Top ten most powerful members of the Batfam
1) Bat-mite
A fifth-dimensional entity, Batmite possesses near unlimited reality warping powers. His name isn't actually Bat-mite; he's just a giant Batman fan.
2) Claire Clover (Gotham Girl)
Claire can use her own life force to gain powers. She could maintain Superman level powers for two years, or God-like powers for two hours. However, she can not gain back the life she spends to power herself, and every expenditure of her abilities push her closer to death.
3) Charlie Gage-Radcliffe (Misfit)
Charlie's powers are strange, even by comic standards. Her character arc was cut short due to Flashpoint, but she was originally supposed to be the lost princess Ruby of Gemworld. She hails from an intensely powerful magical bloodline, but is complete unaware of her origins. As far as she knows, her powers manifest as minorly enhanced strength, and "Bouncing". Charlie can teleport an unlimited amount of distance, carrying an unlimited amount of weight. Any wounds she sustained will instantly heal, and it costs her no energy to do so. More interesting, however, is the fact that anything living she brings with her will instantly die.
This means that she can only be defeated by projectile weapons, as anything that makes contact with her could be teleported away, along with anything connected to it.
Interesting note: I believe Charlie, as a homo-magi, has powers she hasn't yet used. I hypothesize her teleportation is similar to Kurt Wagner's (Marvel's Nightcrawler), and she travels through a parallel dimension. She may be able to tap into and channel this energy for greater use.
4) Basil Karlo (Clayface)
Basil started off as a villain, but was made a member of the Gotham Knights in Detective Comics 2016. He is nearly unkillable, as his body is made entirely of animated clay. There is no organic material to injure. He can manipulate his form to mimic shapeshifting, but his composition will always remain the same. He is an extraordinary actor, and can combine this with his powers to fool almost anyone. He has super strength, and can split himself into multiple forms. However, he has an easily exploitable weakness in temperature. Extreme cold or extreme heat will nullify his powers, and make him brittle, and easy to subdue. Disintegration is the easiest way to kill him, and frost or heat based powers and weapons are fairly common.
Interesting note: The Martian Manhunter is incapable of reading the mind of Eel O'Brian (Plastic Man), as he is made of inorganic material. I believe that Basil has a similar resistance, as well as perhaps an interesting interaction with Charlie. As Basil's body is chemically almost identical to clay, I believe he's one of the few people Charlie could teleport.
However, it is unclear exactly how Charlie's "bouncing" kills. The only time this effect occurs is when we see Lori Zechlin (Black Alice) accidently kill someone while stealing Charlie's powers. The body of her victim exploded. It is never given whether the mind can survive, and, given Charlie's powers are magical in origin, it may not even matter.
5) Cassandra Cain (Batgirl/Orphan
Cass is completely human. However, her unique brain structure gives her the ability to interpret body language as an actual language, granting her a form of precognition. She is able to tell exactly what someone will do, before they do it, making her unbeatable in combat.
She's also the physically strongest and fastest human member of the batfamily, strong enough to punch through steel, and fast enough to dodge bullets after they've been fired. Her strength is only surpassed by Claire and Clayface, and only a Superman level Claire is faster. She ties with Dick Grayson for most gymnastic skill, as she can copy any of his moves. She has complete control over every function of her body. She can stop her heartbeat, speed her healing, and completely deaden pain.
She can perfectly copy any movement, provided the original user has anatomy close to a humans. She has no skill ceiling, and will be able to break her previous records every time. The limits to her strength, speed and skill don't exist.
Interesting note: Her body reading completely negates any form of disguise, including shape shifting. She can read non humanoids to a lesser extent, but not robots. Cass feels extreme empathy towards anybody she's reading, to the point where she will feel their pain as her own. She can read animals, but does not experience any empathy for them.
With her abilities, she can defeat everyone lower on this list combined.
Cass would be able to defeat Charlie in a fight, as the surprise and stealth factor from teleportation would be completely negated. Cass would know where Charlie would teleport before she does it, and could throw a projectile into that area as Charlie bounces into it.
Her abilities do work on Clayface, but she would require either cryo or thermal technology to beat him, giving her no real advantage. While Cass could predict a powered Claire, it doesn't help her defeat someone faster than light and strong enough to bench the earth.
6) Barbara Gordon (Oracle)
If everyone on this list was given access to maximum equipment, Barbara would rank number three. With unlimited access to every piece of technology on earth, she could very easily take over the world, or destroy it. Her photographic memory and extreme intelligence means that she has a plan for every situation, and, unlike Bruce, doesn't need to keep files. There is no opponent she can't outsmart.
However, her ranking falls due to her maximum strength being extremely conditional. Remove her from computers and she is a formidable opponent given light gear, but her paralysis makes her a sitting duck without her wheelchair. She is the fourth strongest on the list, but her fighting style is completely defensive, as Barbara lacks any way to engage a fight, and has to wait for opponent to come to her. She cannot dodge fast moving projectiles, like bullets, or move out of the way of powerful AOE attacks, like explosions, fire, electricity, sonic waves, chemical splashes or falling objects. Her extreme strength is somewhat neutralized by her extreme weakness.
Interesting note: Barbara's wheelchair changes from writer to writer, but at one point it contained a machine gun full of rubber bullets, a mechanical lift platform to go up stairs, grappling hooks, and a portable computer.
Post flashpoint, Barbara has a device in her brain that allows her to walk. However, this version is significantly less powerful, and shares very little with her pre-flashpoint counterpart.
7) Jean-Paul Valley (Azrael)
Azrael is the combined entities of Jean-Paul Valley, his suit's AI, and an actual angel. Jean-Paul himself is not entirely human, as he was created by the Order of Saint Dumas artificially, and had his genome spliced with the DNA of other animals. He has enhanced speed, strength, stamina, metabolism and intelligence.
His abilities are vastly enhanced with the Suit of Sorrows, capable of exceeding Bane. The Suit of Sorrows contains an angel, one who attempts to use the wearer as a host. The longer the suit is worn, the greater the enhancement, and the greater the loss of control. The suit is equipped with two bladed gauntlets; The Sword of Sin, and the Sword of Salvation. The first forces you to relive every bad thing you've done, and the second forces you to relive every bad thing that happened to you.
With suit enhanced strength, he's the third strongest. Without it, he falls behind to sixth. With or without his suit's speed, he comes in third.
Interesting note: With or without his suit, he is the second best fighter on this list. His blades defeat an enemy in a single touch, allowing him to defeat Basil. His superior skill would most likely allow him to get a hit off on Charlie, and his blades would incapacitate her before she could teleport him. Barbara would likely be able to hack and disable his suit, but, in straight combat, she stands no chance. As his blades are magical, there is a high probability they could harm Claire. However, she can power up to a point where she can take him down from range, and eliminate that threat. I have no idea whether they would work on Bat-mite, but Jean-Paul would have little difficulty tricking it and finding out.
8) Helena Wayne (Batman)
The Bat of a world ruled by Darksied, her rogue's gallery is composed entire of alien powerhouses. 10) Bruce Wayne (Batman)
The first person to wear the mantle of the Bat, Bruce is the third most popular comic book character to ever exist. He has the most years of training under his (utility) belt, and is a highly skilled fighter. He has almost unlimited resources to build gadgets and vehicles, which he utilizes to extreme efficiency.
However, his stats are nothing extraordinary. He manages to scrape ninth strongest member of the batfamily, but is one of the slowest.
Interesting note: Most would grade him higher due to his crippling paranoia. Bruce is famous for coming up with a inane amount of contingency plans, to defeat any opponent. However, these plans are really stupid, and would never work.
His plan to defeat the Flash (Wally West) involves shooting him with a bullet, and having Wally attempt to phase through it instead of dodging. Wally can run seventeen trillion times the speed of light, and is famously terrible at phasing. This plan would fail epically. His plan to defeat Wonder Woman (Diana) also involves shooting her. Even in iterations where Diana isn't bullet proof, it's still impossible to shoot her. Her signature thing is blocking bullets. She can do it blindfolded, and against hundreds of bullets at a time. This is just a bad plan. To defeat Martian Manhunter, he plans to set him on fire. J'onn isn't actually weak to fire, he just suffers from sever psychosomatic pyrophobia. So assuming Batman could somehow ambush a psychic so powerful he's developed precognition, he would still fail.

