3 Little Wins That Make Road Trips With My Dog a Lot Easier

Not every trip has to be perfectly planned. I’ve taken my border collie, Luna, on enough road trips now to know that it’s the small adjustments—not just the gear or destination—that often make the biggest difference.

Here are 3 things I started doing recently that have seriously improved our time on the road together.

1. Packing Less Food, More Treats

I used to pre-pack way too much kibble “just in case.” But Luna rarely eats a full meal when we first arrive somewhere new—she’s too excited or overstimulated.

Now, I pack the essentials but lean more on high-reward treats during travel days. It keeps her focused during pit stops and helps her settle into a new place with a positive mood.

2. Using a Soft Crate at Night

For longer trips, I bring a foldable soft crate. It gives Luna a familiar “den” to rest in, especially if we’re staying somewhere new like a cabin or hotel.

She knows the crate = safe space. It makes transitions easier, and it helps both of us sleep better when we’re in new surroundings.

3. Morning Walk = Game Changer

Whether it’s a rest stop, parking lot, or quick trail nearby, I make sure we take a short walk every morning before driving again. It helps Luna burn off some mental energy and gives me time to breathe before getting back on the road.

Even 10 minutes makes a huge difference. No more whining, pacing, or restless rides.

I know these aren’t groundbreaking tips, but if you travel with your dog regularly, you’ll get it. The little things stack up—and honestly, they’ve helped me enjoy the journey just as much as the destination.

As some people know Tails is 1000% capable of taking out a full army and killing them on his own as we've seen with the Kukku army.

Sonic knows this but he also doesn't like his little brother going on a killing sprees.

So Sonic made a code phrase and hammered it into baby Tails' head that Tails could not do all THAT again unless Sonic said the phrase.

Tails didn't go full Predator mode during Forces because he was convinced Sonic was still alive and never said the phrase that lets Tails go buckwild.

One day their against either Eggman or some other big ol' villain and they're loosing bad bad.

Sonic turns to Tails and says the phrase.

All of their friends look on in horror, fascination, and proud awe(Shadow), as this sweet 8 year old they all know and love goes from adorable little guy to unstoppable killing machine with weaponry they didn't even know he had on him.

They look to Sonic for answers to "what the fuck and where the fuck did all that come from???!!!"

And Sonic provides no other answers then "He was like that before I found him"

For today's pride month post, let's talk about white tailed deer!

Now these guys actually surprised me, did you know up to 15% of white tailed deer are intersex? There are deer that are born with both sex organs, females that grow antlers, and even what's known as Velvethorns.

A normal buck will shed it's velvet from late August to early September, but velvet horns never she'd their velvet. As a buck's testosterone level rises as they get ready for mating season their antler's harden and their velvet is shed.

So why doesn't this happen to velvet horns?

Depending on the reason, be it birth defect, or some sort of truama to the testicles, these guys just never get that testosterone boost. It also leads to them having an appearance more similar to a doe than a buck.

They tend to shy away from male or female groups, instead forming herds with other velvet horns, they've even been known to adopt orphaned fawns!

Even the hunting community knows about these deer, some states actually having them tag the deer as "antlered" or "antlerless" to avoid any confusion!

He was bummed that he missed the festival but that was his luck for you. Ayumu said it had gone well so he couldn't complain, too much at least. He took a deep breath and stepped out of the converted warehouse a bit of pep in his step. It was good to be on home turf again, the smile was cheeky as he took off down the street at a good pace. Elliot waved to some neighbors he knew but kept going as he headed deeper into the area.

dude, Epic the musical has been frying my brain, and all I'm thinking about is a Keitor au: with Lotor as Odysseus and Keith as Penelope, and it's been years after Team Voltron and Team Sincline split up. The war against the empire ended, yet Lotor finds him elf fighting every day for the past 10 years to be reunited with his lover :(

That time of year again! I've got four trail cameras set up around my place at the moment (hoping to get some more soon!) and there are a TON of bucks hanging around this year. At least twenty different individuals. Big dudes, little dudes, wonky dudes, old dudes, dudes with one antler—just a bunch of guys being dudes!
