This was supposed to just be a background for a Silly Drawing but I got. Carried away with the TARDIS Design of it all. Eighteenth Doctor's TARDIS!
Tumblr media
[ID: Digital drawing of a tardis console room, in shades of brass, gray, gold and brown, with red wire mesh floor paths. Glowing pipes- like pneumatic tubes- grow out of the central oclumn like a tree and enter various octagonal slots in the wall. A beige chair faces the far side of rhe console, and behind it s door, with more red mesh in the window. A strange dimensiona support column is embedded in the other wall. /End ID]
The chair can travel on a rail around the console!

okay so have this thing where i get... a few errors. because i have weird things in my script that WORRK LET ME REMIND YOU THIS WHOLE GAME RN WORKS IT JUST ACTS A BIT QUIRKY SOMETIMES. ANYWAY i have things like a timer that keeps going on so every 2 seconds a new error starts, or when i walk into a room a bunch of errors pop up caus i made interaction script in the player script (stuff like if player touches this specific thing then that happens) and because the thing the player interacts with ISNT in that scene godot goes like " HUH WTF???? THEN WHY ARE YOU SAYING IT LIKE THAT?????" and then proceed to scream:
"E R R O R"
giving me 12 errors and yelling at me. BUT IT DIDN'T DO ANYTHING WRONG THO THE SCRIPT WORKS. SO WHY CHANGE IT!!!!! anyway so i realised it might be a good idea to rework the player script to remove every interaction thing and move it to a separated script specific for every scene and i will make a new one for every scene to remove these annoying errors. That and i also am fucking tired with the insanely messy code i made for the player caus it is littered with random code that i tried ot make work but its like i broke up with it but i sometimes find some of their stuff in my house, so i stil have random lines of code that do N O T H I N G and is annoying me constantly but i am to afraid to remove things caus it WORKS and if i change it it often breaks.

"a canon character other than the Drakes is Tim's bio parent" is a fun sandbox to play in but the half-joking focus fandom gives it due specifically to Jack & Janet having inconsistent hair colors (Crystal does too, guys) drives me up the wall a bit.
My hair is currently purple and blue. Purple and blue. Do you really really really think it is that improbable that Janet Drake has tried out different 'natural' hair colors through the magic of bleach and dye?
Do you really think it's so improbable that Jack has? Especially since he went gray during the coma?

DBH fanfic mfs got a obsession with DPD post-canon. It's a corrupt police place, bro. Their high ranks are in the pockets of the mayor and CyberLife.
Connor is outta DPD in "Last Chance". A captain can't do shit like "i want this man back" and this is it. They got a Chief. Connor is now a terrorist in CL's view (deviant who killed his guards and got an army with stole androids). Connor was in the DPD cuz CL wanted.
Hank loses his badge if he hit Perkins (parallel to him quitting the force if hostile), getting him back means the cops are indeed corrupt. Hank shouldn't even be in the force to begin with. I doubt a cop with his disciplinary record and "drinking issues" don't get suspended irl. Unless your path is "Connor got Jericho location from Chloe" or neutral/tense, Hank's is out.
The 200k RK900s are for the state department, they won't get deviant if they ain't active in the moment of the revolution and i doubt CL gonna let y'all touch 'em until there ARE LAWS sayin' all androids got the right to be autonomous. Unless u gonna make some of 'em look for the deviant Connor, they ain't got opportunity for deviation. They ain't in CL tower, probably in another warehouse.
It's not logical partnering an android with Reed. Fowler choose Hank cuz they're friends and he trusted Hank to do the job. An android would probably be partnered with Ben cuz he seems more "efficient". But like i said, the only reason Connor is in DPD is cuz of CL and i doubt he would want to go back there.
The DPD mfs u can think about in post-canon is Gavin, Ben, Chris, Tina etc. They still in the city. Just remember Detroit gonna be in android's hands for a couple of weeks, don't matter if u had a Demonstration or Revolution.
