i really like the point percy makes (and that vax eventually agrees with) about civilization during their conversation about westruun after umbrasyl was killed — a city built by very people's hands deserves preservation and saving as much as those same people leaving in it.

it's such a beautiful point about history and culture being as important to keeping human civilization alive as saving lives of people. preserving knowledge build into the walls of cities can become a new starting point, a foundation that the new generation will be built upon, more equipped and smart. and just not entirely faceless. remembering the culture is important, it's an identity, it's a customized dress that tells about the roots of beliefs and explains people's behavior. it's a wisdom carefully interwoven into the tale of creation of this specific piece of the world.

and percy being the one who lost overnight his whole family and his town knows about it more than a man of his age would want to. the history of his family was inseparable from the culture of whitestone and one of briarwoods' goals was to tear it down in the most cruel way. to smear the de rolo's name in their own blood and dirt and render their town faceless and hopeless, only useful of their own vicious plans.

and it now makes so much sense to me personally why vax was so determined to use pelor as a symbol of hope, spreading it as a signal everywhere he went. he understood it, too. he saw pieces of whitestone culture being destroyed and wanted to bring them to life in people's hearts in the form of symbolism carried over in spoken word. and yes, he wanted to help percy. yes, it was done for the rebellion. but one doesn't cancel the other. and in my opinion, it wasn't just about percy defeating the briarwoods but more about percy being a still alive and standing piece of whitestone history and culture that can be and should be a symbol himself.

a symbol of rebirth of the culture that there used to be, a culture attached to the de rolo family and hence attached to whitestone.

i just find all of this incredibly compelling in terms of character building and in terms of simply being a human being serching for what's important in life.

There is ABSOLUTELY a Hell subreddit(more like a normal subreddit amirite fellow Tumblr users /j) dedicated to trying to figure out who the overlords were when they were alive. The only ones they have definitive answers for are Alastor, and maybe Vox and Velvette because Alastor is not. He is not subtle. Vox was probably pretty famous when he was alive and has a really distinctive voice, and if Velvette was a popular influencer she would probably be pretty easy to recognize too because she also has a very distinctive voice and she actually looks relatively humanoid. The others though? There are so many insane theories and deep dives about them. None of the others are in very public eye industries, so any and all suspects for their identities would probably have to be dug up from criminal records by Hellborns with Asmodean Crystals. The boards are like a horrible amalgamation of stan Twitter trying to figure out everything about their fave celebrity and true crime girlies. The hot takes are absolutely atrocious-

It seems to me that if tumblr staff/CEO won't listen to the userbase when we say we don't want changes that would radically impact the site's functioning and communities, we should be going over their heads and contacting WordPress instead. The dream would be to somehow contact tumblr/wordpress shareholders directly and warn them we are on track for a greatly diminished userbase and present our own proposal for monetising the site that doesn't destroy it, but I don't know who would have the connections to make that happen if it's feasible in the first place.

hm yeah so Campaign 1 has fairly basic accent work like Vex and Vax are posh half elves they get posh english accents, Percy is posh so he gets a super posh english accent. Grog is not posh and he is stupid and he is a barbarian, he is uneducated, so he gets an uneducated, working class London-esque accent. This is very common in fantasy and I adore Travis's accent work, it's genuinely one of the best non posh accents by someone who isn't English, but if you start thinking about it 'stupid/idiotic' people or races getting real 'uneducated' accents and smart people and the ruling classes getting 'posh' english accents is something that does bother me and a problem to be noted across fantasy works, even if they're american and american is the neutral accent they still do this? And it's okay because it was just a home game put on screen and they pulled on popular tropes and their previous VA experience etc. It's fine, but it's also boring. I want the ruling class to have a different accent damn it.

