I love the buildup towards this part. Malleus was written as if he was intimated by Rollo during the fight, but then his mask of being "weak" falls off and its actually revealed that he is not intimidated by Rollo at all, in fact the way this scene's vibes gives off??? He was looking down at him, with his 'plans' and his stupid delusion about antagonizing him.

I love when TWST reminds us that Malleus is a king. ✨✨

He hides off this personality that he truly believes he's too superior than anything, that he's undefeatable.

Not gonna lie y'all, I think Malleus won't be defeated by the flowers, he emphasized this from the start, that he's fighting Rollo because the flowers will be problematic for Briar Valley, but not him yk.

Plus, this is Meleanor's kid😂 Mother didn't birth a weak dragon‼️

I think this part also mirrors in Book 7 where the Silver Owls was convinced they caught Meleanor but she just laughed at them and declared that they'll decimate every human in her sight for being insulting as to think they can ravage her land and defeat her lol.

Also the fact that Henry basically narrates her as if she's the villain of humanity by calling her a witch... It parallels to Rollo seeing Malleus (even though he didn't do anything) as the root of all evil yk.

Also possible theory for the Kind Bellringer and the Just Judge??? We all know that their story is written more peaceful here than the Disney movie.

But one thing that's strange is that No one knows what the Bellringer was fighting for even if he's considered a hero of Fleur City-- at the same time, we don't know how Rollo even got the flowers (aside from studying ancient flora)--- Basically, Fleur City lore has many plotholes and no one knows what it is and why is that-- Its like Briar Valley history...

We know the crimson flowers are a reference to the scene where Quasimodo released lava around the Notre Dame to prevent Frollo from entering....

What if in Fleur City as well,,,, Quasimodo (as the Kind Bellringer here) rebelled as well against the Just Judge (Frollo) as well?? But the Just Judge is instead credited as "the saviour of Fleur City" because the evidence of the Bellringer acrually being the saviour is burned up or smth, thats why Fleur City's history has many gaps in them...

Also the Just Judge being the actual villain in the history but remembered as a hero now because of misinformation.... It matches Rollo's punishment that he'll forever be complimented by the actions he didn't do, and its up to his guilt whether he can stand living as a fraud who actually harmed the same people thats highly regarding him rn.

In a way Rollo is what Idia wouldve become if he continued tormenting himself for Ortho's death alone...

He said to Rollo that "is removing magic what your brother wouldve wish?" I think thats very telling that even if its tragic that Robot Ortho's creation was fuelled by Idia's grief and defiance that Ortho is forever gone, it was suitable for Idia's pain to remind himself that Ortho wouldve wished he goes on... as is very telling of Book 6's ending about Ortho's refusal on Idia's suicide by going with him on the Underworld...

also because I think Rollo would need some person like Idia whos blunt for regular reality checks just so he wouldn't blinded by his delusion again and ransack the world 😭😭

CHP 6  :  marianne’s adventures in styx and what she found there following Riddle & Azul Path only covers up to Titan* beware some twst spoilers ahead

Marianne breaking herself out of phantom storage shortly before Riddle and Azul arrive.  she’s immediately in Queen of Rot mode,  as Marianne suffered enough duress that she remembers what she truly is.  so she doesn’t care at all if she hurts one of her subjects.  and that does mean she sees Idia and Ortho as unruly subjects who ought to be punished.  (  if I were so inclined,  I should have you fed to the Jabberwocky.  ) 

she does briefly interact with holo!Ortho,  in which he remarks that her reveal as a phantom was indeed a surprise.  it reminds him of a difficult game his brother did not like,  a game about souls and curses.  but he does remark that her ability to coexist with the others is proof enough that his idea can work.  Phantoms can coexist with humans.  however,  Marianne is not having it. ( it would be best to remove thine head from thy shoulders for all the trouble you’ve caused,  my dear.  even your brother isn’t worthy of being a shell for me. )

as she’s about to leave,  however,  Riddle and Azul make their arrival, they do have their little revelation talk.  this is where you’ve been,  what’s going on,  etc etc,  but Marianne is surprisingly curt with them.  they need to focus on their escape and not her person,  but she will accompany them further.  she does request that they limit their contact with her as the tears manifesting on her cheeks are caused by blot.  she does not want to cause them further duress.  (  for now,  consider me as a toxic flower.  should you touch me,  you may perish.  )

she does help with the phantom fights,  and does cannibalize the other phantoms.  she considers it like a recharge,  even though she doesn’t need it per se given how much blot is in the air.  truth be told,  though,  she has been running low since Jamil’s OB,  and practically empty since Vil’s OB.  she had no confirmation that she would survive as a human for much longer.

