03.01.25- a log (a day late)
• Spent the early morning reading and analysing poetry in my pyjamas
• Had wayyyy too many cups of tea. It’s not a problem I swear.
• Spent ages getting ready for a party, declaring I had to look like a ‘rockstar girlfriend’. I officially love dark eyeshadow on myself.
• Paired a formal dress with a leather jacket and absolutely slayed if I do say so myself
• Arrived at the party and panicked in a corner
• My older cousins dragged me to the dance floor and soon enough I too was Macarena-ing the night away
• Was about to eat cake but ABBA came on and I screamed and ran to the dance floor, abandoning said cake
• Accidentally came out to my drunk aunt and gossiped about my love life with her
• My blood sugars went low in the night from too much boogie-ing and I got like no sleep🫶
• Read fanfiction instead of sleeping. The pinnacle of chaotic academia I fear

Orange Juice
Tumblr media
summary: your boss has you on edge at work, which leads you to forget to eat lunch. as a type 1 diabetic, this means your blood sugar is low, which eddie quickly catches onto when he gets home. he spends the rest of the night taking care of you and making sure you're okay.
word count: 1.9k
request: anon- Would you maybe write a Eddie x reader fic where she has type 1 diabetes and has a rough night of low blood sugar and he helps getting her snacks and juice and then telling her to try to get some rest and he stays up to monitor her sugars on her dexcom app because he's too worried to go back to sleep.
A/N: i tried my best on this, i really hope everything i wrote was accurate! i'm not completely educated on diabetes, but i did a bunch of research to make sure it was as close as possible to what happens with low blood sugar. regardless, i hope you enjoy reading attentive and worried eddie!
warnings: reader has type 1 diabetes, no use of y/n, plus size!reader, fem!reader, race inclusive!reader
Tumblr media
You’re happy to finally be home after a long day of work. Your boss has been on edge lately, meaning she had you doing far more than you’re used to. Today, you’ve been so busy and stressed, that you hadn’t noticed that your lunch is still sitting in your work fridge. Eating was at the bottom of the list of things to worry about today, even though you have type 1 diabetes, and know that skipping meals isn’t the best idea.
You notice you’re feeling a little dizzy as you start pulling things out of the fridge to make dinner, but you ignore it, not even thinking about why. All you’re focused on is that Eddie and Christopher will be home soon, and you know they’ll be hungry.
You smile when you hear the front door open and the small laugh coming from Christopher as Eddie talks to him. You hear their footsteps coming into the kitchen, and you turn from what you’re doing for a moment to greet them, smiling widely at Chris.
You had fallen in love with Christopher as soon as Eddie introduced you to him, and he’s been so welcoming to you. You were a little surprised at how easily he accepted that you were moving in with them, but you didn’t want to question it.
Eddie comes up to you and puts a hand on your soft waist as he gives you a quick kiss, mumbling a greeting against your lips. You smile at him before you turn back to the dinner you’re preparing, swatting his hand playfully as he reaches for a piece of pepper you had cut.
As you listen to him talk about his day, you begin to feel dizzy again, but continue trying to ignore it, nodding as you try to focus on his deep voice. You feel yourself start to sweat, and your hands are shaking ever so slightly, but you’re so focused on dinner and Eddie that it doesn’t click.
The way you’re gripping the counter every now and then doesn’t get past Eddie, and he furrows his brows as he studies you. He keeps his eyes trained on your movements as he continues his story, not wanting you to pick up on his inspection of your actions because he knows you’ll brush him off.
He’s by your side immediately with one hand on your plush tummy and the other on your upper back when you blink slowly and start to sway gently.
“Are you okay, baby?” he asks, worry etched on his face. He’s seen you like this before when your blood sugar is low, so he thinks he knows exactly what’s going on. He’s met with a small nod as you regain your balance, continuing to prepare dinner.
“Is your blood sugar low?” he asks you, getting slightly upset that you’re not taking proper care of yourself. As he speaks, everything suddenly clicks in your brain; you forgot to eat today. He sees the realization on your face and he sighs, slowly leading you to the kitchen table and guiding you gently down into a chair.
“Baby, when’s the last time you ate?” he asks you softly as he kneels down in front of you, his eyes softening as you look down at him with an apologetic look.
“Breakfast.” you mumble, beginning to feel really bad as you see the look on his face. You aren’t trying to worry him, you just want to be truthful with him. He’d figure it out if you weren’t, and lying to him would make you feel worse.
He sighs and gets up, going to the fridge and getting you a cup of orange juice.
“Drink this. I’ll finish dinner while you sit here.” You’re about to tell him that you can finish dinner, but you change your mind before you can get a word out. You realize it’s probably a good idea, and you know he wouldn’t let you lift a finger regardless. You nod, sighing as you pick up the cup, taking a small drink.
“More.” he says once he hears the bottom of the cup hit the table. His back is turned as he makes dinner, but he knows that you aren’t holding the cup long enough to drink an acceptable amount of orange juice. You laugh softly, finding it funny that he knows you so well, and raise the cup back up to your lips, taking a bigger drink of it.
He hums happily as he hears you move, and quickly finishes dinner. He keeps an eye on you as you keep him company, and asks you why you didn’t eat today. You explain to him how much stress you’re under at work, and he can’t help the frown that takes over your face.
“Honey, you’ve gotta eat. I don’t care about what your boss needs you to do. I don’t want you passing out on me.” he tells you, his tone slightly joking as he finishes. You hum softly, nodding. You know he’s right, but you honestly didn’t mean for this to happen.
