So, I often talk about things that my grandfather does that I could see Tech doing, but this time I have something my dad does that I could see Tech doing.

My dad was and is always so involved when it came to our schoolwork, especially when it was a subject we were interested in. His dad wasn’t really around and wasn’t a great husband from what I’ve heard, so my dad has always taken being a father and husband VERY seriously (to him one of the worst things a man can be is a bad and/or absent father which is evident by what one of his favorite movie quotes is). A big part of this is him showing that he wants to be involved in things we’re excited about, but since he’s not an overly touchy-feely guy he does it in his own unique way. Two of the biggest examples I can think of is how I will mention a topic I’m learning about that is really interesting to me and then next thing I know he’s sending me every article he can find on that topic; another example is how when I mention a paper or project I completed or am working on that I’m excited about, he always asks to take a look at it and pretty much within the next twenty four hours he’s looked at it and sharing his thoughts, no matter how long it is. He did this even when I was away at college in a different state AND in a different time zone and even with my BA thesis.

This is just something I can really see Tech doing as a dad, since I feel we saw things like this in how he interacted with Omega. I can see him getting books for his kids on topics they’re interested in and trying to show them everything he can find about the topics. I can see him bringing his kids to museums, zoos, aquariums, etc. and just being excited to listen to his child and share in their excitement by asking questions and adding some thoughts of his own.

Idk I’m just really emotional lately and have a lot of feelings and thoughts right now 😭

Just played Beat Saber with my brother, so naturally I started thinking about how each member of the Bad Batch would do with it:

Hunter: his enhanced senses would make him practically unbeatable in the game, if the VR headset plus the overstimulating flashing lights and fast movement didn't give him massive headaches and vertigo within two seconds (that is, until Tech gets his hands on the headset long enough to add a setting that approximates Hunter's helmet, so all the input isn't as overwhelming). Regardless, he loves watching everyone else play too.

Tech: it's not his favorite pastime, but he has no objection to joining in when the rest of the family plays. Naturally he analyzes the game and somehow deciphers patterns so he always gets top scores.

Echo: he takes the game seriously. Like, almost scary seriously. Like, "battle face" seriously. Like, "everyone knows better than to talk while he's playing" seriously. But when his turn is done he'll pass the controllers over with a shrug and a casual "That was fun."

Wrecker: scores pretty well overall, especially considering that he's blind in one eye. SUPER enthusiastic about it, and try as he might he can never stay standing in one place (at least one item ends up broken every Beat Saber night, and Echo and Hunter have saved him more than once from plowing through the TV).

Crosshair: his sniper skills lend to his extreme precision with the game. At first, he pretended he wasn't interested, but by the end of the first Beat Saber night he and Wrecker are keeping track of how many wins they have over each other, and by the time the third night rolls around Crosshair is in open competition with each of the others.

Omega: she's the one who got her brothers into it, and she's just as enthusiastic as Wrecker, though she does manage to stay in one spot while playing. Though quite good at it, she rarely scores the highest, but she does start taking bets for Crosshair's competitions with the others and wins most of the bets (Tech is impressed).

BONUSES:

Phee: she's the one who got Omega into it, she's a natural at it, and she can give just about any of the others a run for their money.

Batcher: paces around and barks at the TV the entire time. Despite this she usually can stay out of the player's way, though one of the humans has to take up "Batcher duty" and keep her seated when Wrecker is playing, otherwise catastrophe is imminent.

I have a sneaking suspicion that Crosshair will always tell a different story about his hand when asked. Some that he's given:

Omega cut it off

Got cut off as punishment for trying to steal the Crown Jewels of Naboo

Knitting accident

Ventress ate it

Cooking mishap

A porg attack

Frostbite

Got caught in a rayshield

Slept on it weird and it just fell off

Cursed by a Nightsister witch from Dathomir

He cut it off himself to fake his own death

He broke it petting Batcher too hard

Lost a fight to a lawn chair

(Tech’s reason) He was tired of being the ‘more boring twin’ and had to be a pick me

(Echo’s reason) He wanted to be more like him.

