We'll Fly Away by Bryan Bliss

Spoilers ahead if you ever decide to read this book

Does anyone else have that one book you hate with a burning passion? Well for me it is We’ll Fly Away by Bryan Bliss. We’ll Fly Away is only an average to slightly below average book, but it makes my blood boil. This book is so fucking stupid and so up it’s own ass it’s so aggravating. Like some parts are fine. The plot if it were bullet points? Fine. The first person letters that appear occasionally between chapters? Actually I kind of enjoyed those, some got me to actually use my brain for a second. The romance? Fucking sucks. The writing for female characters? Also terrible (related). All of the characters? Mostly either forgettable or bad. The writing? Most of it ranges from mediocre to uncomfortable. Like the pedophilic relationship that’s apparently mostly fine cause he’s (real quote) “A dick-hair away from 18!” like what does that even mean???? It’s still a woman in her mid-twenties trying to get with an abused 17 year old and separating him from his only real support system. Also the other love interest is constantly getting new personalities based on whatever is needed. She starts out as a rebel who hates the protags. Then becomes chill after one conversation. Enters housewife mode. Then becomes a cardboard cutout of a character for the rest of the book. Also the end was predictable, its pretty boring at some parts, the ending feels off, and all of the interesting stuff happens in the last few pages. Some parts were. I actually liked some stuff at the very beginning. But like- still. The whole cigarette smuggling plot also felt as if it came out of nowhere. It got themes mostly right, but not characters. I hate that i was forced to read this book.

The Pythagoras Trio is everything. They have a guy who wants to be loved but gave up on it so focused his sights on lashing back at those who made him feel that way but somehow found people who loved him, making him desperately try to return that favour through the work he excelled at instead of by sharing who he really was. They also have a guy who grew up trying so hard despite being average until he miraculously got his dream but that was because of his brother, and even after he found his true talent he struggled with inferiority. And they also have a guy who basically sparkled with talent that was cultivated by someone who was using him to feel good about himself, a guy who loves so much because he was so lonely and desperate for friends and yet was ripped away from it because he could not abandon a friend who left him.

They're teammates. They're best friends. They're narrative foils of each other. They have violent fights. They understand each other like no one else can. They can't understand each other fully. They have the drama, the support, the angsty breakups and divorces, the emotional getting back together, the brotherhood, the comic relief trio role, the secrets - they really have it all.

Here is a drawing I did of Rocket, Lylla, Teefs and Floor as humans. My idea is that, in this universe, they were all super soldiers who were part of a secret program ran by the High Evolutionary to enhance humanity with cybernetic implants and make them the "superior" race. They were all children who were abducted from their homes and experimented on, given superhuman abilities, reflexes and intelligence beyond human capability. Rocket, Lylla, Teefs and Floor escaped the program and become a military unit. These drawings are my headcanon of how these characters would look if they were human.

Finally bit the bullet about sentimentality and going to At Some Point get a burner lavos to subsume bc 1) I was looking at my in-progress frost avalanche build and it's the first build I'd really love to put vial rush on actually bc it sounds fun as hell (and solves some of my issues with how damn slow frost is) and 2) last night i watched a streamer make a vial rush loki build and it was hilarious and i wanna do dumb shit like that too

OHHH such a SCANDALOUS question Amira!!! Well, hand holding started pretty young for me and Armin way before we even got together! A lot of the time it was a comfort thing, I held his hand a lot when we were kids and he went through all the loss he did, and during our first battles/our first trip outside of the walls I had moments where I needed to be grounded due to intense fear and terror and he was there to hold my hand and help me stay calm <3 But officially in a romantic sense? Literally right after we confessed to each other (This was right after the battle for wall maria, right after the whole toasty Armin moment 😭), we stayed like that for hours, just holding hands contemplating what was next while sitting atop the walls. It was very comforting that time because it meant something different, but it was very sweet and a moment I'll forever cherish <3 TYSM FOR THE ASK <3333

There’s a village on the other side of the gate. It’s hard to tell how big, but you can just pick out the shapes of huts and buildings among the snowstorm. The lamps are dark, and by now you’ve lost too much light to see if there’s smoke from the chimneys.

