Film & TV I Think About A Lot » Eve's Bayou (1997) dir. Kasi Lemmons
"When I was your age, before I ever did the counseling, I could look at people, complete strangers, and see their whole lives so clear. But when I looked at each of my husbands, I never saw a thing. That's how it always is. Blind to my own life."

Kung Fu Panda 4 Review
Ok, I saw the movie yesterday and I have some thoughts. I think the film is good, but no where near the level of the first two. It's more like the third tonally. But tbf, nothing can top the second film in my opinion. KFP 2 really stepped up in its depth both in terms of its villain and message. The fourth film is very much the opposite. It's also very predictable and you can easily figure out what was gonna happen pretty early on.
What I liked: the animation is still gorgeous. Seriously, there were some very visually pleasing shots. The character models all looked great and I thought it was cool how the villain still has scales when she transforms. The music is also really nice and fun to listen to. The voice acting was also good and I thought Awkafina did a good job (major step up from Scuttle).
Po's dads were also really fun when on screen. It's nice to see them bond over Po and they do work well off of each other. They were the best part of the film, animation aside. The villain is also pretty cool with her abilities. We will talk about her more in a bit. And I did like Zhen and I'm looking forward to see what they do with her in the future. She's energetic and I did like her design.
What I didn't like: too. much. comedy. Ok look, I know this is an animated film for kids, but what made the first three films (particularly the second one) so good is that the balanced the jokes with depth. This film does have some messages, but it's intercut with so many jokes during dialogue that it takes away from it. They really needed to let this film breathe and have more serious moments to just talk and let things sink in. The villain brought back the old villains and stole their abilities (this was in trailer so not really spoiler). Why don't they do more with that? There is so much untapped potential here.
And that's my other big issue with the film: so much potential. Some of the ideas in this film are really, really good, but they only scratch the surface with it. I wanted to know more about the villain. I wanted to see our fave villains interact more. I wanted to see the villain use her powers more. But we don't get that; we only get the bare minimum. In simpler terms, there's no big "wow!" moment that the other films had.
Spoilers below (tread carefully)
Why did they bring the villains back if they were going to do almost nothing with them? The climax of the film was the Chameleon stealing the villains' abilities and fighting Po but we pretty much saw that in the trailer. Tai Lung gets to do some stuff, but I wanted more. Half of his lines were jokes anyway and I didn't vibe with it. Why did they bring him back if he was just gonna comment on things? I don't remember our favorite snow leopard being this comical. He did quip, but there was still a hardened edge to him. Idk. Maybe he got therapy in the spirit realm. Shen and Kai get crumbs, but again, they could've done so much more. And wasn't Kai destroyed completely?
With Shen and Tai Lung, I would've wanted to see more. I'm glad Tai Lung did finally come to respect Po and it does make sense. But Shen? The last time we saw him he rejected Po's help. Unless he too got the same spirit realm therapy Tai Lung did, him bowing to Po does feel very OOC. Nitpicking further, why was Shen brought back anyway? The Chameleon presumably doesn't know who Po is and Shen isn't a kung fu master. With the exception of the fanservice route, this choice only makes sense if the Chameleon was aware of Shen's actions in Gongmen and thought his level of evil would fit her vibe.
Nitpicking aside, there was so much opportunity for Po to confront his villains again and have a deep, serious moment with them. Whether either side likes it or not, they're reunited for a short amount of time. Why not capitalize on this great opportunity?
Speaking of the villain, so much untapped potential. Her design is great, her abilities are really cool, and Viola Davis does a good job voicing her. So why doesn't she get to do more? Imagine a really cool fight sequence where Po confronts her, but she shifts so much that it begins to mess with his head. Or she transforms into the older villains and Po is caught off guard? Instead, we get half the climax spoiled for us in the trailer. What was really cool about the other three was that we got multiple fight scenes with them to showcase their abilities. Thus, the final battle dialed it up to an 11 and we got a truly epic finale. Here, it feels like there should've been more, but there wasn't. Even her backstory feels lacking. It's there... but only surface level. Even Shen, arguably the cruelest of them all, had nuance and depth.
Also, why couldn't we get more of the Furious Five outside of a glorified cameo? Tigress and Po friendship is truly amazing.
As much as the jokes miss, there are some good bits. Shifu trying to deal with Po's shenanigans always crack me up. I also like the bit where Po tries to meditate and his thoughts get in the way. Because hey guess what, that's what my head is like and it's really freaking hard to quiet it down. So, there's that. I just wish the writers didn't feel like they had to insert jokes in almost every line of dialogue, you know? Li and Ping dad adventures are great except half the lines are jokes about how worried they are for Po or how not tough they are. Why not have a deeper conversation? I think it would make everything feel more natural.
I also wish Po himself was a tad more mature. I'm not expecting Shifu or Tigress levels of seriousness, but I felt that he kinda was a bit too childish. Po is one of those characters who loves to have fun, but knows when he has to be serious. However, he also likes to lighten things up with comedy. In this movie, it felt like he only really leaned into the comedy side of things. He had his moments, but I'll be honest, I really missed the "the only thing that matters is what you choose to be now" levels of dialogue. The proverb joke got old real fast, ok?
Grace Randolph from Beyond the Trailer described this movie as episodic and I can see it. The story bits are very segmented between the villain, heroes, and Po's dads. The flow and pacing of this film really needed to be upgraded.
Ok, that's all I got for now. I'm sure I'll think of something else to say (aside from encouraging everyone to rewatch KFP 2 because I'll never get enough of that film).