(Hunter’s reason) He had such a crush on General Skywalker he did it to impress him

(Wrecker’s reason) He was trying to rescue a baby animal and it pooped on him, Crosshair was so disgusted he cut his hand off right there

Omega is the only one who tells the truth about it, and no one believes her cause it sounds just as crazy

Tech would have been so excited to take Phee’s last name

except the problem was, the rest of the Bad Batch took it, too.

It started with Omega. She was out shopping with Tech for one thing or other when he introduced himself as “Tech Genoa” and she just got so excited and bounced up and down and exclaimed, “And I’m Omega Genoa!” And it wasn’t really the time to correct her, except then Wrecker picked up on it and he got so excited because “that’s right, we get a last name now!!” And they just run around the house screaming “Omega Genoa” and “Wrecker Genoa” while a flabbergasted Tech tries to find a tactful way to explain that actually only he gets the last name.

Hunter and Echo of course know how the last name thing works, but they also thinks it’s hilarious, so they start using it, too. First just as a joke around the house, but then it just kinda starts to roll off the tongue, and admittedly, it’s kinda nice having two halves of a name instead of just one. Crosshair thinks the whole thing is absurd, until someone new in town asks him which family he belongs to and he just scoffs and says, “Genoa, obviously,” and he started using it after that.

And that is why Phee came home from an expedition two weeks later to see a hand carved sign on the front of the Batch’s door that reads “The Genoas” and an extremely exasperated but endeared Tech.

Some Bad Batch Headcanons

Tech snores like a dad

Wrecker actually is a quiet sleeper

Hunter does the bare minimum to care for his hair, like he uses hand soap for it, and it still looks amazing

Omega being born with a blonde mutation and not having any developmental issues led the Kaminoans to allowing more blond clone troopers to live to deployment

Wrecker is the one that initiates picking up and carrying Omega mostly because it is easier for him to keep an eye on her this way

Wrecker has lost Omega in crowds more than once because she is barely hip height to him in S1, couple that with little to no vision in one eye and a trashed ear, he struggles a little bit (hence the picking up and carrying)

Despite not liking regs, the Batch had a lot of respect for the 501st and drew many of their battle strategies from 501st tactics

Echo didn’t share much about his time with the 501st until Omega came around, this lead to multiple story times which had the whole bad batch circled around him listening and fangirling

Crosshair cannot see things close up, as his eyes were modified for long distance, he needs classes or contacts for reading things but refuses to wear glasses

That being said he will steal Tech’s goggles because they do help quite a bit

Given the choice, Omega will choose Wrecker’s bunk to sleep in over Hunter’s

This is due to A) Wrecker actually likes cuddling and barely moves in his sleep, B) she noticed that Hunter doesn’t sleep as well with someone else in his bunk

That doesn’t stop Hunter from pouting that she chooses Wrecker

Echo is really good at sparring after his ARC training, being down 3 limbs only motivated him to get back to his peak form as well as he could. He can and will put anybody in the Bad Batch (including wrecker) on their shebs

Tech is ordained and can officiate weddings (no one knows when he did this or why)

Average night on the Marauder

Hunter *tucking Omega in*: Goodnight, sleep tight. Don’t let the bed bugs bite. 

Tech: Technically, there would be no bed bugs. We just cleaned. Why do you think there are bed bugs?

Crosshair: Goodnight. Sleep tight, don’t let the monsters haunt you.

Wrecker: Monsters?

Omega: What monsters?

Echo *sighs*: There are no bed bugs, there are no monsters. Just go to bed. 

Wrecker: But what monsters?

Hunter: No monsters. 

Omega: Just bed bugs. 

Tech: Again, there should be no bed bugs. Have you seen signs of them?

Echo: All of you go to sleep

*Quiet for a minute* 

Wrecker: But why does Batcher always sleep with Crosshair? No fair, I wanna turn

Omega: She sometimes sleeps by me

Wrecker: No fair

Crosshair: She just likes me best

Tech: Technically, it may be because of Crosshair’s unresolved trauma. Dogs tend to know when humans are not alright. Although that may not be a good enough reason because many of us have unresolved issues. 