now she feels like she did back in Looking Glass,  which is to say she feels whole again.  she only briefly explains that she is aware she is an ideal situation,  a Phantom who,  after killing its original host,  was able to survive and coexist among humans.  however,  that was not the case,  and she has survived in Looking Glass because she was feeding off of the land’s overabundance of magic,  and Alice’s who were sacrificed to her until she was nurtured into Mary Ann. (  the will of the Red Queen allowed my survival and shaped me into who I am now.  now,  we must focus on ridding ourselves of this nonsense.  I expect a young Queen and a Sea Witch to see this through.  )

she does not stop them from bickering,  btw,  as it’s amusing and some soft part of Marianne wants to keep these memories.  seeing Azul and Riddle grow is precious. 

she also doesn’t fuss so much when Riddle attempts to protect Azul.  ( let them weaken her prey,  as the Queen should not be the first to make the move across the board.  )

she does,  of course,  consume every phantom they come across,  and the more she does that,  the more the Queen of Rot bleeds through.  she is a lot less like the Marianne they’ve seen in school who is gentle and kind,  too sweet for the school.  so when they fight too long,  she does threaten to turn them into Glass Soldiers.  (  you bicker as the Tweedles do,  and I’ve half a mind to take your freedom from you.  I think you would do best to remember,  you are but Glass Soldiers on this chessboard.  [ . . . ]  of course,  he would run ahead, why ever would he stay when you undermine him so,  Riddle?   )

when it comes to the human,  Marianne does stay away,  only because of what she senses and not because of Azul or Riddle’s constant bickering.  she does deal with Ortho,  again,  trying to persuade her to his and Idia’s side.  but she is very adamant that he is focusing too much on one freak chance without knowing anything about her origins.  and she does refuse to explain any further.  (  I was human, or so I believed myself to be.  )

with the titan of magma,  she does stay behind to deal with the phantom,  but comparatively,  she’s weaker than it.  for the time being,  though,  she is willing to sacrifice herself in this moment bc she’s still clinging to that glimpse of humanity she has left.  that which is Marianne vs that which is Mary Ann,  Queen of Rot. 

she doesn’t give them much of an advantage,  as she can only abuse her abilities as a Phantom for so long against something that ancient,  and she cannot just summon her Glass Soldiers without using what she’s consumed as fodder.  the risk is too high and could cause her to rupture and become a mindless phantom.  she can at least buy them a scarce few moments before even she must retreat.  and she cannot touch or be touched by that weapon without risking her own life.

when they achieve victory,  she makes a show of being alright,  even though cracks are starting to spider out across her chest.  but hey,  it’s not like they can see that.

once monster is defeated,  Marianne does keep her distance so that she can recoup without spreading her own blot.  gotta keep them safe from even herself.  and she does explain that she is still Marianne,  even if they don’t want to recognize her as such,  but she has no other name.  (  I regret to inform you,  but I am no Alice.  )

over the course of the 3 hour break,  Marianne does begin to look a little more put together,  almost like she does at NRC,  so she’s gained all her color back.  she does remark that Riddle is very cute when he sleeps,  and it reminds her of a very precious memory,  but that is a memory she won’t willingly expose.

while Riddle was sleeping,  she does answer several of Azul’s questions,  including how she came to be a Phantom  :

Alice Underhill was the second Alice to arrive in Wonderland,  however,  he entered through the Looking Glass,  and so entered the Looking Glass kingdom instead.  at the end of his journey,  he was granted the status of Queen by both the Red and White Queens.  he would be the newly crowned Black Queen,  Queen of the Black Chess Pieces.  only able to play the game so long as another Queen stepped down.  but Alice could not stay,  and so he left.  (  she also confirms that he was a student of RSA  )