Bungie Weekly Update - 3/28/19
This week at Bungie, Lord Saladin is watching you.
The Iron Banner rages on. Once again, players are invited to test their mettle in Crucible combat—with Power enabled. The Iron Burden and Wolf’s Favor are new features we’ve added to mix things up, and rewards have been refreshed to offer two updated weapons and the new Iron Symmachy armor set for each class.
If you haven’t jumped in just yet, Iron Banner bounties have been updated with new objectives, and each bounty will grant a powerful reward. Some quest steps for Thorn and the Recluse also progress faster in the Iron Banner, so if you’re on the hunt for these rewards, now’s the time to grind them out!
Today, we’re focusing on change.
Destiny 2 Update 2.2.1 is on approach, and we have another round of server-side changes coming to Gambit and Gambit Prime Matchmaking to tune your experience.
Refreshing
Each Tuesday, Guardians look forward to a new set of objectives and challenges to complete in the world of Destiny 2—rotating Crucible modes, new bounties to complete, and every so often, a Curse Week in the Dreaming City.
For some time now, we’ve been encountering issues where some of our resets would catch bad streaks, preventing players from completing various Triumphs or earning their desired Titles. We’ve taken some time to address these issues and wanted to give an update on status.
Nightfalls
This week, the Corrupted is available for Forsaken owners to complete. If this is the last checkmark you need for the Dreaming City Seal, make sure you head to The Dreaming City before the weekly reset!
Moving forward, we’ll be putting effort into preventing streaks where specific Nightfalls appear multiple weeks in a row or don’t appear at all for months, and we’ll be making sure your experience tackling strikes associated with Seals isn’t feast or famine.
Ada-1 Weapon Frames
While weapon frames aren’t tied to any specific Seals, we understand that players are on the hunt for new and exciting rolls on their favorite weapons. Since Black Armory released, there have been a few streaks where Sniper Rifle or Machine Gun frames didn’t appear for many weeks in a row.
In Destiny 2 Update 2.2.1, Ada-1 will begin offering all weapon frames each week. While players will still be limited in how many different frames they may acquire per week, we are removing the weekly rotation.
As Destiny 2 continues to evolve throughout the Annual Pass and beyond, we’ll continue to deliver quality-of-life changes like the ones described above to address common feedback items. Some changes may come more quickly than others, but we’ll continue to deploy updates to provide a better player experience. Speaking of these changes, read on for a quick preview of our next update!
Destiny 2 Update 2.2.1 Preview
Tentatively planned for April 9, Destiny 2 Update 2.2.1 will bring a variety of quality-of-life changes and bug fixes. Below is a short list of topics that we commonly see in the wild. Security Update
Members of our Security Response Team spend their days swinging the banhammer against those suspected of cheating. They also inform players they they need to work on improving their network connections. This week, we have a few updates on their efforts.
Security Response Team: Our mandate is to safeguard the experience of our players against those opponents who would detract from your fun in the Destiny universe. Today, we want to talk about two different initiatives we’ve been focused on recently.
Aimbots vs Macros
It’s important to us that people with disabilities be able to use accessibility tools, which sometimes include simple automation. It’s one of the reasons why we fixed the Titan Skating macro issue in-game, instead of simply punishing people running automation tools. However, there is a clear line between macros and aimbots. Players who stray into the latter territory will find themselves no longer welcome in the Destiny universe. We’re currently in the process of banning a number of players on PC who have been detected using aimbots to unnaturally augment their skill. Defeating your opponents, whether they’re AI or other Guardians, should always be about your own skill. We’ll continue to make sure that’s the case.
Plugging In
In December, we announced that we would begin issuing warnings and restrictions to players with extremely poor network connections that lasted for a prolonged period of time. We’re happy to report that 90% of the players who received a warning have not been detected for having a poor connection again.
For people who have struggled to improve their connection after receiving a warning, we want to be clear: Stability is more important than speed. Latency and Packet Loss are the biggest concerns for Destiny, not throughput (mbps). Here are a few choice quotes from our Network Troubleshooting Guide: “While average bandwidth usage is considerably lower, Destiny may request up to 1 Mbps download and upload bandwidth. Destiny creates connections between a player's console, Bungie’s servers, and other players in a unique way. As such, network performance in other games and applications is often NOT a good indicator that the network is setup for a stable connection to Destiny. The most common sources of lag and frequent disconnects are high latency and packet loss.”
We encourage players who receive a warning or restriction due to their network connection to visit the Latency and Packet Loss section of our Network Troubleshooting Guide.
Finally: Thank you to the players who have used the Player Report features in-game and on bungie.net to help us identify opponents who are hurting your experience. While we’ll never rely on Player Reports alone to issue restrictions, it is incredibly helpful for corroborating the hard data we gather.
Time for Prime
Two weeks ago, we made some adjustments to Gambit Matchmaking to help even the playing field. To give a refresh of what the change was and why it was made, here’s some context from a previous edition of ‘This Week at Bungie’:
Gambit is a team-based activity. As such, players who are in a pre-made fireteam have a communication advantage. To offset that advantage, we've raised the internal skill rating of pre-made fireteams to pull in higher skill enemies to fight against. With this change, even as a solo player, you'll still have a chance. Plus, your other matched fireteam mates should be higher skilled as well.
After modifying normal Gambit settings to try to create fairer matches, we re-evaluated the settings and have further tweaks to try to get them even fairer. We’ve also now had a chance to collect data on Gambit Prime and are applying these changes to Gambit Prime matchmaking to take advantage of our findings. The changes to Gambit Prime matchmaking are live now. If you encounter any issues, please report your experience to the #Help forum on bungie.net.

