How long is a Schengen Visa valid?

The most common visa amongst these is the Schengen visa, which falls under the category of short-term visa; nationals from member states can travel around different countries in the area for a maximum period of 3 months within any six months. As per the Schengen visa validity rules, LTVs are provided due to commitments on the international level, the necessity of certain interests on the national level, or humanitarian reasons. 

Airport Transit Visa (Type A): With this visa, a person is allowed to pass through various airports in the Schengen member states, although they have yet to be allowed into the Schengen region. 

Transit Visa (Type B): With this kind of visa, the holder is allowed to transit through the Schengen area to another non-Schengen country only, where the visa is valid for 5 days from the date of issue. 

National Visa (Type D): This is an extended-stay visa that is meant for visits for more than ninety days in the member country of Schengen that has issued it. Holders of this Type D visa are granted the freedom to move from one Schengen country to another as a tourist or for business within ninety days within a six months, provided the visa is valid. 

Again, the 90/180-day rule is generic and is relevant to all Schengen visas, irrespective of the number of times one intends to enter the region. This, in fact, means that the holder can use the visa solely for a cumulative period of ninety days within one hundred and eighty days rolling period in the Schengen Area. The validity period of the visa means until when one can use the visa, not the maximum time allowed in the country. 

Schengen Visa from Dubai

Dubai residents can get their Schengen visa from Dubai at the consular or visa application center of the country in Schengen that they intend to visit.