“I know, I’m sorry. I forgot. I promise I’ll try not to let it happen again.” He smiles at your reassurance, and nods while he places dinner on the table. He calls Christopher, and you all sit down for dinner.
Christopher tells you about his day as you eat, and you laugh every now and then at his words. Once you’re done eating, Christopher is quick to leave the table, saying something about playing a video game with his friends as he goes, which makes you smile.
Eddie clears the table and loads the dishwasher, and once he’s done, he urges you to the bedroom to change.
“We’re gonna sit on the couch and watch a movie. I don’t want you doing much.” he tells you sternly. You’ve learned how stubborn he is, so you don’t put up a fight, instead getting on some comfy clothes and letting Eddie lead you to the couch once you’re both changed.
He sits down beside you on the couch, and turns on the movie you requested. It’s a series of movies, which he thinks is perfect, as he can entice you to watch the second and possibly even the third one tonight too. He wants to keep you close, allowing him to check on you whenever he wants.
He puts his arm on the back of the couch behind you, smiling softly as you lean against him and rest your cheek on his chest. You love how attentive he is towards you, and you think this is your favourite way to spend the night with him. You’re not all that worried about how you’re feeling; you’ve lived with it far longer than Eddie has, but you appreciate how worried he gets. It proves to you that he cares for you, even if you feel bad for how nervous he gets sometimes.
Just as the movie starts, he whispers in your ear to sit up. You oblige with a confused look on your face, brows furrowed as he gets up from the couch. He walks into the hallway, and you wait quietly, only half paying attention to the first few minutes of the movie as you hear him shuffling around the kitchen.
He comes back into the living room with some more juice, and a little plate of various snacks, giving you a small smile as he sets them down on the table. He settles back into his spot, and then puts a hand on the side of your head, gently ushering you to put your head back on his chest.
You obey his silent command and lay back against him, one arm making its way over his torso as you snuggle into his chest, practically feeling the love radiating off of him.
“You don’t need to eat all of this now, but I want it all gone by the time the movie is over.” he tells you firmly, but there’s still a soft edge to his tone as he looks down at the top of your head. He smiles when you nod and hum softly, and he leans down to kiss the top of your head before he turns his attention to the movie.
“I’m okay.” you whisper after a moment, turning your head to look up at him. He gives you a “really?” look as he meets your gaze, raising his hand and rubbing your cheek gently.
“I’m just making sure, honey. I gotta make sure my girl’s okay.” he tells you softly. You lower your gaze, nuzzling your head back into his chest as his arm makes its way from the back of the couch to your shoulders, squeezing them lightly.
“I already had dinner, I really don’t need all this.” you whisper, trying to focus on the movie. You know if you don’t pay attention now, the rest of the movie probably won’t make any sense.
“You’re at least gonna drink the rest of that juice, deal?” He grabs your chin and brings your face back up so you’re looking in his eyes. You nod in his grip, raising your head to kiss him. He smiles into the kiss, chasing your lips as you pull away.
“Let’s focus on the movie. Don’t want you asking questions the whole time because you weren’t paying attention.” you tease as you refocus on the movie. You’re met with a scoff as he rolls his eyes.
“Ha ha.” he says sarcastically, but he doesn’t argue any further. He focuses on the movie, and grabs your phone on the table, checking your dexcom app every few minutes, making sure your blood sugar is rising as it’s supposed to.
He’s not sure when you fell asleep. He knows you were awake when the first movie ended, but he’s met with silence as he makes a joke about the main character around halfway through the second movie.
He opens your dexcom app quickly, sighing in relief once he sees that your blood sugar has increased. It’s still not exactly where it should be, but it’s a good sign. He lowers the tv volume, continuing to watch the movie, but he’s more focused on your steady breathing. He rubs his thumb across your shoulder softly, trying not to wake you, but he can’t help wanting his hands on you.
Once the second movie is over, he still doesn’t want to wake you. He’s content sitting here with you, and he wants you to rest after your stressful day of work. He decides to lay back and close his eyes, deciding to let you sleep for a little while longer before he wakes you up to go to bed.
He keeps his eyes closed for a few minutes, but he can’t seem to get to sleep. He’s still worried about you, even though your blood sugar is returning to normal. You drank the rest of the juice he set out for you, and you even ate a few of the snacks he brought out, but he couldn’t help the nervousness eating at him. He keeps your phone in his hand, checking your app every now and then while he watches whatever is playing on tv.
As he watches over you, feeling you moving slightly as you breathe in and out, he’s filled with so much love for you. He already knew, but he knows for sure now that he would do anything to make sure you’re okay. To make sure you stay with him forever.

Highs and lows | Lia Wälti x Sister!Reader
Warnings: Reader is a type 1 diabetic and experiences both hypo- and hyperglycemic events. I hope all the medical talk is right!
Woso masterlist | Words: 1.3k
-----
One of the things you loved to do outside of football, was going on walks with some of the girls on your team. When you and your sister Lia made the move to London, you had found a second family in your Arsenal teammates. The friendships you made here went beyond the pitch, and you were forever grateful to have gotten a place amongst them.
Today you were joined by Lia, Steph, Viv, Beth, and Leah. As well as Myle and Calvin, the dogs were both running around the park as the rest of you were talking.
“Oh hi Myle girl, do you want me to throw the ball?” The dog had dropped the tennis ball into your lap, so you got up to play with her. You made a quick stop to grab your water bottle before you ran back to the dogs. Myle had so much energy, so she kept running up and down the field, while Calvin stayed closer to your side. You throw the ball for Myle again, but your vision goes blurry right after. You knew the feeling all too well, and sat down slowly. Calvin moved closer to you and started barking. Steph looked up at the sudden loudness from her dog, who usually is rather quiet, and notices you on the grass.
