I am working on some Pagan Kaiju artwork for the Season of the Witch, which happens to be very sacred to this interstellar sorcerer. However, this was not what I was looking for with a prompt subject of, "Wiccan Godzilla."

I really enjoy the artwork it rendered and I like the X-Men character, but I do feel like naming a character Wiccan is like naming a character Muslim, Hebrew or Buddhist. Would this be considered appropriation? I have the same pondering about the character Magick and other fantasy uses of the word "magick" over "magic". What are your thoughts?

I am autistic and have an unspecified attention deficit disorder! I do need tone tags once in a while. I also might take a while to respond because I just... Forget-- I'm really sorry about that, but it's just how I am.

I have highly suspected MaDD. MaDD is a disorder in which the person cannot stop daydreaming, they have in depth worlds in their heads about characters with their own personalities and backstories. This was developed as a coping mechanism while I was in a very abusive household. If you see me typing relatively nonsensical gibberish in a post, someone probably exploded in my head or something.

I have screentime limits! As someone who is still in their teens, my parents monitor my screentime. So if I don't immediately respond to your message, or forget to answer your ask before my time limits are up, don't take it personally!

I will never actively feed or engage in discourse or syscourse. These situations are deeply distressing for me and evoke a lot of harsh memories from my trauma. I have been online for too long and was raised by the internet, unfortunately. I have seen a lot of discourse in my time and will try my best to avoid it at all cost and will block freely if I see someone feeding this discourse.

Have you seen the new Renfield movie? If so, what are your thoughts on it?

I saw it last week, and I enjoyed it a fair bit. I did not go in expecting a great deal from it in terms of its faithfulness to the original text or its value as high art (I was very much interested in it for Cagecula, who delivered, in my opinion). It was a fun time for somebody who has generally eased up a lot about the goofy potentialities of Dracula adjacent media over the years and who is not averse to gratuitous gore.

[Spoilers and Some Criticisms Beneath the Cut]

In terms of its flaws, I do feel the plot with the Lobos family took up more of the narrative than it needed to and that there was probably some space that could have been freed up for more Renfield and Dracula dynamics, which is what people are doubtlessly coming to the film for (there also weren't any Larry Talbot easter eggs with them that I caught, which I feel was a lost opportunity!). While I was less averse to the Awkwafina plot than I initially thought I'd be, I also wasn't a big fan of what I felt to be a tease at a romance with her and the additional assignment of a wife and child to Renfield, as I'm not really on board with framing a guy's escape from his abusive/obsessive relationship with a man in opposition to his pure/inspiring relationships with women. I also found that some of the over the top goofiness got a little too goofy for me. I do enjoy gore, but it got a little repetitive/cartoony, and the cocaine circle honestly fell a little flat for me, even as much as I appreciate the shout out to the unsearchable depths of Wiccan tumblr. Although these are very much YMMV points.

That all being said, Cagecula gave me the gaslighting, hybrid-Dracula portrayal experience I wanted (as well as having some absolutely killer outfits), I adored all the little references to prior iterations of the story, I very much enjoyed the goofy montage showing Renfield's apartment and sweater obtaining, and the Dracula Blood ex Machina with the support group was satisfying for a film that didn't demand to be taken too seriously.

Last song: Jumalten Kaupunki - Moonsorrow. One of those songs (and albums in general) that I listen in winter (and for me it's winter already because a) I'm sort of wiccan, I celebrate Samhain which marks the beginning of winter b) we have first snow, lots of it)

Favorite color: Sea green, Nile blue, etc. - various shades of teal

Last movie/tv show: Barbie. I could watch it only in September and totally loved it.

Also felt some sudden urge to rewatch Krabat last weekend... 2009 German movie. Because of the memories of those times when it came out. This movie was mostly rated as poor by critics and viewers alike, yet I enjoyed it when it came out. But now I'd rather agree with all those people.

Oh, and last weekend I've finally watched latest Prepare to Cry! Couldn't find time since it came out, even though I love it very much...

Currently watching: nothing much. Right now I don't even watch lore videos that much... sadly.

