Trump and Musk Are Pushing the U.S. Toward a Shutdown—Here’s What That Means for You
Once again, the U.S. is on the brink of a government shutdown. But this time, it’s not just political infighting—tech billionaire Elon Musk is playing a role, too. By leveraging his influence and platform, Musk has joined forces with Donald Trump to push for chaos, blocking a budget plan that would keep the government running.
What’s Happening?
A government shutdown occurs when Congress fails to pass a budget. Without funding, federal agencies shut down, leaving millions of workers unpaid and essential services suspended. Trump has been pressuring Republicans to reject the current spending plan, while Musk has amplified right-wing voices that oppose it, turning a routine budget negotiation into a high-stakes political crisis.
How This Affects You
A government shutdown doesn’t just impact politicians—it hits everyday Americans hard. Here’s what you need to know:
Federal Workers & Military Personnel: Over 4 million federal employees, including service members, could be forced to work without pay or be furloughed entirely. Many live paycheck to paycheck and would struggle to cover rent, utilities, or groceries.
Social Security & Medicare: While benefits continue, customer service lines and claims processing could be severely delayed, making it harder for seniors and disabled individuals to access their payments or healthcare services.
Food Assistance Programs: Families relying on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) could see delays in benefits, and funding for food banks may dry up, exacerbating food insecurity.
National Parks, Museums, and Public Services: Expect closures of national parks, Smithsonian museums, and other federally funded sites. This affects not only visitors but also the small businesses that rely on tourism revenue.
Air Travel Disruptions: TSA agents and air traffic controllers will be required to work without pay, increasing the risk of flight delays and staff shortages that could create chaos at airports.
Housing & Small Business Loans: FHA-backed home loans could be delayed, making it harder for people to buy homes. Small businesses relying on federal grants or loans may also face significant funding gaps.
Economic Instability: The uncertainty and disruption from a shutdown can rattle financial markets, leading to job losses, increased inflation, and setbacks for businesses large and small.
Why Are Trump and Musk Doing This?
The Democrats argue that the budget proposal favored by Trump is nothing more than a disguised tax cut that would primarily benefit the ultra-wealthy—people like Musk. Additionally, they refuse to support a plan that would burden the U.S. with trillions of dollars in additional debt. Notably, alongside the Democrats, 38 Republican members of Congress also voted against Trump’s proposal.
The Bigger Picture
This isn’t just a budget dispute. It’s an alarming sign of how billionaires and political extremists can manipulate the system for their own gain. When an unelected tech mogul like Musk and a former president under multiple indictments can grind the government to a halt, it raises serious concerns about power, accountability, and the future of democracy.
What Can You Do?
Stay informed and share credible news sources.
Contact your representatives and demand they stand up to political obstruction.
Support journalism that holds those in power accountable.
Most importantly: Vote. A government shutdown is a preview of the dysfunction that could become permanent if Trump and his allies regain full control.
This is bigger than one political battle—it’s a fight for the stability of the country. And the outcome depends on all of us.

As Iron Sharpens Iron
"As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another." Proverbs 27:17
Beta-read by @dragonrider9905

Chapter 2:
Previous // Next
Warnings: Jealousy, canon violence.
--------------------------------------------------
Why does she have to come along? You thought bitterly as the ship rattled through the atmosphere.
It was one thing for Phee to come along, but her sister was another story altogether. You had no problem with Phee. She’d proven herself to be extremely helpful when things went south; she was fun and easy to get along with.
Tara, on the other hand, though you’d only worked a job with her twice, seemed to be the opposite. She was nice enough and shared her older sister’s enthusiasm for adventure, but that was where the similarities ended. If Phee was fire, Tara was ice. The others seemed to tolerate her, and you had to admit she was good at her job. Omega enjoyed her stories as much as she did Phee's and for some reason that irked you as well.
She used to come to Hunter for everything.
Hunter and me, you thought bitterly. Lately it was all Tara and Phee who occupied her attentions.
Tara seemed to have a way with people. She’d talk someone up, laugh, and bat her eyelashes, then suddenly the datastick - and sometimes their wallet - would find itself tucked away neatly in her pocket or wherever else she could hide it. Phee spoke highly of her. According to Phee, her sister could draw the attention of a target and sweet talk them into giving her information just as easily as she could disappear entirely in a crowded market - stolen information taken without a hitch. You’d seen the former on the last mission. In just a matter of hours, a few drinks and conversation combined with a pretty dress and tasteful jewelry was all it took for the officer to let slip the location of Cid’s coveted artifact. Even Tech had seemed impressed.
“Good work,” Hunter had said to her, as she made her way back to the ship. His deep, husky voice stirred something inside you even though his words were not directed to you. You’d seen how she’d brushed up against Hunter as she passed him by on the way into the ship. Though Hunter had stepped aside and seemed to pay her no mind, you didn’t trust her as far as you could throw her.
And with how thin she is, I could probably throw her pretty far, you thought with a smirk that quickly disappeared as you looked up.
Hunter currently stood behind her in the cockpit, hand gripping the back of her chair. Her hair brushed across his fingers as he peered over her shoulder at the datapad in her lap.
The ship shuttered and dropped in altitude, ripping you from the jealous thoughts.
Tech, grappling with the failing controls, glanced over at them saying something you couldn’t quite hear over the turbulence.
Another jolt sent you stumbling into a chair, pulling you roughly back to the situation at hand. Hunter grunted at something she said and turned back to the others,
“Strap in,” he commanded, “We’re in for a rough landing.”
You could feel his eyes burning through the back of your head as you fumbled the straps, clipping yourself into place. Undoubtedly he could sense your discomfort, though you doubted he knew the true cause.
He strapped himself into the seat beside you, placing a hand on your knee.
“Relax,” he whispered, “It’s nothing we haven’t done before.”
You froze, staring at his hand on your knee, that strange but familiar warmth burned fiercely through your chest.
He snatched his hand away as though he’d been burned and you found your eyes following the motion as he placed it awkwardly in his lap. He shifted almost immediately to the other seat beside him. Towards her.
The sense of warmth you’d felt evaporated as quickly as it came, replaced with an ache that ran through your body like an icy chill and you shivered.
