-The Bomber, Vic Tyler and Leslie Fish
Abstract (Psychopomp)-Hozier
Time Stamp: 1:57-2:08
Propaganda:
i recently went through a breakup and this album came out a few weeks after. the first time i heard these lyrics i almost fucking bawled. its so raw to me, and so so tender and vulnerable. it has a sort of resignation to it, reluctant acceptance of the love the lyrics talk about

Is anyone else here reading Kiss of Death? I'm so confused that I don't know if I'm not understanding the book or if the book is so poorly written that the writers can't keep their story straight.
(spoilers below the cut)
MC basically lived in a bunker after her brother was killed. Even when she met Vic for the very first time, she claimed to be super "boring" and overprotected. I get that people grow up and change, but there's something about her that just doesn't make much sense to me. There are moments where she's super aggressive (very "mafia" style), then she acts like a spoiled brat who's super fashionista but has no idea about anything (I swear she reminds me of Paris Hilton in the early 2000's), then she's super flirty and apparently has had a few significant others (but I thought she said she had no social life!), then she's a total sweetheart, and then, she tries too hard to impress her parents, she's like a little kid trying to catch their attention (and being rejected over and over again). Was it the two years in college? Was it the dysfunctional family?
Also, has Vic been trying to protect the MC since day 1? How is that he didn't recognize any of the shooters that were trying to kill the MC if they all were Flint? How is that he didn't know where the Wolfe's mansion was located in town? Did he always know the MC was a Wolfe? Did he come into that boutique on purpose? I think there is something weird about it.
Is it OK if I think Jasmin was hired by MC's parents to make her feel she was actually doing something productive?
Why does Tyler act as a brat all the time? You should have bought that club before MC's parents did, dude!
Unpopular opinion: I want to be wrong about this one, but I don't trust Faith. She's too loyal to MC's parents.

tell me more about classic filk i know a few songs but never got deep into it
Heck YEAH
"Filk" is music (often but not always folk music-style, often but not always song parodies to the tune of famous pre-existing songs) about sci-fi, fantasy, and other fannish topics. Filk circles are popular events at science fiction conventions, and that's really where the genre started. The word "filk" actually arose from a typo in a convention program once, and people just rolled with it ever since!
Some of the most iconic albums in the filk world are the anthology albums "Minus Ten And Counting" (songs about space exploration and the real-life space program), "Carmen Miranda's Ghost" (songs about sci-fi space shenanigans and space ghosts), and "Finity's End: Songs of the Station Trade" (songs set in the world of CJ Cherryh's Alliance-Union novels, and my personal favorite. I've never read any of CJ Cherryh's books, but these songs paint such a vivid world.) "Space Heroes and Other Fools" is another big one, it's more hit-or-miss for me but it's iconic. Other really good and foundational ones are "Divine Intervention" by Julia Ecklar, "Avalon is Risen" by Leslie Fish, and "We Are Who We Are" by Vixy & Tony.
I lean more towards sci-fi and space than fantasy, but fantasy and paganism are huuuugely popular filk topics too.
Some of the most popular names to look into include Leslie Fish (intensely prolific, barely a fraction of her work is on any streaming or music service), Julia Ecklar (famous for her "ose," the filk-world word for sad songs - because they're "ose, more-ose, and even more-ose), Juanita Coulson, Kristoph Klover, Vic Tyler (who just recently died :( rest in peace), Duane Elms, Kathy Mar, Bob Kanefsky, Alexander James (trans, with lots of filk under his previous name as well), Vixy & Tony, and Seanan McGuire. (I like Seanan McGuire's filk music better than her books, hah.) Some other great ones include Cat Faber (most acapella), Astrisoni, The PDX Broadsides, Kari Maaren, and Sassafrass (also mostly acapella. Includes Ada Palmer). Heather Dale, Tom Lehrer, and Jonathan Coulton are kind of honorary filkers too haha.
The best place to get the ones from 80s and 90s cassettes are on the Internet Archive or Youtube; a few filkers who are more currently active have their stuff on Bandcamp.
And I'll leave you with a few of my Favorite Ever filk songs:
"Sam Jones" by CJ Cherryh and Leslie Fish
"Pushin' the Speed of Light" by Julia Ecklar and Anne Prather
"Chickasaw Mountain" by Leslie Fish
"Fire in the Sky" by Jordan Kare
"The Phoenix" by Julia Ecklar
"Freedom of the Snow" by Leslie Fish
"Burn it Down" by Vixy & Tony
"Hope Eyrie" by Leslie Fish, or this Minus Ten And Counting version
"Rocket Rider's Prayer" by Kristoph Klover, Ernie Mansfield, and Cecilia Eng
"Dawson's Christian" by Duane Elms, performed by Vic Tyler or Vixy & Tony
"Somebody Will" by Sassafrass
"Chances & Choices & Fortunes & Fates" by Astrisoni
... my tastes lean sentimental and ose but I swear there's a lot of very funny filk out there too
"Never Set the Cat on Fire" by Frank Hayes (a famous one)
"Banned From Argo" by Leslie Fish (an INFAMOUS one)
"Don't Push That Button" by Duane Elms and Larry Warner
"No More SF Cons" by Juanita Coulson
"One More Ose Song" by B. J. Willinger
everything Bob Kanefsky writes