Hunter: Yes, thank you for calling us out Tech, now go to sleep

 *Quiet for another minute*

Omega: I need some water

Wrecker: I have to use the refresher

Tech: It is too hot in here to sleep. What temperature is the ship set at? This is not the optimal sleeping environment

Hunter: Do not touch the thermostat!

Echo: WOULD YOU GO TO SLEEP ALREADY?

Crosshair: Okay, mom.

Hunter is the DadTM Dad. He was born to Dad. He is the best Dad. His Dad energy is over 9000.

Wrecker is the Fun Dad who no one understands how he became a dad in the first place because he's practically still a kid too. The type of dad who uses ice cream withdrawal as punishment but then caves on the condition that the ice cream won't have sprinkles.

Echo is the Mature Dad who's so emotionally intelligent and has been through so much that he's just naturally nurturing, hence why he could even be considered a maternal figure.

Tech is the Academic Dad who believes knowledge is power and strives to give a child the best preparation possible in any aspect (books, knowing how to operate crucial machinery/ships, etc)

Crosshair is the Cool Dad who his kids get their sarcasm from. Believes in do as I say, not as I do. Is much worse than Hunter. Any means are justified so long as it's for the benefit of the Kid, such as intimidating a child trying to extort you for information.

I strongly headcanon that babies and toddlers LOVE Crosshair.

I have a headcanon. But first: story time!

I am the elder sister, and when my little sister was born I was about two and a half years old. So, not really cognizant lol. But! I do remember just one moment, an instant really, and that is sitting next to my dad and getting to hold the little twerp (affectionate) and kissing her on the forehead.

Now for the headcanon.

Omega was probably right around the same age (maybe a little older idk) when her little brothers, the OG Bad Batchers, were born. She was probably running around Nala Se’s lab all excited about there being more clones like her, about having brothers. So, the only way Nala Se could get her to settle down was by sitting her down and letting her hold one of them.

And she held Hunter first.

Omega filling Crosshair in on some highlights he missed, after they've finished their first meditation session

Omega: There was this one time Tech entered a riot race to save us from being indebted to a dangerous gangster, and Tech won.

Crosshair: unsurprised, Tech always was an adrenaline junkie and of course the squad would run into trouble with a gangster

Omega: Oh, did I tell you about the time we went with Phee to find treasure? The treasure turned out to be the kill switch to a weapon of mass destruction, so we had to leave it there after almost dying.

Crosshair: unsurprised, the squad itself used to be a weapon of mass destruction, but of course they wouldn't be able to keep their hands on any treasure

Omega: I learned what flirting is by watching Phee talk to Tech. Tech couldn't do it well himself, but we all knew he liked her.

Crosshair: raised eyebrows, but... uh, actually, come to think of it, he could kinda see Tech having a girlfriend; he'd be more surprised if it were Hunter with a girlfriend, seeing as how Hunter is completely oblivious to anyone paying that kind of attention to him

Omega: So... Fennec, that bounty hunter Wrecker and Hunter are going to meet? We first met her on Pantora, I accidentally got lost when I ran after a puppy right after Hunter sold Echo to a shop owner...

Crosshair: [slamming open the door barging into the Marauder and glaring at Hunter the moment he and Wrecker return from space-Florida] YOU SOLD ECHO???!?

....

Hunter: Look, we really needed the credits and Echo wasn't going to stay there forever.

Crosshair: You told me a real leader protects his squad!

Hunter: That's what I was doing!

Crosshair: By selling Echo??

Echo [was in the middle of getting updated on the Fennec stuff via holotransmission and is still on the call]: It's fine, Crosshair. What's done is done. That was a long time ago.

Crosshair: Well, at least tell me they got 10,000 credits for you!

