#i have tried several charging blocks and cables and outlets and ive left it#and it charges maybe 1%#and has decided that it wants almost two days to charge fully!#if it realises it's connected to anythin at all#christ in hell.#I bought a new cable in hopes it would fix the problem and Im mad about that too#bc the cheapest usb-c cable in walmart was 15 bucks#like wtf wtf wtf#most are priced at 20+ but THEY AINT WORTH THAT MUCH#idk man im just tired#alers random thots

The fact that Apple’s Lightning connector did support USB 3 speeds, and instead of opening up the standard like they did with MagSafe/Qi2, they nerfed it down the USB 2 speeds and kept it so locked down that the EU forced them to stop using the standard entirely, is actually hilarious.
Like, the Lightning Connector could’ve easily been the USB-C connector. Apple is apart of the USB Committee. They helped design USB-C. They could’ve given their connector to the Committee, and every other phone would’ve been forced to switch, and iOS users would’ve had the advantage of not having to do so. Apple could have done what Tesla did with SAE-J3400 and NACS, but instead, they got too overzealous. And now look at where they got themselves.

#i was given a hard drive that uses this usb-c to usb micro b superspeed bullshit and its so fucking annoying cause my laptop does not have#a usb-c input cause she's 10 years old and we rock with regular usb in my house OK. and the extra pins that the usb micro b gives us isnt#freaking worth it man its compatible with like 0 other things fuck my liiiife. ive been using a usb to microusb cable in the meantime#which is barely stabilized in the hard drive's input FML ok im done#eff

Went on another "where is my package" walk around my building. This time I took notes to check off where I had asked someone.
Turn out one of the "not an apartment but actually an office" is not owned by the same company but a different one.
And I am not certain I actually asked the people I nearly gave a heart attack yesterday. Because when I saw them I was sure the person in the other apartment had said "I have your package" instead of "I have no package" (dein and kein are so damn similar).
I have knocked on their doors but no answer rn. Gonna try again in an hour so.
#The people I nearly gave a heart attack to are the most likely of the bunch#The delivery person said floor 4. But if they count wrong (like some other countries do) they will start with a 1 for the street level#instead of counting street level as 0 as you do here (and as do programmers)#you start with 0 and then go up or down. It makes sense and all of you who disagree are wrong (just joking btw. idc)#So counting wrong to 4 would put you on floor 3. But this could literally be wishful thinking#Maybe I already talked to who has my package and they have already opened it and want to keep the extra long usb c charging cable#Unlike most stuff you order online that cable is pretty damn universal and most people could use it actually#And now I'm gonna use all this pent up anxiety to open up my physical and digital mail and put stuff to deal with in my todo app#or like do it right away if it's a quick thing...

The good news is my smart typewriter arrived, the bad news is its battery is deceased
#basically i tried to turn it on right out of the box and it did not respond at all#so i put it on charge and left it for like 10 minutes; at which point it did turn right on when i pressed the power button#i did the quick start stuff and postbox works fine; send to email works fine; all the keys seem to work and it did a firmware update#which fixed the tiny bit of lag the screen had at first#i’m constantly hitting the wrong keys but i do that on any keyboard til i’m used to it. it’s a nice keyboard#the only thing is when i checked how charging was going just now; the battery percentage was still showing 1%. 🧐#it’s been charging for well over an hour and a half#i did a restart and switched to what i think is an optimal charger#(i.e. the usb cable that came with the device + the usb-c wall plug that came with my ipad#not the charging lead for my earbuds + a random wonky samsung plug which is what i was using before)#i’m also going to fully stop bothering it until probably like late in the evening at minimum#i SHOULD be working technically#in my defence i didn’t expect it to arrive so soon. tracking never updated so i thought it was stuck at a random international depot#when actually it made it to heathrow like 2 days ago#look i’m just going to try and count my blessings that everything aside from the battery is working beautifully right now#and if i was a lithium battery left in transit for like 10 days i’d probably die too#worst case scenario i’m just going to have to exclusively use the thing while it’s plugged in. and it has a long cable.. i’ll be fine#personal

USB-IF really screwed everybody over with their wacky 3.0 = 3.1 Gen 1 = 3.2 Gen 1 bullshit
I also love how you can have five different USB C cables with different capabilities and they will be visually indistinguishable
#extremely cold take#I need to make up a USB 3.2 cheat sheet that I can laminate and put in my wallet#there is an official USB C cable labelling scheme but no version of it ever accounted for whether or not a cable has one or two data lanes#brought to you by having a moment where I can't figure out why I can't get my monitor connected via a USB C cable