Today in the Department of Before They Were Star Trek Stars, Part 2 of a double feature! This episode had so many good shots of the Star Trek star, and so many Trek connections, that trying to put it all in one post would have made it way too image heavy.
James Doohan guest stars in "Expanding Human," episode 4 of the second season of The Outer Limits (original air date October 10, 1964).
Jimmy plays a hardboiled police detective investigating a series of crimes linked to a university science lab where the faculty and students have been experiencing with mind-expanding drugs. One of the professors has been using himself as a guinea pig and ends up in a Jekyll-and-Hyde situation where he gains superpowers but loses his moral compass. The drugs wear off at an inopportune moment during a hostage situation that turns into a fatal shootout with Doohan's police colleagues.
Other Trek connections:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jason Wingreen, who plays the police coroner here, can be seen as the doomed scientist Dr. Linke in the Star Trek episode “The Empath.” He was also the original voice of Boba Fett in The Empire Strikes Back, before his lines were redubbed in 2004.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Peter Duryea, who played navigator José Tyler in the Star Trek pilot The Cage" and its repackaged version “The Menagerie,” appears in “Expanding Human” as one of Dr. Clinton's inner circle of students.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Doohan's assistant, Detective Sgt. Alger, is portrayed by Troy Melton. He did stunt work on several episodes of Star Trek, and also played an unnamed Eminian guard in "A Taste of Armageddon."
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The narrator of The Outer Limits, known as "Control Voice," was prolific voice actor Vic Perrin. He provided voices in three episodes of Star Trek, including that of Nomad in "The Changeling," and appeared in a fourth as the leader of the Halkans in "Mirror, Mirror." He was also the original narrator of Spaceship Earth when it opened in EPCOT Center in 1982.

HELLOOO do you have any rap artist recommendations?? saw ur tags on that earlier post :]
hey bestieeeeee
hell yeah i have rap recommendations!!
In terms of artists, definitely Kendrick Lamar because of the lyricism and ability to weave a narrative, Metro Boomin', lil Uzi, Cardi B, 21 savage, Tyler the creator, lil nas x, Doja Cat, Kanye, Megan Thee Stallion, City Girls, Saweetie, and ASAP Rocky all have classics that have shaped the genre in their own way since 2012.
Most songs that have collabs /features with people like SZA, kali uchis, kanye, rihanna, the Weeknd, lana del rey, and other pop artists are pretty fire. Don't shy away from popular songs! They got popular for a reason, and having an artist you know in the song can make a completely new genre less daunting.
In terms of songs, I would definitely suggest:
Just Wanna Rock (lil Uzi), Runnin (21 savage and metro boomin), Right Foot Creep (youngboy never broke again), Collared Greens (ScHoolboy Q, Kendrick lamar), Glock in my lap (21 savage, metro boomin), the Box (Roddy Ricch) because they're hype and iconic.
Songs that have dances attached to them are also a great place to start because then you can straight up see people's enjoyment of it. Songs like juju on that beat, drop it like it's hot, even Wobble (by VIC) and low (by FloRida and T Pain) are really good intro dance songs. The important thing about these songs is that the audience is much broader than for some rap songs. The audience for the dance songs (ie. 'all the shawties in the club', 'west coast', or even 'you') is whoever feels like participating, whereas for example, "Not Like Us' by kendrick is a very specific diss that's meant to be listened to a wide range of people but is a response to Aubrey Drake Graham's bitchass.