Behind the scenes- Peaky Blinders (Part 1)
Cillian Murphy x reader
BTS master list
Request
A/N: I wrote this to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the series… right on time before this day ends! I had to cut it into two parts because it got a bit longer… there are no words enough to thank each of you (the peaky fam) for what writing and reading has given me. This little project is really really special and I want to thank @notyour-valentine for tagging me in this request a while ago, thank you for your generosity Val, there’s a little gift between the lines for you. And for the help you provided for another part related to horses♥️
But also @heidimoreton for creating this gorgeous moodboard to go with this story! And my dear @holacia3 for the help you gave me too about horses and @forbidden-forest-witch this is for your belated birthday and the little surprise♥️
Word count: 4,745
✨ Summary: Join us at the stables as Cillian gets riding lessons for his iconic role as Tommy Shelby in the series Peaky Blinders. He came to learn all about horses, but he ended up falling in love not only with them.
Tumblr media
During his career, he had played several roles, learned how to walk on heels for Breakfast on Pluto, about space for Sunshine, even played a part in a film that was close to home in “The wind that shakes the Barley” about the historic war between Northern Ireland and Great Britain.
Acting was such a treat to calm -in a way- his hyperactive mind.
He preferred to not answer what he wasn’t willing to do for a role, because he’d probably do anything.
That included riding horses. Which, in reality he wasn’t a bit familiar with.
He had never even been close to one in his life. His driving skills were so poor, how would he fucking manage an animal that big?
Yet, here he was waiting in the living room of the horses sanctuary located in a remote place of England he had never heard before.
The sighting was breathtaking, the air so pure, no city noise, it was quiet, calm, everything he was looking for before the storm started, he had never been on a series before and the mental challenges of this character was the biggest of his entire career, he had never met a man as complex and with so many layers as this Tommy Shelby he had spent weeks reading, the internal turmoil this man has been through after the war wasn’t his only problem, his background included a household with lots of family problems, taking care of his younger siblings while stepping up to build an ilegal business and endless enemies that he would encounter along the way.
Cillian was greeted by the teenager behind the desk and asked him to wait because the trainer hadn’t show up that morning and she rushed to call someone else on a radio.
“Someone will be here shortly, can I offer you something to drink in the mean time sir?”
Cillian chuckled at the sir part.
“Water would be great.”
Turning around, he was able to see through the window, finding a woman galloping at speed and coming down from the horse without really stopping with just a jump.
Seconds later, the same woman entered the reception out of breath and walked straight to the girl.
“Your horse trainer called in sick again.” Cillian heard the teenager say.
“Thanks Willow, can you help me reschedule the appointment with the bank?”
“Sure, Y/N. Will you also reschedule his sessions?” The teenager pointed at him.
Until now, Cillian had only being able to watch her from behind; petite but lean frame, she had black tight pants, riding boots and a cream jumper on, her hair up in a high pony tail cascading on her upper back.
But when she turned around, Cillian was lost for words as the most angelic face met him.
And he wasn’t one bit religious.
“Mr. Murphy nice to meet you, I’m Y/N.” She offered her hand firmly along with a smile. “Our trainer isn’t available today, please accept my apologies could we reschedule?”
He stammered, not knowing what to say.
“Y/N, you could show him how to ride too.” The teenager proposed.
“I thought you’d be on your way to school young lady.” Y/N raised her eyebrows at the girl. God she was just like her aunt.
“Whatever, I was just saying.” Getting her bag, she stormed from behind the counter. “Should I tell aunt Val dinner is cancelled?”
Oh no.
She knew that look, it was the same her aunt would give her.
“Honey don’t tell your aunt anything.”
“Bye auntie! Bye Mr. Murphy!”
“Sorry, so? I think one of our trainers comes back from a horse fair on Saturday if that day works for you.”
Leaning on the counter, Cillian decided to take a risk. There was something about her.
“I’m in a bit of a hurry, would it give you a lot of trouble if you show me?”
“Not at all! I just thought you wanted a professional trainer that’s all.”
He smiled and for an instant, Y/N’s heart skipped a beat.
“Right, well… follow me this way.” She lead the way outside of the property. “Is this some kind of bucket list thing?” Mondays were usually quiet days at the sanctuary, nothing like the weekends when they were usually packed.
Cillian walked next to her, hands inside his pockets. Unsure about how much to reveal.
“I need to learn how to ride.” He chuckled a little, the script was phenomenal and he was extremely excited about it, but until now he wasn’t able to talk about the project.
Y/N guided him towards the stables, he had seen a few in movies or the telly, but being there in person, it was another story, it was huge and his heart got too excited as his eyes found the horses.
“Do you’ve a particular preference for a horse?” Y/N asked curious about the hermetic man before her.
“Racehorses.”
Y/N turned around slowly to look at him. There was a subtle accent different from his voice, but she brushed it away.
Cillian tried to clear his throat, aware of the voice tone he just used, he was still practicing the accent and mannerisms he had been building over this new character.
“Okay… I can’t let you ride a racehorse if you’ve never been on a horse.”
“Why not?”
“Look, horses are just like people, they’ve their own temper, feelings, the know when we’re scared or aggressive, we don’t mess around them… I’d suggest you start with a gentle horse first.”
“You seem to know a lot about them.” Cillian observed the way she was caressing one as they walked.
“I grew up in this place, my grandparents started this sanctuary, my mother was the only child and she kept the family business, then it was my time to take over.”
“How long have you been running this place?”
“Since I was eighteen.” Y/N admitted. “This is Sally, she’s a good girl.”
Cillian observed Y/N’s moves, the way she approached the horses. And she showed him the right way to caress the animal.
“Can I touch her?”
Bringing the hose to her by the muzzle, she giggled. “She says you can.”
“What else does she says?” It felt soft and he noticed the way Sally was moving her ears.
“That she doesn’t believe you, horses are one of the most intelligent creatures.”
Cillian chuckled, accepting the snack Y/N brought over. He was fascinated by the level of trust she showed with each animal, the way each of them reacted, it was so true, as he was noticing little differences in each horse as their own personalities, it was amazing and as Y/N shared more details about the place with him, he found it was impossible to keep lying to her, she had such an energy that was so inviting, giving him a lot of comfort.
Y/N introduced him to all of the horses, caressing each of them, mentioning little details about their personalities or a couple of qualities. She seemed to know them all well and Cillian was marveled by the way each horse behaved with her. Y/N spent a good amount of time explaining him some of the basics.
“I think I learned how to ride a horse before I started walking, all my childhood I was eager to get out of school to come home and run straight to the stables. They’ve been with me through my worst moments, they own such a healing power humans do not understand about, they’re pure creatures… sorry, I’m boring you.” She mumbled feeling her cheeks burn.
“Not at all, I find it fascinating… the way you talk to them and about them, it’s magical.”
“Y/N! The foal is coming early!”
Y/N’s face went blank they still had a few week left. Turning to Cillian she apologized, but she needed to be there, so she asked Jonah the guy how took care of the saddles to show Cillian around while she was gone, but it could be hours.
“Don’t worry, I’ll be fine, I’m staying at the small bed and breakfast that’s close.”
And he saw her run out of the stables, Jonah explained to him they built a small facility to those special occasions. The boy around his early twenties showed him the racks full of saddles and other equipment they used, he was surprised by all of the things they had around to use with the horses.
It was until around nine o clock when Y/N came down from the stairs, after taking a long bath, she had been so tired helping in the delivery that she just wanted a cup of tea and head off to sleep.
“Jesus, what are you doing here?” She gasped closing the robe tight against her body, she wasn’t expecting to find Cillian sitting by the window.
“Well I asked if I could use the books you’ve here and they said it was alright.” He smiled gently pointing at the pile of books he placed on the table next to him, an empty cup in the corner.
“You’ve been here reading since I left the stables?”
He chuckled a little, not aware of the track of time, he had been reading. “Yes, they’re fascinating.” He debated himself whether revealing her the truth or not.
Y/N threw him a puzzled look.
“You live here? Upstairs I mean.”
She nodded. “Yes, the house was so big so I turned the first floor into the main offices, the kitchen is in the back if you need anything.”
“Thanks, I’ve been looking around at the portraits, hope you don’t mind.”
Just as Y/N was about to answer him, a loud thunder echoed through the property. it was so loud it felt like the house would come crashing down. The sound of droplets of rain against the windows followed right after.
“I’d love to stay and talk about the books with you but I really need to go.” Y/N explained just as she rushed upstairs to get changed when she came back down a few minutes later, he noticed her hair was pulled back in a loose braid, cascading down her back.
“Wait.” Cillian stopped her placing his hand on her arm, “can I come with you?”
She was unsure because of his lack of knowledge, but Cillian seemed to read her mind. “I promise to stay back.”
“Okay.” She nodded and offered a rain jacket from the small closet next to the door.
“Is everything alright?” Cillian asked her with curiosity after getting in her vehicle to protect themselves from the heavy rain.
“It’s one of my horses… he gets pretty scary of this terrible weather.” She explained absently, holding the steering wheel with such force that made her knuckles turn white.
“Tell me about him.”
“Thunder is… special, he was born on a night like this and I know doing this sounds ridiculous, but how can I stand there and do nothing?”
She looked at him for an instant, all of her feelings right there in the surface for him to see and read. Cillian nodded, fighting against the lump on his throat that formed after detecting the passion in her voice.
In silence, Cillian followed Y/N inside the barn rushing immediately towards Thunder.
“There it is my good boy.” She started caressing the horse by the muzzle, gently. The horse was extremely agitated. “Everything’s fine… just a loud noise, you know that.”
Cillian found himself staring at her, unable to look anywhere else, he was under some kind of spell.
“Shh, shh.” She held the horse by the curb rein, -he now knew some of the horsemanship-. “Listen to me, Thunder.”
Marveled by her tactics and control over the horse, he couldn’t help it but start whispering a Romany poem he recently learned as part of the script for the series he was working in. Locking eyes with the beautiful animal, he felt like time stood still, it was as if the horse was going through every layer of his mind and soul and the rest of his surroundings faded away. Eventually, the horse started to give in, coming to a calm state.
“What did you do?” Y/N asked squinting her eyes. “It takes me ages to calm him down.”
Cillian shook his head, realizing the deep connection with the horse was gone but it was impossible to explain that it wasn’t him… it was his character’s nature. It was in his blood.
“It’s a poem.” He admitted quietly noticing the storm was coming down.
“In a foreign langua-?
“Thunder!” A boy stormed through the barn directly in the horse’s corral.
“Arlo what are you doing here? You’re supposed to be sleeping.”
“I thought Thunder might get scared.” He argued, poking his head in to make sure the horse was safe.
“You’re not allowed to come here by yourself in the middle of the night.” She argued.
“But Muuuum!”
Cillian’s heart skipped a beat.
“No buts, Thunder is perfectly fine.” She transformed into a completely different person. “We’re going back to the house right now.”
“Who are you?” Arlo gave him a look, a serious one.
“I’m showing him to ride a horse, focus… on the truck now.” She then turned to look at Cillian. “The only road that could take you to the b&b is probably stuck, it would be better if you stay at the house tonight.”
He wanted to argue, but judging by the intensity of the storm, she was right.
“Sure, thanks.”
She touched the horse’s nose a few times before closing the gate. Cillian followed them in silence, still moved about what just happened with that horse.
“How long are you staying?” Arlo asked Cillian from the back seat.
“A week.”
“What’s your favorite horse?” The kid asked.
“Arlo, it’s late and Mr. Murphy is probably tired.”
He shook his head. “Just Cillian please and it’s fine.”
Y/N’s breath caught in her throat as she saw Cillian giving her a wink and tilting his head.
Parking the truck, Arlo flew inside the house, leaving a wet patch on the floor of his footsteps.
“Boots and bed.” Y/N instructed with a firm voice. “You can stop by tomorrow morning to meet the new Filly.” Cillian saw her kissing the top of the kid’s head and the hint of a smile spread on her lips. “Sorry about that.”
“He looks like you. Must be awesome to have them help you around.”
Y/N made a face. “Them?”
“Arlo and his father?” Cillian asked in confusion.
And now she was moving her head from left to right. “There’s no father around, he left us after learning I was pregnant.” Y/N looked towards the stairs where her son disappeared a few minutes ago, shuddering. “Can I offer you some tea? It’s cold.”
“‘M sorry… shouldn’t have assumed.”
Brushing off the topic, she started the kettle and Cillian went back to feel extremely comfortable around her. And considering the personal revelation she just shared with him, he needed to be honest in return.
“I’m working in a project that involves horses, but like such a real passion for horses.” He ended up confessing after meeting all of them.
“That sounds interesting.” She admitted but decided to not ask further.
“Yeah,” Cillian ran his hand over the back of his neck. “I need you to show me everything about them… please. I’m portraying a character that involves a man that used to be in love with them, horses are a huge part of this man’s soul, it’s for a BBC series.”
Y/N turned with two cups in her hands, her mind trying to register his words.
“I-I’m an actor.” Cillian revealed after an instant. “But I need you to keep this between us because I signed a confidentiality contract and I could get kicked out of it.”
“Goodness I’m sorry, thought I had seen you before but I couldn’t remember where,” an adorable blush turned her cheeks pink, “I hope you understand I don’t go to the movies a lot, my whole life is this sanctuary and my son…”
“Please don’t even say it.” He chuckled. “I actually prefer it that way.”
“I think the last movie I saw you in…” Y/N stared into the ceiling thinking about it, “was it Inception? Probably.”
Cillian smiled and he lighted the entire kitchen with it.
“Yeah.”
Pouring both cups, Cillian stood up to take them from her hands.
“So uhhm… this project? Why exactly do you need a racehorse?” She asked cautiously.
“My character is a bookmaker, he arranges races… it’s placed in 1919 so he moved around horses after World War I. It’s quite interesting.” Cillian raised his eyebrows in appreciation for the tea after taking a sip. “Fascinating actually.”
“Definitely sounds intriguing.” Y/N admitted leaning her elbow on the table.
“As soon as I started reading the script I was attracted into his world.” He smiled, revering when he got the call for the audition. “Sorry I don’t want to keep you up.”
“It’s fine, I’ll stay for a little longer checking some paperwork.” Her thumb rubbed a chip in her mug. “So would it be okay if I show you everything? From brushing the horse, how to hook the saddle? The way you should approach one?”
Leaning back, Cillian looked at her with his head tilted to the side. “I actually need to learn how to ride bareback.”
****
The following morning, Y/N was preparing the lunchbox for Arlo when a deep voice startled her.
“Good morning.” Cillian saw the little jump she did.
“Hello, did you sleep well?”
Nodding, he smiled in her direction. “Thank you for the accommodation, much better than the B&B.”
“So! I just came here to check the new-” Val announced from the front door just as Arlo stormed into the kitchen but she cut herself when she spotted a man in the corner, “horse, but I see you’re busy.” She replied looking at you. “Just wanted to say it’s highly approved by the comitee. Hello, I’m Val.” She greeted Cillian.
“Nice to meet you.”
“Val…” Y/N added as a warning, knowing how Val was.
“What? It fills all the requirements… great breed, elegance, experience.” She made an OK with her hand.
“Val.” Y/N repeated. “Arlo go or you will be late for school.” She kissed the kid goodbye and felt Val’s eyes on her.
Of course her best friend wasn’t talking about a goddamn horse!
“How about I see you later today? I’m about to get a bit busy.” Y/N asked, she needed to get her friend out of her house before she could keep talking about Cillian as if he was a horse. “We’ve a riding lesson about to start.”
“Have a great time at the barn!” Val gave her a look before leaving them.
After a quick breakfast, Y/N gave him a pair of high boots and introduced Cillian to the different tools they used with the horses.
“To check the heel, you have to take your horse from here.” Y/N showed him how to carefully bend the horse’s leg. “It’s important to let them know that you know what you’re doing. They’re very sensitive.”
Cillian watched intensely every single move she made, how her tone was soft while she had a firm grip on the horse. He couldn’t get to move his eyes from her as she used one of the many tools to brush the mare’s neck.
“They also love to get petted.” Y/N added as she noticed Cillian got quiet. “Would you like to give it a try?”
Finally snapping from his trance, he took the brush and tentatively started to brush the mare.
“She likes that.” Y/N encouraged him noticing the little noises Goldie was making.
“She’s beautiful.” Cillian complimented.
“One of the most gentle ones I’ve seen so far.” Y/N caressed the mare from the other side, giving Cillian space to get comfortable around Goldie. “Her owner, Cia is a great friend and client.”
“And I assume the name is because of the color?” Cillian asked with interest, toiling the soft texture of Goldie.
Y/N nodded profusely.
“She’s recovering from an injury so well, now just needs some rest and she’ll be able to go back on the road in no time.” Cillian noticed the way she whispered to Goldie, looking straight into her eyes.
And she showed him how to get Goldie saddled, adding important tips and tricks to do it right, how to do it properly. It took him a few tries to do it right, but Y/N was so patient, she even admitted that was a virtue she had to thank the horses for.
“Y/N I’m sorry for not coming yesterday.” A woman approached them. “They said I could find you here.”
“Brie don’t worry, is everything alright?” Y/N asked while she eyed Cillian from the corner of her eyes.
That’s when Bries’s eyes sparkled. “Yes! Oh! Y/N… I’ve something to tell you.”
Cillian didn’t even look at them, he was totally engrossed on Goldie, all of his senses on brushing the mare, carefully to not stand behind her just like Y/N instructed. She had been answering all of his endless questions.
“Brie what’s happening?” Y/N looked at her horse trainer with curiosity.
“I just found out I’m pregnant!” She explained with excitement, unable to contain it or hide it any longer.
Y/N pulled her for a tight hug. “Brie, congratulations! This is the best news.”
There were tears in her eyes. “That’s why I couldn’t make it yesterday, I got morning sick and stayed in bed all day. But everything is perfect!”
Y/N couldn’t be happier, by the corner of his eyes, Cillian noticed the genuine smile on her face.
“Okay, so how about you go into the office and help me with the paperwork? I will be in charge for the training from now.” Y/N wrapped her arm around Brie and gave her a tender squeeze. “Made some sandwiches, help yourself.”
“That’s delicious! I brought some chips because, well cravings!” She chuckled giving Cillian a quick glance, it had been ages ago when Y/N went to the barn to give riding lessons.
Turning again towards Cillian, Y/N noticed how good he was, and he learned fast. “You’re a natural.”
Cillian smiled pleased with his improvement, he couldn’t wait to get on the horse.
“Got the best trainer to teach me.”
As time was flying, she noticed it was almost time for Arlo to come back home. “Look, how about we take a break? I need to make lunch for my son but you can join us if you want.”
“I don’t want to disturb your dynamic, Y/N.”
Y/N shook her head. “Non of that.” After caressing the horse’s ears, she added; “come have lunch with us.”
Leaving the boots right next to Y/N’s, Cillian changed into his shoes as they walked into the kitchen, finding Brie with her back at them.
“I hope you don’t mind, I made some pasta.” She smiled at them. “Enough for all of us.”
“Brie you’re going to spoil me just like that baby with some delicious food all the time? I mightjustb open the guest bedrooms and rent them.” Y/N joked leaning over the pot, the smell made her stomach growl.
“Well given the financial circumstances that isn’t a bad idea.” Brie admitted.
“Congratulations.” Added Cillian from the corner of the kitchen.
“Thank you!”
“Mum! I’ve already chose a name for the filly!” Arlo’s voice resonated from the entrance.
“Hello, good evening to you too, can you show some modals please?”
“Hello!” Arlo went to wash his hands and started helping his Mum set the table, Cillian offered to assist the kid. “Do you like riding?”
Looking at him, Cillian nodded. “I’m hoping I won’t be an embarrassment.”
“It’s easy!”
Cillian chuckled at him. “You say that because you were born riding.”
“Are you friends with my Mum? Does it means you’re my friend too?”Arlo gave him a hopeful look. Cillian answered him with a nod. “She needs some.”
Catching the last part of the conversation only Y/N approached them with the food, Brie following her steps.
“I need you to not bother our guests.” She answered and disheveled his hair playfully.
“Y/N I was thinking on what you said.” Cillian looked at her cautiously. “If you want of course… I could pay you and stay here instead of the B&B.”
“Are you sure?” Y/N asked considering his offer.
He nodded. “I rather stay here and use the driving time from there to here and back in learning more.” Deep down he loved the familiar energy.
“Mum, say yes! I can show Cillian my cars collection!” Arlo suggested excited.
“Well, yes. How can I say no?” She accepted earning a round of happy chants from everyone.
By the end of the day Cillian learned how to get the horse saddled, it was so important to hold it firmly in place. But also he learned to listen to the horse, he needed to make sure the horse was comfortable. Y/N suggested they could go for a walk and take the horses, it was extremely important for Cillian to learn to control the horse while being on the ground first to then be able to ride one.
The following day, they spent a good amount of time working on showing Cillian how to get on the horse, it took several attempts. It was harder than Y/N made it look. But Cillian was determined to give all of him. And more than once, he found himself staring at her until she motioned him to get closer to have a better look and he’d snap out from his trance.
In just a few days he realized Y/N had a very kind heart judging by the way she treated the horses, she showed them respect and loved them with every fiber in her body. The work she did was admirable, being right there away from everything and everyone allowed him to really understand a fundamental part of his character.
By the third day in the facility, Cia paid Goldie a visit, she wanted to take her mare back home but Y/N suggested waiting a few more days until she was fully recovered. While Y/N walked Cia to her vehicle, Cillian decided to stop by Thunder’s corral.
“Hello! Is Y/N around?” Val approached him. “Arlo said she was here.”
“She went to walk Cia out after checking her mare.”
Val doubted whether to ask him directly or not, but she knew her friend better than anyone. “I hope you don’t find me or what I’m about to say rude… but I’ve seen the way you look at her, Brie says Y/N is smiling again, something she hasn’t done much apart from Arlo of course. Do you like her?”
Cillian took a step back, surprised by Val’s sharp eye. But he ended up nodding.
“Don’t look at me like I grew another head, I care about her but I also know she has been disappointed and hurt before,” Cillian looked down, not knowing what to do or say, “she likes you, secretly.”
Val’s words made him snap his head up to look at her.
“She does, I can see it in her eyes… so all I ask is give her time, slowly just like you would start riding a horse, you don’t go galloping after getting on them. She’s like a wild horse after getting kicked so many times, she acts on defensive mode but underneath she’s a softy.”
And just as she arrived, she left, leaving Cillian alone to face an avalanche to a door he closed because when he signed the contract for the Peaky Blinders series, he decided to end the relationship he was in and making the firm decision that he’d focus on this project only.
But sometimes, life has a different plan than yours.
“I came here willing to learn how to ride, but I think I’m getting so much more than that.” Cillian confessed to the thorough, extending his hand to caress the horse’s muzzle.

