ZUTARA WEEK 2021 (Catch-up), Day One: Hair

NOTE: So back in 2021, I missed Zutara Week. That was the only time I had ever not written for Zutara Week during the actual year. The only other time I wasn’t able to post on the actual dates was back in 2012 but I still managed to post stuff within the same year. But 2021 was a challenging year for me and I could not write as much as I used to.

I managed to bounce back in 2022 and 2023 but it bothered me to have a gap in my Zutara Week entries. And the 2021 prompts were really good too! 

I’ve been making up for what I missed in 2021 in terms of fanfiction writing so I decided to power through with my 2021 Zutara Week one-shots this year and I’ve chosen the dates that lead up to the premiere of the live-action series on February 22.

I’m pretty sure I will have a lot of thoughts and feelings about that new iteration of the show so I wanted to get these pieces out before then, so as not to mix any 2024 Zutara thoughts with 2021 ideas, if that makes any sense. All that and also to give myself a firm deadline since I’ve found that this is the effective way to help me get things done.

Buck: It’s Buck

TK: Buck who?

Buck: Buck from the 118 in LA. We put out a fire together and became best friends.

TK: We literally just met once and haven’t been in contact since.

Buck: Ha! So you do know who I am!

TK: Buck, it’s 3 in the morning here, I am hanging up

Carlos: You can’t hang up. What about his crisis?

TK: …How did you hear that?

Carlos: Impeccable hearing. Now help him

Buck: Is that your boyfriend? You should marry him

TK: I did. Now who the hell is Eddie?

Buck: My best friend

TK: I thought I was your best friend.

Buck: I can have more than one best friend, Teeks. It’s not high school.

TK: Teeks? I am seriously hanging up now

Buck: No, no, no wait. Help me!

TK: Fine. Why me though? Am I the only queer person you know? That right there raises some red flags

Buck: No! I have other LGBTQIA+ friends. I just can’t talk to them because they’re friends with Eddie too.

Carlos: You share friends? That’s a good start.

Buck: Oh hey! You must be TK’s husband! I’m Buck

Carlos: Nice to meet you, Buck. I’m Carlos. So you’re in love with your best friend?

Buck: Yes but-

Carlos: But you can’t tell him because you’re scared of ruining the friendship?

Buck:

Buck: How did you know that?!

Carlos: That’s an age old problem. You’re not the first one.

Buck: Okay, so what do I do?

TK: Nothing

Buck, Carlos: WHAT?!

TK: If he doesn’t want to ruin the friendship then what’s the point?

Buck: Is this some sort of reverse psychology?

TK: No, it’s a fact.

Carlos: What TK means is that you can't let the fear of ruining your friendship keep you from pursuing Eddie. TK: That's literally not what I said. Buck: But what if I lose Eddie? Carlos: Do you really want a friend who doesn't stick around after learning that you like them? Buck: You've got a point. Thanks, y'all. TK: Are you trying to sound Texan? Buck: Did I deliver? TK: No. *hangs up* Buck: Rude.