“Hey Lia”, Steph didn’t even have to finish her sentence, the tone of her voice told Lia enough, she looked over to you and rushed to your side when she saw you were on the ground.
“I'm here.” She reaches for your hand, while reaching for her phone with the other. She taps the device to the patch on your arm, letting it read your glucose levels. You had been diagnosed with diabetes type 1 when you were a kid, so the symptoms were very familiar to your sister, and to the team now as well. “It’s low.” By now she didn't even have to tell you what she was going to do, as she was with you for a lot of your highs and lows. She grabs a juice box out of her bag, and tells you to drink up.
“Here, lean into me.” You heard Leah's voice behind you. Her hands on your shoulders guided you into her. The girls knew that there was nothing they could do for you, and that they would just have to wait for your glucose levels to get back up, but that didn't mean that they wouldn't try to make it as comfortable for you as possible.
Slowly but surely you started feeling better, the blurred vision faded, and you felt a little stronger again. While you had gotten used to the hypo- and hyperglycemic events, they were still a little scary to experience, because you'd never know when one would be more severe.
“Come on, let's get you home.” Lia extends her hands to you, after you let her know you were ready to get up. Once you were up, she hugged you tight, always a little scared of the events herself.
“Why don't you come to our place?” Beth offers, “We live closer, you can rest there.” You agreed instantly, the less you had to walk right now the better. Back at Beth and Viv’s place you find yourself slowly drifting to sleep cuddled into Viv’s side, with Myle on your chest.
You’re woken up by the smell of one of your favourite dishes lingering in the air. “Hey, how are you feeling?” Viv asks when she notices that you were awake again. “Good enough for that delicious meal Lia is cooking up.” The girl you’re still laying against chuckles, “Ah good, you’re back.”
You looked around the room to find Leah, Steph, and Calvin had left the home, while Lia was in the kitchen with Beth. Though, you knew your sister did all the cooking, because Viv always loved to tell you how bad of a chef Beth really was. You got up and joined the rest for dinner.
The next few days your blood sugar levels didn’t have any major spikes, there was the occasional high and low, but nothing that wasn’t quickly fixed.
On game day you were rushing out of the house, cause you forgot to put your alarm. You rolled out of bed, hopped in the shower, and quickly changed into your match day outfit, before you headed to your car.
You knew it was stupid to skip meals, because it would most likely influence your blood sugar levels later on, but right now the only thought on your mind was getting to the stadium on time. Which luckily you managed to do, you headed into the locker room where everyone was about ready to start warming up. After quickly putting on your cleats, and your training kit, you followed the team out.
“Everything alright?” Your sister asked as she put her arm on your shoulder to warm up her legs. You nod, “I overslept. Forgot to set my alarm, but I’m all good.” You continue warming up together, before running some drills with the rest of the girls.
On the pitch everything was going great until it wasn’t. You felt very shaky, and were sweating more than during a regular game. Trying to push the feelings aside only worked for a few minutes, with one tackle you were on the ground, and your body fully gave into the high blood sugar. Both Lia and the medics came rushing your way.
“You need to check her glucose levels.” Your sister instructed. The medic already had a phone in their hand to tap it to your patch. “We’ve got her Lia, don’t worry.” The phone quickly gave the glucose levels, and showed they were very high.
“I’m going to give you an insuline shot, to get your levels down quickly.” You simply nodded, not caring how they would lower your blood sugar, as long as you would stop feeling this way. After the shot, your body started slowly feeling stronger again. The medics walked you off the field, and sat you down on the bench. Steph sat down next to you, and you leaned into her side. She took the bag of nuts the medical assistant handed over, and opened the bag for you.
When the halftime whistle blew you headed into the locker room, while Steph went to warm up with the rest of the bench.
“What happened?” Your sister’s worried voice rang out the moment you sat down. She didn’t even let you answer the first question, before she continued. “Why didn’t you say something sooner? You know how bad it can get if you don’t treat your highs and lows on time.”
“Since I was in a hurry this morning I kind of forgot to have breakfast. I swear I was going to eat something when I got here, but you were all ready to warm up, so I forgot in the rush again.” You knew that skipping meals wasn’t good for your glucose levels, and you really didn’t do it on purpose, and you needed Lia to know that. “I should’ve said it sooner, but it was almost half time. I thought I would be alright until then.”
Lia uncrossed her arms, and the angry facade fell. “Please don’t ever scare me like that again!” She sat down and put her arm around you, happy to know that you were alright again. You listened to Kim and Leah discuss the tactics for the second half of the game, and made your way back to the bench when it was time to head back again.
The team ended up winning the match. After the second half you felt a lot better again, so you walked the victory round next to your sister, who was happy to have you properly on your feet again.

How why these are scam accounts:
These same stories have been copy/pasted over and over again and reused so many times that just pasting portions of them into google or even [tumblr] will bring up old scam accounts they've used.
