book review (the book my theme is based on)

"you don't get to choose if you get hurt in this world, old man, but you do have some say in who hurts you. i like my choices. i hope she likes hers."

as a person who takes hating books with sad endings very seriously, i'll have you know, this book wasn't just sad— it was tragic.

...and i read it twice.

why tragic, exactly? because john green gives you hope. he takes your breath away and makes your heartache only to return it all back to normal once again, to make you believe all is well. and then in the blink of an eye— everything sours up once more and you're in tears.

and i want to hate the book so, so bad for it— but i can't. which is exactly what makes it such a timeless masterpiece.

if you're looking for a tragic, yet well-written, romance about a metaphor-loving boy and an adjectively-and-literally-unique girl, who also happen to be fighting cancer. This book is for you.

but if this doesn't sound appealing, read it anyway. for me. pls.

I fucking love fandom culture.

I love how I can be absolutely obsessed with a show, a book, a YouTube channel and there will be hundreds of others just like me freaking out over the same dumb shit.

I love how happy fandoms can make me, scrolling through fanart and reading fanfics until my eyes blur at 3am.

I love how I can determine parts of my life by what I was obsessed with at the time. How those fandoms made me feel, what they taught me, what they got me through.

I love that I can look around my flat and see evidence of all my past and present obessions, from signed posters to collectable box sets, figures and books.

I love how I can come back to a fandom after years and pick up where I left off, finding joy in catching up on everything I've missed out on.

I fucking love fandom culture.