If u can make an fanfic justifying all these topics and still use the "DPD detectives" formula, congratulations, you are the 1%. But plz, for the love of god, leave your major game events in the description so i can get which direction u took.

some things about sunrise on the reaping/the hunger games universe i'm thinking about today
haymitch was close friends with katniss's father when they were teenagers... how many times did haymitch see her at the hob or around town and do a double take?
burdock everdeen is lenore dove baird's distant cousin, meaning katniss is connected to lucy gray's bloodline... literally snow's worst nightmare come back to haunt him, down to genetics
reaping day is on the fourth of july. idk what else to say about this one i think we're all on the same page about this
katniss wanting wiress, beetee, and mags as allies despite over half of the victor tributes wanting to pair up with her... the three victors who helped haymitch win his games
haymitch, the victor of a games with twice as many tributes, bringing two victors home as a mentor in the 74th games
despite having the most tributes and therefore the most deadly, with the least odds of survival per tribute, the 50th hunger games had the most alliances out of any other games
beetee's son being a tribute in the quell- i know we're all there already and it's been talked about endlessly but i'd like us to recall in catching fire when katniss tells the reader that the children of victors are reaped at a disproportionate amount... ampert was not the first nor was he the last. how many tributes were reaped to punish previous victors? "you tried to take away control from the capitol... look what we can take from you"
the circumstances of ampert's death: mutts that were engineered just for him, just for beetee, designed to literally strip him of anything that made him recognizable while they killed him. beetee and his family didn't even have a body to bury, just a pile of bones
we also know that at the end of sotr, beetee's wife is pregnant, but when beetee comes to district 13 in mockingjay he is alone. was his family killed in the uprising, or was yet another one of his children sent to the games as punishment for beetee's actions before and during the 2nd quarter quell?
effie was the last person haymitch saw before the games began. she came into his launch room before he went into the tube... she was the last face he saw, the last person he touched, before the games changed him forever. she was the last person to know the "old" haymitch
maysilee didn't even like the mockingjay pin- it wasn't a beloved token that had a deep meaning to generations before katniss. it meant nothing until katniss made it mean something- until madge, maysilee's niece, made it mean something
gale mocking madge for wearing an especially nice dress and trying to present herself well on reaping day, and her defending herself by saying "i want to look nice if they send me to the capital" - maysilee being scorned by haymitch for her nice clothes and her necklaces until he realizes it's her own way of rebelling against the capitol... "i am going to make you see me as human too if it kills me" (they all try to dress their best for reaping day but gale & haymitch were bothered by madge & maysilee’s clothes as a status symbol)
haymitch mentions that hattie used to tell him "fire is catching", which later became one of the slogans of the rebellion via katniss's propos with plutarch
haymitch's token being a flint striker, and katniss being the girl on fire. katniss inciting the rebellion by succeeding at the exact task at which haymitch failed- destroying the force field. she wasn’t special, she was just in the right place at the right time and got enough support
we've always seen the quarter quell as a way of snow getting back at katniss for her rebellion in the 74th games, but after sotr we know she is hardly the first victor to rebel against the capitol. beetee was already a rebel in his own right, wiress and mags were instrumental in haymitch's victory in the 50th games, we can infer from johanna's characterization as loud and outspoken and certainly less than palatable to the capital's propoganda that she may have had a less than ideal (to the capitol) history... how many victor tributes were reaped on purpose? how many of them won their games through an act of defiance that was covered up?
similary, we know plutarch's plan with katniss was similar to his plan with haymitch... but surely they weren't the only two. how many other tributes, district 12 or otherwise, did plutarch and co. try to use as weapons, simply by being victims of circumstance? how many families of rebellious tributes, whether they were victors or not, were punished, because they went along with plutarch's plan thinking they had nothing left to lose seeing as they were probably going to die anyway? so much of haymitch's games was covered up and rewritten to hide his defiance of the capitol,,, how many other games were significantly or almost entirely fabricated by the capitol because of "unruly" tributes? was any of it real?
anyway i may be reaching with some of these but suzanne collins just gave us so much to think about with sotr!!! i've seen some dissent about how some of sotr disrupts the canon of thg but i think that's entirely the point... none of what katniss knew about haymitch's games was real to begin with, it's just what was fed to her by the capitol.
don't let media literacy die friends there are too many stupid people in the world already!!! mwah

Mission directors announced for the Climate Project at MIT

Mission directors announced for the Climate Project at MIT
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Climate Project at MIT has appointed leaders for each of its six focal areas, or Climate Missions, President Sally Kornbluth announced in a letter to the MIT community today.
