Does a USB drive get heavier as you store more files on it?
Nope. Paradoxically (and theoretically), the more you save on a flash drive, the lighter it gets.
USB drives use Flash memory, which means the the ones and zeros of the data are stored on transistors.
When you save data, a binary zero is set by charging the float gate of the transistor, and a binary one is set by removing the charge.
To charge it, we add electrons, and the mass of each electron is 0.00000000000000000000000000091 grams.
This means that an empty USB drive (which mostly holds zeros) weighs more than a full USB drive (which has ones and zeros). Add data, reduce the weight.

Tech Magick's Biggest Gift:
Minecraft
Tumblr media
Witchcraft is all about intention, THAT is the most important thing. The tools we use are just conduits for that intention. While we are sure we all love the witchy aesthetic and proper traditional tools, that is not always viable. Some witches are in the closet, others may not be able to afford all the tools (it adds up rather quickly). So we came up with a clever way to practice witchcraft to our heart's content!
Altars
Tumblr media
First let's create our space! Altars are something that can be hard to have IRL. They take up a lot of space and cost money to decorate. So why not do it in Minecraft?
In item frames go ahead and place an item that represents each element. Feel free to get creative with it! Luckily Minecraft added candles so you can use those instead of torches! You can even color the candles for color magick (before hand we just used Minecraft Education Edition and used their colored touches). Make sure to also have a bell for cleansing. For cleansing ingredients you may also want a cauldron with a fire under it.
Ingredients
Tumblr media
Luckily Minecraft has a LOT of ingredients! There's amethyst, quartz, lavender. All very basic ingredients. And the ingredients you don't have you can make!
Tumblr media
Simple rename an item that looks similar with an anvil! For example this emerald is now a jade. You can also install mods to expand your item options.
Spells
To make a spell jar grab a chest and throw them in! Feel free to label the chest with a sign so you can keep track.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You could also throw the ingredients into a cauldron if it's more of a stove spell.
Sigil spells are also possible! You can make pixel art of the sigil. Unfortunately these end up needing to be quite big, not easy to fit in a virtual house.
Tumblr media
You can also use a book and quill! You can use the book as a book of shadows. Or you could write a petition and burn it.
Familiars! Contrary to popular belief a familiar does NOT have to be a living thing! It can be an object or really anything. So why not may it also be a piece of code?
Tumblr media
You can also do tarot in Minecraft. This requires some knowledge on redstone. You can take pieces of paper and name them as cards from a tarot deck. Then put them in a redstone randomizer and boom, shuffled deck. We suck at redstone so we've never actually built this one.
Tumblr media
Conclusion
There's probably SO much more you could do here, but these are just a few of our ideas! I hope it was able to kick start some people's imaginations and also help those in the broom closet or on a budget!

