The Ethnogenesis of the Alemanni
Bachelor’s Thesis in the Course Cultural Studies at the FernUniversität in Hagen Grade: 1.0 By Marcel Biehringer (Translated from German by AI, proofread by the author) 1 Introduction Questions about one’s own identity are an essential part of being human. How an individual defines himself or herself also depends on the social group to which he or she feels that he or she belongs (cf. Brather…

I’ve been reading some genetic studies (I’m a bit obssesed with genetics lately), about the different human groups that share the most genetic similarities with Spaniards and Portuguese. Of course, Europeans come first (Southern and Central French, North Italians and Swiss belonging to roughly the same ethnic group as “Iberians”, being all from the same "stock") , then the very North coastal population of North Africa, and finally Near Easterns (Eastern Mediterranean people, not surprising). Thing is, there’s this study from which I basically draw the conclusion that were Spaniards to become extinct, in order to bring us back (which is a must), you should mix about 80% of French fat butter, 12% of Italian wine (from Tuscany and Rome mainly, nice Latin blood wine u.u), 5% of Morrocan mint tea, and 3% of Irish Baileys XD (because I refuse to be made of English fish and chips, so I’m taking the Irish within the “native British and Irish”). And 100% of love.

#my shenanigans#XD#the fish&chips part is half jocking#funny thing is#the fish and chips dish comes from Spanish adn possibly Portuguese Sephardic Jews that fled to England after their expulsion#so technically#fish and chips are a Spanish derived dish#who would have thought#the only dich England is famous for is not English either u.u#just jocking#i love your cakes and pies#also#guys#this is an oversimplificated post#i mean#you could 100% make a spaniard out of all those groups#but the actual genes of Spanish people do not come only from those groups#there's a little bit of Northern Germanic#specifically southern sweden and northern german#goths suebi and vandals anyone?#as for eastern Europeans we do get small percentages from them too#Goths were in reality a mix of Northern European originally from Southern Sweden and Eastern Europeans#plus we have the Alans too#the mix of Northern and Southern European in France is similar to that in Spain#small traces of Eastern European genetics are also similar in France and Spain#and that's why they assigned all those genes to France instead of breaking them down into smaller percentages of Swedish and Romanian lol#on the other hand about a third of the Italian is probably gaulish from France that was carried by the celts when they got here#if not more#the moroccan is also not moroccan but mostly ancient north african from the roman carthagenean phoenitian and even earlier times#a smaller part of it would come from the berber tribes or moors during the al-ándalus and taifa kingdoms Medieval times

I like to imagine that one of the first occasions when European nations could have learned about each other’s existence was during the Migration Period (mid-300s — mid-500s CE), when the Goths, Huns and other tribes invaded and settled on the former territories of the Western Roman Empire.
Putting a time stamp on a nation’s 'birth' can be tricky, but, from what I've seen, most fans seem to agree that Ro was born sometime during the Romanization process of Dacia (106 - 271 CE), which preceded the initial stage of the Migration Period.
The existence of a small and seemingly unaging boy, living on the banks of the Danube, could have easily remained part of the local lore. Instead, the Visigoths, who had crossed the territory of present-day Romania, would have spread the rumour about this unusual sight as they pushed further into the Italian and Iberian Peninsulas. They would have also been among the first to realize that there are countless other kids like him, too.
What if that’s how most of them found out about each other before they had the means to travel and meet?

Belt Buckle from Maria Ponsee, Austria dated between 500 - 800 CE on display at the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna, Austria
With almost 100 graves, Maria Ponsee is the largest Langobardian burial site in Austria. It was excavated in 1965 and 1966 by the Federal Monuments Office and is one of the few cemeteries from this period to have been completely examined. Three ethnic groups buried their deceased here: Langobards, Thuringii and Romani or Suebi. What remains in these graves is what was left by grave robbers over the centuries.

Calling all Book Cover Artists!
Hello lovely Tumblrinas!
If you have been following me a while you know I am updating/rewriting my Caracalla fic into an actual full-length novel. I'm midway through my second draft and am hoping to ramp up a marketing strategy in October/November.
However, I need a cover design! I've been on the Reedsy platform but none of the work there has grabbed me, and also a lot of the artists on there have tons of experience and are either out of my price range or have a long waiting list.
So, I thought I'd throw it out to Tumblr. If you have any experience with book cover design, or know someone who does, please DM me. Below is some more information about the book:
Genre: Historical Fiction with Romantic Elements/Historical Romance (though too angsty for the Romance Genre)
Audience: Women, Romance readers, Historical fiction readers, casual interest due to Gladiator II release
Blurb: Gelvira is a Suebi healer in Germania. When the Roman Emperor Caracalla arrives with his Legions and threatens her way of life, her people prepare to fight. But Gelvira and Caracalla are drawn together for reasons both don't understand, risking everything, even the wrath of their respective gods, to be together…
Budget: I absolutely want to pay artists what they are worth, but I don't have a sense of what the market rate for something like this is, but let's talk. Sorry that's so vague.
Keeping the title under wraps for now. Thank you!

