Book Review #9 - The Fastest Man Alive
ཻུ۪۪📚𓍢ִ໋🌷͙֒❀˖°
Once again, as your resident track and field enthusiast, I am obviously inclined to reading books about sprinters, jumpers, fielders... basically any athlete in the sport. So when you give me a chance to learn about the living legend who is Usain Bolt, is it possible for me to even refuse?
I liked how this book showed readers more about Bolt's personality through narratives (from his own first-hand POV) of the different challenges and successes he faced in his career build-up. I thought the accounts by his loved ones on being related to him were very wholesome and allowed me to see him as an individual distinguished from his occupation. There is not very detailed information about his training, techniques or other athletic matters, but you get some interesting facts about what he does to enhance his performance. The overall focus is on his beliefs, culture, qualities and wisdom - more of a reflection on his life I would say. The book's flow is also hard to follow at some points, with information being all over the place instead of a smooth organized sequence. It's still an interesting read though, if you want to know what he feels about achieving everything that he has until the 2012 London Olympics. Also, if you are looking for how to live a laid-back life, this book is a good guide. Usain is the embodiment of composure.
Rating: 3/5
Edition: Paperback, 2016, Sports Publishing
Target Audience: Anyone interested in Usain Bolt/biographies
Let me know this book interests you in the comments below!
Signing off till next time~

sport
el deporte
Who’s your favorite sports player? Imagine him or her suddenly being arrested and handcuffed, on the field, live on TV, and being brought straight to the airport and deported.
Yeah, doping seems to be a serious crime.
Players have to deport themselves in an appropriate manner on the field.
Football (soccer) is my favorite sport.
El fútbol es mi deporte preferido.

the amount of people who have messaged me something along the lines of “so Taylor swift is not rooting for the eagles this year huh?” As if her Wyomissing- to-Tennessee-ass has any real dedication to begin with 😭

Since the World Cup is in full swing, expect the sporting vocabulary to return! Here’s a lovely tweet from within the Red Wall for some vocabulary for today:
Dwi ddim yn cefnogi (Cymru) oherwydd i ni fod yn dda na llwyddianus. Dyma be ydwi a dyma be fydda’i.
I don’t support (Wales) because we are good or successful. This is what I am and this is what I will be.
Vocabulary
cefnogi -> to support
cefnogw(y)r -> supporter(s)
cefn(au) -> back(s) (noun, like your body)
baner(i) -> flag(s)
oherwydd -> because (also, achos)
da -> good (adjective; yn dda is the adverb)
na -> or, nor, either, neither (also, neu - causes soft mutation)
ffyniant, llwydiant -> success (noun, masc)
Llwyddianus -> successful
Dyma -> here is, this is
be (beth) -> what
Fyddaf is the future first person singular form of bod, to be, fydda(f) i.
Ydw/dw are the colloquial Welsh present tense forms: ydw/dw i.
Some extras thrown in,
Chwaraeon -> sport, games
Cwpan Y Byd -> The World Cup
diwylliant chwaraeon -> sporting culture
pêl droed, ffwtbol -> football
Ac wrth gwrs,

town square
la plaza
Imagine a town square with different public sport courts: football, basketball, soccer… There’s also a place where you can play chess. So there are many players on the ‘plaza’.
There are many pigeons in the square.