Technomancy 101
Hi, friends! I'm back with another witchy FAQ from the past couple weeks. This time from the world of tech magic!
Here are some quick TL;DR technomancy tips for those who may not want to read the long FAQs post beneath the cut:
1. Chest spells (like a jar spell but with a chest filled with in game items that match the intent)
2. Poppet spells using the game characters by giving them items or altering their names/appearances
3. Similar to a chest spell but not necessarily magic per se - using chests or sheds with in-game items as altars and/or offerings
4. Build a shrine / altar / temple with offerings, or leave an item such as a torch in the game world as an offering
5. Burn/bury/destroy ingredients to activate a spell with the desired effect
6. Write an affirmation or a spell on a sign or other in-game item and destroy it to activate as a sigil
7. Build a golem or animal pen or something as a servitor for protection
8. Use some form of sympathetic magic connecting in-game items to IRL items
9. Light sticks, flashlights, plastic lightsabers, and toy sonic screwdrivers make *awesome* wands, especially if they light up and make noise.
10. The possibilities are limited to your imagination!!
Tumblr media
(I am choosing Wittgenstein from The Brave Little Toaster movies as my mascot for tech magic, simply because I like him and because I can. Image credit - Fandom Wiki.)
What is technomancy?: Technomancy, techno magic, and tech magic are all terms for a form of magic that utilizes common modern technology, such as smartphones and video games. Technically, “technomancy” could refer specifically to divination with technology; however, in my experience, the term usually has a broader meaning in common usage. I personally tend to use these terms interchangeably, with perhaps a slight preference for technomancy, since I learned that name first.
What are some forms of technomancy?: Common forms of technomancy include digital sigils, emoji spells, shufflemancy, video game spells, and video game altars.
How do I create a digital sigil?: The ways are about as unlimited as creating a physical sigil on paper. You can use a drawing app on a smartphone or tablet, find a digital sigil generator online, use a photo editor on a picture, or even add a string of charged letters to an email signature (just make sure they blend in!).
OK, and what's the deal with emoji spells?: Yes, this is an actual thing (though not a thing that I'm particularly experienced with). They're pretty straightforward. They can be done like a sigil - string emojis together and charge them. Or like an actual spell - put them together and send to cast, or like to charge and send/reblog to cast.
What kind of games can you use for technomancy?: Any of them. Minecraft is a very popular one. So is Stardew Valley. Skyrim and other RPGs are other common choices. As with other forms of magic, the only real limit is your imagination.
What kind of spells can you cast in a game?:
Chest spells - like digital jar spells - are very common.
Poppet spells are another common choice. In games that allow you to create a character, or in games where you can give items to an NPC, you can turn the character into a poppet of someone and give them an item to cast the spell. For example, if I wanted emotional strength, I could create a Skyrim character as a poppet for myself, and have the character drink a strength potion to cast a spell of strength for myself in the real world.
Burying or burning items in games like Minecraft can be done to cast spells that are similar to physical spells that require burning a paper, bay leaf, or other ingredient.
Enchanting! Use the enchanting function in a video game like Skyrim or Minecraft to enchant a physical object. For example, you might choose to connect a physical scarf to a shield in Skyrim, and when you enchant the in-game shield with a damage resistance effect, voila! You now have a fancy enchanted scarf to protect yourself from spiritual attacks.
Customize your avatar to your advantage! In games such as Sky: Children Of The Light, where you can accessorize your character, you can equip different items to cast a different spell on yourself. For example, you might use the Saluting Captain's staff as a cosmetic to cast a spell of protection on yourself, or you could use a particular cape as a spiritual veil.
For deity work & spirit work, consider creating a space in your game (e.g. a chest, shed, home, biome, character, etc.) dedicated to the entities you work with. For example, temples and altars in Minecraft are common. Devotional sheds and chests are popular in Stardew Valley. I’ve named some appropriate Pokemon after an entity or dedicated the critter to them. You can even place a torch or candle in the game world as an offering.
There are lots more out there, too! This list is a starting point, not a limitation. Use your imagination and swap ideas with others, too!
How exactly does all of this work?? How is it possible?!: OK, so the principle behind tech magic is that you're harnessing the energy of multiple sources.
First, the device itself (and if you're using something like a Switch, the cartridge or other physical media). Each of these items has its own materials - electricity, glass and metal, etc. And each of those materials has a magical property that you can use... Glass and metal come from the Earth and have their own correspondences, while electricity is pure energy in itself.
Second, you have the energy of symbolism, or as I like to think of it with a butchered sociology term, symbolic interactionism - i.e., the idea that we create our own reality (or our *perception* of reality) via symbols. In other words, the power of correspondences! A candle is still a candle whether it's physical or digital. Lapis lazuli has the same qualities in this world that it does in a pixelated version. And so forth. So when you use the correspondences in digital spell work, provided that you raise the energy, it can and does have real world consequences. Similar to doing magic in the astral as opposed to the physical world... you are making a conscious decision to connect a digital item to an effect either in the astral and/or physical worlds.
Finally, you're also harnessing the power of belief and the energy of attention, which is where the chaos magic concepts start to come in. The digital worlds are real because you believe they are and you pour parts of your energy and personality into them - and so do *millions* of other people, in many cases. All of that energy is sort of like a reservoir in these games and it's just waiting to be harvested for spell work!
So… This is another subset of chaos magic, then.: Pretty much, yes. I haven't seen it categorized as anything else yet, except for in those cases where technomancy is given its own category.
And what did you mean by “energy of symbolism” again?: Correspondences. Both traditional ones and your own. For example, obsidian corresponds with protection IRL. So if you were making a chest spell in Minecraft for protection, you'd want to consider adding an obsidian block to your spell. Some of this is also stuff that you can brainstorm on your own and explore! Like for example, in the Elder Scrolls series, there are several plants and items that don't exist IRL, such as the corkbulb root - but in the game, that item can be used to make a potion of healing, so for me, it has a healing correspondence. Also, if the game you’re playing has spells already, you can consider how to adapt those spells to affect the real world in a logical, realistic way! Many pop culture magicians have done a great job of turning Pokemon moves into real spells, for example. So feel free to play around (pun intended) and see what works best for you!
How come you only mentioned shufflemancy once in this whole entire post??: That, my friend, needs to be a post for a later date. I assure you, I absolutely can (and probably already have, and probably eventually will) write an entire post about shufflemancy.
How come your formatting is crap?: Because I wrote all of this on a smartphone and pieced it into a post with the mobile app. Bear with me. XD
Where do I learn more and fact check you, smarty-pants?: Tumblr. The answer is usually Tumblr for this kind of thing. Or sometimes Discord. Like pop culture magic, techno magic is simply very new. Some tags to search include tech magic, techno magic, technomancy, video game magic, etc.