Echo: crossing his arms and joining Crosshair in staring Hunter down

Hunter: sighs

Wrecker: eating popcorn in the background, passes the bucket over to Omega when she shows up

Omega introducing her date to the batch:

Date: "Hello, Nice to finally meet Omega's Family. Hunter: “Just show her respect and treat her right and you’ll be fine.” Wrecker: “if you need food recommendations, let me know. Omega loves trying new things.” Tech: “In addition to new foods, new sights and activities would be nice. She is very active in all senses of the word.” Echo: “Heh, yeah. Honestly good luck keeping up with her.” Date: “And I assume you’re the one who’s going to intimidate me and tell me to keep my hands to myself?” Crosshair: *scoff* “Oh, Omega can take care of herself. I was going to warn you about her cause I didn’t listen to her once and look what happened.” *shows stump* “And I’m her brother, so what do you think she’ll do to you?”

Date: 😳😰 Omega: "Don't listen to him. That was done by a brainwashed clone assassin back at the rise of the Empire. He just has a terrible sense of humor about it.” Crosshair: “Sounds like something a guilty person would say.”

- Echo still can't sleep well. He either suffers from insomnia, or from pain, or from nightmares.

- When Echo has nightmares, he hides his face in his pillow. Nobody really knows why. Everyone agreed that he doesn't realize where he is when he sleeps, which means that he cannot feel safe.

- Actually, it's true. But deep down, Echo also doesn't want anyone to see him like this - trembling and crying.

- PTSD is a topic that no one brings up. He is afraid of medical equipment, syringes, droppers, droids... The creak of a rubber glove is worse than death.

- No matter how strong he may seem, the complexes follow him like a shadow. Echo hates each of his implants, he is annoyed by the reflection in the mirror. Whitened skin, dark circles around the eyes, gray-yellow iris. "Looks like I'm dead," he jokes. But everyone knows that this is not a joke.

- Hunter says being able to kick someone with an iron foot is cool. Omega sometimes sticks stickers on prostheses. Echo is still beautiful no matter what he thinks.

- Even if he can't convince himself of this, Echo remains incredibly grateful to the guys for their support. He removes the stickers only when they are completely worn out.

- Omega will always find more.

- Wrecker always succumbs to him in arm wrestling. He is definitely a great actor. Echo still didn't quite understand. Yes, definitely.

- Echo sleeps peacefully when someone hugs him. This duty, without any hesitation, took Tech.

- Sometimes it happens that they stop somewhere to rest a little, and then it happens that the team has to be woken up in the morning, otherwise they can oversleep until the evening. Of course, this is what Echo does. He turns up his favorite songs so that they can be heard throughout the Marauder.

Bonus: Echo was the first person Crosshair not only allowed himself to hug, but hugged back.

Clone Force 99 (+ Howzer) S/O Cutting Hair to Escape

Random idea of the boys having an s/o with long hair and needing to cut it to escape. No this isn’t me projecting because I have long hair. Not at all. No projection here.

Tw: Gender neutral (I try to be inclusive of all readers), violence, hair cutting with knife, threats, brief mention of death, all of the boys being sweeties tbh

“Are you willing to listen to my terms now?!” The Twi’lek had her fingers in your hair, pulling tightly. It hurt, badly. And she wasn’t alone. There were a couple of other criminals around. All their own blasters were pointed at either you or the man you loved.

You swallowed, staring directly at your lover. His blaster was steady. He had good aim, but was he confident enough to take the shot with you so close?

You had a knife, but the armor the twi’lek criminal wore was too thick.

But your hair wasn’t. In one swift movement, you slice the strands of hair she had gripped so tightly. Once you had ripped yourself away, taking her off guard, your lover took the shot.

Hunter

Once you’re in his arms safe and the threat has been taken care of, he’s pissed. Not at you, but at the fact that this happened to begin with. His senses should have detected the threat and he should have protected you. Instead, you nearly got hurt because he was distracted.

If you’re super upset about your hair, he’s going to try and be reassuring. You still look amazing to him, but he understands if your hair is important to you for whatever reason. He’ll wipe away any tears and just offer comfort for such a loss. Yea, it grows back sure, but that’s doesn’t mean it’s any less important to you.