“The storm is interfering with the navigation systems,” Tech called out, “I am going to attempt a manual landing.”
“Oh boy…” Wrecker’s nervous grip tightened on the shoulder straps that buckled and strained to keep him in place, his fingers finding the well-worn grooves in the metal handle. “We’re gonna crash! We’re gonna crash! We’re gonna crash and die!” he shouted mostly to himself.
You were never sure if he was actually truly terrified or if it was just an involuntary reaction to the adrenaline rush that came with the threat of death.
Probably a bit of both. You found yourself grinning at him, feeling the rush through your own chest - a strange mixture of terror and euphoria that kept you on your toes, ready for anything.
A sharp drop threw you backwards into the seat sending a throbbing ache through your skull, thankfully muted by the protective restraints.
“Ow! Kriff!” Wrecker shouted as his head bounced off the wall, his seat too small to adequately protect his large frame. A loud clatter sounded through the ship, adding to the chaotic clamor of the storm outside.
“No!” cried Tara as the datapad flew from her grasp, sliding across the floor. She reached for her seatbelt.
“Leave it!” Hunter snapped, his hand immediately sliding down to his own safety latch.
Tara shook her head, “We need that information!” She glared over at the fallen datapad with an unyielding determination as she unlatched her straps and staggered to her feet.
“Don’t! It’s not worth anything to us if you’re dead!” shouted Phee as she too reached for her seatbelt, prepared to retrieve her sister. Tara stumbled against the wall as the ship shuttered, sending the datapad further away. She growled in frustration.
“Everybody stay where you are!” Echo’s voice carried over the cacophony of mechanical failure and falling debris, projecting an air of gravity perfected only by an ARC trooper’s experienced command. Phee removed her hand reluctantly from the latch, teeth on edge as she watched her sister stumble to her knees, fingers barely brushing the edge of the datapad before it violently slid away once more. Tara dove after it.
“Almost got it!”
“Tara look out!” Omega shrieked as Gonky came screaming down the short passageway. In a flash, Hunter was out of his seat, tackling Tara to the ground, curling protectively over her as Gonky smashed into the bulkhead where she had been leaning only seconds before.
The ship spun again and Hunter braced himself against a console, grabbing hold of Tara’s arm, dragging her upwards. The datapad slid over and she reached down, snagging it quickly.
“Got it!” She shouted triumphantly, apparently unphased by the fact that she was nearly killed.
Hunter grabbed the datapad from her hand and tossed it to you with a practiced ease as he turned and latched Tara back into her seat.
You gripped the device tightly, watching intently as anger sparked in Hunter’s eyes.
“Don’t ever do that again!” He sank back into his seat and you averted your gaze, staring blankly towards the cockpit where Tech was slowly regaining control of the ship.
“We’re coming in too fast, Tech!” Hunter warned.
“Then I suggest you brace yourselves!” Tech snapped back, brow furrowed in concentration as he pulled the controls with all his might.
“Pull up! Pull up!” shouted Wrecker.
“I. Am. Trying!” Tech grit his teeth.
With one last tug on the yoke, the ship collided with the ground in a wet clatter of fallen tree branches and mud, skidding forward before coming to a roaring halt, just barely missing the edge of a sheer cliff.
Wrecker let out a sigh of relief as he got to his feet, lifting Omega to the ground. You followed Echo as he lowered the ramp and jogged out into the muddy terrain to survey the damage.
He whistled, hand resting on his hip while his scomp arm leaned against the side of the ship. He chuckled, shaking his head as he eyed the mere inches of ground between the end of the ship and the edge of the cliff.
“Cutting it close this time, Tech.”
Hunter grinned, clapping him on the shoulder, “He always does.”
Tech followed him down the ramp, adjusting his goggles, “We survived, did we not?”
“Barely,” muttered Wrecker as he surveyed the cliff and backed up several feet causing Omega to laugh.
“See? I told you we’d be fine, Wrecker.”
Phee’s eyebrows shot up as she joined them on the edge. “Woah! I knew you were good, Brown-Eyes, but this is somethin’ else. Nice landing!”
Tech looked up at her, smiling slightly before turning to glare at his brothers. “At least someone here appreciates the amount of precision and skill it takes to achieve a landing like this.”
Tara was the last off the ship. You handed her the datapad and she cleared her throat,
“Alright, guys. We’ve got a bit of a ways to go, so we should get moving.”
Echo nodded in agreement as Wrecker picked up his pack.
You blinked, not making any move to grab your own pack. Who died and made you squad leader?
Her knack for seizing control of the situation irked you and you found yourself almost unconsciously spinning around to face her.
“Actually, it’s Hunter who gives the orders here, not you.” The words were out before you could even think to stop them. Tara looked surprised. Wrecker froze, pack hanging limply from one shoulder, eyes moving between you, Tara and the rest of the squad. Echo raised an eyebrow. The awkward pause lasted only milliseconds, but to you it felt like an eternity before Hunter stepped in with a sigh, raising a disarming hand. Something indiscernible flashed through his eyes as he looked at you briefly before taking control of the situation.
“Tara’s right…”
The rest of his words were lost to you as a blazing humiliation burned through your chest, mixing strangely with that cold feeling you’d had before.
He took her side. Though you knew Tara was right, it still hurt. No matter how hard you tried to reason with yourself, no amount of logic could relieve the feeling of betrayal. AND I just made a huge fool of myself. Great job….
Wrecker elbowed you, shaking you from your thoughts. Your eyes snapped up and Hunter looked at you expectantly.
“Did you hear anything I just said?”
Kriff. “Y-Yeah!” you stuttered.
He didn’t look convinced but he continued on, addressing the whole team. “Alright then. Let’s get moving.”
Slinging your pack over your shoulder, you began to follow but a nudge from Echo stopped you. He shook his head, looking you over with evident concern written on his face.
“Did you not hear Hunter? You’re with Tech and I. We’ve got to get the ship repaired and primed for a quick takeoff.”
“Right,” you could feel your face warm with embarrassment once more, “Yeah. Guess we should get working then.”
“Yeah.”
Your hands reached for tools, fingers removing and replacing wires, working in a numbing mindlessness on repairs you’d done a thousand times over.