Saladin’s Pride
This week, we kicked off the first Iron Banner for Season of the Drifter. Unlike other activities, which may require Destiny 2: Forsaken or Annual Pass ownership, Iron Banner is available to all Guardians in Destiny 2 who wish to test their mettle.
Last week, we highlighted some key differences in this season’s Iron Banner experience. For players joining us in progress, we’ve got a convenient summary below.
Changes in Season of the Drifter:
Iron Burden: This consumable reduces a player’s Power by 100 in Iron Banner and is available for purchase from Lord Saladin.
Wolf’s Favor: This consumable increases a player’s Power by 100 (to a player’s cap) in Iron Banner and can be earned by daily and weekly challenges.
Wizened Rebuke: This curated and Masterworked Fusion Rifle is unlocked by defeating 500 enemies in Iron Banner while under the effect of Iron Burden before Season of the Drifter ends.
Weight of Guilt: This emblem is unlocked by completing all weekly bounties during an Iron Banner event. Weight of Guilt tracks higher-Power opponents defeated while under the effects of Iron Burden.
Bounties: All Iron Banner bounties will now grant a powerful reward upon completion as well as unlock direct-purchase rewards from Lord Saladin.
We are also tracking two issues that players may encounter in Iron Banner:
The Weight of Guilt Emblem: We're aware of an issue where the cost to purchase The Weight of Guilt emblem is not exposed to players after they unlock it for purchase from Lord Saladin.
This emblem costs 40 Iron Banner tokens once players have unlocked it for purchase by completing all of Lord Saladin's Iron Banner bounties during a single event.
"Iron Ruby" Iron Banner Shader: We're investigating an issue where players can't attain this shader.

Delayed Invitations
In recent weeks, Xûr has begun offering Annual Pass players his Invitations of the Nine. These invitations are short-term pursuits that reward players with powerful gear and lore experiences.
Players who accept these invitations should be aware that they must be completed by the following weekly reset in order for Xûr to offer a new invitation in his next visit. Players who complete an Invitation of the Nine after the weekly reset will need to wait another week to become eligible for a new invitation from Xûr.
Prime Time
This week, Gambit Prime features its final map before all maps enter the Gambit Prime playlist rotation. Players who want to get their uninterrupted fill of Emerald Coast have the rest of this week to do so, until the weekly reset next Tuesday. If, at that time, you and your clanmates decide to relive the glory days of uninterrupted gameplay on your favorite map, we’ve got good news! Next Tuesday (4/2), Gambit Prime unlocks in Gambit Private Matches for Annual Pass players. There, players can choose their favorite Gambit Prime setup, including map, encounter variants, high value target spawn availability, and whether or not Power is enabled during invasions.

The crutch tips also come with an app where patients can track their weight-bearing progress. With this data, healthcare providers can advise the patient on the best rehabilitation plan so that they heal quickly and correctly. They can also send new rehab advice straight to the patient through the mobile app.
CEO Ilya Popov, the co-founder of ComeBack Mobility, was inspired to create this tool after going through his own injury. He raised the seed round of funding himself during the COVID-19 lockdown and recently gave an interview about maintaining a medical device startup during wartime.

  Proov’s rapid response progesterone test strips were invented by Dr. Amy Beckley after she experienced three years of infertility, two rounds of IVF, and seven pregnancy losses. She found out her fertility issues were caused by low progesterone and created these test strips to help other women detect their progesterone levels so they could avoid the same issues and long diagnosis process she went through.
The FDA has authorized these tests, which provide women with information that would otherwise be available only through a blood test at their doctor's office. As of December 2021, the FemTech company had raised $9.7 million in Series A funding, according to Crunchbase.

  Senzo, a UK-based startup, is developing an amplified lateral flow (ALF) rapid antigen self-test for COVID-19, which the company says it has the same accuracy as PCR tests. In a recent blinded 3rd-party study, the tests were shown to have 100% accuracy. Senzo also has plans to apply the ALF system to other testing requirements in the future, so people around the world can get accuracy previously only found in laboratories.