🪐 WITCH TIP 🪐
(this is one post in a mini-series about witchy apps i use)
In my craft, I like to use planetary hours. Partly because it feels like a nice boost to my spells when I do them in the hour of the planet with corresponding… correspondences, lol, and partly because I have executive dysfunction and putting a time limit on when to start or finish a spell by helps me out a lot!!
Planetaro is the app I’m gonna talk about in this post, because its main function is about what planetary hour we’re in! Now, I could always google it and search for a good website, but there’s a reason I like to use this app instead.
If you’re interested in using planetary hours but don’t know what each planet represents, you can flip a switch in settings so it’ll tell you the planet’s correspondences
It has widgets. Yes, yes, widgets again, I love them a lot. Home screen and lock screen! The widgets I use from this app not only tell me what planetary hour we’re in and when it started and will stop, but also the sun rise and set, the planet that rules the current day, and the order of what planets will rule the next few hours!
AND, listen here guys: you can choose the color of most of the widgets, AND the app itself. I appreciate this so much lol, since I love to keep a certain color scheme on my phone. It offers a custom gradient, but you can also just make both colors the same if you want a solid color.
All the info I listed in the second bullet point is also in-app, ofc.
It tells you the planetary hours of the whole day in-app, and for any other day you choose! You can go in the calendar and pick a day if you want to plan ahead, or if your curious about what it was during a spell you casted already.
You can turn on notifications for when the planetary hour changes/when the hour is ruled by a specific planet. I’ve used this so that I’d get a notif when I should start a spell or blow out a candle or smth
It also gives you tips of good things to do based on the planetary hour, and I don’t just mean magical. I personally don’t use this feature, but it could be fun!!
This app is entirely free aside from a few widgets that you’d have to purchase—but there are other free widgets with the same amount of info on them anyway!
Yeah I can’t think of any downsides for this app. It’s great! I’m very glad I found it!
Tumblr media
This is the app on iphone! Again, idk if its on other devices.
Hope this helps out someone else as much as it has me, or inspired someone to try out using planetary hours in their craft!

Small Art Magick things I do 🎨
Digital art edition (with some that can apply to traditional art as well!)
Drawing sigils in unseen layers (I either add another layer above them or lower their opacity, never completely deactivate the enchanted layers)
Drawing animals, plants or symbols associated with deities
Drawing deities in my style
Creating a digital altar. I do one layer for each object on the altar, and change/remove/replace them whenever needed
Creating illustrations for my grimoire or book of shadow. I then recreate or print them in my "physical grimoire", or use them in a digital one
Creating illustrated recipes for some kitchen magic or spells
Creating some kinds of "mandalas", using specific colours and symboles depending on my intentions. This one is also very soothing and I also just do it as way to meditate
✩₊˚.⋆☾⋆⁺₊
Meditating before drawing/while taking breaks to focus more easily
Having my "creativity jar spell" next to me
Using a pencil case of a specific colour to set my intentions more clearly
Lighting a candle while drawing, either one with a certain colour or a certain scent
Putting on music while drawing (a playlist for the mood I'm in/want to get into, or for the mood of my illustration...), or sometimes just ambiance sound videos

Assorted Tips For Setting Up Your Spell Farm Pt 1
Tumblr media
Been making a lot of progress on my current spell farm while laid up with food poisoning. Some of these are quality of life focused, some of these are related to my actual spellcasting process.
(disclaimer that as always, anything directly magic-related may not work for you the same way they work for me!)
If you want an off-farm area to set up shop (or if you've started a new file and everything is kind of an overflowing mess), try working out of the backwoods north of the farm. Nobody ever walks through any part of that zone so you can do most things without worrying about pathing conflicts.
Torches are super, super useful if you're doing work that requires a long term power or light source. Similarly, campfires and braziers are great if you need one that can be turned off and on again.
if you have a dedicated spellcrafting building, keep a chest or two inside with stuff you find you're using frequently.
I've found I can use fences, gates, and paths to direct energy—paths can direct it somewhere specific, gates can allow controlled access or serve as a power switch, and fences can act as a barrier
if you want a sigil that'll be destroyed when you're done with it, use the hoe to dig your design into the dirt somewhere off the farm before you go to bed.
if you're big on sound cleansing, the Singing Stone and/or Flute and Drum blocks might be good things for you to have on your farm.

