taken in face value. My problem is that I want to know the truth behind everything, but sometimes the truth isn’t always what you expect. To overcome this is to accept the fact that you will not always get the truth out of everyone.

Chimalma: *Shivers* Inner battle huh? Well my wish is tied to the fact that I want to protect my friends and family. Part of this makes me think that I am truly weak and cannot save everyone. Part of me doesn’t want to admit it, but I don’t like the fact that I would not be able to save my friends one day. But, I can cherish the moments I have with them now and forever.

June: My doppel might come out when I least suspect it. The grief I carry inside my heart is hidden by the support and care I give to my friends. That grief would manifest in front of me, reminding me how I couldn’t save my father back then. My mother always said to overcome grief is to live through it and then get stronger for it. I won’t be in despair when so many are cheering for me.

Hilda: Where do I start? Causing the destruction of Hiroshima? Not choosing a side in a life changing war? How about my constant need for comfort to curve my paranoia? You’ll have to come back to me.

Makoto/Mako: I wouldn’t even be fighting myself in the inner world. I probably will see both myself and Tsuya in a future that might’ve been if she hadn’t left me. I still regret not proposing to her that night and living my life with her. Losing her made such a big impact on me and I will continue to have those regrets.

9. Kaede is inside a witch’s barrier and needs saving! How does your OC help? ...Or do they not help?

*The entire group would drop everything to go help her if they were close by. June would make sure she was okay, Hilda would help her out, and the rest would be fighting the witch.*

Hmm, good question. There’s been a lot of cases that she’s had a hard time on. But one that was the hardest, at least in her eyes, was the one where someone she was in a relationship with ended up dead because she couldn’t get to them in time. It happened five years ago.

Ria had been trying to find and capture a guy who kept sending the PDF officers holo-mails telling them someone would die if they couldn’t get to them in time. But the problem was, much to her frustration, was that he only gave them a few clues to go by. It was mentally challenging for her to deal with it all, staying of hours upon hours to try and find the answers either alone or with someone else in the PDF. It didn’t help that the guy made fun of them every time they failed either. But when one of those mails led her straight to the person she cared about the most, Ria didn’t even wait for her captain’s orders, she went out before the other officers and, in secret, teleported to her friend’s home. She managed to capture the guy since her was still in the apartment and ready to leave but, he had already done what he came for. Ria almost ended up killing the guy upon the horrifying discovery but, much to her relief, managed to restrain herself.

He ended up behind bars once the others arrived, locked up for the rest of his life, while Ria ended up being scared of ever forming a new, more serious relationship with someone out of fear that they might end up dead too.