AI often sounds like some far-off science fiction concept, but it’s actually behind a lot of things you encounter in your daily life. Here’s the rundown: we train a software system with lots of examples so that it can pick up on patterns. Rather than telling the computer that all spam emails contain the phrase “new weight loss trick!,” you train it on millions of examples of spam, making small corrections until it can pick out the pattern on its own. This ability to learn patterns, called machine learning, makes your life easier in many ways—read on for 13 of them!

Dispelling the Myth That IIFYM is Poor for Your Overall Health

Strict Meal Plan Dieter: “IIFYM diet isn’t as good as a meal plan.”

Are you sick and tired of hearing that an IIFYM diet is poor for your overall health?
I know we are.
You usually tend to see this from those that look at nutrition with a black and white mindset (1).
Or
From those that favor and have an emotional attachment to another nutrition concept such as:
Intermittent Fasting
Clean eating
Paleo
Keto diet
Eating cardboard diet 😉
What’s frustrating about this is nutrition shouldn’t be looked at as good or bad or right or wrong or one diet is “better” or “best.”
The way nutrition should be looked at is what we call “conceptual integration.”
Taking concepts from different diets and integrating them together to fit your lifestyle, goals, preferences, and ultimately increasing adherence and consistency which thus produces results.
But, this topic of “conceptual integration” can be a topic for another article.
In this article, we will discuss dispelling the myth of IIFYM is poor for your overall health, the 80/20 and 90/10 approach within an IIFYM diet, and practical applications you can apply immediately.

  Dispelling the Myth of IIFYM is Poor for your Overall Health
IIFYM gets a lot of flack outside the IIFYM community.
The main reason being those that have never experimented with it tends to jump to conclusion and think that an IIFYM diet can be predominated by junk food so long as you hit your macronutrient targets.
This is far from the truth.
What’s funny is, long before the IIFYM movement, researchers noted in a 1991 publication that dieting bodybuilders used very limited menus when preparing for bodybuilding competitions and suggested instead that bodybuilders should use the Exchange System (which is very similar as counting macros) for food selection to add variety without altering the distribution of macronutrients (2).
Consume at least 80% of your calories from whole, single item food ingredients and consume at least 2-3 servings of fruits and vegetables, each, per day
A new study out of the International Journal of Sport Nutrition and Exercise Metabolism showed that a macronutrient-based approach to dieting results in at least equal dietary adequacy compared to a traditional, “strict” meal plan based approach (3).
This was a cool study because they had subjects (both male and female competitive bodybuilders) take an online survey and they were grouped by two dietary approaches:
A) Strict meal plan (following a strict meal plan without any food substitutions)
B) Macronutrient based (self-selected foods so long as they hit their macronutrient targets)
Here’s what the results found:
– Males consumed less than the recommended daily allowance (RDA) or adequate intake (AI) of vitamins A, D, E, potassium, and fiber
– There was no significant difference between the males following a strict meal plan or a macronutrient based diet
– Females following the macronutrient based diet consumed more protein, sodium, and vitamins E and K, fiber, folic acid, magnesium, and iron
– A macronutrient or IIFYM diet approach will not result in micronutrient inadequacies to any greater degree than a traditional strict meal plan approach
– Remember in women, it might even be a better approach to follow an IIFYM diet
This study is a great piece of a large puzzle that lends credence to showing that an IIFYM diet approach is not poor for your overall health.
  The 80/20 and 90/10 Approach Within an IIFYM Diet
Now that we have the myth of an IIFYM diet isn’t good for your overall health dispelled, that doesn’t mean that an IIFYM diet approach should be abused.
We see time and time again people posting pictures on Instagram of their ice cream, pop tarts, donuts, what have you.
It’s immature and misleading to do this
This is what gives IIFYM a bad rep
If you really are predominating your IIFYM diet with highly palatable and refined food sources, you are doing yourself and your health a dis-service
Now, if you aren’t doing this, enter the 80/20 and 90/10 approach within an IIFYM diet.
This can also be looked at as “daily linear allotment of indulgence foods rule” where 10-20% of your calories can come from indulgence foods each day.
Here’s a real-world example:
You have 2,000 calories to work with for the day
You decide to use 20% of the calories (2,000 x .20 = 400 calories) towards non-traditional foods, “dirty foods,” whatever you want to call it
That means that 1600 of your calories should be predominated by whole and minimally refined food sources Once you meet your daily protein goal and fiber goal, the remainder 400 calories can come from semi-junk to junk food
Basically, discretionary calories comprise the margin of leftover calories that can be used flexibly once essential nutrient needs are met.
Still skeptical of a daily linear allotment of indulgence foods rule?
The current Dietary Reference Intakes (DRI) report by Food and Nutrition Board of the Institute of Medicine lists the upper limit of added sugars as 25% of total calories (4).
Moreover, a review by Gibson and colleagues found that 20% of total calories from added sugars is roughly the maximum amount that won’t adversely dilute the diet’s concentration of essential micronutrition (5).
Both of these figures are in reference to refined, extrinsic sugars, not naturally occurring sugars within whole foods like fruit or milk.
Discretionary Calories
Finally, the USDA has attempted to teach moderation with their concept of the discretionary calorie allotment, defined as follows (6):
“The difference between total energy requirements and the energy consumed to meet recommended nutrient intakes.”
Basically, discretionary calories comprise the margin of leftover calories that can be used flexibly once essential nutrient needs are met.
Coincidentally, the USDA’s discretionary calorie allotment averages at approximately 10-20% of total calories (7).
Take note that discretionary calories are not just confined to added sugars. Any food or beverage is fair game. The USDA’s system is still far from perfect since it includes naturally-occurring fats in certain foods as part of the discretionary calorie allotment. This is an obvious holdover from the fat-phobic era that the USDA clings to, despite substantial evidence to the contrary (8).
We have had a ton of success with ourselves and clients with the 80/20 and 90/10 rules. We highly recommend using this tool within your IIFYM diet.
Practical Applications
A macronutrient or IIFYM diet approach will not result in micronutrient inadequacies to any greater degree than a traditional strict meal plan approach
When implementing a macronutrient or IIFYM diet approach, remember to provide 5-10g ranges for each macronutrient, and allow for a fallback strategy if a target is missed, such as hitting a minimum protein target and 100 kcal energy intake range
A regular dose multivitamin for men and women is good insurance to have in your IIFYM diet
Consume at least 80% of your calories from whole, single item food ingredients and consume at least 2-3 servings of fruits and vegetables, each, per day
Utilize the 80/20 and 90/10 rule within an IIFYM diet. We recommend if you are in the offseason or maintenance phase, you can be a bit looser and flexible, using the 80/20 rule. Yet, if you are in a dieting phase or contest prep, then the 90/10 rule will be a better option as you have a finer line to walk within calories