Hey girl! Before I ask, I just wanted to say I love your blog-especially your taste in movies! I've watched so many good movies from you! I noticed you kind of gravitate more towards campy, trailer park-esque vibes, which is something I also adore. I was wondering if you could think of any movies that have that specific vibe, that also fit with coquette/faunlet vibes. Thanks! And once again, love your blog!
Hi! Thank you so much for sending me this ask and for supporting my blog, I really appreciate it ♡
I try to watch lots of films that relate to the coquette/faunlet lifestyle and I'm constantly discovering new movies (@coquette-club is currently posting about lots of great films to check out)!
I love campy, trailer park/motel/road trip type films because that sort of lifestyle has always been interesting to me and I have seen many great films over the years that feature these motifs so here's my little list for you ♡
Tumblr media Tumblr media
American Honey (2016)
Star is a young girl living in poverty with her dysfunctional family until she meets a charming stranger in a supermarket. They go on a road trip selling magazines door-to-door and meet many interesting people along the way. It's a beautiful film about growing up, first love, identity and features mainly unknown actors and improvised lines to feel even more gritty and real. Sasha Lane is incredible in this film and I adore her ♡
Tumblr media
Black Snake Moan (2006)
Christina Ricci plays a young woman who is lost in life and suffers from nymphomania and Samuel L Jackson's character Lazarus attempts to cure her by imprisoning her with a chain around her waist. It's a seriously weird film and you've probably seen the clips of Ricci dancing with the chain, but it's also pretty enjoyable and features some really awesome blues music, southern sleaze and skimpy coquette outfits ♡
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hick (2011)
This one is a classic in the coquette world, Luli has become an icon to us with her dreams of running away to find fun in Las Vegas after being abandoned by her family at 13 years old. She hitches a ride with a cowboy and sleeps in a trailer, does cocaine and robs a convenience store (and that's just the first act). It's a super grimy film and I enjoyed the visuals too ♡
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ripe (1996)
Two orphaned sisters flee a car wreck and hitch a ride to a dilapidated army camp, where they stay with the grumpy caretaker and cause chaos wherever they go. It's really hard to find but worth the watch if you can, the aesthetics are so sickly sweet and feel just like Video Games by Lana Del Rey mixed with the warmth of a summer day ♡
A few miscellaneous:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Where the Heart is (2000) // Bones and All (2022)
~ Natalie Portman's character lives in a trailer park and is abandoned pregnant by her boyfriend in a wallmart
~ Road trip love story, our main characters steal and squat in various trailers, farms and other lodgings
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Florida Project (2017) // Drop Dead Gorgeous (1999)
~ A single mother lives in a motel in Florida
~ Teen beauty pagent star lives with her mother in a trailer
I really hope this is helpful! There are probably others but this is all I can think of for now, and there are many more similar to this that I haven't yet seen! Thanks again for the ask ♡