Looking Glass time does not move for anyone but Alice,  as was the Red Queen / Queen of Heart’s decree,  so the length of time between his initial journey,  his return home,  and his return,  kept Looking Glass mostly stagnant.  but in that time,  Red Queen had learned much of Alice’s world,  and had grown maddeningly fixated on Overblot.  fixated as he was with the inevitable end for most mages,  he wanted to see what would happen should a being from outside Looking Glass overblot within the kingdom.  (  it is unnatural to Looking Glass under the Red Queen’s decree,  and therefore no being in his kingdom may overblot.  )

it was with such in mind that he forced Alice to abuse his unique magic / signature spell,  on top of causing him extreme duress  ( in the form of REGRET ).  it didn’t take long,  however,  before Alice OBs,  as external factors which had brought him back to Looking Glass had already tipped the scales.  the entity named Mary Ann did not manifest until after using several Alice’s as seed beds,  and latching onto the White Rabbit.  the White Rabbit was a core part of Wonderland /  Looking Glass,  acting as a gatekeeper.  he nurtured the Phantom into an idealized Alice,  eventually naming her and giving her the title of Queen.  the Red Queen,  however,  titled her as the Queen of Rot,  and all she touched in Looking Glass would corrupt with blot.

(  this is omitted :  he also fed her Riddle’s history,  which must have changed something within her,  and caused her to leave Looking Glass as Marianne,  a human with amnesia. )

she does confirm that she has no regrets about how she entered Twisted Wonderland,  and she does not regret kicking Crowley in the throat.  but she regrets that she has once more become a threat to everyone at NRC,  and she shall miss them when she finds the key back to Looking Glass.

(  I have come to treasure you all,  even if you are ungrateful,  and when all is said and done,  I shall not regret this,  though regret is what made me.  )

Ignihyde: Dormitory Analysis

Ah, Ignihyde. The dorm founded on the success of the King of the Underworld. Many people classify this dorm as a place for shut-ins, introverts, weebs, otakus, and internet addicts. They say that the people here rarely interact with the other dorms. And according to Cater, he says that the Shrouds who run the dorm are more mysterious than the seven wonders of NRC (not joking, he said that during chapter 5 auditions). But is it's residents all it's known for?

All dorms not only follow a patron, but also the moral that the patron represents. For example, Heartslybule's dorm patron, the Queen of Hearts, was known for her strict rules. Rules that the students under that dorm admire and follow. Octvinelle is based on the "pity" of the Sea Witch. Basically taking the opportunity when someone needs help, and helping them and yourself. Scarabia is founded by the cunning of the Sorcerer of Sand. The students in this dorm are very strategic in planning things out. Savannaclaw is known for brute strength and force, Pomefiore is known for their heavy efforts (and is currently the most analyzed dorm in the fandom), and Diasomia is known for it's elegance and talented mages.

But what is Ignihyde known for? All the residents that are shut-ins?

I hate it when this dorm is treated like a place where people can go "oh, so he's a weeb? Just toss him in with the others then." I mean, come on! You can still be a shut-in or a gamer and be in a different dorm like Octvinelle, or Diasomia (Azul's a shut-in, and Lilia's into gaming). Plus, not every student in Ignihyde is an introvert! (Ortho is an extroverted curious little thing that loves exploring and meeting new people, so...?) So, what is the backbone of this dorm? If you ended up there, it was for a reason right?

To begin, let's take a look at a different world.

There is a show I like to watch called RWBY. They are currently on their 8th volume with more episodes on the way. But for now, let's look at their world's (the world of Remnant) kingdoms.

There are four kingdoms: Vale, Vacuo, Minstrel, and the big one, Atlas. Each kingdom has it's own reputation, location, and general beliefs. Just because they don't agree with everything doesn't mean that they don't get along. Vale is about excepting things for what they are, as they seem to be a mix of all the other kingdoms. Minstrel is about art, learning, knowledge, basically elevation to a higher form of society. Vacuo is about strength, survival, being a strong individual. But Atlas is about change, adapting, thinking outside the box, being creative despite the limitations.

The locations of each kingdom influence their beliefs. Vale as in the middle of the world, in a valley surrounded by land and sea with a few surrounding islands, basically a small variety of everything. Minstrel is located in a similar terran, but they're in the east, they're environment is more asian so they have an art style heavily influenced by it's surroundings. Vacuo was built in an Owasis in the middle of a desert that was destroyed overtime, but the kingdom still remains.

Atlas was built in a tundra. A cold desolate wasteland with no life what so ever. So your probably thinking, why? Atlas is called the greatest kingdom, the most advanced kingdom because of their military power and highly developed technology. But here's the thing, they had to be the best, they had to be creative and advanced, because in a freezing wasteland with no other forms of life besides the animals of the north, they had to adapt in order to survive.