Now that we have dispelled the myth of IIFYM isn’t good for your overall health, we want you to remember that IIFYM diet approach is such an amazing and awesome concept within nutrition, so don’t abuse it.
Utilize the 80/20 and 90/10 tool within IIFYM so that you can enjoy your diet, tailoring it around your preferences, and lifestyle.

Omri, how does Vi improve on earphones and trackers during workouts, in your view, and what differentiates it from competitors?

How does that market compare with boutique fitness classes in studios or even customized workouts like Peleton—or does Vi appeal to a different kind of fitness buff?

Through Vi, we have designed a gated experience to help users along the way to help achieve their health and fitness goals—and beyond.

How does Vi provide real-time coaching based on a user’s fitness data?
The inner ear is by far the most rich and valuable area we could think of for tracking data for two main reasons: first you have an almost invasive and incredible accurate way to measure your biometrics (heart rate heart rate variability, saturation, motion, skin temp and more) and second, you can deliver an intimate hand/eyes free voice interaction in your ear, without the need to touch or look at a screen.
The term “hearables” (i.e. inner ear computers) is becoming more and more popular, and Vi is one of the first pioneers to truly deliver a hearable that goes beyond just being a cool gadget.
What was the biggest challenge in creating Vi and what are the challenges in scaling it? 
Given the fact Vi is a first of it kind AI voice interaction experience, the biggest challenge in creating Vi was the need to build a fully smooth “out of the box” experience, meaning we wanted to reduce the level of friction to just unbox the device, get a first introduction with Vi and start working out 3 minutes after.
In order to do so, we needed to develop a fully synchronized system (hardware, sounds, voice recognition, content, 3rd party audio sources integration, machine intelligence tools and more), all resulting into a seamless and compelling experience, without the need to purchase or integrate any other product or service.
The biggest challenges in scaling Vi? Probably people’s natural need for multiple choices in terms of both the audio from factor to different pricing tiers and more. After successfully introducing to the world this type of new concept, we are now ready to focus on creating more choices and ways for people to meet Vi and experience her.
What is on the horizon for the hearable market and for the Vi brand in particular?
As mentioned, the inner ear is by far the most exciting place to deliver people an immersive, personalized and effective workout experience. Another critical factor is the emerging trend of scientifically utilizing different music styles and pace to specific physical and mental training. It’s a free app, but watch out for the in-app purchases for additional workouts and routines.

Live a healthier, more active life with Fitbit, the world’s leading app for tracking all-day activity, workouts, sleep and more.
Use this fitness app for iPhone on its own to track basic activity and runs on your phone, or connect with one of Fitbit’s many activity trackers and the Aria Wi-Fi Smart Scale to get a complete picture of your health—including steps, distance, calories burned, sleep, weight, and more.
Couch to 5K
This low-cost app is part of a larger Couch to 5K campaign that aims to help people ease into the routine of regular running. It promises to train you up over nine weeks to be ready for a 5-kilometre race.
It has a clever coaching feature that talks to you during your workouts to help you train. The app is able to record your runs using iPhone’s on-board GPS capabilities, plus pipe in your chosen music while you’re out. It also is compatible with Apple Watch for the ultimate running companion info.
Activity Tracker
This is an app for those who don’t want to use Apple’s built-in health options while also wanting to save some battery life. Utilising the updated processors in the iPhone 5s and later, ActivityTracker tracks your steps, distance, calorie burn, active time spent and even stairs climbed all on the app on your iPhone.

No more – it’s all about the app now. It’s not unique to the market, but it has excellent app integration with Spotify and social media channels. It also links up to your Apple Watch. So strap on those Nikes and get outside.
Yoga Studio
If you like your exercise a little slower paced (but no less taxing!) you can save an awful lot of money on yoga classes by getting this app. It is excellent, and will take you through 65 video-led classes at a range of difficulties to get you flexing in no time.
It’s a cheap and easy way to get started – you could always get up to an above average shape at home on your own before signing up to a class if you’re nervous of taking the plunge.
Carrot Fit
Carrot is an AI construct that threatens, inspires, ridicules, and bribes you — whatever it takes — to get you moving. It’s a wonderful motivator that features a “7 minutes in hell” workout that will require you to do 30 seconds of 12 punishing exercises, and will berate you if you don’t.
Argus
Argus is a neat all-in-one activity tracker that monitors your sleep, heart rate, calories, and more. The app offers challenges to overcome, as well as the option to build your own workout plan. You can even add food you eat by scanning the barcode on the label to track your calories.
Lose it!

