Oh. We lost another great comedy figure, Martin Mull.
While I'm more familiar of him through Danny Phantom as Vlad Plasmius, I did watch Sabrina The Teenage Witch, where he played the high school principal Willard Kraft.
He was also in Two and a Half Men and Arrested Development.

as “a music theorist” a lot of what i read is basically a really specific slice of sociology, which may be of interest to folks here, so: here’s my reading list for comprehensive exams (skimming / intros & conclusions for now and i’m going to try and do more of a deep dive later). starred stuff is on zee lib btw (which, if you recall, still exists but under that new format where you sign up for a personal domain link). non-starred stuff might be on there too; idk (haven’t checked yet; i have some of these in physical form from my library). this stuff is all about genre theory, popular/classical crossover, music recording/production, and economics.
*adorno - current of music
*adorno - introduction to the sociology of music
*attali - noise: the political economy of music
*benjamin - “the work of art in the age of mechanical reproduction” [a classic!]
born - rationalizing culture: ircam, boulez, and the institutionalization of the musical avant-garde
born & haworth - “from microsound to vaporwave: internet-mediated musics, online methods, and genre” [really good. plenty of old vaporwave bloggers on tumblr.edu make cameos, which is entertaining, but it’s basically about the construction of diff electronic genres around diff aesthetic values, methods of file-sharing, & community organizational properties]
brackett - categorizing sound: genre and twentieth-century popular music
burgess - the history of music production
chapman - “the one-man band and entrepreneurial selfhood in neoliberal culture”
*drott - “the end(s) of genre”
echard - psychedelic popular music
*eisenberg - the recording angel: music, records, and culture from aristotle to zappa
fabbri - “a theory of musical genres: two applications”
fellezs - birds of fire: jazz, rock, funk, and the creation of fusion
frow - genre
gjerdingen & perrott - “scanning the dial: the rapid recognition of music genres”
holt - genre in popular music
johnson - “analyzing genre in post-millennial popular music”
*kittler - discourse networks 1800/1900
*kraft - stage to studio: musicians and the sound revolution, 1890-1950
kronengold - living genres in late modernity: american music of the long 1970s
moore - “neoliberalism and the musical entrepreneur” [side note. spellcheck did not recognize the term “neoliberalism,” lol??]
negus - music genres and corporate cultures
*ritchey - composing capital: classical music in the neoliberal era
robin - “balance problems: neoliberalism and new music in the american university and ensemble”
robin - industry: bang on a can and new music in the marketplace

Südengland / Cornwall 2024 - Tag 14
Ladies and Gentlemen!
Tumblr media
Ganz besonders beeindruckt hat uns allerdings der abgedunkelte Raum im Erdgeschoss, in dem der Wandteppich, mit dem etwas sperrigen Namen: Knight with the Arms of Jean de Daillon, ausgestellt ist.
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Unsere langohrigen Nachbarn beobachten unser Tun äußerst aufmerksam.
Good Night!