Take for instance just copy and pasting (with quotation marks!) this and searching it on tumblr:
"I had been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at a tender age, a condition that demanded a delicate balance of insulin"
You'll find this same story being used over and over again:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And if you do the same with this quote taken from the second blog (again quotation marks and all!):
"My condition worsened when the bombs drew perilously close to my home"
You'll see that it was used by a scam account 9 months ago:
Always take a few moments to do some research before you share a post. :)

forget voter fraud; rb this post with a receipt proving you have given $5 or more to any of the following orgs or funds, and i will draw you free propaganda
more specifically, i will make you a digital sketch! however, if you give over 20, you get a flat color, over 30, and you also get very basic shading, over 50, and you get a fully rendered piece. to include those unable to give, i will randomly choose one reblogger per round to also get their own sketch propaganda, should they choose to accept it. so one reblog = one entry! if you have multiple receipts, i will let you decide if you want them to count cumulatively towards one piece or if you'd like multiple. examples of previous commissions here!!
no hateful content, no nsfw, and for the purposes of this blog, whatever you ask me to draw has to be at least vaguely related to the tournament. as propaganda, your drawing will be posted publicly on this blog, which is the guiding sentiment for most of these rules
i tried to focus on either on-the-ground or direct actions, although there are a few where that's not the case. if you have any suggestions, feel free to leave them. orgs and funds below:
gaza evacuation funds from operation olive branch (also contains other gaza mutual aid links), gazafunds, or those that have been vetted or shared by el-shab-hussein, nabulsi, palipunk, ibtisams, 90-ghost, or another palestinian blogger
sudanese gfm and refugee support (there are some in el-shab-hussein's pinned as well)
peace african hope relief fund in eastern drc
kakuma queer
gaza home/business repair funds
clinic supporting refugees in chad
khartoum kitchen
other orgs and funds vetted by sudanese diaspora
mona's initiatives providing direct aid in gaza
the sudan solidarity collective
the panzi foundation
pious projects (period-related relief)
life for gaza
help gaza children
care for gaza
watermelon relief: aid for displaced families in gaza
friends of the congo
atlanta solidarity fund
landback
palestine action
much of my post was based off of this post by karinyecrafts, who is doing free commissions for people who donate $5 or more to salma's evacuation fund and rb with their receipt. salma is a 13 year old type 1 diabetic currently in egypt. her father and brothers are in gaza. your support will help her get insulin and reunite her family
feel free to replicate absolutely anything about this idea. otherwise, consider rbing this post and don't forget your daily click!

i bought a DNA test - here are my predictions based on the DNA (asteroid 55555) persona chart
23 & me + health is very comprehensive, so i am just going to touch on some of the topics i already understand in their test breakdown from their website. later when the results are back, i will go over whether i was correct about the topics in this post and on the stuff that i didn't know about!
paid reading options: astrology menu & cartomancy menu

ancestry
i know for sure that i am polish and slovakian so tesinsko (38674) 10h and sextile saturn makes sense. těšínsko is basically the dividing line czechoslovakia and poland. so to have that in my dna 10h status makes me believe it will be pretty prevalent in the test breakdown - 50% +. plus i have polonia (1112) conjunct moon and that is very true - i got it from my mom's side lol.
danmark (2117) in the 2h rx makes me feel like i am not as danish as my father told me i was nor...
am i as german as he made it seem. 7h germania (241) is not as convincing plus the lack of aspects just makes it all the less convincing...
italia (477), hispania (804), and copenhagen (13586) in the 4h. perhaps i will revoke my statement above about the danish ancestry, but we will see. i do believe italian and hispanic descent might be probable based on these placements.
i know i am welsh but i can't find an asteroid related to wales :(...
i know that i am european, so i didn't run any of the other countries' asteroids through. if something else pops up, i will run them through in the follow up to check the DNA persona's accuracy.
trait report
ability to match musical pitch: air venus at 17° - i am gonna say this comes back positive.
asparagus odor detection: mercury at 1° conjunct chiron; i definitely will have a heightened sense of smell.
bitter taste: capricorn mercury... get it? its a saturn ruled mercury? saturn can be bitterness? i don't know i thought it was funny...
earwax type: on the other hand... a saturn ruled mercury - soft wax (i'm of the mindset there are only two options hard or soft wax).
health
type 2 diabetes: it kind of looks like i can beat the odds... like venus square saturn - that's just genetic. BUT venus sextiles moon and pluto AND conjuncts uranus - these are all planets of change, so i feel like i can/will prevent diabetes.
brca: it's not looking too hot and i know my father's mother passed from breast cancer at a rather young age i think she passed at 40... my moon conjuncts pluto and is opposite jupiter. fortunately, it conjuncts chiron, so i might beat it or catch it early thanks to the test.
thrombophilia: it's a given... uranus square saturn - the blood flow is just not that good.
alzheimer's: mercury conjunct sun and chiron AND sextile mars makes me believe it's fine and i'm good - i will get the negative here.

Hi! I was wondering what would be the time lord equivalent of the common cold!
What does a Time Lord cold look like?*
*Please inform me if I interpreted this wrongly!
🧬 Resilience, But Not Invulnerability
Time Lords have a fabulous immune system, making them resistant to many diseases that would floor humans. However, they're not entirely impervious to human ailments like the common cold. Their bodies resist better and recover faster, but they can definitely get it.
It's a classic case of 'superior biology meets tiny virus.' In theory, their highly regenerative cells should be able to neutralise the virus quicker, but the nature of the cold virus means it's like trying to hit a moving target.
🌌 Extra Senses
Here's where things get interesting. Besides the usual symptoms, Time Lords have extra senses that could be affected:
🕰️Time sense: In theory, a cold could fog up their time sense, making time streams feel muddled or 'out of sync', like trying to look through fogged-up glasses. This could result in mild disorientation during time travel or maybe a heightened risk of 'temporal vertigo'.