If you’re looking for a personal trainer, this app will automatically show you all nearby trainers on a map. You can find out about their experience, training style, certifications, going rates, and more. There are user ratings for some trainers, too, and photos of past clients.
You can request and book times through the app and have one-on-one interactions. If you’re a trainer, you can also create six-day training and nutrition plans for your clients, and send them from directly within the app. You also have access to a calendar with appointments and reminders for training sessions.
Fitstar Personal Trainer
This app creates a custom workout based on your fitness level. It learns from you as you use it. You choose workouts, and then you tell the app whether the exercises were too easy or too tough for you.
The information is used to create a workout routine that fits your level. It will also track your overall fitness, as it’s compatible with the Health app, Fitbit, MyFitnessPal, and Strava. The freemium app is also compatible with Apple Watch, though some features require a subscription to use. Sadly, the latter will run you anywhere between $8 and $40 annually.
Weight Watchers
Weight Watchers has an official app that promises to help you in your journey to a healthier lifestyle, and helps you track and share your weight loss progress with your friends. Since the Weight Watchers program is about tracking points, this app also makes it easy to keep track of your food intake, since everything you eat has a point value.
The free app is compatible with the Apple Watch, too, but you’ll need to subscribe to Weight Watchers Online if you want to make the most of it.
Spring Running Music
Music is a powerful workout companion. Spring detects your steps-per-minute and sets a musical beat to it. All you have to do is start moving, and the app will match the music to your rhythm via its 50+ playlists and stations. The app tracks your runs and supports the Apple Watch.
Strava Running and Cycling

Map My Run
The app accurately tracks distance, pace, and gives a robust workout summary that you can save and share. The app also counts calories burned and charts your elevation profile. The best part: You can control music and incoming calls while in the app.
Runtastic
Doctors recommend at least 30 minutes of exercise every day. This makes Runtastic the perfect app for those who like listening to audio books or podcasts while exercising. “Story Running” allows you to download stories for $1, and each track is about 40 minutes in length, making it perfectly suited for your running needs.