Hunter will struggle to look at you for a while. Not because he thinks your impromptu haircut is ugly, he just blames himself for what happened. He feels guilty he let something like this happen and It reminds him that he failed you.

Even though he’s upset with himself that he allowed this to happen, he’s so understanding and comforting to you.

Echo

He’s gonna fret over you and make sure you’re not physically hurt. He’s apologizing for letting this happen and not thinking of something to get you out of the clutches of a criminal. Like Hunter, he feels some guilt over what happened.

Once he knows you’re alright, then he’s gonna be heart broken for you and your hair.

He loves your hair. He loves playing with it. And he knows how it’s important to you. Even if hair grows back, he knows what it’s like to have a part of you taken. So he won’t judge your tears or emotions over having to cut your hair in such a way.

He’ll hold you and comfort you, giving soft reassurances.

Though, once your hair does grow back, he’s gonna suggest maybe tying your hair up to prevent something like this happening again.

Tech

He’s panicking until he knows you’re alright. He checks you over for any wounds and once he sees that you’re not hurt, he’ll hold you close.

He kisses your forehead and doesn’t even comment on your hair. To him, you just did a very clever move to get away from a criminal. It’s a shame about the hair, but you’re alright and that’s what matters.

Tech isn’t unsympathetic, he just won’t fully know you’re upset until you say something. He’ll offer what comfort he can but he might not entirely understand why you’re upset. It’s just hair, and even if he finds your hair beautiful, it’ll grow back.

You’ll probably have to explain why your hair is important and why losing that large amount of it upsets you. Once you explain, he becomes more sympathetic. Later, he’s going to do some research for way to potentially help your hair grow faster.

While your hair is in the process of growing back he also researches ways to take care of it. Like special oils, soaps etc. he’s a sweetie that way.

Wrecker

Might be more emotional than you, to be honest. Like Echo and Hunter, he’s upset you were grabbed by a criminal. But the fact that you had to cut your hair to get free? He’s beyond upset.

He is in despair. Wrecker loves your hair so much. He loves to play with it. Help you style it. He even learned to braid just so he could braid your hair (and Omega’s)

As your hair is growing back, he pretty much showers you in compliments. He knows how much your hair means to you and he’s gonna do his best to make up for what happened.

Even when it’s short he’s still gonna play with it to be honest.

Crosshair

He holds you so so tightly when you’re free. Crosshair will be shaking so badly. His emotions hit him waves. First was fear. Then relief.

Then rage. Absolute rage.

You’re his love. And you were in danger. You were forced to destroy something important to you in order to get free.

He’d feel useless. Like he failed you spectacularly. And now you were forced to cut your hair because he was too slow to react.

His anger over your hair is in connection to how you feel about it to be honest. If you’re emotional over the loss, he’s out for blood against the entire criminal group that did this. But if, say, you’re minimally upset and move on quick, so does he.

You wore it long because you liked it long. So he liked it.

But, bright side, if you end up liking your hair shorter, he likes it too.

It’s your hair. So how you like it, he likes it. He’s a pretty simple guy like that.

Howzer

Surprisingly calm. Once you’re free, he’s holding you in one arm and using the other to shoot down the other criminals. Once they’re down, his focus is on you.

He’ll pet your hair and feel where it was unceremoniously chopped off. After a second he apologizes so softly for being unable to help you.

However, he won’t directly say anything about your hair other than ask how you’re feeling. If you’re upset, he’ll hug you, and reassure you that it’ll grow back. It just takes time.

To him, he honestly prefers shorter hair just on the basis of it being more practical for battle, but if you like your hair long, just like Echo, he suggests tying it up or styling it in a way that’s more battle friendly. He’ll even help you with it.

Bonus:

Omega (platonic obv)

She’s going to cut her hair. She sees her brother’s lover sad over their chopped up hair? Welp, you’re not the only one who had their strands butchered by a knife.

I’d imagine her brother and you return to the Marauder with cut up blonde strands littering the floor and her looking so proud with her….new look.