🧠Psionic sense: Telepathy is a deeply integrated part of their biology, used for connecting with other minds and even communicating with their TARDIS. A congested Gallifreyan might find their mental 'signals' weakening or misfiring, like accidentally starting a telepathic convo with a nearby lifeform or being unable to interpret words correctly in a telepathic exchange.
➕Somato senses: Time Lords also possess advanced somatic senses, like gravitoception (their awareness of gravity) and mechanoception (their sensitivity to mechanical forces). When they're unwell, these senses could get scrambled, most notably causing light-headedness and balance problems, especially during rapid shifts in gravitational forces, like standing up too quickly.
💊 Treatment and Recovery
The good news is that Time Lords recover from these viruses faster than humans, halving the usual recovery time, but of course, home remedies are always helpful. Get them tucked up in bed with that chicken soup on the go (chicken soup has mystical powers, and we are yet to unearth its true power).
🏫 So ...
While Time Lords have evolved to shrug off a lot of human ailments, unfortunately for them, they aren't immune to the human 'common cold', and because of their extra senses, it's probably got a bit more punch.

Hello I hope you are having a nice day! I am planning on writing a haikyuu fanfiction where one of the characters has type 1 diabetes with celiac and epilepsy They are serious about pursuing volleyball professionally. and i was wondering if you could point me in the right direction. How would he need to adjust insulin levels for practices and games? How often should he check his blood? Would seizure medication affect sugar levels? If he ingests gluten how would that affect his sugar levels?
(haikyuu anon pt2) which insulin pumps/glucose meters were available in the late 2000s/early 2010s? Does pricking your fingers make them sore? Does injecting insulin into your gut make that area painful when pressure is put into it(when diving for the ball)? could the pump/monitor be placed on the body unlikely to be hit by the ball? Will seizures affect sugar levels and what to do then? Sorry for bombarding you with these questions. If anything else comes to mind please add to it! Thanks you
hi!!!
these are some wonderful questions, and i'm gonna throw a lot of info and resources at you! first, anecdotally, celiac and t1d are pretty commonly comorbidities (occuring together) bc they're both autoimmune diseases. i know a lot of people with both, including one of my best friends from when i was a kid. and i have an epileptic family member, so i'm just all around excited about your ask :D
How would he need to adjust insulin levels for practices and games? How often should he check his blood?
for t1d and sports, i recommend checking out this page on diathlete, which is all about managing blood sugar while doing (often very competetive) sports. (i am NOT a sporty person, but i DID do karate extensively for about fifteen years, and a lot of activity comes down to: checking bg often, keeping low bg supplies nearby in case, and having a lot of protein before activity to keep your blood sugar steady.
modern pumps normally have an activity mode built in, but before that, most people would manually reduce insulin before/during a game. not everyone has to do this tho.
(common snacks are PB and bananas, cheese and crackers, yogurt, etc. stuff with some carbs to go with the protein.)
(this got LONG, holy stars. putting everything from here on out under a cut)
Would seizure medication affect sugar levels? Will seizures affect sugar levels and what to do then?
for anit-epileptic meds, idk enough about them to say if they affect bg, unfortauntely. if you have specific meds in mind, i would look up common side effects on drugs.com (i promise that's a real, professional, non-shady site lol)
idk if seizures affect bg, actually! great question! i'll say that stress (such as, having a seizure) tends to make blood sugar go up. however, i'm tempted to think a tonic-clonic seizure (the kind with heavy shaking) could count as a form of activity? i'm not sure how to guide you here, unfortunately
some webpages talking about t1d with epilepsy:
If he ingests gluten how would that affect his sugar levels?
people with celiac who ingest gluten are going to experience severe inflammation, which is commonly known to increase blood sugar levels AND make a person temporarily more insulin resistant. high BG also causes more inflammation, so. feedback loop.
also, gluten is a carbohydrate, and if your character isn't used to eating it, will probably have trouble figuring out exactly how to bolus insulin for it. (even if they know the exact carb counts, different types of carbs take longer to digest and can require bolusing earlier or later than for other types of carbs.)
some links to resources talking celiac and t1d:
which insulin pumps/glucose meters were available in the late 2000s/early 2010s?
so i found this AWESOME page from the Wiley library from 2010 talking about the history of the insulin pump. def recommend reading through it, it's not that long and it's really cool. i also stole the following image from there, which answers your question.
animas went out of business or was discontinued a few years ago but was popular for a while before that. i have the omnipod, and have had the omnipod since 2006/2007, so if you have technical questions, feel free to throw them my way.
Tumblr media
that's all you need for your question, if you're interested here are other sites talking about insulin pump and cgm hx, bc im a nerd:
as for glucometers, don't feel like you have to mention brand names. they all work basically the same way; turn on, insert strip, poke finger, hold bloody finger to appropriate edge of strip, yell a lot bc you didn't get enough blood or the meter timed out, and rinse repeat until everything is successful.
brand names from 2000s/2010s i can think of include: freestyle, one touch (my old beloved), accu-chek. the original omnipod handheld controler (the PDM) had a meter inside it, which was awesome.
Does pricking your fingers make them sore?
yes.
it doesn't always hurt, but, imagine poking yourself with a small, fast-moving needle. if you get just the right spot, you won't feel it. if you get the WRONG spot, g-d help you cause you'll feel it for days.
also, constant pricking creates scar tissue. i haven't really pricked my finger for about two years now unless my pump/cgm stops working, but i still have limited feeling in my fingertips. like, can tap hot pans to see how hot they are without causing pain. i don;t recommend this but i do it, so. don't be like me :'D
good news is the visible scars--little black spots--went away eventually!