Introduced in February, the Climate Project at MIT is a major new effort to change the trajectory of global climate outcomes for the better over the next decade. The project will focus MIT’s strengths on six broad climate-related areas where progress is urgently needed. The mission directors in these fields, representing diverse areas of expertise, will collaborate with faculty and researchers across MIT, as well as each other, to accelerate solutions that address climate change.
“The mission directors will be absolutely central as the Climate Project seeks to marshal the Institute’s talent and resources to research, develop, deploy and scale up serious solutions to help change the planet’s climate trajectory,” Kornbluth wrote in her letter, adding: “To the faculty members taking on these pivotal roles: We could not be more grateful for your skill and commitment, or more enthusiastic about what you can help us all achieve, together.”
The Climate Project will expand and accelerate MIT’s efforts to both reduce greenhouse gas emissions and respond to climate effects such as extreme heat, rising sea levels, and reduced crop yields. At the urgent pace needed, the project will help the Institute create new external collaborations and deepen existing ones to develop and scale climate solutions.
The Institute has pledged an initial $75 million to the project, including $25 million from the MIT Sloan School of Management to launch a complementary effort, the new MIT Climate Policy Center. MIT has more than 300 faculty and senior researchers already working on climate issues, in collaboration with their students and staff. The Climate Project at MIT builds on their work and the Institute’s 2021 “Fast Forward” climate action plan.
Richard Lester, MIT’s vice provost for international activities and the Japan Steel Industry Professor of Nuclear Science and Engineering, has led the Climate Project’s formation; MIT will shortly hire a vice president for climate to oversee the project. The six Climate Missions and the new mission directors are as follows:
Decarbonizing energy and industry
This mission supports supports advances in the electric power grid as well as the transition across all industry — including transportation, computing, heavy production, and manufacturing — to low-emissions pathways.
The mission director is Elsa Olivetti PhD ’07, who is MIT’s associate dean of engineering, the Jerry McAfee Professor in Engineering, and a professor of materials science and engineering since 2014.
Olivetti analyzes and improves the environmental sustainability of materials throughout the life cycle and across the supply chain, by linking physical and chemical processes to systems impact. She researches materials design and synthesis using natural language processing, builds models of material supply and technology demand, and assesses the potential from recovering value from industrial waste through experimental approaches. Olivetti has experience building partnerships across the Institute and working with industry to implement large-scale climate solutions through her role as co-director of the MIT Climate and Sustainability Consortium (MCSC) and as faculty lead for PAIA, an industry consortium on the carbon footprinting of computing.
Restoring the atmosphere, protecting the land and oceans
This mission is centered on removing or storing greenhouse gases that have already been emitted into the atmosphere, such as carbon dioxide and methane, and on protecting ocean and land ecosystems, including food and water systems.
MIT has chosen two mission directors: Andrew Babbin and Jesse Kroll. The two bring together research expertise from two critical domains of the Earth system, oceans and the atmosphere, as well as backgrounds in both the science and engineering underlying our understanding of Earth’s climate. As co-directors, they jointly link MIT’s School of Science and School of Engineering in this domain.
Babbin is the Cecil and Ida Green Career Development Professor in MIT’s Program in Atmospheres, Oceans, and Climate. He is a marine biogeochemist whose specialty is studying the carbon and nitrogen cycle of the oceans, work that is related to evaluating the ocean’s capacity for carbon storage, an essential element of this mission’s work. He has been at MIT since 2017.