Of course Hunter took her side, idiot! You scolded yourself. She was right. You were wrong.
Tara had her mind on the mission. You had your mind somewhere else, overthinking stupid, impossible scenarios. And yet, you found yourself thinking back to the chaos over and over again - seeing Hunter throw himself protectively over Tara, seeing Hunter’s hand on her arm, hearing his words to her in that deep, authoritative tone: “Don’t ever do that again!”
They were the same words he’d spoken to you just two days ago. The same day you’d seen Hunter in the closet with Tara pressed up against him. The worst part was that you weren’t even sure they were aware that you saw.
So now everyone thinks I’m just crazy. How could I have misread everything so badly!? Was I just seeing what I wanted to see when he had me in his arms?
Though you could’ve sworn that the look in his eyes held something special, it was obvious, now more than ever, that you had clearly misjudged.

With everything going on in my life right now
It seems like a good time to make a pinned post
Hi, my name is Gabriel N. [redacted]
I grew up moving around a lot and was blessed to meet some amazing people a long the way
There was a group of hippies I met one summer that helped me through a particularly tough time
Their presence and comfort changed my life forever
At a time in my life when all I wanted to do was run away from everything that made me
<[({trading the violin for basketball} music for money) robotics for bucket lists] authenticity for acceptance conflated with love and affection>
They handed me a pen
In those dark times it felt like freedom
To have a voice I could share
To bask in their light
To nurture a gift among like minds
To have a safe place to learn
There came a point on the cusp of that darkness that decisions had to be made
To keep moving forward into the light or stay bound to everything we knew
I couldn’t leave my family
[I didn’t understand why my friends called them my baggage or (outside of the systemic cat and mouse game) why there was such mutual resentment] <{like crabs in a bucket} or pots and kettles>
We all went our separate ways
I watched them shoot to the top of their craft
We listened to my stories of heartbreak and familial strange ways over distant electric airwaves
As we grew
I wanted to be where they were
I just didn’t think there was space for me
I wasn’t commercially pretty…
I didn’t believe I was pretty enough
Vanity stifled our growth and shackled me to a life I was always meant to outgrow
Sick as it was I selfishly did whatever I could to live in both worlds
To appease my family I let go of the arts and focused on a career that could make “real money” as they said
[Or so they thought
I actually kept writing (as a ghost) and worked multiple jobs while going to school to be a mental health provider]
I was trying to save up to transfer to a school out there and dual enroll to finish my MSW while getting the remaining credits I believed I needed to earn a seat where they sat
Unfortunately
After I was raped, I decided to have weightless surgery and finally make the move
But my health declined almost as rapidly as the weight fell off {I started saying if I had know I would have just forwent the surgery stayed fat and died happy} *light blasphemy*
It has always been one thing to battle anxiety depression and complex ptsd
This was different though
My hands and feet started turning pale white even going blue at times
The cold started to burn
All of the lights dazed me and when exposed too quickly I would even drop to the floor
I lost control of my bladder at times {on and off switch}
My hair fell out in a pattern only Cynthia could understand
I would collapse randomly still awake just stuck in the dark immobilized shell
I would shake and tremor uncontrollably like I was doing the Humpty Dance
I would sweat buckets like I was on hotones with no milk {got heat stroke one Father’s Day that was cool}
I couldn’t regulate my heart either ({like when it spiked to 200bpm} stressing my cute capybara self out)
They ran tests and despite things consistently coming back abnormal I was told it wasn’t a worry as they were subclinical abnormalities
They said it was probably just a side effect of the weightloss surgery I had [i really thought if I was thin enough or could get the series of cosmetic surgeries I’d be marketable enough to stand next to them (next to hymn)]
Tbh that deflated me
I’d done everything right
Why wasn’t my life coming out perfect
I obeyed my parents
I went to school
I got good grades
I graduated
(To a degree) I pursued my dreams
I went to church twice on Sunday and once on Wednesday whenever the doors were open <[({despite the creeps that lurked} and old ladies who could bless your heart) but not rebuke the devil] smiling in their face>
Why then in America’s good name was my life falling apart instead of falling together
I was persistent
<(Especially since I was finally able to be near hymn)> [{as if I wasn’t the main character of my own show smh}]
We even had plans to get married and start our family in two years <[({he even said it in an interview} which was huge because before he wouldn’t go public with me) out of fears and trauma he had to heal] be kind to hymn>
So I trusted the hospital I worked at to handle my medical care
I trusted them
Unfortunately
They weren’t humble enough to admit they didn’t know what to do or to follow instructions from specialty providers so they threw medication at it until I was taking (2700mg of gabapentin, 200mg Zoloft, ~60mg of a muscle relaxer, and enough Tylenol and medical marijuana to keep me functional through my 12hr shifts and school work)
I worked what ass I did have off
No matter what it took <[({management had a deal with me} as long as I came in to work) no matter what happened] they’d handle it> until my FMLA kicked in and I’d be safe to rest when I needed
I obeyed
Even when I felt death <[({like when you tapped out mid shift and later learned you felt like a bag of flaccid phalluses because I actually had Covid} I cried with my coworkers) scared that in our current state] we couldn’t win that fight>
I rested and made it through
Then there was the time my car wouldn’t start and they held my occurrences over my head so I took an uber to work as asked and was told I was unprofessional for not wanting to talk <[({the lights were loud} my migraine was louder) she was the loudest]> and after collapsing and having a seizure in front of patients and a set of parents l was told to uber back home by the charge nurse despite coworkers offering to take the <30minute round trip
*i do miss some of the staff there {mostly the kitchen staff they fed me well (that Mango salsa though 🤤) and held my head in their laps once when they found me collapsed in a back hallway} <wild day>
It was downhill after that
<[({Despite the year of agreements} presentations) being a quarter away from graduation] and moving up positions like my last name was Jefferson>
I was fired
They denied my unemployment stating I was a noncompliant employee and they had to let me go because I refused to adhere to policy
We had to go to federal court to settle things despite my efforts
Even then I was alone <[({I lost all contact with friends and coworkers who chose to be silent and not get involved}) even lawyers didn’t want to take the case because they felt it wasn’t enough money for their time]>
[(I’m thankful for the few who did still text and the one who helped me keep getting to appointments)]
Court went well
Thank God
<[({I self represented} won the case 💅🏾✨) and was paid what they owed me] after they shenaned again>
It wasn’t enough to stay and pursue my dream though
Even with maxing out my student loans and taking a lighter load I couldn’t bring in enough money to stand on my own two since none of the jobs I applied for were able to accommodate me
A trip to the Patrick’s Instrument Clinic revealed there could be more going on than what was being said
After I offered the neurologist the symptom logs and case notes I maintained he declined to look at them and told me “it’s probably nutritional you’re smart though you’ll figure it out”
That lit a fire under me <[({I was so mad} and scared) and lost] and frustrated>
I couldn’t let it defeat me though
I refused
So
With no other choice but to move back to the hell I had pulled a Jonah to escape
I went back
I fought one more case with help this time and was awarded government benefits
<[({Which after debt and cost of living} and what my parents charge me to stay minus chores and labor) is just enough to get essentials like pads and floss] no snacks>
I haven’t been able to pay on the student loans that kept me afloat through graduation either they just sit staring at me from the shadows of my mind holding the figment of our collective imagination [which is a credit score] for ransom
Since being back I learned some of my collapsing is due to a narcolepsy-1 diagnosis <[({which makes me your favorite} fainting) GO]AT>
Now most of the times Day’n’Nite seem inseparable
My realities seem to blend wildly
At first it was a nightmare
Old friends I had shared meals, holidays, beds with even turned on me
Even helping the one rapist I reported find me
They hopped on my back porch laughing and pounding on the door to get me to come outside
I felt trapped in that house in a new suffocating way
I thought to call hymn…any of my Bois really
I didn’t want to be a burden..