Does injecting insulin into your gut make that area painful when pressure is put into it(when diving for the ball)?
it sure can!
bruises are common from injecting, pumps and cgm sites also cause bruises. like after you get a vaccine? some areas bruise worse than others, this differs person to person and site to site. but if someone can feel it, it's just like making contact with any other bruise.
could the pump/monitor be placed on the body unlikely to be hit by the ball?
general recommend placement sites are, for starters:
back of the upper arms
abdomen on either side of the belly button to the hip
thighs (front or side, some people also do back of thigh)
upper buttocks (the fattiest area)
lower back (where love handles show up)
ideally you want it placed in fattier areas. muscle is ok but moves a lot and can disturb the site. bony areas = 0/10, do not recommend. much pain.
Tumblr media
people place sites basically anywhere bc scar tissue builds up and you run out of room eventually (rotating sites is very important bc it delays scar tissue forming!). some popular alternative, non-insurance-approved areas are:
the back of the forearm (i recommend shaving first, this hella hurt when i peeled off the adhesive and idk why it's so popular)
back of calf (i like this one)
shoulder blades (love this spot, but awkward to reach and awkward with bras)
and chest (have not personally tried)
which is the least likely to get smashed into by the ball, the ground, or another player? idk, i never played volleyball. back of the arm, probably? that, stomach, and thighs are typically the go-to for most people, i think, so you can't really go wrong there. it's good that you're thinking of it, bc it is a concern that athletes have to consider
there are also sleeves and extra adhesives available to help keep sites from ripping off or falling off. this website has a few different types so you can see wim.
omnipods are cool for sports bc they don't have any tubes to get tangled up or caught on something. other pumps all have thin tubes connecting the insulin reservoir and electronic parts to the actual site, and i have never understood how people manage to play sports and NOT get their tubed pump ripped off??? but lots of people don't have major problems with it ig.
lmk if you have any more questions! i love to talk about this stuff!

Felix volturi with a mate who is type 1 diabetic? I’m really struggling with my diabetes rn and I could use some fluff from my favorite strong man🥺
Him
Felix Volturi x Type 1 diabetic reader
A/N: I hope this gives you the fluff you need, and I hope you are doing better 🫶🏼🥺. I might not know what you are going through but I believe in you . I'll be honest Im not super familiar with this but I have some understanding (currently in school going going for a degree in the medical field actually). But enjoy 💙
Tumblr media
(The handsome gentle giant❤️)
“Morning my little rose”
At the sound of my mate's voice, I opened my eyes slowly to be welcomed by his handsome face. He’s so beautiful. He reached a hand out to caress my cheek gently, pure heaven right there with just his touch. I love his gentleness considering how tall and muscular he is it is hard to consider him this with his status as the ‘executor’ of the Volturi, but to me he is so tender and loving.
Still feeling a bit sleepy I responded with a soft “Morning Fe”
He joined me on the bed and pulled me into his arms so my head was resting on his chest. Today was one of those days where I had no energy to do anything. I just want to lay in bed all day and sleep. I sometimes hate feeling like this, I don't like showing Felix this side of me, even if he knows about my diagnosis. I did tell him a bit of what I go through and stuff but it's a struggle sometimes.
“You're having one of those days aren't you?”
I guess he already knows. It's been about 6 months since Felix came into my life and I was told he is my mate. But I have had type 1 for about 2 years already. The only reason he found out was he came to visit me in my house when I was feeling absolutely terrible, he thought I was sick with the flu but I told him the truth. He was very understanding and Demetri told me the next day that Felix spent the whole night reading anything there is to know about how to deal and manage with type 1. And since then my love for him bloomed more.
“Yea it’s one of those days unfortunately”
“Alright well good thing the masters gave me the day off, i'll be your personal nurse today”
Looking up at him with a lopsided smile and booping his nose with my finger tip
“My handsome vampire nurse to exact”
—------------
Since that morning, Felix has helped with taking a nice bubble bath with my favorite bath bomb that smells like roses and lavender. He even made me an appropriate breakfast, he's managed to get me to enjoy eating cantaloupe over the past couple of months. He's still struggling to get me to eat a banana alone because whenever I chew that fruit I gag and there were times where I did throw up from that weird texture. But he does make me smoothies with that fruit which I do enjoy. And now he is pursuing me into going on a walk with him in the gardens
“Come on cara, if you do get tired, which I understand does happen, we will take a break and I will give you a taste of the Felix care package when you're tired, hmmm?”
To top it off he finished that line with his shark like grin that always makes me weak in the knees. It's impossible to say no to him when he mentions his care package, it includes a massage, hair stroking, and small kisses on every inch of exposed skin that I dare show.
“Fine, only because I heard that the garden was worked on recently and there are new flowers that I need to see up close but-”
“I got it here already, see?”
I looked at his other side and he had a bag which I can assume had some treats to help with the fatigue and nausea and in his hand he was holding what I can say is the biggest water bottle I have ever seen.
“What the hell Felix, where did you manage to get such a huge water bottle?”
“I have my ways amore”
He wrapped his large muscular arm around my waist and guided me to the much awaited gardens. As soon as we were close to the gardens I felt myself relax and was surrounded by the smell of different flowers. I picked up on the sweetness of jasminess, the freshness of lavender with a hint of spice which I can assume were the lilies. We walked for a while until I started to feel a bit more weak and my thirst levels increased. Felix as always picked it up and we stopped at a nearby bench that he actually carved many centuries ago. He held the water bottle for me as I drank what I felt was a whole gallon in one sip.