So, I rewatched the trailer over and over again, I stepped back, organised my thoughts, and I think I get it.
So first the Bad, then the GOOD, because there's actually a lot to like here.
The Bad:
So, the trend of companies kicking actual voice actors onto the curb and replacing them with celebrities continues. I remember being really angry when they first announced the voice cast, and I still am. It's quite literally the most boring, generic casting possible. You can not get much more white bread, milk toast than a Chris and Scar - I want to play an Asian woman and trans man - jo. Also, why is Chris Hemsworth here? Do he really need the money? Did Thor 4 damage his pockets that bad? There are so many talented voice actors that could've been Orion, David Kaye is a prime example Animated Optimus and Beats Wars/Unicron Trilogy Megatron, beloved by fans, if he was announced people would've been over joyed. I love Brian Tyree Henry, and he actually has some experience with va work as he voiced Jeff Morales in Spider-Verse, my original criticism still stands.... And Kegan, oh Kegan, I love you so much, Key and Peele was my childhood, and the Toad performance was perfectly fine, endearing even. But as Bee? I'm sorry, but no, that's not BumbleBee that's just actor/comedian Kegan Michael Key, I can't hear anything else. And it doesn't help that he's handed the worst lines.
Which brings us to the comedy. First impressions are EVERYTHING. And if you fumble that that hurts your film, and the perception of your film. I think that's really the problem here, it's a bad trailer not necessarily bad content. Packing the trailer with jokes for the sake of jokes and having that samey Hollywood liscensed music cringey feel to it. Like the guitar riff that played when the 'This Fall' card came up just made me turn off the video immediately. That's why I recommend watching the trailer without sound. Bee's jokes don't really land for me, I'm sure kids with love it tho, and that's good. But I'm sure all the jokes won't be bad, the final door gag is actually really funny. So I think it was just a bad joke that soured out feel of the tone at the beginning, which is unfortunate because like I said first impressions are everything. Because this is Josh Cooly, of Up, Inside Out, Toy Story 4 fame, I'm sure the film will have an emotional core to it.
A minor thing I don't much care for is having Bee be in the same age range as Orion, in my mind he's always constructed during the war at like the half way mark or near the end, he's the little brother of the group, and now he's old enough to remember Op and Megs before the war. Also he sounds way too old.
Oh, also I don't like Orion's personality.
Good:
Now for the good; I think the animations style is gorgeous. Would have I liked something Spider-Verse/Mutant Mayhem-esk, of course, but what are you gonna do? The stand out here is the environments, a visual feast. This might already be my favourite Cybertron, it's so different yet reminisant of the Cybertron we know. The fact that the surface transformers and shifts and changes is genius, very IDW Phase 2 inspired. And the fact that Cybertron is a techno-organic hybrid world ala Beast Machines is crazy! I love that, and wildlife! I bet that's how we get the cassettes. The character models are great too, you can actually tell what emotion is happening on a person's face. Gone are the days of faces being made up of razor blades and mandibles BECAUSE THEY'RE NOT INSECTS FUCK YOU MICHAEL BAY. THEY'RE PEOPLE! There's the nose, the lips, the eyes, and I can tell where one begins and ends. The eyes are gorgeous and detailed, and the face surface detail has smuges, wear, specs of dirt, metallic texture. Like, you nailed it! It's a person but a robot, you got it!
We see what we assume are the 13 Primes, Alpha Trion being the only survivor, maybe they were killed by the Quintessons and they took over. D-16, a ref to IDW and his toys designation in the toy catalogue, he'll obviously name himself after Megatronus ala TF Prime. He seems to have the Decepticon insignia before meeting The Fallen so maybe Megatronus' face is some sort of religious iconography, the Primes are a religion on Cybertron after all. It's all so fascinating, I can't remember the last time I was so excited to learn more about a new TF continuity.
Orion and D-16 are both miners and or workers, that's a refreshing take, no coptimus here. They've suffered the same way together, I bet story will be about dealing with that pain, what justice means, how far one is willing to take it and where justice stops and injustice begins. I know people are mad that the origins are a little different, but I ask you, different from what? Which continuity are you talking about? TF has never had a consistent singular timeline, and that's what I love about this franchise! It builds on itself with each new continuity! Take a bit of the old, mix it with new ideas and create something fresh, then that old guard leaves and a new team takes over and does the same and the franchise continues to evolve or should I say transform. Like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get, and new incarnations always give second chances to improve apon what came before. No Reboots, no risks means no Skybite, or Nemesis Prime, no Stasis Pods, Sparks, Protoforms, Energon ore, no Star Saber, Hot Shot, Knock Out, Airachnid, no All Spark, no Sari, no Bulkhead, no old grumpy Ratchet, none of that. Reboots are a part of this franchise's DNA. I sense the people that are complaining are the people who only value one continuity and discard all others.
It's really neat this universe's version of The Cast System is lower class worker protoforms being denied a Transformation Cog, it seems like it's reserved for the higher classes, the very thing that makes their species special and unique is denied to them. Also I didn't notice it the first time, but Alpha actually pulls the t-cogs out of the dead Primes which kind of signifies a passing of the guard, the old Primes failed, now it's your turn, and of course history repeats itself with the downfall of Megatron.
I like how Trion is covered and intertwined with moss and vines and has a beast mode, showcasing that he's of an older era now gone and forgotten.
Some other smaller stuff:
The sun looks like a holographic simulation, which makes me wonder, Cybertron doesn't usually have a sun, but there's plant life now, so what's up?
The cave that the dead Primes and Trion are in kinda looks like a Dweller.
Megatron's black helmet is a ref to Marvel G1.
That spin kick where Elita twirls her entire waist around is sooo satisfying. I love it.
AIRACHNID!!?!!!! MY QUEEN HAS RETURNED!!!!!!!
I think that's a good point to end on. So, yeah, v excited.

Psycho-Pass: Providence: NOT A REVIEW
When I went to watch PPP, I was sure that I was going to do a massive breakdown and more on here, like I had seen so many fans do - it almost felt like I'd be letting down the fandom if I didn't tbh...
But I didn't end up doing one. For various energy and ADHD-related reasons, but also because the film left me feeling so very satisfied that I honestly felt like I had nothing to say. Nothing needed to be said.
So here is a bit more of me saying nothing:
The film truly was a representation of what a cast and crew of people who have held a story with them for over a decade can do even with the most straightforward plotline. I honestly forgot that I was watching animated characters on screen - the way their voices worked - especially Kougami, Akane, Saiga, Shion and Gino (because of course Gino) was so REAL.
I love the fact that in a sci-fi cyberpunk dystopia set in 2115 onward, there is really no attention to detail in the sci-fi part of things. That's always been the beauty of the storytelling in Psycho-Pass. The computers, vehicles, the non-Dominator weaponry, the medical stuff, gender and patriarchy, even the architecture - all of it is UNfuturistic af. And that's beautiful! I know it probably has to do with budgets and timelines, but I think the simplicity of the world also draws attention to the priorities of Japanese society in the story.
Also, I've read a few takes about the whole KouAka thing. The idea that when they met in SEANu their chemistry was off the charts and then they went back to being awkward in PPP. But I think that was the point. Because of the way Japan is structured under Sybil, there is no scope for straying from your path or playing beyond the role you have been assigned. So in the wilderness, they could push boundaries. I think the same happened when Gino and Kou met outside Japan. But under Sybil, you are consistently under watch and so you toe the line. Again, I think this is a brilliant storytelling detail.
Ginoza Nobuchika. My beloved. He had so many beautiful moments in the story. Even though he didn't contribute much to the plot per se. But for that very reason, he seemed like a whole person in this film, someone who wasn't being driven by lofty ideals or unreasonable motivations. Just a dude, chilling, kicking ass, looking gorgeous, detaching his prosthetic to escape an explosion, saving lives. How wonderful it is for him to have reached here. Gives me so much hope for the future. For me.
And this. Of course.
Tumblr media
So I just want to congratulate the entire team behind this film for giving us a great chapter in the epic tale of Psycho-Pass.

Ripe Town Ep. 1 visuals: Under the cover of light
Tumblr media
I am absolutely LOVING the historical crime drama Ripe Town. It's moody, nicely paced, and has really solid acting. The show reminds me of a grimmer, more ruminative A League of Nobleman, and its restrained but equally masterful cinematography caught my eye from the first scene. If you're looking for a prestige drama, this is it.
I wanted to share some of the cinematography choices the show makes in its first episode that help set the perfect tone for a crime drama. Film nerds, there are so many goodies in this show.
Under the cover of light
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
What a great cold open.
The show drops us (literally) in a farm field with our main character, Qu Sangeng, and his partner, Gao Shicong. They are bailiffs who have been sent out into the fields to investigate the mysterious appearance of a scarecrow, and they soon discover it's the dead body of Sangeng's mentor, Captain Leng.
(Side Note: There's something intriguing about the way the camera lingers on this sea of gold as it swallows and propels Sangeng and Shicong toward the scarecrow. It's almost like the field is its own character with its own memories. I don't think this will be the last time the plot returns us to this location.)
We learn at the coroner's that Captain Leng had not only been strangled but also pierced with a wooden rod bearing the Confucian quote "My principle is unified." This inscription paired with the theatricality of the body's staging (in broad daylight, in an open field) lends a deeper meaning to the murder. As an officer of the law, it is Captain Leng's duty to uphold justice, so why else would the murderer distort a classic work of philosophy if not to indict Leng of some moral malpractice?
And to a certain extent, we can understand that indictment by how the show portrays Captain Leng and Sangeng's colleagues in the criminal court system. Just look at how these officials are introduced:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
They're filmed in darkness or shadow, the use of low-key lighting giving each a suspicious air. The strategic use of props further reinforces our first impression of them as sinister, incompetent, and corrupt men.
It makes you think about what other crimes have been committed in these rooms under the guise of justice.
The virtuous (but unstable) lone cop
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Given how the show portrays the police and court system, it's notable how our main character, Sangeng, is often blocked in relation to them. As a bailiff, Sangeng is intelligent and principled. When we look at the composition of his scenes with men in power, he is often positioned towards the other end of the screen with the vertical lines of beams or doors physically demarcating his separation from them. He doesn't share their ethics nor does he tolerate their power plays.
And yet in Episode 2, we see the usually stoic Sangeng display a startling amount of violence and abuse of power, similar to a colleague he had criticized for the same behavior during this episode. I'm curious to see if and how this investigation continues to unravel him.
If these walls could speak
Ok, my favorite part of this show's cinematography is its use of dirty framing. Look at these gorgeous shots:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dirtying the frame is when the camera crew uses things like architecture, objects, or even people in the foreground to add depth to a shot. Ripe Town constantly uses windows, plants, etc. to frame our characters as they discuss the case, which is such a smart way of upping the show's creepy factor. It feels like there is always someone (possibly the killer?) watching from beyond the frame
But maybe even cooler is the constant use of background action:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Check out how often there are people in the background near enough to our main characters to observe but far enough to not be intrusive (or helpful). Throughout Episode 1, we see farmers, bailiffs, and other workers stand around as Sangeng works the case. Like with the dirty framing, there's a sense of surveillance but this time from the townspeople as a whole. It's the classic small-town mystery trope where you suspect everyone knows more than they let on.
I wonder if this notion of surveillance will become one of the show’s major themes: are people watching because they’re trying to protect a secret or are they watching because they're hoping someone will reveal and take accountability for those secrets?
Together, these filming techniques create a fascinating world where murder is committed during the day and secrets are revealed in the dark. I can't wait to see how the story continues to deliver more and more interesting visuals as its mysterious plot unfolds.