I also didn’t trust anything anymore either
<[({Family} friends) systems] perception>
I had to figure out how to get my ten toes back on the ground and anchor myself
I wanted to know I could without anyone holding my hand
I still listened to their music though
I’m so thankful they kept their promises
vows..
…I’m proud of hymn still too
Diverging from the drama
I chose to lay the past to rest and focus on making a new name for myself
One of redemptive purpose
I couldn’t keep living as the pariah <[({having a degree I couldn’t make real money with} felt worse than flunking out of FIU) freshman year] or each time I killed a part of myself to fit in somewhere that really didn’t care if I was present just enjoyed what I brought to the table> having my family look down on me
[having had my apple pie and cornbread cookies I low key get it though lol]
{im still learning not to laugh at things i don’t think are funny} <(but are actually low key sad)disappointing>
*i wonder if socialization has any bearing on disease presentation*
So
I started studying my illness
I got off prescription medication and hoarded my marijuana containers to log their profiles in hopes of correlating medication levels with symptom occurrences and severity 👍
I went to all my appointments even when doctors denied me care due to diagnostic+ biases <[({like the med student who cited belly pain as the reason for my imaging request to insurance when I stated the sliding hiatal hernia I have was beginning to protrude more with less strain} then a year later sang a different tune when I brought in medical records proving it existed) or when my concerns of altered intracranial pressure due to reduced cerebral compliance from the surgery and extensive history of head trauma *and the weird leak from my nose or the underwater high pitched Eustachian tube symptoms i was shunted for came back* ] was dismissed with a paragraph the lengths of which I’ve only seen a disgruntled partner send someone who doesn’t care enough and was told to leave the clinical work to clinicians>
[as if I didn’t have a master’s level clinical degree and research science background since undergrad]
*None-the-the-less*
I kept trying to give and do what I could
Like trying to finish the database I started during internship <[({the one to help college students locate resources on campus after they’ve experience sexual violence} because I had a visitor on the hotline during internship that wouldn’t get medical care out of fear that their insurance would send the bill to their parents and disclose what happened before they were ready to talk) something I could relate to] and knew it could cost them their hope of justice>
It’s been hard to sit down and face it
While:
Tottering between realities
Fighting old demons
Seeing familiar fiends
That earth shattering punch in the face that was accepting who my family is and how they handle things
The straw that broke the camel’s back before ladies day brunch
I knew I couldn’t keep the act up anymore
Something had to give
I wanted to be free from the life and character I had committed to and it took a different kind of sacrifice
<[({ego} pride) fear] the blood of a raging bull>
All poured out at the altar
The therapist I had at the time wasn’t much help save being a good mirror [he spent most of our virtual sessions scrolling on his phone and despite expressing my goals didn’t play an active role in accountability or guidance (he did do well one session when there was an intern present) which helped me realize he could perform his role he just didn’t value doing so with me]
IT did help me increase some of my stats though
In the little green pond that was his office
I saw my reflection clearly
I started speaking despite feeling unwanted or unheard
I started talking about the friends that were bullies <[({bird girl and her racists jokes} catfishes) fairies] the reds and the blues>
It’s where I started talking about my family
Honestly admitting what was done and how I felt about it
That I still loved them and stretched my capacity to understand people and life in order to continue forgiving and loving
It gave me the strength to say
Loudly <[({Like James!})]>
What I did and didn’t want
How I would and would not accept being treated
Who I was willing to be in this life
Who I wanted to be.
As if the world really were mine..
<I took a long bath>
[Freed my mind]
(Floated into the sea)
{buried fear}
I woke up
Now I’m here
Writing
Hoping one of my Bois <[({hymn})]> will see me posting again and reach out
[we’ve been tumblr rats since the oldengolden dais of this app lol (actual giggle)]
I don’t need saving or want any drama
I am awake enough to say
I don’t want sex
I would like your company through these dark times while I write <[({Mii})]> story though
I think there are Parts I’m missing or may not remember completely <[({then again} some things may be better off) forgotten] and buried>
[iDK yet]
(I guess)
<{We will *see*}>
If you made it this far wow
Thank you for giving such time to listening to my story and learning about little old me <[({my love languages} listening) and] learning>
I hope you stick around as I get more active <[({now that I have a power chair} and will have enough spoons) to get offline/back] outside> and share more of my life with you all
Just in time for summer!