Kroll is a professor in MIT’s Department of of Civil and Environmental Engineering, a professor of chemical engineering, and the director of the Ralph M. Parsons Laboratory. He is a chemist who studies organic compounds and particulate matter in the atmosphere, in order to better understand how perturbations to the atmosphere, both intentional and unintentional, can affect air pollution and climate.
Empowering frontline communities
This mission focuses on the development of new climate solutions in support of the world’s most vulnerable populations, in areas ranging from health effects to food security, emergency planning, and risk forecasting.
The mission director is Miho Mazereeuw, an associate professor of architecture and urbanism in MIT’s Department of Architecture in the School of Architecture and Planning, and director of MIT’s Urban Risk Lab. Mazereeuw researches disaster resilience, climate change, and coastal strategies. Her lab has engaged in design projects ranging from physical objects to software, while exploring methods of engaging communities and governments in preparedness efforts, skills she brings to bear on building strong collaborations with a broad range of stakeholders.
Mazereeuw is also co-lead of one of the five projects selected in MIT’s Climate Grand Challenges competition in 2022, an effort to help communities prepare by understanding the risk of extreme weather events for specific locations.
Building and adapting healthy, resilient cities
A majority of the world’s population lives in cities, so urban design and planning is a crucial part of climate work, involving transportation, infrastructure, finance, government, and more.
Christoph Reinhart, the Alan and Terri Spoon Professor of Architecture and Climate and director of MIT’s Building Technology Program in the School of Architecture and Planning, is the mission director in this area. The Sustainable Design Lab that Reinhart founded when he joined MIT in 2012 has launched several technology startups, including Mapdwell Solar System, now part of Palmetto Clean Technology, as well as Solemma, makers of an environmental building design software used in architectural practice and education worldwide. Reinhart’s online course on Sustainable Building Design has an enrollment of over 55,000 individuals and forms part of MIT’s XSeries Program in Future Energy Systems.
Inventing new policy approaches
Climate change is a unique crisis. With that in mind, this mission aims to develop new institutional structures and incentives — in carbon markets, finance, trade policy, and more — along with decision support tools and systems for scaling up climate efforts.
Christopher Knittel brings extensive knowledge of these topics to the mission director role. The George P. Shultz Professor and Professor of Applied Economics at the MIT Sloan School of Management, Knittel has produced high-impact research in multiple areas; his studies on emissions and the automobile industry have evaluated fuel-efficiency standards, changes in vehicle fuel efficiency, market responses to fuel-price changes, and the health impact of automobiles.
Beyond that, Knittel has also studied the impact of the energy transition on jobs, conducted high-level evaluations of climate policies, and examined energy market structures. He joined the MIT faculty in 2011. He also serves as the director of the MIT Climate Policy Center, which will work closely with all six missions.
Wild cards
This mission consists of what the Climate Project at MIT calls “unconventional solutions outside the scope of the other missions,” and will have a broad portfolio for innovation.
While all the missions will be charged with encouraging unorthodox approaches within their domains, this mission will seek out unconventional solutions outside the scope of the others, and has a broad mandate for promoting them.
The mission director in this case is Benedetto Marelli, the Paul M. Cook Career Development Associate Professor in MIT’s Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. Marelli’s research group develops biopolymers and bioinspired materials with reduced environmental impact compared to traditional technologies. He engages with research at multiple scales, including nanofabrication, and the research group has conducted extensive work on food security and safety while exploring new techniques to reduce waste through enhanced food preservation and to precisely deliver agrochemicals in plants and in soil.
As Lester and other MIT leaders have noted, the Climate Project at MIT is still being shaped, and will have the flexibility to accommodate a wide range of projects, partnerships, and approaches needed for thoughtful, fast-moving change. By filling out the leadership structure, today’s announcement is a major milestone in making the project operational.
In addition to the six Climate Missions, the Climate Project at MIT includes Climate Frontier Projects, which are efforts launched by these missions, and a Climate HQ, which will support fundamental research, education, and outreach, as well as new resources to connect research to the practical work of climate response.
