I think it’s because Danny’s own parents kinda suck and any other ghost that he’s interacted with he’s had to fight in some capacity or has been spooked by them. Jason’s the only one who 1) wanted to parent him and 2) has good vibes. Danny’s usually waiting for fights to happen and he’s very stressed. Jason calms him down so much he probably falls asleep before they even get to Jason’s apartment, full trust that Jason will take care of him.

timeliness is not a spider-man virtue. it’s more or less a spider thing to be bad at being timely. peter’s always been a little too early, a little too late, but following the spell that wipes everyone’s memory of him, he is for once… right on time. i am right on time by bleachers, captures the mess of peter’s life as a result of his two identities, and how he’s given a new chance to start again and come at everything he does with a bit more understanding and acceptance of his flaws and the consequences of his actions. following the death of may, and nearly breaking open the multiverse and destroying his new york, there’s a whole lot that he has to face and come to terms with, including his momentary determination to cross his biggest moral line (to never kill). he can’t dismiss that he has a lot of issues, and emotion and vulnerability and all of it has consequences for him.

the song’s verses capture what his early days as spider-man were like, and the way that peter approached a lot of what he did. he gets this critique a lot over the years, that he’s naive and doesn’t think and just does. which is true. he has good intentions, he merely doesn’t think all of them through some times and although some things can be seen as comical, they’re overall damaging. but he doesn’t see those consequences, not often at least, and when he does he manages to put a bandaid on a situation or get lucky. for someone with terrible luck, he gets by on it often.

eventually, that catches up to him. luck cannot save him every time and neither can a positive attitude. he trusts too easily and his whole identity is put out for the world to see because of it. he loses may and head on he has to face that he is spiraling fast, and a lot of what has happened has been in part because he was either stubborn or wanted something to go his way or ignored something altogether. he’s not wrong for wanting to fix things, or escape from certain responsibilities, he is very much still young and child. but he’s used to something like magic being a fix. he’s used to a cover up. he’s seen those things happen and he believes that maybe they could be the solution for him too. it doesn’t work like that, at least not for him.

for once in my life i am right on time

after the memory wipe, he’s presented with a unique opportunity to do things his way and his way alone. he is for the first time truly alone, and it’s good for him. there’s no one to offer him a suit or even give him the materials to scrap one together— not that he was ever looking for those handouts but some saved his life or were all he had in a pinch. nobody has any preconceived notion of him and no judgement. sure, spider-man still has a lot to face in regard to public opinion but even that he gets a second chance at. for once, and maybe the only time, peter is exactly where he should be and he is right on time.