[P would be so Happy]

7. How do you choose which POV to write from? (Especially for starbucks)
25. What fic do you wish you got more of a response on?
26. Which of your fics would you call your wildest ride?
39. Share a snippet from a WIP
aw wow! People never ask me questions on here.
let’s see number 7. Honestly I tried to come up with a better answer than this but it’s just the vibe of the thing. The first story was really just a response to “Clint Barton shows up 15 minutes late with Starbucks” insert Troy with the pizza meme that was out in the ether post his absence in Winter Soldier. I decided to try making myself write from Natasha’s perspective after the Clint heaviness in marketplace etc but in the Starbucks sequel I just wanted to imagine/ write down the Robert Downey jr voice in my head reacting to spy kid 3D. And then they all joined in. Clint’s voice is my most comfortable place to be Natasha, Cap, Maria, Jarvis the least but I think that’s because being that fucking competent seems heptapod level alien.
25: I wish people read unfinished business more… it was my first story in the marvel space and my second fanfic ever. And I still kinda like imagining it’s running in the background of the avengers… and it could have too if not for that pesky Joss Whedon. I also I’m proud of my Game of thrones fic. It was an attempt to self sooth and I think it turned out rather well all things considered.
26. I’m not sure I do wild rides I’m definitely not much of a plot writer. I tend to focus on small intimate character moments. Probably because I suck even more at the other stuff, possibly because being a speech pathologist I’m better at getting voices of characters ‘right’ than I am at making things happen. But I am proud at how I salvaged age of ultron for the rewriting in Market Place and how much I was able to reuse, reduce, recycle might be surprising to readers.
39. So my clinic shut down suddenly in September. If you are Australian I will just say this about it. The NDIS and in particular the Government have been making it harder and harder to work as a paediatric disability clinician and hell bent on telling our clients that it’s because we are rorting the system. I didn’t want my clients to loose their therapeutic alliance and a speechie that has known them most of their lives so I started my own sole trading. It’s long hours, crazy stress and I don’t even know if I will be able to afford the audit come 2025 but for now my kiddos are safe and getting therapy. All the govt has managed to do is privatise the old block grant system and lie about choice and control and that’s all I have to say about that. As a result I’ve got no real WIPs but I have this… you can see that I write dialogue first.
If you’ve come to tell me I’ve besmirched my honour, that the castle is in an uproar… I care not.
Your grace.
Ser Davos I am no princess.
The laws of the realm say
So Tyrion Lannister crowns my brother and frees the north for my sister and now I am smothered by titles? I knew I should have killed that-
Id never really thought about it like that Milady. Allow an old man a small courtesy? I accepted my title for services to Stannis Baratheon. Plenty of times I thought better of it but I did it for those who came after me. Lord Gendry well he doesn’t say, quiet sort that he is -
Surly
As you say, but i think I’m right in saying he had similar thoughts. I don’t think either of us thought that there might be others on the other side of it. Born to the titles and the power and wanting none of it, wanting to be rid of it.
He is a good lad lady Arya. Give him longer. He can’t stay this angry for long.
I can’t stay ser Davos
Forgive me but I’ve lived longer on decking than I have on dry land or had till your brother made me hand. The tides they come again. Like circles they are. Why not tarry even if he’s determined to make himself unpleasant.
He doesn’t have to put effort into that. He’s had it mastered for years. You are married Ser, children?

TOURISM AS WE HAVE KNOWN IT IN HAWAI`I IS OVER

Travel Weekly - April 16, 2025 Envisioning revolutionary changes for Hawaii's tourism industry, Hawaii Visitors and Convention Bureau CEO Aaron Sala said at the Travel Weekly Hawaii Leadership Forum on April 15, "Tourism as we have known it is over." Sala was hired last September, coming to the HVCB as a business entrepreneur and educator. As president and CEO of Gravitas Pasifika, he led a boutique firm dedicated to advancing Native Hawaiian talent. Sala's hire is in line with Hawaii tourism's movement toward prioritizing the well-being of Native Hawaiians (including tourism workers), environmental protection and cultural preservation, while de-emphasizing growth in visitor numbers. "The traditional model is not just outdated, it is extractive, colonial, dangerously romantic," he said. "It asked communities to perform authenticity while their futures were auctioned off for occupancy. It celebrated arrivals while silencing the voices of those displaced by rising rents and eroding shorelines. And yet this traditional approach remains the one too many are still polishing, buffing the rust off a machine that was never built to serve all of us in the first place.” Sala said that he did not come to the HVCB to maintain the status quo, but rather to end it. He described this as a transformational time for Hawaii and the HVCB, and he looks forward to building more partnerships and collaborations. "Whether we recognize it or not, our campaigns, our inventories, our itineraries, they all play a role in larger geopolitical narratives, narratives of dependency, narratives of dominance, narratives of dispossession," he said. "Let us not pretend that we are doing enough or that we are doing it fast enough. Too many of us are still acting like [the tourism numbers we had in] 1995, or 2019 even, might come back if we just market it better. But neither of those worlds is real, neither of those worlds is returning.” A Call For A 'New Tourism Compact' Sala said he wanted to share this message as a call to action, so that others in the industry can work together with the HVCB to reconstruct its strategy and models. He refers to the HVCB as "becoming a destination futures enterprise, a force for cultural stewardship, economic innovation and geopolitical fluency." "In addition to the work that we are doing to reimagine ourselves internally as a visitors and convention bureau, through strategic efforts of our team, we challenge all of you to join us in the co-creation, perhaps, of a new tourism compact," he said. "That compact is meant to be a global framework rooted in regenerative principles, cultural integrity and systemic equity. We want to do this together. Partner with us on innovation pilots, if you have an idea, if you're a wholesaler, if you're a hotelier, if you work in airlines and you have an idea that makes sense to partner with us, bring that idea to us." Sala's words sparked discussion during the wholesaler/tour operator panel, which gave positive and optimistic feedback about the HVCB's shift. "I love the fact that they're asserting their leadership and basically wanting to communicate the proper message and controlling the narrative of what Hawaii is. I think a lot of things they're doing is fantastic, and we're happily supporting it," said David Hu, president and CEO of Pleasant Holidays. Ray Snisky, group president of ALG Vacations, said that it's a different approach "that's badly needed," and he is confident that it can be done when stakeholders work together. "I have a tremendous amount of optimism," he said. Snisky said the next step is "forming an execution plan and doing that together….”