Minecraft Witchcraft
So, I decided to dip my toe into a bit of tech magic, and use my newest obsession hobby to do it: minecraft!
Tumblr media
This is my new witchy house! Inside is an elevator down to a much larger space that I will be working on.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Entrance room with a shrine for wisdom and magic. I used blue candles, books, and an oak sapling for wisdom and knowledge. And purple candles, the enchantment table, and amethyst cluster for magic. One bookcase is empty, I'm planning on filling that with books where I record my spells, affirmations, etc.
Tumblr media
An eternal pool outside, made with yellow froglights and yellow glazed terracotta. This one will be for gathering Sunwater. I will be making a pool to collect Moonwater on the other side.
That's what I got so far! I am loving this process <3

Poll for folks to who do and/or request shufflemancy readings, since I'm doing a Shufflemancy Theory Test and I'm curious. No option for "I don't do shufflemancy/see results" because I don't want to skew the poll too far!! Please don't click "other" if you don't do/haven't done shufflemancy! (Folks who request shufflemancy readings but don't do readings themselves are 100% encouraged to answer!)
Reblogs appreciated for reach, even if you don't do shufflemancy yourself!

Spell Book - Scrap Book
Witchcraft On A Budget
Here we are once again providing some more budget friendly ideas for witches on a budget!
Ingredients for spells can be expensive to say the least. Is it best for your spell to have natural real ingredients? Sure, but it's not the only way to do magick.
Sigils are mostly about intent. And intent is free! You can literally just make sigils on your phone while focusing on your intent and call it a day.
But let's make it more artsy and add some more "ingredients" to these spells!
Here are two pages from our spell book!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
On each page is:
An emoji spell
A sigil
An intention
A crystal
A plant
Words written in color magick
Each aspect relates back to the intention. The intention is used to create the sigil and emoji spell (another free intention based spell). The words are written in colors (research color magick) that correspond to what fit your spell best. The plant and crystal should be researched so you can find what ingredients works best for your intention. Again, natural stuff is ideal but not everyone has access! Use these printed ingredients to help focus your intent and help signify to the universe what you need.
If you don't have a printer, you can make a digital spell book by keeping a collection of collages! Personally, our favorite collage app is LiveCollage. There is a free and paid version but the free one still has a lot of features! The idea is the exact same except on a screen and not a book.
Tumblr media
Of course, you can add whatever you want to your spell book! It's your craft. This is just how we like to do it and we thought it'd be fun to share! We want everyone who wants to practice to be able to do so without the stress of money!
Are we able to call ourself a printer witch?

🃏 WITCH TIP 🃏
(this is one post in a mini-series about witchy apps i use)
Ok, honestly, I’ve never been much of a tarot user. The app Labyrinthos, though, has started to change that a bit!
I can do readings on my phone, which was super helpful before I got my first tarot deck, and is still helpful when I’m in public
Even with a tarot deck its helped me determine the meanings of my cards. I love that you can use this app alongside a physical deck!
I love that it has those quizzes so you can really be taught what each tarot card means! Upright AND reversed
It also has these quizzes for moon phases, zodiac signs, and even the planets?? and more astrology stuff (but I’m not a big astrologer)! I’m just realizing this now actually haha thats so cool??
It’s got a variety of spreads and even a free-form option if you just wanna do things randomly or however feels best
You can also create and save your own spreads
You can specify in settings if you don’t want to use the full deck, for example if you just want to use major arcana and court cards, etc
You can also use NOT JUST TAROT, but other decks like lenormand!
You can also choose from a few options which digital deck you wanna use
There’s the option to ask an AI to interpret your cards for you in exchange for some coins. Never used it, but it’s there.
You can save your readings along with notes so you can remember them or look back on them later
This is all free. There’s more in the premium version, but I’ve never felt the need to use it
It’s a pretty awesome app!! I guess the only downside would be that you need to make an account with an email, which could be possibly bothersome if youre closeted? Not really ime tho.
Tumblr media
This is the app on iphone! I do know for a fact that it’s available to android users too on the google play store, so enjoy!!