“Want to hear the story about his bench, amore?”
Not wanting to speak or nod my head from the slowly approaching headache, I gave him a thumbs up that was received by a small smile from him
“Well I told you some bits of my gladiator days from what I can remember until Aro found me and turned me in. I picked up a hobby soon after I was turned. I always thought the arts were a fascinating topic, and with Master Caius' influence, I focused on sculpting. My first couple of attempts were not ... .good” he smiled with an  embarrassed look “ With my state of being more abnormally stronger as a newborn handling small tools in my large hands to carve ... .well you can already guess my issue. With this bench it took many attempts to master, I would switch between a variety of chiseling tools until I noticed just using my hands worked best, so I actually built this with my bare hands, I wanted to add a bit of architecture inspiration from the Colosseum, which is why the legs of this are like that.”
The way he explained his story was so adorable, some of the things I picked up about Felix is when he talks about something he is passionate about he gets a twinkle in his eyes. He smiles more than he already does but the way he explains things he went through makes me feel like I was there with him as the events happened. I soon noticed after his story my headache was gone.
“Fe, can I tell you something?”
“Always my little rose”
“I don't tell you this enough but I really do appreciate you, I love that you are in my life, I thought I would become a burden to you but with you, you make me feel so special and loved, I love you my handsome giant”
I never said the L word to him so this was a first for him to hear.
“Oh cara, I think I just fell in love with you all over again, just hearing you say that makes my undead heart flip, with you I feel complete with as what is left my humanity, I love you mi amore”
Damn that giant, some small tears of happiness rolled down my cheeks which he wiped away with his thumb. He leaned in and placed a light kiss on my forehead that can speak thousands of words.

SpaceTime -- A brief history
SpaceTime is Australia’s most popular and respected astronomy and space science news program – averaging over two million downloads every year. We’re also number five in the United States.  The show reports on the latest stories and discoveries making news in astronomy, space flight, and science.  SpaceTime features weekly interviews with leading Australian scientists about their research.  The show began life in 1995 as ‘StarStuff’ on the Australian Broadcasting Corporation’s (ABC) NewsRadio network.  Award winning investigative reporter Stuart Gary created the program during more than fifteen years as NewsRadio’s evening anchor and Science Editor.  Gary’s always loved science. He studied astronomy at university and was invited to undertake a PHD in astrophysics, but instead focused on his career in journalism and radio broadcasting. Gary’s radio career stretches back some 34 years including 26 at the ABC. He worked as an announcer and music DJ in commercial radio, before becoming a journalist and eventually joining ABC News and Current Affairs. He was part of the team that set up ABC NewsRadio and became one of its first on air presenters. When asked to put his science background to use, Gary developed StarStuff which he wrote, produced and hosted, consistently achieving 9 per cent of the national Australian radio audience based on the ABC’s Nielsen ratings survey figures for the five major Australian metro markets: Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, and Perth. That compares to the ABC’s overall radio listenership of just 5.6 per cent. The StarStuff podcast was published on line by ABC Science -- achieving over 1.3 million downloads annually.  However, after some 20 years, the show finally wrapped up in December 2015 following ABC funding cuts, and a redirection of available finances to increase sports and horse racing coverage.  Rather than continue with the ABC, Gary resigned so that he could keep the show going independently.  StarStuff was rebranded as “SpaceTime”, with the first episode being broadcast in February 2016.  Over the years, SpaceTime has grown, more than doubling its former ABC audience numbers and expanding to include new segments such as the Science Report -- which provides a wrap of general science news, weekly skeptical science features, special reports looking at the latest computer and technology news, and Skywatch – which provides a monthly guide to the night skies. The show is published three times weekly (every Monday, Wednesday and Friday) and available from the United States National Science Foundation on Science Zone Radio, and through both i-heart Radio and Tune-In Radio.

Brian/Justin Fic Excerpt
I am a Type 1 Diabetic, and the last few nights, I’ve had the worst time of it. I went to bed both nights with blood sugar levels in the normal range for sleeping. Only to wake up a few hours later to find them in the danger zone for low blood sugar. In my continued exhaustion, because you can’t exactly go back to sleep with your body keyed up like that, I wrote such experiences into my T1D Brian Universe fic.
Justin was sitting on their bed applying lotion to his arms when Brian exited their bathroom with a frown on his face. He was staring at his phone, not even aware that Justin had taken notice of him and his demeanor.
“Everything okay?” Justin asked with bated breath as Brian pulled out his insulin pump and pushed a few buttons.
After he was done, Brian stuck the device back in the pocket of his sweatpants, placed his phone down on the bedside table, climbed into bed, and then leaned over to kiss Justin.
“Yeah. My sugar is a little high, but I gave myself a correction and it should go down.” Brian gave his bicep a squeeze as an extra form of reassurance.
And honestly, Justin didn’t worry. Brian’s numbers fluctuate all the time and he managed things just fine. It had been ten years since his last extreme diabetic emergency. With a responding smile, Justin finished up what he was doing and got under the covers with his partner. Once the lights were off, Brian’s arms immediately enveloped Justin.
A few hours later, Justin was pulled from a deep sleep by the loud alarm on Brian’s phone that indicated a low blood sugar. He rolled over to find Brian was already sitting up, but he wasn’t moving into action like he usually did when his blood sugar went low.
“What can I do?” Justin suddenly jumped into action, placing his hands on Brian’s shoulders. “You need juice?”