PC Engine - Shape Shifter: Makai Eiyuuden
Title: Shape Shifter: Makai Eiyuuden / シェイプシフター 魔界英雄伝
Developer: ICOM Simulations Inc.
Publisher: Turbo Technologies Inc. / Victor Musical Industries
Release date: 29 September 1992
Catalogue No.: JCCD2011
Genre: Action / Adventure
Format: Super CD-ROM2
This is the first time I have actually seen a Japanese PC Engine release actually credit "Turbo Technologies Inc.", or TTI as they called it. In case you don't know, TTI was a spin-off joint venture set up by NEC Technologies (basically the North American arm of NEC Home Electronics) and Hudson Soft to handle the sales, distribution, marketing, and support of the TurboGrafx-16 line of consoles in North America. After the TurboGrafx-16's lukewarm initial reception in the territory, the joint entity was established in 1992 as Hudson Soft was still confident in the platform's long-term prospects and thought NEC wasn't doing an optimal job as their North American partner. The aim of the new arrangement was to give Hudson Soft more control over the North American operations, while still allowing NEC input and a share of the profits.
The graphics are clean and detailed, the music is catchy and each main character's voice acted quite well (no Last Alert-level bad voice acting shenanigans here), though admittedly I own the Japanese version so, we get JP voice acting here. Adding to this is some wonderful parallax scrolling that many of the system’s side-scrollers lacked. The ICOM team (the same team behind the Consulting Detective Sherlock Holmes games) even wrote the ending song, “Slipping into Nowhere.” Pretty cool to have a game with its own song back then.
It isn’t a perfect title, though - I’m not partial to the Americanized artwork in the cut scenes. There are some blocky transparency issues, and the microphones were too hot when the voices were recorded - or could it be that the voices are actually stored in the PC Engine's system card memory? The music, while catchy sounds like it was recorded using a department store synthesizer made out of that thin silver aerosol paint you can get from Halfords, and also, while the voices were acted well, the main character’s voice is tenor when someone with a more masculine bass should have been used.

Hello, this is the Oldie Chinese Diaspora Anon™️
Anon here voiced a frustration that I think we all share, from time to time. The commentators have brought up some very important points, but I think it may be important to show you a fuller picture. It’s not just about a concept of freedom, but what it can actually mean.
First of all, to say there are few, or no incidences of fraud in the Chinese BJD community is objectively false. The infamous Baidu BJD Tucao Bar (
) and it’s more updated counterpart on Weixin exist because of three reasons – it’s a place to vent within a community, a place where two sides of a dispute can come together to share their side in a court of public opinion and finally, to call out and expose scammers. The following examples are all in Chinese, of course – but how else to show you what’s really going on unless you actually see for yourself? Now, the extent of what’s considered a “scam” is stretched far and wide, but included are common complaints about how individual indie artists have inconsistent pre-orders (https://tieba.baidu.com/p/8126795911 ), long wait times (http://c.tieba.baidu.com/p/8446099713 ) the quality of the resin from these indie artists are brittle/streaky/full of bubbles (https://tieba.baidu.com/p/7657831519 ), as well as horrid communication with customer service (https://tieba.baidu.com/p/7216544824 ).
Other scammers have:
Sold counterfeits as real: http://c.tieba.baidu.com/p/6319214040
Attempt to claw back prices after receiving a second-hand doll (usually banking on the seller being afraid of a bad feedback) http://c.tieba.baidu.com/p/8422233115
Scams that occur during trades (didn’t send anything, send trash instead of dolls, recalled a package while still receiving something from the sender, etc) https://tieba.baidu.com/p/6138333817
Running away with down-payments: https://tieba.baidu.com/p/7546265316
Cheaters trading across different fandoms: https://tieba.baidu.com/p/6237611363
What’s the use of this “social credit system” if it doesn’t really stop the scamming, then?
I think I may have mentioned this earlier; the point of a social credit system is more about controlling a population’s aggregate behaviour than the behaviour of individuals. It’s there to quash dissent instead of keeping a community crime-free. Think about it this way, BJD collectors are a small, niche market with a high price tag. And if the Chinese government is lax enough to allow rampant counterfeit foods and medication to go on for years (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hIpA_RwEtLE&t=33s and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GYr87XCAa48 and https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-china-56080092 ), would the system really protect a small group of rather privileged individuals? You might ask, “Hey, OCDA, aren’t these people caught? That means the system works, right?” The answer is, “Yes, and they are just the tip of the iceberg. There are plenty more of these people who were never caught.” I think we have all heard that just because something’s immoral doesn’t mean it’s illegal. Legality is never the bottom line that we should hold each other accountable to, but these folks get by banking on that their immorality will never be caught, and unless they were caught, what they do aren’t illegal.
On the other hand, the government is quick to stop anything that could cause a social stir. No matter how big the topic might be (human trafficking, public corruption, the existence of COVID, you name it), if there was too much interest in a topic that the government deemed “unsuitable” (if it gives you an answer at all), it can be rubbed out of social media overnight. This is possible because 1. There’s only one kind of social media, which is closely monitored by the State and 2. There’s the Great Firewall of China and scaling the wall can incur a fine and sometimes even probation. The person who started the whole furor may be invited by the police for a talking-to (or just disappeared, either way.)
BJDs are small fry, we know that, so where do minor “scams” lie? Yes, it is inherently frustrating as a consumer to realise that one cannot reinforce trade laws across borders or hold non-registered sellers under the same scrutiny as a registered company. I understand that personally as a victim of a bungled preorder as well. But this so-called “Social Credit” system is never the way to go. Not even Black Mirror or Minority Report can replicate the reality that’s inside China, folks. The truth is worse than fiction.

Any authentic anti-authoritarian resistance should be an offer: an open offer to all who cherish freedom, sharing, giving, healthy habitats, mutual aid, cooperation and voluntary association.