You barely get a few steps in when you hear the telltale patter of paws. You know exactly what kind, too; it’s a cadence and weight you’ve heard many times on the Celestial Plain.

Wolf. No. Wolves.

You barely had time to look away from the horizon, and there they are in front of you. There’s two, three of them, and every time you turn your head one more seems to appear on either side. Their uneasy growling and grumbling cuts through the wind, clearly just as confused at seeing you are you are of them. It’s impolite to stare, but you find your eyes darting between the masks all pushed up on their foreheads, a menagerie of beasts staring lifelessly at the snow above. You’re starting to wonder if they belong to a hunting group; what kind of hunter dresses their--

“Hey!” one barks, “What’re you doing at Lake Laochi’s gate?”

Did... did the wolf just speak? You’ve heard Amaterasu speak in her wolf form before, but that was on the Celestial Plain, and from the mouth of a god. Hearing this one speak here catches you just off guard enough to keep you silent, blinking owlishly back at the canine, much like the mask on her forehead.

“Yeah!” barks another before you can even think to summon words. His head tilts, the seal mask almost comical with the gesture. “Don’t you know it’s dangerous at night? Are you trying to freeze to death?”

“Who are you anyway?” questions a third, and you try not to startle when it emerges from behind you, just as stealthy as the weasel at his ears. “Never seen someone funny looking as you.”

“Ah--?” It’s all you get out before a deeper voice cuts through the chatter.

“Hush. All of you.” The command comes from the largest wolf, the one directly in front of you. He takes so bold a step forward you find yourself taking a small step back, slowly raising your hands in submission. His stare is unwavering, fierce as the bear mask upon his brow. “Do you not smell it? This man reeks of demons.”

Your blood instantly turns to ice, and the resolve you had built earlier is threatening to wobble again. He knows. Either that or he thinks you’re one yourself. Either way, this is not boding well. You can’t tell if your hands are shaking from the cold or from fear as the leader wolf cranes his neck back, clamping his teeth around what you now realize is the hilt of a sword. You go to try and speak, but are instantly silenced when you find yourself staring down the length of the blade. It’s actually frightening how effortlessly the beast snapped it towards you, the point a mere lunge away from your neck.

“Don’t think of trying to cause trouble,” he warns, voice unwavering even around the sword in his teeth, “We will do whatever it takes to keep Wep’keer from coming to harm.”

You usually pride yourself on having a way with words, but to your horror all of them keep dying in your throat. What are you supposed to say in a time like this? Even if you told them the truth, you’re not sure how much they’d believe it... or how sympathetic they’d stay once they pry for details. You've got to get out of here, but you’re quite literally surrounded: you're certainly in no condition to run, or to even fight back long enough to give yourself an opening. Either option seems like it’d end in disaster before escape. You can’t die yet. Not now.

Something in the folds of your clothes hums, and when you focus on it, you hear one of the tablets clinking against the others. It instantly it dawns on you that you have a third option. Dare you take it, though? Teleportation is already a fickle beast when you know where you’re going; you can’t imagine a stunt like this would be pleasant in this scenario...

You close your eyes and concentrate, trying to will your people’s technology to cooperate outside of your hands. It hurts to breathe this deep, but you have to center yourself as much as you can. Anywhere but here, you think, as if the tablet would understand, anywhere but here... The space around you ripples, like the surface of a pond.

“Does anyone else feel that?”

“What’s he doing?”

“Hey! Stop!”

The world blinks, and in a glimmer, you’re gone.

Look, I know the movie is going to disappoint, but both GotG3 trailers are among my all-time favorites.

Gardenia (my vivillion) has been trying to follow me out the door whenever I go to the battle club after dinner. I come back to find him moping every time. Only the battle club though, not when I leave for work or anywhere else. I typically don't take him with me but I think tomorrow I will. Some part of me thinks the battling would be good exercise for him but I also remember how much his mood improved after he stopped battling. We'll see. Stay tuned.