If you don't mind, can I ask, what are your top 10 (or top 7) favorite media (can be books/ manga/ anime/movies/tv series)? Why do you love them? Sorry if you've answered this question before......Thanks....
Thank you for asking! I had one person who sent me an ask related to this and then deleted it before I could answer (I think I scared them away yelling at other people in my asks 😂).
So here we go, a compiled overview of my TOP TEN FAVORITE MEDIA!! Some will be current that could change (like songs, ever changing) and others will be permanent (like shows).
Tumblr media
NBC's Hannibal [Show]: It shouldn't come as a surprise that this is my top favorite piece of media of all time. Not to do the whole 'I liked it before it was mainstream' but I FOUND IT WHEN IT WAS STILL RELATIVELY CULT-LOVED AND GOT INTO IT WHEN IT WAS ON AMAZON PRIME VIDEO. THE FANDOM FELT TINY ❗️ Anyway, I'm so glad to see how far it's come and how the fandom has grown. This remains one of the only series that was cancelled that I couldn't tell was actually cancelled because it still wrapped up so nicely in the last-aired season. I'm endlessly impressed with the character arcs, the dynamics, the PSYCHOLOGY (a huge deal for me), and especially the dialogue. I mean, I could list literally every element of this show and how tastefully it was used, but the main highlights are how artfully the gore is shown - giving great perspective of the killers whose eyes we mainly see through - and the dialogue. There's a surrealist tone to it, and so many of the lines are subtle poetry without being the hamfisted one-liners of so many other shows that try to do the same. The actors are incredible, the scenes are precisely paced, and just overall you can tell this was a work of the heart. I mean, more superficially, the homoerotic nature of Hannibal and Will's relationship appealed to me as soon as it was introduced, because GODS is it miles higher in chemistry than like ACTUAL EXISTING so-called LGBT romance shows. (I'm glaring FLAMING DAGGERS at the garbage Interview With a Vampire show in which they ruined everything but most of all the chemistry that the original story did so well.) In any case, please watch it! It's one of the best things I've ever seen.
Tumblr media
Last Night in Soho [Film]: Directed by my favorite director, Edgar Wright, who has the most fantastic habit of matching musical beats to visuals (a particular love of mine), this film is GORGEOUS, for one. The colors and scenery, the editing, the lights, the creative shots, the effects, the MIRRORS! Don't get me started on the mirrors. I love mirrors. One of my favorite things about characters - although ONLY when done well - is the contrast of duality. Some of the best portrayals besides this one are in Tokyo Ghoul and Moon Knight, off the top of my head. It's hard to find portrayals I like, but this one shines above them all. There are technicalities on the actual character being dual, but I wouldn't spoil it for you. It's the journey of both a past and present woman, one struggling to find her place in the fashion industry, and one struggling to escape the sex industry before it devours her. I heavily related to certain themes in this one and was viscerally enthralled in the choices and character arcs made in certain scenes. It's cathartic, it's overwhelming, it's PURE ART. You're missing out if you never see this one.
Tumblr media
HBO's Sharp Objects [Show]: On so many levels, this one speaks to my wounded little heart. Dealing with heavy topics like childhood trauma, parental abuse, self harm, child murders, the bad sides of southern/small-town culture, and mental illness, I don't know if there's another character that I feel quite as connected to as Amy Adams' portrayal of Camille Preaker. The outstanding detail of this one for me, personally, is Camille's mother, Adora. I can confidently say that there IS no other mother that resembles how my childhood felt than Adora, and because of that this show was a painful sort of catharsis. But I love feeling emotions to a dangerous degree, and I'll just say the finale of this one wiped me the fuck out. I'm currently rewatching it for the first time with my close friends, and I'm so scared to get to that finale again. Lmao. But in a good way. In any case, other than Adora, I also identified with the accurate and visceral portrayals of self harm and PTSD. The way that they show flashbacks and visually jumpscare the viewer WITHOUT the presence of blasting music was the show's shining glory. You have literal ASMR wind and crickets over shots of a dead child's missing teeth, blood hitting pavement, pornography on a cabin door, and then a hanged corpse in the corner of the bedroom, right there with Camille in the shot. It is...SO accurate to the feelings of PTSD. It's just so good. I would recommend the show for that alone, and yet everything else is so perfect, too. Along with the gripping plot of a murder case, the intense shame that follows Camille wherever she goes makes for such good conflict and friction with her surroundings. Everything is personal because it takes place in her hometown. Anyway, I can't keep rambling my mind out of its skull over this one. It's beautiful, it's perfect, it's fascinating. Please see it. I beg of you. For me, it represented so much of how it felt to grow up with family dynamics like Camille's. If you relate to it, you'll either love the catharsis or hate the memories it revives.
Tumblr media
No Longer Human [Novel]: Pretty sure I've already rambled my ass off about this one when I made the 10 Characters 10 Fandoms post since Yozo is one of the most relatable characters I've ever read about and thus one of my faves! But yeah, this novel is everything to me. I want so many quotes on my wall from it but honestly the one that I constantly think about is still that first line: "Mine has been a life of much shame." It's well known, but that doesn't make it any less impactful for me. I still tear up sometimes when I think about it. Yozo's thought process is just so...accurate. And knowing all about Dazai Osamu and his life as the writer and how closely it's tied to it? I don't think it will ever move from its spot as my top novel of all time.
Tumblr media
The Vampire Armand by Anne Rice [Novel]: Lol so the gif isn't from this story specifically but I need gifs for happy brain so I have one related to the story. Probably one of my favorite romances of all time, mostly because it's a very reserved romance, in the sense that it can't exactly be labelled "romance" except in sub-context. (I mean they do have sex but it's like a story about vampires first, if that makes sense? The romance is sort of a subplot to Armand's vampire adventures.) Anne Rice is a favorite writer of mine, and this book was a masterpiece to me. The language she uses and the scenes of vampirism fascinated me, and I wish that vampire media was better at bringing Anne's true style to life. They make it so goofy nowadays, and no other vampire stories apart from some anime portrayals are ever interesting to me. Not to mention the new Interview With A Vampire series as aforementioned is SO BAD and I hate it. Anne could handle that excessive grace of a man who's lived for centuries and the intelligence gained along the way without ruining their humanity, and knew how to portray the loneliness of such a life without making her characters sound like the emo piss babies of Twilight. She has such a grasp on the poetry of words and breadth of experience, and I'll never get over just how exciting it was to read this book for the first time. Truly felt like I was discovering vampires for the first time, and how they would realistically operate if they existed.
Tumblr media
Tokyo Ghoul [Manga]: I believe everyone knows quite enough about Tokyo Ghoul, so I promise not to ramble on this one! But in short, as a psychological thriller lover PLUS horror lover PLUS dual-personality-when-done-right-and-realistically lover PLUS cannibalism-exlored-and-the-terrifying-effects lover I MEAN THIS IS JUST THE STORY FOR ME OBVIOUSLY. Kaneki has and always will be fascinating to me no matter how mainstream or over-talked about he is. He is amazing. Did the anime leave out most of the good stuff from the manga? Yeah, but Kaneki was there. The torture scenes were great. Is the manga better? WORLDS BETTER. But I still enjoyed the anime and got into it through there. I respect the anime's attempt to capture what was a sincerely tragic and deep emotional story. But man, reading the manga is something else, entirely. I haven't had the chance to read every single volume, and I may have skipped around a bit in search of the best parts to invest my time in, but boy I never regretted it. Kaneki's arc, getting to see into his head and experience his trauma and eventual decline into madness was SO SO SO SO SO FUCKING GORGEOUS. Nothing will beat it for a descent into madness story for me, I don't think. Plus ghouls as a whole and the art of the manga are just so *claws the wall* I wish I could draw like that.
Tumblr media
The Phantom of the Opera [Score]: What's this?? Het media on Sadist's list?? Okay. I'm a huuuuge music fanatic. I grew up with multiple instruments in the house and played to escape, wrote to express, blah blah blah you get it, I NEEDED music to survive. When I discovered this soundtrack, as someone who despises musicals (and still does, but a few have made it through to my heart), I was ENTHRALLED, I tell you. ENCHANTED! Never before or since have I heard such riveting, mysterious, ethereal music, much less in a musical. Every single fucking song on this soundtrack is evocative and perfect and EVERYTHING. And the STORY! AUGH! I've always adored the story. One of my main quarrels with het 'romance' media is that so many of the "greats" (AKA The Notebook, 50 Shades, Twilight, After, etc.) have these fucking...WALKING RED FLAGS that are presented to be the most romantic things ever. Like the movie itself is gaslighting the audience into believing the emotionally manipulative man dangling off of a ferris wheel and threatening to kill himself if the girl doesn't go out on a date with him is adorable. I don't find it cute I find it reminiscent of every bad partner I've ever had, and I can't watch the movies because NOBODY in them ever acknowledges or is affected negatively in any way by these glaring, abusive behaviors. In Phantom of the Opera, Eric (the phantom) is obsessive, stalkerish, possessive, etc. - many things that other media presents as love WITHOUT understanding how it's also terrifying. The movie (though a little goofy at times and dramatic, I'll admit - which is why the score and not the film is on my tops list LMAO) presents these factors as they SHOULD be presented - scary. The music is ominous, the songs are obsessive and enchanting, and it's not presented as cutesy romance. That's why I love it so much. If you want a toxic love interest, please go right ahead and make one! You guys know me, that's literally what I write about. So I hope I've made myself clear about this topic and what I mean - just present the actual abuse as ACTUAL ABUSE, and scary and horrible, even if the protagonist is falling in love with that. Because reality can be like that. It's tough. But in Phantom, Christine goes with the healthy love interest in the end, Raoul, and I've always thought the ending was beautiful for that, because the Phantom still learned love in the end by letting her go. ANYWAY! Enough of that, good grief lmao. Tumblr with no word limits is so dangerous for me.
Tumblr media
Mo Dao Zu Shi [Donghua]: 3 Seasons and I still haven't had enough of it. I just recently rewatched this with my close friends and good gods I was appreciating all the intricacy and character development the second time around. There isn't a single character left un-developed in this donghua like SERIOUSLY. Seriously, big kudos to the fucking author. In anyone else's hands, the magic system and the multiple plot lines and the larger-than-life characters most likely would've been fumbled. But whoever directed this KNEW what they were doing and KNEW their source material. And look, even though I barely know who is who because names are confusing and I barely understand half of the magic going on and why people are fighting, THIS IS THE SINGULAR SHOW THAT EXISTS WHERE IT DOESN'T FUCKING MATTER. I'M STILL TRYING TO UNDERSTAND HOW THAT WORKS. But it does? The emotional capacity of every scene no matter if I know what's happening or why just HITS and I'm always rooting for the characters or crying over them. Like, it's just insane. Okay. Everyone who's into BL should watch it, because it's one of the best. And even if you're not into BL, it's one of the best. The action is INCREDIBLE. apffff moving on.

The Case Study of Vanitas [Anime]: BRUUUUUHHHHH. We all know. We all know. I don't need to say anything. But the two boys, man. Two of my top faves. The show is gorgeous, the character designs are beautiful, the setting is romantic, the boys are gay (they are. they are gay.)...I mean what more can I ask for. Oh yeah also vampires! They're vampires. And I love vampires that are like, actually cool. Thank you for making actually cool vampires within a really interesting magic system. I would kiss the author but she made Vanitas straight so no kisses. ONE OF MY FAVORITE COUPLE OF CLIMAX EPISODES OF ALL TIME BTW.
Tumblr media
A Silent Voice [Anime Film]: :(...I can't really talk about this one. I relate to it so much. Social anxiety, depression, attempted suicide. It's a really beautiful and painful movie. I cry every time I watch it. The end, that's all. The imagery and the meaning behind so many shots is just...UWEGH.
Tumblr media
To Your Eternity [Anime]: *furiously points* LOOK AT THE BABY. OH MY GODS LOOK AT HIM. You guys, you guys. You guys. If you haven't seen this, and you like crying, and you need to cry really hard, and you need the most fascinating and heart wrenching story of all time, this is the one. Fushi, also? Hot. The Beholder, his daddy? Hot. Kenjiro Tsuda? Hot. Sorry, besides the point. This is the best written "you're supposed to cry" story I've ever seen. Nothing beats it. You know what they're going to do to you but yet they somehow subvert your expectations of HOW every fucking time, and MAN??? It hurts. But it hurts so good. And Fushi should be real so I can kidnap him, that's all.
I did 11 things, I'm so sorry. I do this every time. BUT I SURE HOPE YOU FOUND THOSE INTERESTING AND POSSIBLY FOUND A NEW THING TO ADD TO YOUR LIST IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN/HEARD/READ BEFORE. Thanks anon for the ask!
Oh yeah and as extra I wanted to throw in my favorite song right now because IT'S REALLY PRETTY.