Isis of the Suebi In the book Germania, by Tacitus, he reports on the worship of Isis by the Suebi tribe. It's common belief that this interpretatio romana is likely in regards to the worship of Freyja/Frigg. It is my belief that Freyja and Isis are syncretic with one another. I incorperated some celtic and modern symbology into the art as well, such as the symbol of Awen, as I consider myself to be a druid, and the triple goddess symbol to represent unity of the goddesses/divine feminine.

Theodisco-Ægyptian private associations, not alleging any historical connection-
Woden = Ré, Thôth, Hôr (in particular his intact eye is the Sun and the eye in the sea of mead is the Moon, cf. the synonymity of Chandra with Soma in India; I think Hôr is the young form of Ré at the end of the mythological cycle)
Thunder = Séth (= Ba'al), beyond the obvious consider also Séths title as "Soul of Géb" while Thórr is always called Son of the Earth
Easter-Free = Hathôr-Sachmi, Ise (and I also think that Tacitus' "Isis of the Suebi" is literally Freyja, there called by the synonymous Proto-Germanic name *Idisiz)
Ing-Free = Ousire of course
Balder = also Ousire (this would also make Nanna an Ise and Forset a Hôr)

The Siege of Tremaine, Part 1
“Here, let me put it another way: they used to say all roads lead to Rome. Well Tremaine’s kinda like that but bigger. More roads.”
- Sector Governor Lord Consul Geronimo LaGrange, explaining Tremaine’s economic value to Lord Admiral Fergus Maxicallus
By the 4th year of the Unification Wars, the Imperial Third Fleet had been savagely mauled, first by the Disaster at Koroa, and then the subsequent years of hit and run attacks in support of Imperial efforts in its home region. After near continuous combat operations since the outbreak of the conflict, the Fleet would finally be granted permission to return to its home port for full repairs.
The Igorian domask Fayatan seized on this moment to achieve one of his primary goals of the war: the final humiliation of the celebrated Third Fleet. Gathering the 7 Crusades under his command, Fayatan began planning for his assault on Third Fleet’s headquarters world, Tremaine. To do this, he would need complete surprise, extreme precision, and uncompromisingly overwhelming force, otherwise what was left of the Third, some 63 capital ships all told, would escape to haunt the Igorians still.
The last part of Fayatan’s plan was the easiest to attain. The domask had long enjoyed the support of the Igorian Republic’s Central Committee and especially its Strategic Operations Center, who controlled when and where the various Igorian Crusades were deployed. Giving his word that he would involve the rising star of the SOC, domask Cavamath To-Toroan Eldasil, in the operation, the SOC granted him the support of an additional 8 Crusades. Overwhelming force achieved, next for the domask was surprise. With his forces assembled, he contacted the information broker Naratan Nal’no’Toa, and negotiated for Tremaine’s system-wide security codes. With these, he would be able to disable 3rd Fleet’s early warning system. They would still be in orbital drydock when his crusades descended on them.
Lastly, he focused on precision. For this, he baited the allied Aberinian Ferathtz Clan War Chief Efkus into attacking Tremaine. While Efkus’ paltry forces were obliterated, the Igorian scoutship Vorsus El-Ekth recorded Imperial deployment points, system patrol routes, and which Imperial ships were capable of engaging and which remained moored over Tremaine. Fayatan had his plan.
On April 11th, 2675, Fayatan’s 3rd, 11th, 15th, and 26th Crusades jumped in system, provoking an immediate Imperial response. The superdreadnough IHNV For Whom The Bell Tolls and her battlegroup were the first deployed ships to engage the Igorians, successfully holding the advance force at bay. This was when Fayatan crashed Tremaine’s security network. Almost immediately, multiple Imperial systems, including fleetwide communications, IFF, and fire control were disabled. The Bell and her escorts were defeated in detail, and the Igorians shut down Tremaine’s long range broadcast beacons, isolating it from the Imperial communications system. With their beachhead secured, the 18th, 42nd, and 91st Crusades arrived in system, and began the ground invasion of Cyprii, one of the Tremaine system’s outer planets, and an important fuel depot for the 3rd Fleet. Within days, the token 2011th Legion garrison is annihilated.
The remaining 8 crusades assigned to Fayatan now arrived in system. In less than a week, the Imperials had been forced into a fighting retreat from the system’s edge, surrendering the moons Herodor, Thetii, Asculum, and Suebi, and the colony of Cygnus. By April 19th, they will be forced back to Tremaine itself, with every other world and moon in the system under Igorian control.
High Admiral Oppius Galens will attempt multiple sorties from Tremaine’s orbital ring, but each would be repulsed by the hundreds of Igorian ships in system. Finally, on April 23rd, he gathers what remains of 3rd Fleet’s active combat vessels and punches through the Igorian blockade, officially surrendering control of all space in the Tremaine system. A day later, the ground invasion of Tremaine begins. Left behind to hold the world is Legatus Primus Helmand Oratio Nino and the troops of the 19th Army. The 11th Legio Ferrata Dux, 244th Drop Assault, 91st Stellar Siege Legion, 419th Heavy Marine, and 996th Legio Armageddon, together numbering just over a million Imperial legionaries, will face the full might of the Igorian Army and every single soldier they can bring to bear, and they will do it on their own with no known hope of support. Thus, the Siege of Tremaine has begun.