It isn’t just for the ultra-exploited or the severely marginalized. It isn’t open only to the excluded or the imprisoned or the hungry and poor. But it listens carefully to all these voices because they know firsthand of the most brutal hardships authoritarian systems impose on their inhabitants. It doesn’t scapegoat anyone because of their genital morphology. It doesn’t point self-righteous fingers at skin tones or linguistic groups. It doesn’t exclude some because of their place of birth on the social ladder. It has a low tolerance for judgment, guilt and shame as weapons and tools. We are all in this mess together, and we need to make room for all of us to contribute meaningfully to a way out. Our solidarity is an invitation to all.
But History has created identities marked by privilege for some, victimization and powerlessness for others, and the rebellions are determined to free everyone from these chains. In the meantime, there can be no place for those who want power, who want to control others.
An anarchic rebellion aimed at healthy habitats and free, unique individuals embedded in authentic communities, makes room for the old and the frail, for the young and the strong, for the impatient and the patient, for those who are repulsed by violence and those who view its use as another weapon in our arsenal. Morality and dichotomous world views cannot choose it, because it is an organic, site-specific impetus. Each region, each town, neighborhood, affinity-culture, or tribe can base its secession from the nation-state on their own desires, tenets, and dreams.
Starting from a circle of friends--or a neighborhood, an eco-village, an island, a commune, an ethnic group, part of a city, a city, a region, a clan, a reserve, a cult--its ultimate aim is always access to territory from which the group can sustain itself. This means that it always seeks access to land. Naturally, there is room for wandering lone wolves, nomadic families, and hobo tribes, as long as free villages and liberated zones aren’t viewed as mini welfare states for them to depend on.
Do you know how to grow or gather food? Do any of your neighbors? I don’t mean a weekend garden, but enough to sustain you and your extended family over a winter. Should the capitalist market collapse, and the stores all get looted, what would you eat? Do you have seeds, a fishing rod or a hunting weapon? Do you know how to use any ofthese? Is there a place unpolluted enough that you could goto for food? Are you part of a tribe, a community or a clan? Are you woven tightly enough into any social group that would be willing to help each other out in a time of crisis, or are you an atomized individual whose social group consists mostly of your immediate family, with a few friends you see occasionally at work or at play?
The vast majority of Europeans and North Americans, and of urban dwellers everywhere, are just like you. They have no seeds, no survival skills and no fishing rod or hunting weapon, belong to no genuine community, haven’t a garden or access to an unpolluted place from which they can gather food or medicine. You aren’t alone, at least in your predicament.
One doesn’t always have the option of joining in social disturbances, most often you have to take responsibility and help create them. This isn’t as difficult as you might think at first. It involves taking time away from work. It means saying hello to a stranger. It asks you to turn off your TV and other weapons of social control. Where possible, it involves exploring the wilderness and countryside closest to you.
Revolt requires being optimistic in the face of the nearly insurmountable. It means viewing privacy not as something to preserve and protect, but to unburden oneself from. It demands that you spend more time with children, not only yours, but children in general. It requires you to envision humans as a collection of individual life-forms each an integral part of a natural home.

[ 04 ] tucked away in the bunks of a tiny spaceship
From the sci-fi settings prompts
The Atlantis boys + Doom (unless you want different muses!) (also I used a random number generator to pick for us and this is what it came up with xD)
@the-haunted-office
The crew quarters wasn't huge but it wasn't tiny either. The lights were somewhat dim, to go with the ship's somewhat beat-up, rogue appearance. To anyone who didn't know the vessel, it seemed indeed to belong to some kind of rogue or smuggler. It fit in better in the seedier parts of the galaxy, the more remote areas, than it did in the bright shiny city areas.
The place definitely looked lived in, though. The bunks were covered in various covers and blankets either salvaged from derelicts or acquired from various markets (legal and illegal) on multiple worlds. Such were all the other furnishings on board.
The only exceptions were bits of technology one couldn't see just by looking at the vessel. It was modified using Rovarian technology, including its control/computer systems, combat/defense systems (including a cloaking device), and engines/flight tech. These were certainly not the only additions, but they were the most important ones.
This was the Zeleya Maru, whose name no one on board knew the origin of, whose original creators no on on board knew the name of, and who was currently home to two humans and their ghostly friend. Currently the two humans lay on the bunk they shared, Rourke's arm draped over Milo, who had fallen asleep with his glasses on again. Both slept fully clothed, removing only shoes, socks, and any gear or sidearms, though both left their crystals on.
The other bunk had been left for their friend. Not that she had a need for sleep, at least not like they did; it was meant more to give her a space of her own, like they had.
A soft chiming sounded beside them, and Milo's eyes fluttered open.
"mmmm, alright, Maru, I'm up. Cancel alarm."
"Alarm canceled." came the soft voice of the ship's computer from the speaker beside them. Milo slowly eased out from under Rourke's arm and sat up on the side of the bunk, careful not to wake the bigger man, despite it technically being Rourke's vessel.
"Morning, Doom." Milo said, rubbing sleep out of his eyes. "Take it nothing happened while we slept?"

Exhibiton VI

IU664 and H2U8M are sitting back in the troops transporter, their suits clamped onto the seats, helmets locked back on their skulls, visor closed. IU664 opens a channel to H2U8M sitting next to him.
IU664's voice resonated through the encrypted channel, reverberating within the confines of the armored suits.
"So, H2U8M, the Enviro Corps is a different breed altogether. They wear green, not red, and their discipline seems a bit more relaxed, if you can believe it. No constant chattering from the instructors or AI in their helmets. And get this, they use their actual names, not just those alphanumeric designators we're stuck with."
IU664's visor, manipulated by a flicker of his eyes, displayed snippets of the exhibition – images of shovels, gardening tools, and that peculiar harness with the chromed spade. The contrast with the red-clad, disciplined world of the Paramedic Corps was stark.
"Jack, the Enviro recruit I paired up with, seems to take pride in their gardening tools. The spade, in particular, has some kind of ceremonial significance. They even wear it mounted on their back as part of their formal gear. It's a symbol, I guess. But he also mentioned some kinky undertones with that chromed spade harness they wear."
H2U8M, his helmet subtly nodding, listened intently. The hum of the transporter's engine and the faint whirr of the environmental systems underscored IU664's recounting.