Before the day of retirement comes, she wants to continue searching for a new Yuzuka Rei —— Flower Troupe Top Star Yuzuka Rei
(Note: This is a translation from no.85 of the STAGE Navi magazine.)
One and only presence established in "Singing Lovebirds"
Flower Troupe Top Star Yuzuka Rei – who has a unique beauty and radiating, vibrant aura – announced her retirement, which will be on May 26 2024 in the Takarazuka Revue 110th Anniversary. Her presence alone holds those who watch her captive, the evidence of how unparalleled a star she is.
Earlier ago, the Flower Troupe performance "Singing Lovebirds" "GRAND MIRAGE!" was performed in Tokyo Takarazuka Theatre and was received with great acclaim, and it was a performance that only Yuzuka was capable of delivering. "Singing Lovebirds" is a masterpiece operetta film released in 1939 starring Kataoka Chiezō, which became a Takarazuka performance with the addition of more stories into the musical. Using the original soundtrack from the stage, but with western music in this periodical piece, it adds mismatching and interesting flavour. In addition, there's the awkward love story between the protagonist Asai Reisaburou and his neighbour's daughter Oharu (played by Hoshikaze Madoka), how the antique-enthusiast lord Minezawa Tanba no Kami (played by Towaki Sea) wrecks havoc and causing this all a funny story. You could see this is a story packed with gorgeous happiness.
"The same soundtrack is used from the original movie, but I was surprised after all that this movie was produced before the war, and I believe that this was quite innovative, and thus wanted to deliver it as such in the performance. The songs of genres of western music that I have been singing so far are vary different, so my task every day was to enjoy singing these songs, aiming to sing them with a certain kind of flavour and nuance. You could feel the role Reisaburou is someone who has faced some great struggles and setbacks from his lines, and he's not an adventurous person. The story doesn't involve many major incidents either, and comparatively it's a story mainly focusing on interactions with people, so I want to relax a bit, and act as I normally am without changing too much and feel this role on stage. In that sense, it's very difficult. Because I felt how high the hurdle was to make the acting stand out and make the character more dimensional, but I did my best believing that I was able to do this acting well because of this particular timing [I've encountered this musical]."
In her previous musical "Mayerling" and "A Battlefield for the Two of Us", with her profound observations in her roles, she strongly demonstrated the complicated emotions and conflicts faced by those characters, but this time it was refreshing to see Yuzuka become quieter instead, that you could feel immersed by how she portrays those delicate feelings. Also, without Yuzuka's presence, you could tell the performance could hardly be completed, so that strengthens her presence as a star.
"First of all, I feel very honoured to take on Kataoka Chiezō-san's role, and truly felt how difficult this is. [The impression on] Reisaburou already stems from his presence alone, so it's not something that could be done simply. It's hard but I want to convey that kind of impression, and gradually I started feeling Reisaburou's temperature and tone to my own. I think if I did Reisaburou 1-2 years ago, it would be much harder."
Immersed in the spirit of the Romantic Revue "GRAND MIRAGE!"
You could never get bored from Yuzuka in this charismatic periodic operetta from her doing fight choreography barefoot and wearing kinagashi style; to going down to the audience and singing. Together with that is the Romantic Revue "GRAND MIRAGE!", where she debuts wearing a military uniform while wearing a turban in the new "(The) Faraway MIRAGE" scene, showcasing the ultimate otokoyaku image and inviting the audience to the illusionary world.
"I have many scenes I like from "GRAND MIRAGE!". 'The Faraway MIRAGE" scene is similar to the classic ballet scenes that I had danced since I was small. When I was able to personally feel this beautiful world that younger me saw from the stage, it was distinctly precious that it felt like returning back to my roots, to feel the beauty and classical world view of this fantasy story. And because it was a classical scene, it was a firm scene where I could fully utilise all of my hands, head and whole body to dance in this scene. I loved the piece and arrangement of this scene, and even though this is just a scene from the revue, I performed this scene, hoping the audience's imagination to be inspired in thinking this was like a short film. I also liked other scenes like the chuuzume CIBONE scene and the Bolero duet dance, all of these are nothing but the essence of a 'Romantic Revue'. There are essential techniques, and a person's sense of using their body becomes noticeable in that space, so that is interesting but intimidating at the same time. Movement does not equate to huge momentum, but it's about the quality of using body muscles correctly to show noble and elegant impression on the choreography. It doesn't work well unless the energy of controlling your nerves is well maintained and circulated. During the revue, I would say I've made use of this "hidden energy"."
The path she has walked by is all created by Yuzuka Rei now
Yuzuka is nuanced in her brilliant dance with excellent techinque, and she gave an explanation that is easy to understand.
She has been the Flower Troupe Top Star for 4 years and more. Ever since she announced retirement, when she stood on stage, she surprisingly noted that there weren't drastic changes.
"I'm contained with overwhelmed feelings of gratitude and happiness, that every one of the performances are important to me, that I cherish them like my treasure and living each day with happiness, and even now that has not changed much either. I think that must be affected by the timing of when I started becoming a lead role. That was the time when the pandemic just started, and I feel that the lessons and memories each performance gave me were more than I ever imagined, and those have become my blood and flesh into who I am now.
From November 28 onwards, the Yuzuka Rei Special Concert "BE SHINING!!–A Glamorous Time" hopes to connect the past steps of Yuzuka and Yuzuka's future, a concert that bears much expectations.
"There will be my favourite roles, favourite performances, how I acted them with much determination, delivering the energy that only I could at that time. But personally I felt that I want to sing these songs again; I want to emphasize more on a certain portrayal; I'm very motivated and excited to show to the audience what charms I could demonstrate. (Fujii) Daisuke-sensei was the first to give me a named role, the stage genie Fie (in "Le Paradis!!–Saintful Time–" in 2011) and I look forward to reprising the role again in the concert. At that time I was still in my 3rd year and I didn't know anything but just performed while being so absorbed in my role, you could say that Takarasiennes are like fairies, and by returning to my roots to challenge becoming a fairy again makes me very happy. Now by using what I have nurtured – the sense of beauty, the heart for acting, the sense for the techniques and music – I want to create a Fie that only the Yuzuka Rei now can portray. Besides, there will also be other numbers [scenes] we'll be singing, I hope this shows a new side of Yuzuka and creating these scenes for you to revisit Yuzuka's performances once again."
We also want to hear from her graduating performance in the Takarazuka Revue 110th Anniversary "Arc~en~Ciel: The Rainbow Over Paris".
"When I first heard about the title, I was very pleased. Also I realised that my last otokoyaku role name would be Marciel. That thought stuck with me, and I was glad. The day before, I was going to have the poster photoshoot, the scriptwriter and director Koike (Shuuichiro)-sensei asked me to depict a challenging impression to the role, so I already found it interesting. The picture was one that conveyed truly the essence of how France was then. I hope to deliver a performance that everyone would go, "Wow, so this is how it looks!?" That's also what I want to firmly follow how Koike-sensei's instructions would be."
We don't want to miss any bit of Yuzuka, who continues to evolve before her day of retiring from Takarazuka Revue. Finally, Flower Troupe Top Star Yuzuka Rei leaves a message.
"Every day, I feel so thankful that when I'm on stage and see the audiences' faces, I truly feel that we are spending time together. I feel very sorry for those who are unable to see the performances during the pandemic, and I continue to feel so even to this day. But this time has been so fulfilling. I always received and learnt things I couldn't have expected from the audience. Even for our Flower Troupe members, we care for each other, everyone is generous and kind, and times where we grit our teeth and ultimately overcame things together. Looking back from 4 years ago, Flower Troupe members thought about themselves and took action, so they were very reliable. Now, as I recall this path I've been walking on, my heart instantly feels so warm by these memories. Before the day of my graduation, I will continue pursuing for my favourite kind of otokoyaku image, and will cherish every day to make each of them worth."
Yuzuka's recommendation! — Foliage plants
I've been collecting many foliage plants, so my makeup desk in the dressing room is a sea of greens (laughs). I have three kinds – the "dangling" type, the flowers that my parter Hoshikaze (Madoka) gave me and potted plants. I like flowers too, but I like foliage plants because they are grown from the spoil and I don't have to cut it as much. But, underclassmen sometimes give me plants as presents, and I thought that it's great feeling these greenery around. It's good for the eyes, it heals the heart and it's great for the air! I like to be surrounded in the forrest and grasses, but I wasn't able to go abroad a lot, inner-greens also make me happy. Everyone, please [check them out] (laughs)!

I saw Avatar Way of the Water (spoilers)
Let’s get a few things straight.
The goddamn death flags on my boy Neteyam who was the older brother who has to look after his rambunctious and mischievous younger brother. We’ve seen it before but goddamn did I wish it didn’t happen. The fact that one of the last scenes was Jake and Neytiri visiting him through Eywa.
The way Jake just kept taking all his stress out on Lo’ak because of his desperation to keep everyone safe and feeling everything spiralling out of control to the point he doesn’t see his son for who he is and what he is doing and the fact that beyond the start of the film, he follows almost every single order his father gives him, bar one’s that impact people he cares for… but then at the end when Payakan helps Lo’ak and Jake reach the surface, he finally looks over at his son and sees him. Not their circumstances. Not the consequences of their situation. But his son.
Are we trying to imply Kiri is Jesus??? Like Grace’s avatar is randomly pregnant when the last we see her, she’s with Eywa??? Bc she doing something psychic…
First movie was heavy on the colonialism. We continue that through line in the further plundering of natural resources and destruction of habitat… and the obviously blatant disparaging of the whaling business…
Love that the Metkayina were heavily inspired by the Māori culture… the tattoos on both the Metkayina and the tulkun, to whom the Metkayina have strong kin ties… giving me Whale Rider vibes. Which is fun because Tonowari, the chief of the Metkayina is played by Cliff Curtis who is in Whale Rider.
kinda hilarious to me then that the main harpoon dude is Australian. Glad Payakan ripped that POS arm off as retribution.
Neytiri is a death goddess. Like bro when she mounts her ikran after Neteyam’s death, her eyes and stance just screams she’s out for blood. And was v worried she was gonna kill Spider. I hope that’s a relationship that improves because I don’t want Spider to have any reason to be crawling back to Quaritch bc Neytiri is shunning him.
I also really appreciate Ronal. Badass pregnant lady. Tonowari goes “you should stay” Ronal snarls back “I will ride!” Ain’t nothing gonna stop her!
Finally. Tuk is baby. Protect my snarling lil child at all costs.
There were a lot of familiar beats to this film story wise, and it did feel like one big set up to the follow up movies. The narration was a bit much bc you can’t explain it as Jake talking into the video logs anymore so it just got inserted a few too many times. And yes it felt a touch too long but we also barely spent anytime just immersing in the new part of Pandora we had just been introduced to. Especially after we so abruptly ran away from the Omaticaya and Jake stepped down as chief. I was genuinely upset when they stopped the montage of them learning the ways of the Metkayina to take in more of Quaritch terrorising villages and hunting tulkun.
But overall I think it was a very well done film. The ending hit hard. There were scenes that were just gorgeous to look at. I loved that different Na’vi have evolved differently to other Na’vi depending on their environment. But you see the similarities in culture, you see that they still have the spirit tree which ties them to the Great Mother, Eywa. So you’re eased into this new place along with the Sully’s because there are some things that are familiar, even if we’re no longer travelling through the trees. I’m curious to see how Jesus!Kiri becomes a thing. I hope no more deaths in the Sully clan because Neteyam was already too much.