Sweet/spicy/savoury: Savoury. Or kind of sour. I like both citrus-like smells and flavours (that's why I'm a fan of vinho verde yes) and things like sushi, some asian dishes, soy sauce. My ex used to take me to eat out to the Vietnamese restaraunt.

Not a fan of very hot stuff (like anything with jalapeno or Korean dishes).

Relationship status: Single. I wanted to have a girfriend, but now I doubt I can have even IRL friends. Sorta disappointed. I've nothing to give to others, I don't even know anymore what is it they need. Maybe I'm better off alone, at least for now.

Current obsessions: Oil painting. Suddenly. Started trying a bit, so far I'm doing basic things like color wheel, gradients, mixing colors. Planning to repaint my Elden Beast fan art with oils (already got the right oval canvas). Then we'll see...

And still Eldeng Ring lore.

Last thing you googled: Deadfly Ensemble. One day, while preparing canvas for my studies, I suddenly remembered there's a band that I enjoyed listening in my early 20s, on my goth and cabaret kick. And it was a side project of some other (quite popular) goth rock band, but now I don't remember the names... So i decided to look them all up.

Day 14 - All Downhill from Here

The skiing instructor was perky and pink . Sesshoumaru wasn’t sure what to make of her and a part of him felt dubious. Especially of those bright pink pompoms of her hat, that matched the chunky-knit muffler wrapped three times around her neck. But the steady stream of cheerful chatter was taking his mind off from that nervous and peeved part that glowered in a dark corner of his brain.  

Sesshoumaru hated learning new things. Or to be precise, he hated that awkward initial phase of learning something new; the part where he felt like a clueless, bumbling idiot. What he wanted was to excel  but alas, to get to that point some bumbling around had to be endured.  

Whatever could be said about his bubbly bubble-gum skiing instructor, she seemed to know her stuff. She’d guided him through getting the rental equipment and putting on the stiff and weird ski shoes. She’d given him an overview of the slopes. And dispensed such a wealth of tips and tricks on him that Sesshoumaru wasn’t able to remember them all.  

And now they were standing on the top of the trainer slope, which looked like an anthill compared to the other ones. Sesshoumaru was starting to get nervous again.  

"We're gonna practise the snowplough for a while," the skiing instructor told him with a bright smile. "Then we're going down all nice and easy and slow . We'll take all the time you need. And we're not going down until you're comfortable enough to try. Safety first, ok?"  

Sesshomaru nodded, and the tightness in his throat eased, his shoulders relaxed the tiniest fraction at his instructor's reassurance.  

"Great! I'll show you the snowplough now. It’s very simple."  

Sesshoumaru watched raptly as the skiing instructor demonstrated the funny-looking pose.  

"Now, your turn to try it out! Tails out, noses together. Make sure to leave a gap between your skis, though!"  

Sesshoumaru tried to manoeuvre his skis into the right position. They still felt weird on his feet.   

But his skiing instructor kept coaxing, encouraging and advising him. Gradually, his nervousness and awkwardness slipped away.  

"I'm ready now," he informed her after a while.   

"Great!" The instructor chirped. "Let's go down the hill! Remember to shift your weight to turn. And I'll be right behind you, so if you fall, I'll help you right back up."  

That comment finally elicited an answering smile from Sesshoumaru. "All right. I'll be in your care."  

What scattered crumbs of his nerves were left morphed into exhilaration as he made his way down the much too short slope. He might have been slow and his turns awkward, but the slide of the skis had been easy and smooth, the cold slap of wind in his face invigorating. At the bottom of the hill, Sesshoumaru turned to his instructor, grinning.   

"I want to do that again. And go faster."  

"That’s the spirit," she laughed. "Up we go!"  

And so, they did.   

Sesshoumaru loved every second of it, so much so that he stayed on the slope after his lesson concluded and he and his instructor parted ways.  

He was almost reluctant to part with his skis when the time finally came to return them.   The red-haired young man behind the counter accepted the skis and then slid a business card to him.  

"Was supposed to give you this," he said and winked.  