"Their induction process involves learning about nature, reclamation, reforestation, and gardening. Physical labor, of all things. Can you imagine?" IU664's tone conveyed a mix of disbelief and fascination. "They're taught to embrace the land, to become one with it, or so Jack said. It's a whole different philosophy from our rigid paramedic training."
"We knew what we were getting into when we enlisted," IU664 remarked, his voice a steady cadence. "The recruiters laid it all out – the discipline, the conditioning, the surveillance. It's a package deal, service bundled with control and a complete overhaul of the way we think. I mean, even our thoughts are no longer solely ours."
H2U8M, seated beside him, nodded within the confines of his suit, a gesture IU664 could sense more than see. The hum of the transporter's engine underscored their conversation as the vehicle navigated the familiar route back to the barracks.
"Jack, the Enviro Corps guy, he seemed surprised when I mentioned our neuro conditioning. They don't tamper with their recruits' personalities, or so he claims. It's a different approach, more hands-on with nature and less intrusion into the mind. I almost envy him, to be honest." H2U8M, his voice resonating through the confined space of the armored transport, shared with IU664 the details of his pairing. "I was paired up with a LifeGuard," he revealed, the subdued glow of his visor hinting at the intricacies of the exchange.
"The LifeGuards, they're a different breed," H2U8M continued. "Their pitch is all about versatility – kids' clubs, swimming lessons, conscript service, advanced training. It's like they're marketing a lifestyle, not just a conscript service. They catch recruits young, get them into the fold through swimming lessons and cadet programs. It's a subtle approach, appealing to a broad spectrum of society."
As the transport rumbled on, its path determined by the automated systems, H2U8M's visor displayed snippets of LifeGuard propaganda posters and slogans. "See how they present themselves, all nice and hydrodynamic on the posters. It's an image of health, athleticism, and service," he remarked, the analytical tone of his voice suggesting both observation and a hint of skepticism.
IU664, his voice laced with a hint of cynicism, shared more about his acquaintance from school who had taken the LifeGuard path. "My old school buddy, now a LifeGuard, guards a harbor up North. It's all about robust security, they say, wrapped in a veneer of swimming expertise. Probably spend more time patrolling the water than securing it," he remarked, the subtle twist in his words reflecting the underlying skepticism.
"They've got this image of being the guardians of safety, but it's interesting how they emphasize swimming so much. Almost as if it's a subtle way to build up the 'heroic lifesaver' narrative," IU664 mused, his visor displaying snippets of LifeGuard propaganda posters – images of well-toned individuals diving into pristine waters.
"And the way they sell it as a versatile service, offering everything from kids' clubs to advanced training – it's like they're building a community, not just a security force. Quite the marketing strategy they've got there," IU664 added, his tone conveying a mix of analysis and sardonic observation.
IU664 relayed Jack's stance to H2U8M as they sat in the back of the transporter, the rhythmic hum of the vehicle accompanying their conversation. "Jack's not a fan of how many organizations have become militarized," IU664 explained, the disapproval evident in his voice.
"He mentioned how even LifeGuards, traditionally focused on water safety and rescue, are now armed. It's like every service is adopting a military persona. LifeGuards with guns – quite the departure from the serene image of lifeguards patrolling the beaches," IU664 remarked, his visor subtly displaying images of LifeGuards, not with rescue buoys, but with rifles.
IU664 leaned back in his seat, visor displaying data about the extensive reach of the LifeGuards. "It's not just about beaches and swimming pools anymore," he explained to H2U8M. "The LifeGuards have absorbed roles like the Coast Guard, Harbor Police, and even parts of the Navy. It's a consolidation of power under the guise of safety and security."
His visor projected images of LifeGuard conscripts standing guard at harbors, equipped not just with lifebuoys but also rifles and security gear. "Jack finds it disconcerting – the blurring of lines between what were once distinct services. Water treatment plants and naval operations falling under the umbrella of the LifeGuards – it's a far cry from the traditional roles these organizations used to play."
H2U8M's observed "There used to be distinct services for firefighting, mountain rescue, and even water rescue. Now, we've been streamlined into this unified force. The tactical paramedic concept is a product of that amalgamation. They've meshed medical response with security and tactical operations, all in the name of efficiency and control."
He glanced at the images still flickering in his visor, showcasing the evolution of the paramedic services. "Mountain Rescuers, once a dedicated group with specific skills, are now integrated into the broader Paramedic Corps
IU664 remarked: "remember the Paramedic Corps has youth clubs as well and run these climbing canters"
H2U8M raised an eyebrow, his voice tinged with a touch of skepticism. "Youth clubs? Climbing centers?"
IU664 explained with a hint of irony, "Yes, ma'am. They call it 'Physical and Mental Conditioning for the Future Paramedic.' It's essentially a program for young individuals to foster camaraderie, discipline, and the 'paramedic spirit' from an early age. They engage in activities that blend physical fitness with the core values of the Paramedic Corps."
H2U8M chuckled, "Sounds like a subtle way of indoctrinating them into the Corps from childhood."
IU664 nodded, "Exactly. They're building a pipeline of recruits who not only conform to the physical standards but also internalize the paramedic ethos. By the time they're eligible for conscription, they're already molded to fit seamlessly into the system."
IU664 leaned in, his voice barely audible through the sealed helmets. "Didn't you know the guy from our cohort who didn't go into Tactical Training but they sent him to become a Youth Group Leader? They're training to establish those in every city and train conscripts for that."
H2U8M frowned, processing the information. "You mean they're creating a network of conscripted youth leaders to extend their influence beyond the training facilities?"
IU664 nodded, "Exactly, ma'am. It's part of their strategy to imprint the paramedic mindset early on. The youth groups are designed to instill not only physical fitness but also a sense of duty, loyalty, and adherence to the Corps' principles. It's a way to shape minds even before conscription."
H2U8M laughed, "Stop calling me 'ma'am.' We're not in the classroom anymore."
IU664 smiled beneath the sealed helmet, "Alright, H2U8M. No more formalities. Just two conscripts sharing a transport ride, talking about the world the Corps made for us."
H2U8M mockingly remarked, "I'm gonna ride your ass when we're back in our sleeping cubicles.