hey! Hope this isn’t annoying or to much but I would love it if you wrote a hcs for the jackass cast dating a female cast member, who is the craziest one, she’s done for anything and everything no matter how weird, dangerous, or insane it is. i guess pretty much a girl who is like johnny and steve o combined. I see to many ones with girls who are shy or scared, and they are so boring. can’t wait to see what you write, even if it’s not this!
YES OHMYGOSH whenever i imagine a female jackass member, she's always batshit insane and i love it so much- for these hcs, i did johnny, bam, and steve-o but if you want to see some others then i'll do them asap
RECKLESS CREW MEMBER!S/O
JOHNNY KNOXVILLE !!
you guys are fucking terrifying oh my god-
okay but let's start with the fact that nobody was surprised when you ended up together. like, you both do so many stunts together because you're both up for anything that it was only a matter of time before you started dating.
whether it's the classic johnny knoxville or the gorgeous silver foxville, this man has no shame and with loudly say the most inappropriate shit when you do a dangerous stunt.
"my ding ding's harder than a turnbuckle" is automatically associated with you bleeding in some way atp.
that being said, he gets really worried about you when you do some of the crazier stunts .
you'd 100% be jeff's fav because you're down for anything, but he could honestly go without johnny clinging to his arm like a worried mother when you're in the bull ring.
overall, 10/10 power couple ( unhinged version )
BAM MARGERA !!
he thinks you're crazy hot but, like, in a psychopathic way
like, he knows your batshit insane and that's one of the main reasons he finds you so hot if that makes sense
pls make fun of him for throwing up easily, idc if you aren't much better, he gets so pissy and it makes for great content
another one who's scared for you but will also be the one suggesting you for death-defying stunts most of the time
97% of the time, if someone other than jeff volunteers you for a stunt, it's bam
the other three percent is probably johnny because nobody else wanted to do the stunt and he played it off as if you were the first choice
bam doesn't volunteer you out of spite or a want to see you nearly snap your neck, he just does it because he knows you can handle it and knows you'll love the footage that comes out of the stunt — regardless as to whether or not you get fucking ragdolled
i can see you and jeff rubbing your hands together like scheming flies when you plan a but where you're working with snakes that are kind of wrapped around your arms and you're totally chill about it, but bam gets called in and loses his shit
overall, 9/10 he's heart eyes 24/7 but an instigating little shit
STEVE-O !!
oh he gets so happy when he finds out your down to do any stunt
will definitely bring you along for wildboyz and will refuse to comment on you showing him up on stunts and shit
yk that one scene in 3.5 (i think??) where he says that when filming wildboyz, he refused to do a bungee jump? you definitely did that instead of him just for funsies
i mentioned it in the bam segment, but you'd both do so many wildboyz bits with animals and you'd both eat shit nearly every time but you don't care because it's funny
i can see you both getting really competitive over who can do the most disgusting thing and not hurl when everyone's drunk at someone's house...
spike probably intervened after you snorted a line of salt and pepper off of ryan's ass
overall, 9 and a half/10 purely because you'd both be incredibly scary to be around and idk if that's a good thing or not

hi, i'm the disney choruses anon - thank you for answering me! imo all the choral endings are lovely in their own way, i.e. the tune of the b&b ending was beautiful and i loved that it featured gorgeous stained glass art of belle and adam which was a great callback to the wonderful opening, and of course the sleeping beauty chorus is iconic - it even got the chance to briefly shine during once upon a dream so when we hear it again, it's like we're greeting an old friend (plus the super endearing blue vs. pink dress switching during aurora and philip's dance!!). also as i mentioned the tlm chorus is beautiful in its ending too with ariel and triton finally reconciled, and all the merpeople celebrating this new alliance between their bright-eyed princess and this brave prince who put his life on the line to defeat ursula...
personally i'm especially biased toward the bambi ending bc the shot of our protagonist striking a lone, majestic figure, having at last lived up to his destiny as king of the forest, always spoke to me considering how we'd seen him grow up from such a delicate creature as a baby (who could barely even stand on his own!) and enduring so much hardship, to the strong, dignified adult he'd become :]
and most of all the cinderella ending was always my #1 favorite, not just bc cinderella was my fav princess and movie but also bc i was so moved as a little kid seeing this sincere, dignified, steadfast girl who'd been ostracized and isolated by her remaining family for most of her life until then, finally being celebrated by not just the connections she made (i.e. her animal friends and the royal family) but by the very narrative itself. as a kid it seemed almost as if divine or supernatural forces were cheering for her all along from the sidelines (as the fairy godmother's appearance in the story confirmed) and now they finally can show themselves without holding back by singing her praises... does that make sense?? anyway i really think the 2D animated films from disney before the mid-00s were truly works of art and products of much love and care that we might not ever see again, thanks for taking the time to read all this lol!!
I love that you brought up Bambi- one of my favorite songs of all time is in that film property and I think the soundtrack is criminally underrated. All of the Disney Greats- Mary Costa included, of course- performed at the Hollywood Bowl in the early 2000s to sing music from Bambi and they even all began to belt When You Wish Upon a Star together at the end of it. I hope against hope that they'll use it for Once Upon a Studio, but I know they're definitely using a new recording featuring a majority of the voice replacements but...I can dream lol
The way you write about the Cinderella ending is so beautiful and you really get it 🥲 the divine and supernatural line reminds me of how you mentioned the chorus singing Once Upon a Dream being like an old friend. The chorus also sings a reprise of A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes where Cinderella is literally responding to the voices and shutting them down, not abiding by the message anymore. It really does feel like a connection and a way that they're gently nudging her to continue going onward- only, since this is her low point, she needs a little more comfort- which materializes in the Fairy Godmother stroking her hair. I just love how you expressed them being her guardian angels, essentially, and the undertones of their presence in her life before it fully materialized. It brings so many beautiful images and feelings to my mind...in a world where people are too easy to dismiss their actions on external factors, I think it's so touching that Cinderella literally has no one there for her, no good influence or person to help her or show her love, and that's still not an excuse, she proactively rises above her surroundings- she continues to be the best person she possibly can be, even when it feels like she'll never "get anything back" from the universe. The fact that she got her Happily Ever After, in the face of every possible adversity, should renew everyone with hope and makes me feel like not all is lost, even with the things I get frustrated in. Again, thank you so much for telling me how you feel- it's the most beautiful writing I've read in a while💗

Worked up
For the few that still read Cody writings
This idea popped into my head and I just kinda ran with it
18+
Warnings: talks of sexual activity, implied sexual activity, making out, taking clothes off, the word “hell” is used. Let me know if I missed any!
You’re sitting on set, scrolling through your phone. You wanted something to distract yourself from your nerves. You had an intimate scene to film with Cody and you have been nervous about it since you first read the script. You have had intimate scenes with Cody before but it never went any further than kissing. Now your characters have decided to take the next step and this is what the writers wanted. It wasn’t having to do the scene with Cody that made you nervous, you were very comfortable with him having been dating for the past 2 years. It was doing the scene in front of the crew. This was your first intimate scene and you had no idea if you would be any good, if it would be awkward having to act everything out, if you could make it believable. There were so many concerns running through your mind.
“Hey, are you ready? I think they want to get started soon.” You looked up to see Cody smiling at you. “Yeah, I think so. I want to get this over with.” You said with a nervous laugh. “Baby” he said while cupping your face “If you really don’t want to do this, let’s talk to the writers. I don’t want you to do anything you’re not comfortable with.” “No, I want to do this. I’m nervous as hell but I think it’s important for our character’s development. I also want my first intimate scene to be with someone I am 100% comfortable with.” You smiled and kissed his cheek. He looked at you with an unsure look. “I’m good, I promise.” You smiled and went over to let the directors know you were good to go.
Your legs are wrapped around Cody’s waist, arms around his neck. He has one hand on your back and the other on your thigh, holding you up. This part is fun for you, you get to make out with your boyfriend for work. As Cody makes his way over to the bed on the set that is meant to be your character’s room, you start to get a little nervous again because you know it’s really about to start. Cody feels you tense up a bit. Luckily it wasn’t enough for the camera to see so you two kept the scene going. Cody lays you down on the bed and gets on top of you. He kisses your neck and whispers “Pretend they’re not here. Close your eyes and imagine it’s you and me at home.” You close your eyes as he continues to kiss down your neck to your collarbone. He stops just long enough to take your shirt off then starts to kiss down your chest and to the waistband of your jeans. He takes your jeans off too, quickly taking a moment to take in how gorgeous you are. “I think we have to even out the playing field.” You say your line, in a flirty way. Cody smirks and takes off his shirt and pants too.
The next scene is you two under the sheets together. You’re lying in the bed, sheet covering your bare chest, completely zoned out. “Are you ready for the next scene?” A voice breaks you out of lala land. You blink a couple times and look over to see the director. “Yeah, I’m ready!” You say, actually excited for the next scene. “Great! Keep up the great work. That last scene was amazing. You two have great chemistry!” He says giving you a smile and walking over to Cody to see if he is ready too. Cody got into the bed next to you. Your head is on his chest, hand drawing mindlessly on his abs as your characters enjoyed the post coital bliss. “I know we were just as close as physically possible but somehow this moment feels more intimate.” You jokingly gasped “Is tough guy Theo going soft on me?” You said and smirked to yourself knowing he would probably make a sarcastic comment himself. “Soft for you? Never. Actually, I’m ready for round 2 if you are.” He said you looked up at him to see him wink and you couldn’t help but giggle at what he said. Cody rolled on top of you and started to kiss you again, implying that your characters were about to go for round two.
“How are you feeling about the scenes?” Cody asked as he sat in your trailer, waiting for you to finish gathering your things so you two could go home. “I’m actually really excited to see how they turn out on screen. I think the TW fanbase is going to love this new step our characters have taken together. I do want to thank you though. You helped ease my nerves and got me into the right mindset for the scenes. So thank you baby.” You said and leaned in to give him a kiss. “I’m so happy you’re happy with everything and I could make you feel comfortable.” He said giving you another kiss. “Now lets go home because those scenes got me really worked up and all that has been running through my mind since has been the image of you in that lingerie you were wearing.” Cody said, shifting in his seat a bit. “Say no more.” You grinned and you both left to go home.