Salute the Desk
You don’t always have the space to practice yoga, but with Salute the Desk, you can partake in yoga sessions anywhere.
This app has four main screens — the Sit Tall screen to improve your posture, the Salute the Desk screen which guides you through various stretches, the Zone In screen where you can choose stretches to target a specific body area, and a Guided Relaxation screen that’s intended relieve stress. Strong Lifts 5X5 is one of the best ways to gain muscle and lose fat, but is probably too intense for inexperienced lifters. The app coaches you through three 45 minute workouts a week, focusing on the largest muscles in your body for optimal effect.
PumpNLog
PumpNLog is easy to use. The app is a simple log for detailing your progress in the gym. You can create custom workouts and exercises, log photos, and enable notifications of your achievements and record-setting days.
Strong
Here’s another aesthetically-pleasing workout tracking app that lets you easily enter information about your workout session. Hitting certain milestones unlocks achievements, and the app lets you add your own routines to your workouts. It also has a range of cardio exercises, but the app’s primary focus is on progressive barbell routines, such as Starting Strength or Stronglifts 5X5.
Jefit Workout
Designed for bodybuilders, Jefit keeps track of all your reps, sets, and the weight you’re lifting, Jefit provides a number of different workout routines designed to target specific muscle groups, and allows you to design custom workouts.
Sleep Cycle Alarm Clock
Set your phone on your mattress, and it goes to work while you’re sleeping. It provides metrics that give you a snapshot of your sleep quality and has a fantastic alarm function, the app will wake you when you are at your lightest sleep
Sleep Bug
For some, background noise is essential for a night’s sleep. The app offers a wide variety of ambient noises, ranging from busy city streets and babbling brooks, to campfires and torrential downpours, along with a pretty slick interface.
Pzizz
Pzizz creates a different soundtrack every time you use it. In theory, this helps keep the app from becoming familiar. It uses a randomization algorithm that gives it over 100 billion different sounds. Most are binaural beats and tones that help induce a state of relaxation.
Headspace
This app aims to make meditation simple, so that you can improve your focus and relieve anxiety. It starts at the foundation level, which teaches you the basics in 10 meditation exercises that are each 10-minutes long. The app tracks your progress, and there is a buddy system where you and your friends can motivate each other.
After the free Take 10 intro, there are additional packs that you can download for offline use if you subscribe, which will cost you $13 a month or $95 per year. This app is also compatible with Apple Watch.
Pacifica
This is a great app for tracking your daily moods, so you can better manage your stress and well-being. The app gives you the tools you need to break the cycle of whatever is causing you stress, and though the developers don’t promise quick results, the app is set up so that you achieve your goals one step at a time.
Here, you’ll find deep breathing exercises, positive visualizations, and meditations that are set to a slew of relaxing background sounds. A built-in health tracker also helps you make your way toward your daily health goals. The app is free to download and use, but you’ll need to pony up $5 a month, or $35 per year, for complete access.
7 Cups Anxiety, Stress & Depression Chat & Therapy
This is a great app for dealing with depression and unwanted stress. It provides 24/7 support, allowing you to chat with someone one-on-one whenever you feel like it. Therapists are available in more than 180 countries, and in one of 140 different languages.
You can choose one of these therapists, each of whom comes with their own profile, so that you know which area they specialize in. The app is free to download, but subscriptions start at $13 a month.
Relax Melodies P
If you’ve ever felt like you needed a good night’s sleep, then this app may just be the one you’ve been looking for. You can select different sounds and melodies to create your own mix, and then you can combine them with a meditation exercise to help you relax and fall asleep.
The app even gives you the ability to create alarms, so you can use it as your alarm clock. The app can even run in the background, meaning it won’t stop playing if you close it.
CycleMeter
The best bicycle-ride tracking app I’ve tested is Cyclemeter by Abvio. This iOS-only app collects a wealth of data, is very accurate, contains several well-thought-out features, and appeals to fitness enthusiasts who participate in more than one sport.
Despite the name, you can use Cyclemeter to track walks, runs, and other activities. It does not include a calorie-counting component, but it is packed with data about your biking outings.
Digifit iCardio
If you want real hard stats about your workouts, accelerometers and GPS aren’t enough. You need a heart rate monitor…and an app that can access the information it collects. One option is the Digifit iCardio app for iPhone and Android (it’s called simply iCardio in Google Play).
You can pair it with any supported heart rate monitor to track your runs, bicycle rides, and other workouts. Digifit iCardio records heart rate, of course, but also distance, time, and pace.
All the components needed to track heart rate can add up, so plan to spend somewhere in the $50 to $100 range to get full use of this app. If you’re in the market for a heart rate monitor, I recommend the MIO Link$78.80 at Amazon wristband.
Endomondo
Endomondo tracks your runs, bike rides, and other outdoor activities with good accuracy and a simple interface. Its training plans and coaching features, which are limited to Premium subscribers, definitely improve the Endomondo experience.
FIT Radio
FIT Radio is a music-streaming app that specializes in DJ-created mixes that maintain a consistent beat. You can browse mixes by genre, DJ, or type of workout, such as Spin, Zumba, or yoga.
If you like exploring new music and never want to think about putting together a workout mix on your own, FIT Radio is a great fitness app to try. FIT Radio is free to use, but with the free level, you get only one genre of music (the “FIT Radio Free” genre) and only a few mixes.
A premium membership gets you more than 25 genres and stations, access to more mixes, unlimited skips, track list information, the ability to save favorites, DJ profiles, and no ads. Premium membership costs $3.99 per month, $27.99 for the year, or $79.99 for a lifetime.
My Asics Run Training
The My Asics app by sneaker company Asics helps you create a training plan for running a race. Whether you’re on route to your first 3K or your fifth marathon, there’s a great deal of value in getting a race-training schedule for free. It’s usually a premium feature in other run-tracking apps.
My Asics isn’t the best at tracking runs, but it gets the job done. The reason to use it is for the training schedules, as well as the customizations that come with it. If you can use the app to track your miles and pace and do well, then it will offer to push you harder in your program. If it realizes you’re a beginner with a long way to go, your plan will adjust to stay within your reach.
Pact
Pact, formerly known as Gympact, is an app that you use to wager money on whether you’ll go to the gym or complete a workout. The app verifies if you’ve hit your goals by making sure you check in to the venues where you said you’d pump some iron.
If you reach or exceed your goals, you earn cash. If you don’t, you have to pay up. The pot is communal, and there are a lot of slackers out there pouring money into it.
Pear Personal Coach
The Pear Personal Coach app talks you through runs, at-home workouts, yoga routines, and even training programs for running races. Real human voices make the audio part of the experience excellent. The app is free, but in-app purchases can add up. The Android version is called Pear Interactive Coach.
Runtastic Six Pack Abs
The Runtastic Six Pack Abs app will leave your midsection muscles burning for days—or simply tighten that tummy, depending on the difficulty level you choose. It’s a solid coaching app that targets abs through a wide variety of exercise moves.
A human voice (available in several languages) counts through your sets and reps, while a video of an avatar shows you the correct form for each exercise. Some of the training programs are weeks long, and there’s plenty of variety along the way.
Sworkit
Sworkit coaches you through workout routines that are designed to meet your goals, whether it’s to improve your cardio health, become more flexible, increase strength, and so forth. Within sections, you can choose to work on certain parts of your body, too, such as doing a strength workout that focuses on your core.
One extra feature I like is that Sworkit’s includes music options from Spotify, so you can stream a premade workout mix. Paying for a Premium account unlocks even more workouts.
Touchfit: GSP
One of the most fun and challenging workout apps I’ve tested is Touchfit: GSP. The GSP stands for Georges St-Pierre, your workout coach and MMA World Champion. He created a number of muscle-boosting routines that he’ll coach you through while you use his app.
First you complete a test workout, in which you rate different exercises as easy, tough, impossible, or “need to learn.” Your answers from that and subsequent workouts inform the app going forward about your difficulty level.
The more you exercise, the better the customizations become. You’re always challenged without being asked to go beyond your capabilities. Touchfit is similar to FitStar, but St-Pierre’s strict style is very different from Gonzalez’s upbeat nature.
Vida Health Coach