Now back to the twst verse. What does any of this have to do with Ignihyde?

I believe that the dorm shares the same moral as the kingdom of Atlas. Ignihyde is about adapting, creativity, flexible thinking in an environment with limits. How do I know?

Let's take a brief glance at the dorms locations. All of them.

Heartslybule is located somewhere lush and green, nothing to fancy, but pleasent non the less. Pomefiore is almost identical except it may have a nearby mountain terrain. Savannaclaw is on a savanna, not a lot, but some trees and bushes here and there, anything that can survive. Scarabia is similar but in a desert owasis, most plant life is native, though it could be imported. Octvinelle doesn't have plant life, but it has lots of coral underwater so that still counts. Heck, even Diasomia has thorns everywhere.

Ignihyde is underground, where nothing can grow without sunlight:

There is no life down here, as it's basically in an environment where nothing is supposed to remain. It's next to a glowing river, which is probably acidic or something. But unlike the other dorms structures and buildings, this area has limits as to what they can do with little space, hence why the dorm is built upside-down. Ignihyde's whole design was specifically crafted to exist in an impossible environment. At first I thought it was designed to scare off intruders, but I guess that's a bonus.

But it's not just about the structure, but also the students. I imagine there's a rule of nature stating that magic comes from living things, like plants, animals and people. If that's the case, then that adds another limit to the Ignihyde Dormitory: their environment is barren of magic, meaning that in this place magic is weaker and in some points, doesn't exist on it's own. You could still cast spells, sure, but it would take a lot more energy, and have less of an effect. So how do the students cope with magic limitations? They don't use magic. They use technology instead. And because it's the only thing they can use, it's been updated so much that it's centuries ahead of it's time. Which is why their dorm is so advanced. I also like to imagine that all of their stuff is powered by the river that surrounds their dorm, and that makes sense considering that the river is the only other thing in the terrain.

If you still think that adapting isn't an Ignihyde thing, then there is one more important factor that can confirm that it is. Hades himself.

In the traditional story, Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades drew lots to see what part of the world they would get. Zeus got the sky, Poseidon got the Sea, and Hades got the Underworld. I imagine this also applies to the Hercules movie. Hades was basically pushed out of heaven and into the Underworld. He didn't have the same things as the other Olympians did. He didn't have any friends, there wasn't a single living thing down their, and to him, it felt like he was banished. But what he didn't do was wine and complain, sure he took it all with a grain of salt, but instead he rolled up his sleeves and made do with what little he had.

You want a messenger like Hermes or Iris who can keep you informed about what you want to know? You don't get that, but you've got the Fates! They know everything, even the future! Board out of your immortal mind cause you've got no one else who can relate to your possition to talk to? Take up boardgames to take your mind off it all instead! Need a way to keep track of souls that come in cause you can't keep track of all 5,000,000,001+ entities? Boom! Build a machine that does the counting for you! Have to get something accomplished on the surface? Send your shape shifting imps to do the job for you!

See? Basically Hades overcame the challenges of living in the Underworld because he had to adapt in order to survive. Once he was stable enough in his domain, then he let his negative energy out on the other gods by plotting to overthrow them. Sure he survived the Underworld, but he still misses Olympus.

So even the dorm patron had to adapt in order to get through his challenges. Things like creativity, and thinking outside the box are things that are admired in this dorm. Even Hades had some creative power.

So to wrap things up, Ignihyde is about adapting, creativity despite the limits, and thinking outside the box. And it's about succeeding at doing it

1. You just woke up in a coffin trapped with this talking rat thing that swears he isn’t a tanuki. How do you actually react?

✦ Well that entirely depends on whether I’m aware of the fact I’m in a game or not. If I retain my knowledge of twst then I follow the game path (and accept that I have to live with the talking rat from now on). If this is all completely new to me then I would most likely go with the flow, I’d realise that something completely unnatural has happened and try to adapt to the situation. I’d also interrogate the talking rat thing and try to find out more information

2. Let’s pretend for a second that you’re not at the mercy of a magic mirror and incompetent bird dad, choose which dorm you would like to be a part of. Why, and do you think the mirror would agree?

✦ This is hard… I would choose to be part of Octavinelle, I mean… the visual design of the dorm rocks. Plus they do well in tests, so I could persuade my dormmates to tutor me. The mirror probably wouldn’t agree with me. I’ve taken a couple ‘What Twisted Wonderland dorm are you?’ type quizzes, and I usually get put in Heartslabyul. Maybe I should send someone a dorm sorting request and see what happens?