Brian simply nodded. So, Justin walked quickly to the kitchen and poured him some juice. By the time he got back to their bedroom, Brian was right where he’d left him, which Justin had expected. What he hadn’t expected was to see him extremely pale and shaky from the effort.
Justin knelt in front of Brian and forced his chin up. Brian opened his eyes, but Justin could tell he wasn’t registering much of anything. With gentle hands, he guided Brian to drink from the cup he held up.
After the juice was gone, Justin stayed where he was but grabbed Brian’s phone. He inputted Brian’s passcode and stared at the CGM reading, daring the arrow to point upward and the number to get bigger. After what felt like hours, but was really only 15 minutes, Brian’s number only went up 2 but was trending upward. Justin breathed a sigh of relief.
He briefly left Brian’s side once more to get him a glass of water and a couple of crackers with some sliced cheese for an extra boost to his numbers and help them steady out and maintain.
This time, when he came back to the bedroom, Brian had moved so that he was leaning on some pillows against the wall behind their bed, his legs stretched out in front of him. Brian had turned on the TV and was flipping through channels as he sucked on a hard candy from the drawer in his bedside table. Justin lifted his eyebrow in question and Brian just shrugged.
“My sugar dropped back to what it was before the juice, so I decided this was a safe backup.”
Justin nodded silently and handed Brian the crackers and cheese before he placed the glass of water down and got back into bed. He immediately scooted his body up against Brian’s and wrapped his arm around his partner’s waist. Anytime Brian had a low like this in the middle of the night, Justin got clingy. He felt he needed to hold onto Brian to prove the man was still there and wasn’t going to simply disappear. It was something they’d experienced many times over the years, and despite his prickly feelings about cuddling, Brian allowed Justin this one vice on nights like tonight.
“You should try to get some sleep. Just because my body won’t calm down enough to let me sleep doesn’t mean you have to miss out, too.” Brian mumbled against the top of Justin’s head.
Justin leaned back so that he could make eye contact with his partner, “When have I ever gone to sleep while you battled recovery from a low?”
Brian sighed. “I know. I just thought I’d suggest it. Like always.” He then gave Justin a smirk before kissing him on the temple. “I love you.”
Justin didn’t respond; instead, he snuggled up to Brian’s chest a bit more and listened to his heart, and felt his chest go up and down with each new breath. It calmed the anxiety raging within him.

sorry for being very opinionated about some weirdly specific topics like chiropracty and homeopathy because I was raised by a type 1 diabetic and a 4th-5th generation atheist so I live with the persistent need to want to learn the actual nature of things instead of letting my intuition and feelings guide my choices and kill my disabled ass in the process. like. I’m not dying for your feelings

How to Choose the Best Assistance Dog Trainer for Your Needs?
Tumblr media
Getting an assistance dog is a life-changing decision, but finding the right trainer is just as important as choosing the dog itself. A well-trained assistance dog can offer support, independence, and companionship, but only if they receive proper guidance from an experienced trainer. So, how do you find the best assistance dog trainer for your needs? Let’s dive in!
1. Understand Your Needs
Before searching for a trainer, identify what kind of assistance you need. Different trainers specialize in various types of assistance dogs, such as:
Guide dogs for visually impaired individuals
Dogs that can hear for the hard of hearing or deaf
Service dogs for physical disabilities
Therapy dogs for emotional support
Medical alert dogs for diseases such as seizures or diabetes
Knowing your specific requirements will help narrow down trainers who specialize in the right area.
2. Look for Certified and Experienced Trainers
Not all dog trainers are qualified to train assistance dogs. Look for trainers who:
Have certifications from recognized organizations (e.g., ADI – Assistance Dogs International)
Have experience training assistance dogs, not just pets
Instead of using punishment-based strategies, use techniques that focus on positive reinforcement.
Have a proven track record with successful training programs
3. Check Their Training Methods
Every trainer has their own approach. The best trainers use:
✅ Reward-based training (treats, praise, toys) ✅ Customized training plans based on your needs ✅ Gradual exposure and real-life training situations ❌ Avoid trainers who use harsh correction methods, as they can cause stress and behavioral issues.
4. Ask for Reviews and Testimonials
A great way to evaluate a trainer is by checking reviews from past clients. Look for:
Testimonials on their website
Social media reviews and ratings
Case studies of successful training stories
Recommendations from disability support groups
If possible, speak directly with other assistance dog owners to get firsthand feedback.
5. Consider the Cost and Location
Training an assistance dog is a significant investment. Costs vary based on:
The trainer’s experience
The duration of the program
Whether it’s private or group training
Some organizations offer financial aid or grants, so check for funding options if needed. Think about the trainer's location as well. Do they provide online or in-person training?
6. Observe a Training Session
Before committing, ask to watch a training session. This allows you to:
Watch how the trainer engages with the canines.
Assess whether they use humane and effective methods
Check to see whether their style fits your requirements.
If the trainer refuses to let you observe, consider it a red flag.
7. Ask Key Questions
When interviewing potential trainers, ask:
What experience do you have with assistance dogs?
Do you offer personalized training plans?
How long does the training process take?
What support do you provide after training?
Can I meet other trained assistance dogs you’ve worked with?
Final Thoughts
Choosing the right assistance dog trainer takes time and research, but it’s worth it to ensure your dog is trained effectively. A skilled trainer will help your assistance dog become a reliable companion, making daily life easier and more independent for you.
Are you ready to start your search? Check out this directory of assistance dog trainers to find the perfect match for your needs! 🚀🐶
