inside: I like yfm bc the main vocalist, Puff Puff, sings in an articulate voice that I can actually understand. I'm not kidding this is the first band I've liked where I never have to search up a lyric video because I can understand their music so clearly, even without headphones.

You don't understand as someone who struggles to understand dialogue with the tiniest bit of background noise this is literally revolutionary for me, the inflections in his voice and how clear it is is also very satisfying for me. Even with lyrics I couldn't understand just by audio I'm able to understand by the visuals of the animation, allowing me to infer what the lyrics were without me having to open captions. And that's another thing, the animated music videos help keep my attention if the sick beats didn't already do that for me. It helps that the videos often visualize the lyrics almost literally, which further helps in understanding what the song is about.

Jazz gets better with every appearance and I'm delighted he gets focus even after a ton of new characters are introduced

literally who liked the original S1 Transformers theme enough for it to become iconic and even bring it back

the singing is off-tune, the song is missing a line to space it out well, and everyone rushes like they spent too long on a lyric or ran out of breath but the music follows them which means someone intentionally wrote it like this and they should answer for their crimes against the concept of sound

this show literally invents new animation errors on the fly

my mom was born in 1974 so she grew up with G1 and she told me this was all they had in a slot on Saturdays so I'm convinced this show just tricked kids into liking it via Stockholm syndrome

it almost got Sage

but the S2 theme slaps and I vogue to it

I just want to say it's been delightful watching you get into One Piece. It's been one of my main fandoms for years, but most of the people I was following who posted about it moved on to other things and I didn't have the energy to try to find new ones, so my dash has been pretty empty of it and I mostly just kept up with the anime/manga and not much else. Your enthusiasm for it, and all the art you've been posting and reblogging, has been a highlight of my days. I have a One Piece fanfic I've been trying to finish for years, and I've felt more like writing it in the past week or so than I have in a very long time (haven't actually managed it yet, but maybe soon, I hope). Also the intro to Celestial Dragons and slave trade is so. Man. This is VILE. The extent of horrors the Government will look away from because they’re Celestial Dragons doing the horrors. AUGH. Gross. The situation is revealed in a really neat way too, very engaging. Sooooo satisfying watching Luffy full on punch one CD in the face tho, BLESS. Love that funky lil dude. He really doesn’t care who you are, he can and WILL punch you if friends are threatened.

I'm curious. Because personally, while I did make and share an AI Cover for Prussia, I have been questioning the legitimacy of this practice ... I have made several covers, actually, but I've been reluctant to share them because yes, the ethical dilemma has been whispering to the back of my mind. I have even thought of a little voiceover experiment, but besides it being very time consuming for me (the software to separate voice from bg music/noise is not even compatible with my pc lol), I have been kind of tormented by the potential consequences.

And I've been wondering about Hetaloid/UTAU as well. While at first glance UTAU covers (despite the name, most Hetaloid stuff is actually made with UTAU) may seem not too different of a practice than AI covers, thinking more in depth about it, I believe there's a difference in craftsmanship.

AI covers are 80% self-made. Yes, they need human input (you have to build a voicebank, in case no one else did it for you), but it is minimal. Once a voice data has been uploaded, AI will do the rest: it will train itself, then you simply tell it which song you want the voice to "sing" (replace og vocals with selected voice model). And then, if you're unlucky, you have to make some editing to make it sound smoother and cut away the parts where AI couldn't tell music and voice apart effectively. It is extremely easy.

On the other hand, UTAU needs a lot more human assistance. If you don't have a voicebank ready to use, you have to manually pick each syllable, each sound the voice produces in order for the software to replace og vocals (which exist in specific formats and aren't just a youtube link or .wav file to slap into a typing bar) with them, and these covers require a lot of skill to actually sound good. And yet, even when they're spotless, they still have the iconic robotic feel to them. The robotic vibe is there to remind you all that this isn't real, this is something someone put hours if not days of their time into, to make it possible.

In this sense, isn't UTAU/Hetaloid more similar to a fanart than AI? It does make use of content the author doesn't directly own (characters and ideas for artists, voices in the other case), but that metallic feel in the voices always remind us this is a derivative work and not an attempt at replacing the source.

I am aware that voice actors typically aren't too fond of UTAU/Vocaloid voicebanks either when taken without their consent, but this was more a reflection on the nature of AI versus voice synthesizers and whether or not you believe they should be considered the same thing/equally dangerous and potentially harmful to the VAs or not.

aaaanyway the tone is a bit whiny for me, which is something i have with a lot of ballads, so it's nothing to do with louis or this specific song. but i gotta say - the emotion here is giving cherry, in the i-am-singing-about-how-i-care-but-i-just-want-to-sing-a-pretty-song-about-heartbreak-really kinda way. i'm sorry but his cover of look after you is more touching

the ending, with the variation and strings, really make up for a lot that i don't like about the song so by the end i'm always like AH I DO LIKE !!! MAGNITUDE IN MUSIC !! but. when it starts i usually wanna skip ngl.