Sesshoumaru picked up the card. His eyebrow ached at the neat print of his ski instructor's name. Flipping the card over, he saw a handwritten phone number. And there, just underneath it, there was an intriguing addition in a looping scrawl. 

"If you need instruction for the after-ski portion of the whole skiing experience, let me know. XO -Kagome" 

Sesshoumaru grinned, thanked the young redhead, and pulled out his phone.

Okay I admit I might possibly be the first and so far only person to do this since I only came up with one fairly recently (in a post that kind of flopped hard) but honestly it kind of tracks and does open up fan fix possibilities: both belong to Warner-backed virtual bands, both are guitarists, and both are neo-pagan to a degree (Wiccan and being into Norse mythology to an almost literally religious extent). Even if with that said there might some slight divorce shipping elements since Skwisgaar is canonically notoriously bad at commitment.

ANTHONY OLIVEIRA: I have been reading YOUNG AVENGERS since the very first week it came out! I remember in those early days thinking it was impossible that what seemed to be happening with Wiccan and Hulkling was actually happening—queer people like us just weren’t shown in comics or on TV. It was like a miracle.

could i please please rant about a fashion aesthetic that personally gives me brain damage? see i actually agree with everything you said about balletcore being about classism with people trying to look rich with no respect for the art itself but i also want to talk about the opposite side of it, COTTAGECORE. I FUCKING HATE IT.

its the exact opposite in this case because people are trying to look poor which they somehow consider as humble???? and these days its so tied with TERF shit that it makes me homicidal. "Oh look how the simple village folk were so effortlesly beautiful, the village women nothing but fairylike waifs dancing through the fields with a handwoven basket full of apples, the absolute pinacle of true femininity and grace ❤️" IF YOU SAW AN ACTUAL VILLAGE WOMAN AT WORK, YOU WOULD PUKE.

theres also that millionaire bitch on tiktok that keeps pushing tradwife shit in her village cosplay kitchen which is a whole nother topic but lets continue onto the actual outfits used for this aesthetic. first, every single color and pattern choice is fucking wrong. i have my great grandmothers clothes, i wear her headscarves, the actual village aesthetic is surprisingly mainly white with bright pop out colors done in culture specific patterns on the hems of the garments. while cottage core is muted brown, muted brown, oh look! muted green! what a fantastic variety of earth tones and creams! why not just wear a fucking potato sack while your at it?! and surprisingly they rarely if ever incorporate headscarves into the easthetic, as if there aren't multiple village cultures that all share the use of headscarves as work and celebratory garments. and none of the aesthetic clothes have patterns outside of just cableknit! its all just cream shirt, cableknit sweater, long skirt. thats it? no scarf? no sash? no embroidery patterns? no apron?! also depending on the region (and the aesthetic is heavily focused on the EU countries often the western side) where the fuck are the furs?! wolf fur hats, fox fur coat/scarf???? welted boots?! its a fucking disgrace

all that i understood from doing research on the aesthetic is that they took western EU village outfits, took every single cultural marker out of them, smashed them together, got a brownish mess like dirty paint water, seperated it into basic color tones, and made shitty clothes which they mass produced and are now selling at an outrageous price so that the rich can badly cosplay as the poor. i have way more hang ups like how cottagecore is often merged with wiccan to make up mystical terfy bullshit which is so fucking disrespectful to the actual pagans but thats outside of fashion so nvm

yeah there’s been a lot of criticism of cottagecore and the audience it markets itself to there’s definitely something weird with the way they treat femininity and the whole connection between cottagecore tradwifeisms and divine femininity which is starting to seep into radfem spaces too like . the way that a soft femininity is being weaponised to promote anticapitalism and feminine separatism but also promoting traditional gender roles and enforcing a borderline biblical femininity as the ‘right way to be a woman’ whilst actively pushing capitalism by buying into aesthetics and specified interior design to portray the illusion of humility . it all feels very not like other girls as well by rejecting and borderline condemning modern femininity esp the treatment of women who enjoy glamour and express sexuality liek its almost puritan . its pretty i like muted greens i love a safe green kicthen but aestheticism always goes beyond the clothes it’s communication and i’m not a fan of what’s being communicated through cottagecore a lot
