<inhale>
<long, controlled, extremely audible exhale>
...
I am literally begging someone-- ANYONE, ANYWHERE--
DO YOUR FUCKING JOB TO AT LEAST THE BAREST MINIMUM PLEASE!!!
I just went to sign up for student health insurance, because I live in a capitalist hellscape, and there was the option to pay in installments or pay all at once, and on each of those pages there were two options.
On the pay-all-at-once page there was "Medical" and "Medical+Dental". Great. Good. Clear. Concise. Par for the course.
However, I was not going to pay-all-at-once, I was going to pay in installments, and on that page there was;
Medical... | $700
Medical... | $750
The end of the name of the plan was cut off. I had to make a college-educated guess as to which one included dental coverage.
I ended up being correct but if I ever find the motherfucker responsible for this, I will absolutely hex their comprehension of all things to end just 2 words before the end of a given thought or sentence.
Enjoy your manufactured neuroses, idiot.

When you’re burnt out from working 80 hours a week and on the edge of losing your damn mind from sleep deprivation but then someone gives you a small snack or you have time to sit down and drink a cup of water:
Today I had the chance to drink a whole cup of water between OR cases and I almost cried of happiness. When the highlight of your day is that you had the chance to pee once, something is wrong.
Residents like me work 80 hours a week (sometimes more) for what calculates out to be less than minimum wage because this is how residencies are structured and because we are the last line between patients and unsafe care. You didn’t hire enough nurses? Have the resident remove/place foleys and NG tubes. You didn’t hire enough transport staff? Have the resident transport patients. I can’t in good conscience let my patients have less than the standard of care, but it becomes unsustainable when you don’t have enough staff. To top this all off, my hospital CEO got a raise of millions of dollars this year, but my raise to next year doesn’t even keep up with inflation. People justify this treatment of residents by saying that oh well we will be rich when we’re attendings, as if having a higher salary in the future justifies this kind of exploitation. I know residents right now who are struggling to afford healthcare for their children, who struggle to find affordable housing within the area we are required to live because of home call. There is simply no justification for the amount of work we do compared with our pay (or the hours we work period).
Maybe this is just a long way of saying please be kind to residents in the hospital. We work really hard within a really broken system and care a lot about our patients.

I would love to not be broke as fuck….like I have a FULL TIME JOB!!! A hard job. A job that requires (ignoring desantis on this one) a bachelors degree. A job that requires you to continually recertify and educate yourself. One where you’re consistently evaluated. Yet I still have to live with my sister and can barely make ends meet because of ridiculous rent prices. I just WANT TO BE FINANCIALLY FREE!!!!!!!!!

𝗖𝗪: mental health system, mental health struggles
I despise explaining to folks who have not struggled with the mental health system why it's inaccessible to get the help you need. I don't know how many times therapy has been recommended to me or a loved one like it was easy or accessible. Like we haven't begged and tried already.
While having a public mental breakdown in 2016/17 I was basically on my knees pleading to be put on a waiting list or to be seen by someone with a sliding-scale system with an already overwhelmed therapist and/or counsellor.
Therapy is expensive. I am doing an intake tomorrow & it's nearly $200 I can't afford. And they want me to sign a contract saying I can't leave them without TWO exit interviews that I again have to pay for. The insurance I get through my school is... pennies. I had a panic attack today because I know I need help so that I don't slide back to where I was 7 years ago.
Just stop telling people to go get therapy like it's a kookie catchphrase. It's unhelpful. It's really hard to find a therapist who is taking patients. It's hard to find a therapist who specializes in your needs. It's hard to find a therapist who takes your insurance. I only got to finally see a therapist in 2016 after I finally was taken to the hospital.
