Not sure where to ask this, so im posting here as well as some forums BUT:
Basically I really love using Figma for making interactive menus. I have used Figma for mocking up websites and mobile apps before at my job, and in my odd time I’ve taken to using figma to prototype and make sketches of things like UI and flowcharts for the game my friends and I are developing. And even more recently I prototyped a fully custom, nice-looking, interactive character sheet for my character in the current campaign im playing.
Now, It’s got me thinking: I would really, really love to build custom character sheets for people as a side job as its something i genuinely enjoy doing. But the problem is, figma will not exist forever and I have foreseen that it might be a pain to build someone a prototype and I am the sole person to make updates whenever their character levels, they get new gear etc and I don’t really like the idea of forcing people to make an account for a tool they wont want to learn or use outside of the prototype i send them. Additionally, Figma prototype is ultimately not ideal for more distinguished and specific character sheets as I’d like for it to be.
For example, I would love to make buttons that a user can tap to mark how many death saves they have succeeded or failed, I want the user to be able to mark for inspiration and conditions, etc. I know I could possibly feasibly make it work all inside one scrollable frame, but the way I prefer to set up the character sheets requires navigating to different frames with buttons.
What other good alternatives are there? I like to make these character sheets for mobile use (phones and tablets) so should I jump to app development? I don’t mind learning new or more complicated softwares, just as long as the software is free, there’s a free trial long enough for me to learn the gist of the software, a single larger purchase for a license for a good amount of features, or the cost for subscription is low. Is Godot a good software to use for this? My team is learning godot anyway for our game as we were discouraged from Unreal Engine.

holy shit axure sucks so much i want to murder people bc of that how can a software, presumably made for coders and software engineers, be designed in a way that is so counter intuitive and annoying for coders. why can i not access a row on a table using its index. this is the simplest thing to do in any coding language ever designed on this planet. but this software, made to prototype uis, makes this so convoluted and obscure that i dont even know if its possible.
and the fuckin documentation on this piece of shit software is not like "here is how you can make this and then it can be used like this and this and this!". It's "here is a thing you can do! i will not explain what it does and how its useful ever!"

Hello Karne;
This blog will exist exclusively to document the development on my game, Karne.
Karne is planned to be a 3D RPG of sorts, grabbing design elements that i personally enjoy in those types of games and combining them in the most solo-dev-friendly way i can.
One important feature i want to personally improve upon is the turn-based combat.
The motto will be "Turn based doesn't have to mean boring or tedious."

I have already created rough prototypes earlier this year so i am rather confident about the direction i want to go in.
Most of the concepts for locations, characters and the overarching story have already been completed so that type of content may be sparse but i am thinking about sprinkling in some of them from time to time.
Regarding the tools i will be using, they're a mixed bunch of paid and open source softwares.
Godot (specifically the .Net branch) will be my gameengine for this project. Originally i planned to use Unity3D but ... well, you know.
Blender will be used for the creation and composition of 3D assets.
Affinity Designer will be used for most 2D assets, including but not limited to: UI Elements, Sprites, Logos, Rendered World-Space Text (in combination with blender)
Clip Studio Paint will be used for sprite animations and animated "cinematics".
JetBrains Rider will used for all of the programming/scripting work.
And last but not least Reaper will be my digital audio workstation (DAW) of choice.
Did i list all of these just to add the appropriate tags? Absolutely.
But i also think it's important to provide people information that they could use as a starting point to decide on their own product stack for development.
In real life i am a C# developer for a german company but i also have a background in multimedia design and have at least a basic understanding of music theory from playing a few instruments many many years ago. That's the reason i feel confident enough to approach this kind of project. Also, i just always had fun in creating worlds to play in. I think the next logical step is to share these ideas with other people.

In creating the final solution, I'll first test different programs and software to understand their capabilities and scope out what features and functions I would need.
Below I have created a checklist of the different softwares I plan to use/test out, as well as their advantages and disadvantages.
Blender3D: A 3d modelling software. I'd like to learn how to use this software more as it's free and there are plenty of resources online that I can use and has numerous features that I can utilise for the solution. The disadvantage to this software is that although its a good starter in learning to 3D model, I've already found the UI of the program to be quite hard to navigate through and there are possible better alternatives.
Procreate - A drawing app. This software I am already very familiar with and have a good understanding on its capabilities and features, however, they are very limited. This app will definitely be useful in creating iterations and prototypes, but the final solution may need to be produced through a different software due to its limited capabilities e.g. vectors and 3D elements.
Adobe Illustrator - A graphic design software. I'm not too familiar with this program yet, but I am very interested in learning how to use it due to its vector-based software that I believe will be very useful in learning for the project, and outside. My only limitation is that there are limited resources available in learning how to use it and the limited time I have.
Garageband/Logic Pro - Both are DAWs (digital audio workstations) that I have little to no experience with. However, I feel that it will be useful, and even essential, in producing my sound element for a VR environment. I'll have to learn how to use either software which might require some time and a great amount of attention. Although I do have available resources (my boyfriend) that will be able to teach me how to use Logic Pro, I believe that I'd possibly have the capacity to fully utilise this program into my solution.
Oculus Quest VR Headset - A VR Headset. In all honesty, I don't have much knowledge on this product, let alone any other VR headset. This headset is also the only option available for me when testing out my solution. Although, from what I've gathered from online resources, this headset is easy to use, portable and at a cheaper price range in comparison to other VR headsets. The downside being its limited performance and a limited screen sharing.