Several polities and vassal states did not survive the Romantic Wars; for example, the Principality of the Morea in Greece, which had existed as a vassal of the Second Roman Empire since the eleventh century, was formally dissolved in the aftermath of the Romantic Wars.

i understand that it's quite silly to complain about some part of something so unsystematic and arbitrary, but Liber 777 (Crowley's big list of symbolic correspondences) does not include Fortuna in its list of Roman gods, nor Tyche in its list of Greek gods. this seems like a remarkable omission to me. right away, the Wheel of Fortune (which is derived from medieval Fortuna iconography) from the tarot list is necessarily mispaired. it's placed in position 21 and therefore pairs with Zeus and Jupiter in the Greek and Roman tables, and with Amun-Ra on the Egyptian tables—the lords of the heavens. what is the basis of that correspondence? of course it really needs to be with Fortuna and Tyche and, once you include them, Isis, who was syncretized with Fortuna in the Roman world.
another complaint: the Scandanavian list does not include Skaði or Iðunn. the only goddesses are Freyja and Frigg, who are made to fill roles which aren't appropriate to them. Freyja appears at 7 and 14, the same as Aphrodite. Crowley obviously thinks of Freyja as the Norse Aphrodite. i believe he thinks that because they are both women. apart from that, what do they have in common? i think it makes the most sense to pair Aphrodite with Baldr, since his stories revolve around his beauty. Freyja is a goddess of war, but in a very specifically Germanic sense, as a chooser of the slain. she is not appropriate to pair with Ares, who makes war, nor really with Hera, who is more like Skaði, the huntress (Iðunn can be Persephone, since they both get kidnapped and handle fruit)—she is more like a fate. well, today i read an article (click) which argues that Freyja has an association with ships: her hall, Sessrúmnir, is listed as a famous ship in the Prose Edda. they spin this into an argument that Freyja is the "Isis of Suebi" mentioned in Tacitus' Germania who is associated with ship symbolism. if this is the case, Tacitus has provided the attribution for us; Fortuna-Isis, the blind, inarticulate virgin who holds the rudder, is our unlikely correspondence for Freyja.
oh, and don't take this post too seriously—you probably shouldn't think about mythology in this esotericist way. we are as intersted in the differences between characters as we are their similarities. there isn't really an equivalent of Scandanavia's female dooms anywhere else in the world, and while it's interesting to think about Fortuna and Freyja's combined associations with fate, fertility and fortune, Fortuna has nothing to do with the slain and Freyja has nothing to do with chance. i just had to get it out of my system.

i NEED ur genius mind right now..,, what ethnicity do you think delirium (fortnite!!!) would beee 😁😁😁
Doing some quick and ROUGH research,, considering he uses runes I started looking into that. He could be REALLY old and from an ancient germanic tribe. This could be backed up by the fact germanic people were pagan, and runes are important to that religion.
Looking into the tribes, I can conclude (aka purely headcanon) that Delirium is ancient germanic, originally belonging to the Suebi tribe.
Tldr really old and really European
