And yet I firmly believe he does know its a doomsday cult and bad. That they're taking advantage of him and trying to con him but he's kinda just interested in seeing where this goes and if they have something cool in their narrative or is it just another buddishms told by white guys redux or lemuria cult bs telephoned down x4.

It's the apathy that absolutely does me in. Artists, bands, music industry people, shitposters on Instagram - everyone's been banging on about what a total shitshow Spotify is, has been and continues to be for a while now, and it's largely just been met with an almighty shrugging of shoulders, and carrying on, because 'well yeah, but I've got my playlists on there, and I like my Spotify wrapped!', despite the arms tech investments, despite the meagre royalties, despite the sacking of their editorial team, despite the [demonetizing any song lower than] 1,000 plays thing, despite the creaking tech that's full of bugs, despite the adding audiobooks so they could argue for an even *lower* royalty rate, despite the general cheapening and disconnection of music, despite the explosion of shitty AI slop, despite one man masquerading as many different artists being responsible for a huge royalty payout by juicing the system, despite the literal owner of the platform claiming that 'content' doesn't take any money to make these days, despite everything, despite all of that. But people just think it's a bit of fun. And you can scream it from the rooftops, but it's hard to snap people out of it. I mean, I'd understand if spotify was the only game in town, but it's clearly not - you've endless supplies of streamers if that's what you want. Hell, you could even just go back to buying things too, but if you want to keep streaming, you've so many other options - Tidal, Deezer, Apple, Bandcamp, Amazon, even fucking YouTube - it's not hard to just switch up. It's the weakest amount of pressure that's ever been applied to anyone's life, but people still seem so resistant, so hesitant to ditch it.

Until then we have implemented a quick-fix that adds a banner to the bottom of posts not from our own reality.

UPDATE: We have received word that there are some issues with the banner code that is causing some people to be incorrectly identified as being from an alternate universe while people that are actually from an alternate universe are not being labeled at all. For the time being we are removing the automatic banner system. Please use your own discretion and flag blogs you suspect are not from baseline reality, we will have somebody manually.

UPDATE 2: We have been informed that giving the ability to report alleged blogging activity from other universes to a website that thrives off of dedication to The Bit and lying as a joke is a very bad idea. We regrettably request that you enjoy the madness until we get this figured out. For those of you who are still getting banners at the end of your posts despite our attempts to kill the algorithm responsible for it, we are looking into it. Yes, we are very aware that the number of universes getting added into this chaos is growing exponentially. We hope to get this fixed up in a week.

The more persistent control you have over a device, the more you and the device adapt to each other, becoming a more effective group organism. The higher the input and output bandwidth of the interface (i.e., the greater the number of distinct ways you can interact with it / it can respond to you), the faster the system can adapt.

On a desktop computer, it's possible for a motivated 10 year old of average intelligence to progress from normal computer use to writing non-trivial application software for their own use within a couple years -- I am proof, & I'm far from alone.

Tablets are on the opposite end of the spectrum: simplified, locked down. The user does not collaborate with the tablet; instead, the tablet has only those affordances that channel the user's behavior into habits the developers of the tablet software consider desirable.

Mobile & web achieved the dream of proprietary software people: user-facing software that the user can't even disassemble because the important parts aren't accessible; since they did this through physical distance rather than the legal system, they can profit from other people's open source software too, circumventing many of the restrictions intended to keep improvements folded back into the community or to limit commercial use. But the side effect of this is that it gives professional computer touchers much more control over regular people's computers: not only can you not fix bugs in someone else's web app yourself, but you can't refuse to upgrade to a version that's a worse fit for your purposes. Where desktop computing encouraged the development of communities of amateur computer hobbyists who, together, would adapt or create alternatives to things that didn't work right (as well as creating lots of interesting, funny, unnecessary stuff that can only be classified as Art -- little games and toys, elaborate shitposts, weird mods and skins), mobile does not. The only thing you need to make your desktop computer do something brand new is a desktop computer, the software development tools & documentation that ship with the OS, and some free time -- you don't even need an internet connection; developing for web or mobile also functionally requires a desktop, on top of your mobile device for mobile (and if it's an iPhone you gotta have a Mac & pay Apple $99/year), & for web you need to pay for hosting and a domain name.

Think bedbugs and mosquitos and ticks but also bull sharks. People are animals with sufficient cognitive capacity to be capable of premeditated evil. Humans, dolphins, elephants.

Most lizards are of course lizards but the tegu is notably a dog.

Crows are people but most other birds are lizards.

I fuckin love worldbuilding. I used to be a lot more intentional when I was younger, like with a whole notebook dedicated to magic systems and religions and politics and then would build a story from what’s there. It would also bug me if I didn’t have every answer already figured out abt the world before I started writing. But then guess what? I never got very far into my writing lmao

So for the past two-three years I’ve leaned more towards a “I have a vibe and I just wing it”. There was a post I think on here that radically changed my mindset. Basically it said “you don’t have to explain everything because not everything is explained in real life” so yeah, I already hated exposition and now I just go from a character driven stand point instead of a setting inspired one. Characters are definitely my favorite part about writing— they’re very much a part of me shattered into a hundred pieces. I like getting into their minds and think like they do and just let them carry the plot. Now for a traditional book or novel, ehhh idk how well this works but for my erratic “write what you want when you want” shit that I’m on, it works.

Oh! Also I usually start writing from a vibe these days. Like I’ll see something— last night it was a car’s taillights being swallowed up as it drove up a hill— and Itll trigger some itch that u need to scratch, yk? I don’t think I’m a fantastic writer or anything, but I get invested into an idea and I’m like “shit now I have to do this” and it may take literal months to write it but eventually, it does

Rapture is a fallen angel who holds anger and religious trauma for the system. It has a feral demeanor, biting and scratching at people when it is unhappy. It does not like most people and has a low opinion of humanity. Rapture is an age regressor and a pet regressor, regressing to around 5-8 years old as well as a Doberman dog. Regression is usually a pleasant experience for them, but it sometimes has meltdowns expressed in a more childlike or animalistic way.
