Can we TALK about how good YFN Spidey's outfit is as a "homemade" suit?

OH MY FUCKING GOD.

THIS IS SO GOOD.

It really takes what works with the MCU's homemade suit, and gives it SO much extra oomph.

-The t-shirt emphasizing mobility, combined with the pants.

-The googles more closely resembling MCU's main Spidey eyes.

-THE AIR TANK. THANK GOD THEY EXPLAINED THAT. I hate spidey suits that just...never have an explanation for their webbing actually working. Some suits have giant cuffs for the web fluid, others have organic webbing, and more just kind of suck (cough cough Ultimate cartoon cough cough), but the best Spidey suits, for me, are like the first two categories: Give reasonable context to how it functions.

-It also just...looks good. It doesn't try to over-emphasize the homemade part, and look like Peter walked into a Target, and got his outfit from the first rack he saw.

Another thing I notice from Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man is that it still takes events from the MCU and stick them into the show's universe. Seriously, in the latest three episodes, the Sokovia Accords were mentioned as well as the Avengers breaking up, the Civil War airport scene conflict still happened, and even Ultron was mentioned as well as Hulk's attack on Johannesburg. Not to mention Norman Osborne meeting the Parkers is similar to Tony Stark meeting them in Civil War.

This show is supposed to be in a different universe, right? Then why still have events from the MCU take place there? Not every recent animated Marvel show has to have MCU-like events. So, wouldn't it be better to adapt the actual storylines from the comics and be as accurate as possible?

Whumpril Day 8: Burnout

Fandom: Your Friendly Neighborhood Spiderman

Summary: Peter struggles with the burnout that comes with being a teenage superhero.

    Throwing his backpack onto the bed, Peter pulled the chair at his desk back and sunk into it. He sighed and used his feat to pull himself closer to the desk so he could rest his head on it. It had been almost a year since he became spiderman.

    In the beginning it was great. Getting to work with Oscorp had been a dream, even if it was by accident. The city was supportive of their new hero. Helping the people was important and Peter was glad to do it.

    School had been going well. There wasn't a class Peter didn't ace. He took pride in his grades. His education couldn't always come first but he tried to make sure that if it couldn't, it came in a close second.

    Then there was his knee hobby. When the boy found his uncle's camera, he decided to try photography. Being Spiderman gave him access to places he previously couldn't have explored. While it was a new hobby it was enjoyable and he was starting to get good at his.

    Making friends had been hard for Peter but at this new school it seemed like he had found a good group of people. While the group was smaller, he loved his friends. The people he met at Oscorp could be fun to be around. Nico and Harry had become good friends which was good.

    As time passed it felt like his job as Spiderman stopped being so simple. At first he stopped minor crimes. His first real villains had scared him at first. The scar from Scorpion reminded him of just how easy it can be to lose your life. New villains would rise and he would fight them with all that he could.

    When new villains rose Peter would spend all his time and energy defeating them. While his homework sat at home he would put his life on the line to lock up the new villain. Time after time he would web them up and return home to finish whatever papers he needed to do before going to bed.

    The cycle started to become exhausting. Between school, his internship, his friends and being a hero he never had time to rest. Peter's body was tired and achy all the time. His mind started to fog up when he couldn't sleep enough.

    Lifting his head the boy wondered if he could lay down for a while. For a moment his eyes landed on the camera he loved taking a walk with. Even if he loved photography, he never had the energy anymore. There were a few papers that would be later if he didn't do them that day. Still he got up from his chair and threw himself into his bed. Grabbing the covers he pulled himself under them.

Burnout was a nasty thing for someone so young. Peter was 15 when the condition creeped into him. It was uncomfortable for someone so driven by everything he had an interest in. For a hero burnout was a dangerous thing.

While school, friendships, and hobbies could be tossed to the side for a while, being a hero was a full time job. There was no other option. Peter had to be Spiderman, no matter how he felt. Scars could collect on his skin, blood could be pouring from his body, and he could be so tired he wouldn't be able to stand right but he would have to answer the call when a villain appeared. It felt debilitating.

There was a buzz from Peter's phone, then another one. After a moment the buzz became the theme song for The Bad Batch. He sighed and rolled over to get his phone from his bedside table. The number was Harry's

"Hello?" Peter said when he answered.

"Dude, there's a man in the park with some kinda tech. He's treating the city." That's what Peter thought Harry said anyway. Half the time his friend called him was about some person treating the city.

"I'm on the way." As quickly as his mind would let him, Peter got his suit on. Looking at his mask for a moment, he ran a finger over it. There was an unbearable weight on his shoulders as he slipped the mask on and opened his window. Maybe after this he could rest

Y'know what I just realized about the new Spider-Man animated show? It skipped Peter's journey to becoming Spider-Man. Learning how to use his powers, making his web shooters, and making his suit, not shown. Unless the later episodes show a flashback or something to see Peter's journey, however, it doesn't seem likely. You'd have to read the comics based on the show to see that journey.

It's also one of the many problems I had with MCU Spider-Man. The movies never showed how Peter became Spider-Man nor Uncle Ben before he met Tony in Civil War, even skipping the spider bite. The new show did show the bite, sure, but now it wants us to read comics on the journey instead of bothering to put it in the show.