A Modern Great War (PT.1)
The last known appearance of any Dark Aether activity was in 1985. Nearly four decades.
So why the fuck are they back? Why now?
And why did it have to be the 141 to fix it? Only one of them believes it was real, even though they’ve all read the old reports.
Of course it was Kyle to be the one to fix it.
Why the fuck is it always me?” Kyle whispered to himself as he rummaged through the base. An Omega Group base. It was so weird. Why were they just now going through it?
He just wanted to go home. Alex was worried about him going alone, he was waiting, likely impatiently, for him to come back. To be fair, he was worried too. He knew why he was sent alone, though. It made sense. Alex still fought Price and Norris about it. But only he believed that everything in Project Aether was real. He was sure that it was the reason. And it was a good reason.
He just took all the old documents from… William Peck, he guessed, though the name was redacted.
He thought this was it. He could call in exfil, go home, and cuddle with Alex and Rose.
ETA was thirty minutes.
He could walk around a bit more.
He found a… bunker-type thing?
He took a look. And there wasn’t much, but… God, what was that noise? It sounded like some sort of whisper, and it got closer as he went through the near pitch-black halls.
He found what it was.
A glowing blue Horn. He knew what it was. He damn well what that was.
So why was it calling out to him?
He didn’t know what to do. He wanted to. But why?
He did it.
He touched it.
He passed out, but judging by the clock on the wall, it was only a few minutes.
He rubbed his eyes as he sat up, almost waiting…
“That was very bold of you, mortal.”
He gasped as he heard that.
“I-I fucking knew it…” He whispered, a small chuckle leaving his lips.
“Knew that we were real?”
“Yeah… The others didn’t believe it. Well, I was managing to get Alex on board, but… Holy shit.”
He stood, looking around the room. He knew it was in his head, but… he almost didn’t believe it.
“Who am I, then?”
He smiled, “Norticus The Conqueror. One of the Elder Gods. But… I thought the Dark Aether was destroyed?”
“It was. But, recent events that no one had any control over has had it trying to rebuild itself. It has a… Mind of it’s own, if that’s the right wording. Kortifex has been trying to get back in charge.”
“You can’t let that happen- it’ll just be the ‘40s repeating itself.”
“You’ve really done your research. Kraft would be impressed. But, no. We can’t let that happen. But we need eyes in the real world to help.”
“Why me?”
“Your special, Sergeant. We looked through the others in your task force. Only you have… What should I call it?... A special energy. We couldn’t even identify what it was. But only you have it. And it seems important. And you’re the only one that believes we were real. The stars aligned.”
He was even more shocked. But he was going to do it.
“What do you need me to do?”
“Take my Artifact. You’ll need it. And we’ll need to start finding the others.”
“Where are they?”
“I’m not entirely sure. But I can find them. And you’ll have to keep the Artifacts.”
“Okay…” He carefully took the Horn, and hid it in his bag. How he’d fully hide it from the others, he wasn’t sure yet.
“You are not to tell a single soul about this.”
“Understood.”
“Good.”
He heard Nikolai’s chopper getting closer, and he went to the roof.
“Stay quiet. I don’t want a random voice in my head telling me stuff while I’m around people. I’ll probably look insane.”
“Understood.”
Once he got on the chopper, he realized that it was empty… Save for Alex, who jumped up, hugged him, and frantically checked him for injuries, even though he said he was fine about five times.
“Let’s get you home, darlin’. Rose is getting impatient.”
He was still a little off. But he couldn’t say it.
He stuck around Alex while he was writing his mission report, and he finally got to his room, and saw Rose in his bed, nice and curled up.
“Your lover seems to be a man of touch, not words.”
He jumped, cursing under his breath. But he smiled.
“Very much so. I love it.”
“Really?”
"Yeah. He just… Loves having me close to him.”
“Seems possessive.”
“There’s a difference between protective and possessive. He’s protective. For good reason, considering the start of our relationship. To be honest, I love the feeling of… being wanted.”
“As long as he doesn’t get in the way.”
“Deal with it. He’s my boyfriend. I’ll choose him.”
“Understood. You should rest, Sergeant. You may need to… sneak out, if I find the others.”
“Okay… But I’ll tell you now: I won’t betray my family. If I need to make a choice, I’ll choose them over you.”
“We’ll deal with it. Rest.”
He laid in bed, and tried to sleep. But it was hard.
Until Norticus just knocked him out…

For day 9 enjoy a little fluffy Will and Jay brother bonding as kids time! I was inspired from watching people at the park near my house feeding the ducks with bread and wondering what if they took it from their parents secretly!
Will is 10 in this and Jay is 8 in this! Enjoy:)
Title: Saturday mornings
"shhh, you'll wake dad" angry whispered Will, as he pushed little brother Jay out of the way and shut the kitchen cabinet himself.
"Sorry" whispered Jay back.
It was early Saturday morning and the boys decided that instead of watching cartoons like they did every Saturday that they were going to go feed the ducks at the lagoon in the next neighborhood over.
"Won't mom get mad we took her sandwich bread" asked Jay as the two biked away from 47th street and towards 37th street and towards the bus they would need.
Shrugging his shoulders Will replied, "as long as we don't use all the bread, we can claim we were really hungry and made pb&j sandwiches after school on Friday."
That sounded like a solid albi to young Jay so he backed off his questions.
Hopping off the bus, the boys headed straight for the lagoon and nature trail. Their mom had taken them here plenty of times and occasionally Jay's little league soccer team would have a game out here, so they were rather familiar with the layout of the park.
"Ooh, look at the goose!" Exclaimed Jay while fishing out a piece of bread out of the bag his brother held.
The boys spent the next 45 minutes feeding the geese and squirrels, and looking at the birds flying around the nature trail.
"Hand me a piece, I want to feed the little guy!" Stated Jay while honing in on a squirrel near the tennis courts.
"Last one, then we should head back, it's already 9" replied Will while holding the bread bag out for Jay to take.
Sticking his hand in, Jay realized just how far his hand had to go to reach a piece, "uh oh" he stated when he looked down and realized more than half the loaf was gone!
"Uh, it's okay, mom probably won't notice! I've been making our lunches the past 2 weeks anyway" reassured Will.
"I think she goes on another grocery run this week anyway" added Jay.
The boys started their trip home while adding to the story of hopeful reassurance that they wouldn't get in trouble for using up all the bread!
Several hours later, Mary Halstead decided that she was going to make her sons' their favorite lunch....grilled cheese and Kraft Mac and cheese, it was the one meal she knew picky eater Jay would eat and big brother Will never complained about it.
Opening the kitchen cabinet that housed the bread, she noticed 75% of the loaf was gone.....she had just gone grocery shopping on Thursday night right after she got paid.
"Jay Alexander! William Patrick!" She shouted
In the living room, the boys turned from watching TV to look at each other and they muttered,
"shit"