But in Campaign 2 the accent choices are more varied out of just English speaking countries, but I want to talk about Travis's accent choices are rad. He's doing a Texan accent but you realise it's not his natural accent and his natural accent is an English one (more neutral and light than the posh C1 accents). So like this Texan accent is something Fjord uses because he saw someone use it who commanded respect. So like instead of this weird constant fantasy trope of posh accents commanding respect is flipped as it's a Texan one. It's not completely as it's not like a cultural or class thing (from what I gather, unless FCG has a southern accent because that's the most respectful accent so of course a robot would be designed to have that accent) that causes Fjord to use the Texan accent it's because of one guy he admires BUT after so many damn posh accents and English accents in fantasy it's just more interesting to see this inversion and this character not picking an RP accent to be taken more seriously. And I don't think Travis was trying to do anything-- I imagine he just picked two accents that contrast each other clearly imo. But after stupid grog with his stupid accent

All the Vee's have their own reality shows. Jointly they have a Shark Tank type show where they make investments in new businesses and products (but mostly just ruthlessly mock people) and an American Idol type show where they judge competing aspiring entertainers (but mostly just ruthlessly mock them). Individually, I see Vox having something like The Apprentice. I could see Velvette having an America's Next Top Model style show, and Valentino has... something similar but for porn stars LMAO.

Alright here's my full (possibly hot) take on redesigning Hazbin Hotel characters and making a video showcasing those redesigns while you criticize the official designs.

First and foremost, you are redesigning someone else's OCs. Hazbin Hotel is, in essence, a passion project for Viv. How she talks about it makes that incredibly clear to me. The only difference between Hazbin Hotel and, for example, the story I'm developing surrounding some of my D&D OCs is that Hazbin Hotel got picked up by a streaming service and is significantly more popular than most passsion projects get.

Personally if someone wanted to redesign my D&D OCs, I wouldn't mind it, in fact I'd probably think it was really cool that someone would want to redesign one of my OCs to be closer to their tastes in terms of what they like to draw. I would, however, be made incredibly uncomfortable if someone made a video redesigning them where they also pointed out everything they thought was wrong with the designs. I didn't design these specific D&D characters to be 1-to-1 accurate to their classes in D&D or to look professionally designed. I designed them how I wanted them to look for the story I'm telling because I don't plan to ever play them in a campaign. The main character Avlan is a paladin, and I can acknowledge that his design might not look exactly like a paladin. One of the tabaxi in the story (Ice) is a bard and the other (Spark) is a ranger, and I acknowledge that their classes might not come across well in their designs. The single tiefling I've designed for this story (Tragedy) is a cleric but might not come off as one in their design. But I specifically designed them to be easy for me to draw because I want to be able to tell this story through my art. Having someone say "oh, Avlan's armor isn't paladin enough!" or "Avlan's fur colors and patterns should be closer to a wild rabbit's because harengon shouldn't be based on domestic rabbit colors!" would fucking hurt (especially because I'm so attached to Avlan, but it would hurt just as much if similar comments were made about Ice, Spark, or Tragedy). I am so passionate about these characters and being told their designs are bad or wrong in some way would be like a stab in the heart, and it would still feel like a stab in the heart if this story ever got a massive fandom behind it. Giving Avlan more complex armor because you think it'd look cool or just want to see what it'd look like? Sure, if I could draw more complex armor I'd give him more complex armor too. Giving him more complex armor but also shitting on the armor I decide to draw him with? My motivation to draw him in his armor, potentially draw him period, would be dead for WEEKS.

Why is it suddenly okay just because someone's passion project was picked up by Amazon Prime? Why is it suddenly okay to be "fixing" someone's character designs just because the project has a much bigger budget than most artists get and is on a popular streaming service? It's not. I don't care if you're a professional character designer, or think a specific character would look better with certain traits, or just don't like the character designs.

Hazbin Hotel is still Vivienne Medrano's passion project, and redesigning her characters and making videos talking about everything you think is "wrong" with them is, honestly, disgusting. You can make videos explaining your choices in your redesigns without putting down the designs that already exist, whether you like them or not. Me thinking Lucifer looks better with his tail not restricted to his full demon form doesn't suddenly mean I don't like his official design, because I fucking love it. If you wouldn't do it to an artist whose passion project is just a webcomic here on Tumblr, don't fucking do it to an artist whose passion project got picked up for a cartoon by a big streaming service (or any company for that matter).