Need a professional health coach to help you meet your fitness goals? For $15 per week, Vida Health Coach gives you in-app access to a personal coach who works with you one-on-one no matter what your health or fitness objectives are.
Once a week, you can talk to your coach by phone or video conference, too, to get real advice. The coaches have a range of certifications and specializations, so if you have, say, gestational diabetes, you’ll be able to work with someone who understands your special needs.
Blogilates
We first fell in love with Cassey Ho while watching her Blogilates videos on YouTube. This app takes things to the next level—you get access to all of her videos, plus an online forum and monthly workout calendar.
Motion Traxx
Listening to music can be the perfect way to add extra oomph to your workout, but crafting the perfect playlist is tricky. That’s where Motion Traxx comes in. The app combines coaching from world-class trainers with music designed to set the perfect intensity for every phase of your workout.
Yonder
Think of this like Yelp for the outdoor enthusiast. Enter your location and find dozens of suggestions for hiking, biking, kayaking, and skiing with reviews and tips from fellow outdoorsmen and women.
Yoga Wake Up
What better way to ease into the day than with a quick morning yoga flow? This app delivers a 10-minute sequence at your designated wake-up time. Each sequence is a little different. Some focus more on meditation, while others hone in on holding poses and setting intentions. Yoga every damn day just got a whole lot easier.
Freeletics
Looking for bodyweight workouts? Freeletics has more than 900 that last anywhere from 10 to 30 minutes. Whether you choose to work out in the kitchen, on the subway, or in your office, you can rely on Freeletics to deliver a great workout for your fitness level.
Fooducate
Foodcuate makes grocery shopping surprisingly fun. Open the app, scan barcodes, and get a quick read on how healthy each item is. It also tracks sleep, mood, and hunger levels. Then Fooducate analyzes all of the information and provides feedback to help you meet your health and fitness goals.
ShopWell
The field of calorie-counting apps is heavily saturated, but ShopWell still manages to stand out. The app is all about personalization.
Enter in your height, weight, age, and allergies, and then it scores every food you can think of on how healthy it is for you—the closer to 100, the better. And it even makes individual recommendations for similar, healthier products to eat instead.
SideChef
So you’re totally game to try out new recipes, but fiddling with your phone to follow the directions while your hands are sticky is a huge pain. That’s where SideChef comes in. The app provides step-by-step voice command instructions. If it’s going too fast, you can ask SideChef to repeat directions without ever having to get your phone dirty—or worse, waterlogged.
mySugr
Most of us can’t remember what we had for lunch yesterday, but diabetics don’t have the luxury of not paying attention to their food and how it affects their blood glucose levels.
It’s very tricky to keep mental notes, and a pen and paper just doesn’t measure up to the tracking capabilities of this app. Wonder why certain days you feel crummier than others? mySugr can be your diabetes detective to determine the foods you need to cut back on
Thrive Market
Buying healthy food has never been easier and cheaper. Thrive Market is basically the Costco for natural and organic products. Pay a yearly fee ($59.95) and have access to insane deals on everything from coconut oil to kale chips. The app makes it easy to shop for groceries whenever you’ve got the time, and then Thrive sends your order right to your door.
Rise
We have the best of intentions when it comes to eating healthy, but Rise is the app that really keeps you honest. It pairs you up with a nutritionist, and every day you send them photos of the food you’ve eaten.
Based on your specific goal (losing weight, gaining strength, feeling more energized), your nutritionist will help you tweak your diet. At $14.99 per week, it’s cheaper than IRL appointments with an R.D.
Dietbet
Just like its name implies, this iPhone fitness app forces you to put your money where your mouth is and show you’re not full of hot air when it comes to your weight-loss goals.
Users enter into a challenge where they can bet they’ll lose either 4 percent of their weight in four weeks or 10 percent of their weight in six months. Progress is monitored by DietBet’s referees, and the pot is then split between everyone in your group who makes their goal weight.
Noom Coach
Dieting can be so complex. Don’t have time to check your macros (or don’t know what those are)? Time to download Noom Coach.
Unlike other calorie-counting apps, Noom uses the stoplight approach (green is good, red is not so great) to label healthy food. And you can join in on challenges with other Noomers to get even more motivated to meet your health goals.
Zova
Zova is a personal training and fitness app that houses Zara, your smart trainer that tracks and evaluates your workouts. Taking your activity into account, Zara then coaches you through walks, runs, and other workouts, pushing you to get fitter, without pushing you so hard that you die (that’s bad, mmkay?).
Zova will even kick things off by asking your your Apple Health data, which will end up helping it paint a better picture of your overall fitness, helping to better tailor workouts to your specific needs.
You can enable Siri to start workouts with Zova, and Zova will send you notifications to get moving and stop being a lazy bugger.
Fitness Buddy
If you’re new to weight-lifting or any type of strength training, Fitness Buddy is gonna be your… buddy. Recommended by Heathline features over 2,400 exercises and shows you detailed diagrams, videos, and animations to help you nail your form and perform every exercise safely and effectively.
There are over 1,000 videos to show you what to do, using all manner of equipment, like dumbbells, barbells, kettlebells, Bosu balls, and more.
You can track your workouts using the simple interface and search to find your favorite exercises or exercises for your favorite muscle group. You can also track your body weight and other metrics, like arm and thigh size.
Full Fitness
If you want to just pay for a damn app and not have to subscribe to anything, getting the full experience from day one, then go with Full Fitness.
You get it all, right off the hop: hundreds of exercises and how to do them, images and diagrams, video instructions, a calorie tracker featuring 90,000 food items, progress tracking, and much, much more. You’ll get a complete picture of your overall fitness level for $2.99.
You get iCloud support with Full Fitness, so you can save your progress and take it with you, no matter the device. The app can even track multiple users, so if you share a phone or are getting into fitness with your young kids, it’s perfect.
GoodFoodNearYou
Perfect for frequent travelers, this app recommends healthy food options based on your location, which is tracked by GPS. It targets popular casual dining restaurants, fast-food restaurants, grocery stores and convenience stores nearby.
Tap one of the suggestions and a lengthy list of healthy menu items appears, complete with calorie, fat and carb totals. Once you decide on a place, simply let the built-in map guide you to gastro-satisfaction.
Nutrition Tips
Did you know that cut melon must be thrown out after two hours? Or that the leanest beef cuts include round steaks and roasts? Or that oysters contain protein, calcium, phosphorus and iron?
This colorful app has fun factoids like these and more than 500 others to help you have a safe and healthy diet. Each tip is written on a sleek Post-it look-alike. Swipe the page or shake your device for a new tidbit.
iTreadmill
Too busy to hit the gym? Turn on this fitness app for iPhone, put it in your pocket and go about your day as it accurately tracks your steps, distance and average speed.
While most pedometers aren’t equipped to work in pockets and purses—you normally have to carry them or holster them in nerdy belt straps—this one is. You can even set the Pacer Dial, which ticks off beats to keep you marching up to speed. The counter automatically pauses when you stop and restarts when you move again.
GymGoal ABC
Learn the ABCs of weight lifting with your new gym buddy. Like its for-cost brother ($4.99), this app has 280 exercises with animations and written instructions, 52 workout routines (adjustable for four levels of expertise) and the ability for you to add your own images.
While you can’t log your daily workout routine, there are calculators for computing target heart rate, BMI, BMR and body fat percentage. Got flabby arms? Choose the body map menu, select the biceps option and you’ll be presented with more than 50 arm-toning moves.
WaterMinder
WaterMinder is sort of like MyFitnessPal in that it helps you track what you’re putting into your body. But unlike the comprehensive MyFitnessPal, WaterMinder is laser-focused on one task alone: tracking water intake. And before you squawk too loudly that MyFitnessPal can track water too, I know, but…
WaterMinder is the last of these fitness apps for iPhone and it has an awesome interface. It’s simple and fun: there’s a body that fills up with water as you add it. When you move your phone the water sloshes around. It’s a good visual indication of how close you are to your water goal.
Lark
Lark is like a little health and fitness assistant (not quite a personal trainer, but more of a coach) that helps you get a handle on your health.
Lark’s main feature is feedback: you enter in things like what you ate for the last meal and Lark tells you what’s up. Maybe it’s just me, but Lark is super positive too. It could find negative things to tell you (like you ate too much sugar today), but instead it seems to focus on positive reinforcement which is nice. It’s almost like talking to a friend.