3. Going back to twst reality, where you don’t have magic and get sentenced to Ramshackle; what is your first thought upon seeing this safety hazard of a building? What’s the first thing you choose to fix there?

✦ My first thought is ‘no’. The first thing I choose to fix is the fact that I live there. Surely I can make a deal with Azul to have a spare room in Octavinelle. He can have Ramshackle in exchange. I know he wants that second location for the lounge

4. In an alternate reality where you don’t immediately get lumped together with Ace and Deuce, who in the school becomes your best friend(s)?

✦ Epel and Rook seem interesting to be around, I don’t know a ton about either of them, but going off of my general idea about the two, I could see myself hanging around them. Epel I’d probably befriend pretty quickly, Rook maybe not so much. Unless being from another world is enough to make up my lack of beauty or interesting qualities. Other characters I could potentially befriend would be Kalim, Jamil, Trey, and Idia

5. Which existing club would you give a shot? Any particular reason why?

✦ Board games club! You guys should’ve seen when I got Risk and nobody wanted to play with me because it was so long… in the board games club they’d have to join me, right? Also I just wanna vibe with Idia and Azul

6. Don’t be shy, we know there’s a certain someone who’s caught your eye! Who are they? How did you meet?

✦ … Jamil. I’d assume we meet through Kalim. I met Kalim, vibed with him and we started hanging out together, and then Jamil came to find Kalim for one reason or another, meeting me in the process or if we’re following the game plot, we’d meet when I was investigating the mysterious injuries surrounding magishift players

7. Which of the events was the most exciting for you?

✦ Ghost marriage. Sitting on the sidelines and watching everyone get slapped would be legendary, and all those outfits? Even better. Of course I’d feel bad for Idia, but that doesn’t really change how amusing the rest of the event would be

8. Ghosts: delightful dorm mates or unholy terrors?

✦ That entirely depends on their reaction to my 2 am singing, they might become nightmare fuel just to get me to shut up for a minute. Otherwise the ghosts are honorary dorm members, who have an obligation to listen to me, their dorm leader I’m officially the mc now

9. Choose a champion (no further context, just pick).

✦ Leona. As long as he’s actually awake/motivated to get up and do champion stuff, I think he’d be well suited... I say, having absolutely no idea what the context for this is. If this whole champion thing requires motivation however, I’d pick Jamil instead

11. Thoughts on fairies?

✦ Cool as hell. Those are not things we have here and that is honestly a shame. I’m kinda interested in all the different types of fairies and what distinguishes them. Like is it just physical differences or do the different fae have special abilities of their own?

✦ Break a rule with Riddle standing right in front of me. I’m looking forward to him trying to use off with your head on someone with no magic of course he could just beat the shit out of me, but that is a risk I am willing to take

✦ First of all, laugh at him. Then probably join him tbh, depends on who he’s stalking

16. Thoughts on Grimm?

✦ Rat bastard who needs to stop eating overblot rocks. Or if he’s gonna eat them, at least wait until I’ve experimented on them to find out what they are and what they can do

17. If you had magic, what would be your unique magic?

✦ Now this is a hard one. I’d say… an ability that draws attention to or from someone. So the magic could make it so that everyone turns and pays attention to the target, or that everyone ignores them, making them essentially invisible. I don’t have a name for the magic right now because I only just came up with it

18. Favourite ship? 

✦ Marcela x Lilia. Not because I think it’s a good ship, but because if they did get together it would be so chaotic. It’s just for the memes

19. Favourite theory?

✦ Silver being twisted from the sword that kills Maleficent. I don’t know who first came up with the theory, but I’ve seen it mentioned multiple times by different people. I like it ‘cause it’d be an interesting narrative, and hint at a possibility of betrayal. A character twisted from a villain and another character twisted from what killed them, nice

20. The school year is coming to a close, how are you feeling? Any thoughts?

✦ Please tell me I can continue on as a second year. I’m feeling kinda annoyed that I can’t use magic, but seeing everyone overblot, I figure it might be for the best that I can’t

✦ Potion shenanigans. Perhaps an event where a dodgy potion resulted in some body swapping or something? Or they pull an Emperor’s New Groove and turn someone into a llama. I think I prefer the llama idea. Please twst give me a llama event