Kung Fu Panda 4 (2024) review
Tumblr media
Jack Black’s new version of “Hit Me Baby One More Time” is great. In all honestly all of Tenacious D’s covers are superb. Their take on “I Think I Love You” for Croods 2 slaps as hard as Will Smith’s palm against Chris Rock’s face. Apologies, I just watched the new Bad Boys trailer so that momentary awards moment has sprung back into my mind.
Plot: After Po is tapped to become the Spiritual Leader of the Valley of Peace, he needs to find and train a new Dragon Warrior, while a wicked sorceress plans to re-summon all the master villains whom Po has vanquished to the spirit realm.
For some reason I presumed Kung Fu Panda 3 was the ending to the trilogy and the story was over. Then again Hollywood wants to keep making more money and this animated franchise has been highly successful for DreamWorks till now, so of course it was only a matter of time. To give them props though, DreamWorks has been on a bit of a hot streak recently with The Bad Guys - a visually-pleasing heist flick; Croods 2 - hilarious riot; this year’s Orion and the Dark - a fun concept with a mind-bending ending; and of course Puss in Boots: The Last Wish which is an animated masterpiece. There, I said it. The Puss in Boots sequel is fantastic and I won’t hear otherwise! As such even though the trailers weren’t showing too much promise, I went into Kung Fu Panda 4 optimistically, hoping it’s not just a needless cash-grab.
Right, yep, it’s a cash-grab through and through. You can tell the writers were really trying to milk some kind of an idea for a plot, and all they could come up with is Po needing to find a new Dragon Warrior in his place. Not the most original concept as is, and one that in the end feels really rushed, and his choice for his replacement is one that feels unsatisfying. The main villain also is really weak. A chameleon voiced by Viola Davis, and though visually the shape-shifting gimmick works really well, narratively this character has hardly anything to do, let alone be in any way intimidating. I recall in one of the previous films the villain was Lord Shen, who was introduced as someone who has killed Dragon Warriors before. What’s the scariest thing this chameleon now does, you may ask? She lightly pushes someone down the stairs. That’s it.
Another rushed aspect of the movie is that many voice actors from the previous films are needlessly ditched either with a lame excuse for their absence, or not giving them any lines and the characters appearing in silence. Like a big selling point in the marketing is that we get to see all the villains from the previous entries come back. A fun idea, however aside from Ian McShane as Tai Lung the other villains only appear as if they’re in a silent movie. Are you telling me that DreamWorks really couldn’t afford to get Gary Oldman to record a couple of lines on his phone and send them over? It’s like if Spider-Man: No Way Home had all the old Spidey villains from previous films come back, but they just stand about silently doing nothing. How crap would that have been? So yes, this really cheapens the movie.
Visually the film looks great. It’s mad to see how the animation has progressed as this series of movies has gone further. Particular attention has been given to the background environments that look gorgeous! Great use of colours and detail. A chase sequence through a city of thieves is a particular eye-popping set piece, that even gives Hans Zimmer the small opportunity to have some fun with the music score during it.
As for the voice cast - Jack Black is a charisma machine! He’s an icon and of course Po is just Jack Black being himself, but he has so much energy in his line delivery that he carries this movie fully on his shoulders. Awkwafina is also in this movie. Look, the reason I’m pointing that out is that if one looks at her filmography since 2019 she’s voiced characters in Little Mermaid, Migration, Kung Fu Panda 4, Bad Guys, SpongeBob: The Movie, Raya and the Last Dragon, The Dark Crystal Netflix series, Angry Birds Movie 2…. That’s so much!! What does she have on these animation studios that they keep hiring her? She’s not the only female voice actor out there. And I’m sorry, she’s not even that great of a voice actress, and I wasn’t a fan of her here either. Dustin Hoffman kind of just lingers about questioning his life, Bryan Cranston and James Hong have some amusing co-dads banter, Ian McShane being back as Tai Lung was lovely, and Ke Huy Quan is the usual ball of excitable energy that he always is.
Unlike Puss in Boots where the wait for the sequel was more than worth it, Kung Fu Panda 4 feels as if the franchise may have run its course and the writers have simply ran out of ideas. There’s a “been there done that” aura surrounding this whole movie, and again it’s not terrible, but more so just passable. There’s nothing new here, simply retreading old territory. I’m sure if you take your kids with you to see it though they’ll probably have a good time. Probably. That “Hit Me Baby One More Time” cover though - hell yeah!
Overall score: 5/10

Disney's upcoming movie, Wish, features a main character that is very much like the studio's other recent heroines, and this has invited significant criticism. Though not technically a princess, Wish's Asha feels like the next in the long line of female House-of-Mouse protagonists. The film's trailer features the girl singing to the stars in classic Disney fashion, followed by a few moments of quirky clumsiness. It's the sort of "adorkable" character that audiences have come to expect from the studio's heroines, and that's exactly the problem.
With the recent complaints that Disney has begun to stray too far from the elements that once made it great, Wish seems to be the studio's attempt to get back to the basics. The trailer features a traditional (less sympathetic) villain, a nod to 2D animation, a heroine with an animal sidekick, and what could be more Disney than making a wish on a star? In all, Wish seems like the animated movie many have been waiting years for. However, there is a particular aspect of Wish that is precisely the same as recent Disney movies like Encanto, Frozen, Moana, and Tangled—the heroine's personality.
Tumblr media
In the last decade or so, Disney has changed its Princess archetype. Rather than a princess with her head in the clouds, the protagonists of movies like Encanto and Moana are brave, eager to prove themselves, and a little quirky. They are clumsy, socially awkward, and unsure of themselves for most of the film. In Frozen, Anna stumbles all over herself, runs into Prince Hans, and awkwardly babbles about how "gorgeous" he is. In Tangled, Rapunzel knocks herself in the head with a frying pan. In Moana, the hero of Motunui awkwardly pretends she hears someone calling her to get herself out of a confrontation.
Now, Wish seems to be continuing the trend with its newest heroine. Right at the trailer's beginning, Asha rushes out onto a stage, screaming that she's "here" and clumsily telling the crowd she must catch her breath. Later, she is seen demonstrating some goofy martial arts for the king. In all, the new Disney heroine looks like a lot of fun, and the idea here is clearly a type of comedy aimed at children. However, it's difficult to ignore that when it comes to her personality, Asha feels the same as her recent Disney predecessors. This has become known as the "adorkable" princess trope, and it's beginning to grind on some audiences.

Characters like Moana, Anna, Raya, Merida, Mirabel, and Disney's newest, Asha, are undoubtedly adorable, relatable, and a lot of fun, but the fact that they all have incredibly similar personalities has invited criticism. Disney has been accused of lazy writing since a cookie-cutter character is taking the place of a well-thought-out and unique heroine. At the worst, it can be considered misogynistic since the implication is that all girls and women have this personality type.
Still, these complaints are on the more extreme end of the spectrum. The most common assumption seems to be that Disney struck gold with a couple of "adorkable" heroines and has, therefore, been mass-producing as many as possible. This is especially frustrating with Wish since the studio has marketed the film as a return to the good old days, with 2D animated backgrounds and a villain that won't be redeemed in the end (like Raya and the Last Dragon, Moana, and Encanto).
Disney has followed through with its promises in many ways, but the studio seems stuck on this worn-out character archetype.

AOT parents and Disney movies
Official WD animation only
What they want to watch vs the movie that gets played repeatedly.
Erwin - He's the old school dad and would love to watch Fantasia, but his toddler does not appreciate it like he does. Instead, The Emperor's New Groove is on daily. Erwin is finally starting to laugh at the jokes, and loves Yzmas "is that, my voice?" line.
Levi - If he has to pick, maybe Dumbo, since he gets a happy ending with his mother. Just no Bambi. His kid puts on Lilo and Stitch. Levi is all about Ohana, and likes the Elvis songs. They're not getting a dog, though.
Miche - Give him The Jungle Book. Baloo, King Louie, the Vultures, he knows the lines. His kid likes it when dad does the lines, but otherwise? It's Cinderella. Miche is willing to play the stepsisters for laughs.
Eren - Give him Atlantis, give him Treasure Planet, he wants adventure! Actually gets to watch Snow White. Doesn't know how this happened, but accepts it nonetheless. Likes Dopey at any rate.
Armin - He loves the animation of Sleeping Beauty. The whole thing is gorgeous. He gets to watch lots of Peter Pan as his kid loves pirates. That came out around the same time so it's not that bad.
Jean - Says he wants to watch Lion King. Feels like a Simba most the time. What's actually getting played, is Tangled (tell me you didn't see that coming) but when he gets told he's reminded of Flynn, he enjoys the film a little more.
Connie - Oliver and Company is his jam, the songs are fun and he loves dogs. And yet, The Aristocats rule in his house. Turns out he's a cat person too and he likes the songs in it as well.
Reiner - He likes The Sword in the Stone. He likes the setting, the characters, and the Wizards Duel. His child loves The Little Mermaid, though, and he happily watches it with them everyday.
Porco - Just wanted to watch Aladdin. Has great sidekicks and an awesome villain. Gets stuck with Alice in Wonderland. Doesn't understand it at all but likes croquet match part.
Hange - Give them Big Hero Six or Meet the Robinsons. Tech, inventors? Yes please! Turns out Wreck it Ralph is on all the time, but they enjoy it just as much!
Mikasa - Loves the story of Mulan and thinks it's a good influence. Turns out it is and she and her child watch it all the time. However, they also like the sequel, and Mikasa cringes every time.
Annie - Don't tell anyone, she likes Frozen. Elsa is the ice queen, after all. The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh gets put on, and she finds she likes Rabbit a lot. Tigger however, needs to calm down.
Sasha - Loves Robin Hood due to the archery involved and the comedic villains. Her kid gets her to watch Hercules and she likes the action, fantasy and jokes just as much. Plus Meg is awesome.
Historia - Does like Cinderella the most. Who doesn't dream of being a princess when they're little? Her kid likes Moana and she likes the characters willingness to ask for help and confront her enemy after losing hope.
Ymir - Wants to watch Tarzan. Doesn't know if she likes Tarzan, Jane, or Clayton the most. Winds up watching The Rescuers and finds herself rooting for Bianca and Bernard against that crazy mad Medusa and her crocs.
Pieck - Quite likes Beauty and the Beast. Doesn't think Belle is odd at all, and loves the songs. Lady and the Tramp it is though, and she likes the old classic feel of it. Does NOT like Aunt Sarahs cats.
-------
Made kind of quick, hope you like it! Do you think these are accurate? What would YOU watch?
Maybe we'll do a mini Pixar version?
