Movie Review: Five Nights at Freddy's
For my final movie for Spooktober, I decided to watch Five Nights at Freddy’s. I was eagerly awaiting Sunday night so I can view this film. While I’m not well-versed in the entire FNAF lore, that didn’t take away from my experience. Unfortunately, the storytelling left too much to be desired. Keeping the target audience being children in mind, seasoned FNAF fans can still find this enjoyable,…

I finally watched breaking bad (all within the past week or so while I worked, finished it and watched el camino last night) and I'm confident this isn't a new thought I'm expressing or anything but genuinely how DID an entire generation of dudes convince themselves Walter White was cool and admirable and intended to be sympathetic. I know ppl just lack media literacy sometimes but I'm still so confused
I don't think I've EVER watched a piece of media that so blatantly depicts a guy making the worst possible decisions at every turn and having his life ruined for it and not being redeemed or made sympathetic in any significant or lasting way. the kinds of justifications villains USUALLY give that make people consider them "morally grey" or "tragic" or whatever (everything I did was for my loved ones, I did what I had to to survive, once I was in this I couldn't get out, I just needed you to trust me so I could keep you safe, etc etc) is ALWAYS framed as complete self-serving bullshit when Walt says it, and one of the only shreds of personal growth he ever exhibits in the whole series is when he finally fucking admits that. every time he does something even remotely cool or drops a quotable one-liner, something terrible immediately happens that makes everything worse and makes him look like an unreasonable idiot asshole again. by the end of the series the ONLY characters they can still contrast as being morally "worse" than him are literally a bunch of bloodthirsty neonazis who kept a guy in a cage for several months. this show is practically SCREAMING at you the entire time not to admire Walt. why did every dude I knew in highschool have his face on tshirts and Facebook pfps.
I just don't get it. at least with The Dark Knight's Joker it was like, a feature-length movie and that's it. you spend a lot less time with the Joker and it has a lot less time to delve into his motivations, so there's way more room for flanderization and misinterpretation as people extrapolate the few cool/interesting/sad things they saw into a whole nuanced misunderstood guy in their heads and online. Walter White has 5 seasons' worth of 45min episodes to convince you beyond a shadow of a doubt that he is a miserable fucking loser who ruins everything he touches because of greed and selfishness. if you weren't watching it for that, what WERE you getting out of this. what DID you think this show was about. am I just missing some key piece of context from 2012 or whatever that would help me understand this

An artiste shares her experience of a theatre production, Tara, Compass Crow, which hopes to create environmental awareness in young audiences
As a little one rising up in the Potala Palace (Lhasa, Tibet), the Dalai Lama would usually run up to the roof and practice his telescope upon herds of yak being taken to market. On seeing them, he would race to a shrine room, sequester some of the choices, instruct a palace employee to purchase all the herd and liberate them. It is that this highly effective spirit of direct motion that…

had a conversation last week with a 10 year old girl about the s5 finale and i can’t stop thinking about it. she said nathalie is the best because she loves adrien enough to lie to him about his father so that he stays happy. completely convinced that emilie was resurrected at the end and shocked when i suggested otherwise. i’ve been dying to know what the children think happened and it’s so interesting

gremlyn's danganronpa: despair time x limbus company au (drdt spoilers under cut up to chapter 2!!)
i LOVE making aus with a target audience of one person (1) by blendering two of my current interests together. this truly was our despair time.
Tumblr media
everyone except mai's "sprites" are drawn based on official sprites, and they're meant to be height accurate! or, uh, a valiant attempt was made. at the very least i got to practice drawing everyone 🎉
(complete but constantly changing AU & character notes under cut: LOTS and i mean LOTS of yapping down there. spoilers up to chapter 2 and literature girl insane MV. content warning for "standard danganronpa stuff"; the hidden text in here is about the same level as drdt's hidden tumblr page quotes)
first up is a quick crash course on limbus company! that being said, i don't think i explained myself well at all, so i recommend just checking out the official website. or straight up playing it. i'm happy to answer any and all questions, though, whether here or in my limbus-centric main (@iamjustagremlin)!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and now here are the character notes. i have a Lot to say.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
one more minor thing i'm 99% sure forgot to include and am too lazy to fix: the canon sinners are each assigned a color code and a cool descriptor (it doesn't even need to be an adjective. cool factor always wins), such as "oblivion yellow", "dreamy gray", and "inferno red". my brain won't let me tackle these yet, but my first attempt for xander was "courageous crimson", and my first attempt for teruko was "cursed clover".
once again, if you've made it this far: thank you for reading! and my askbox is always open for mutual brainrotting 👉 👈
(also, if you squint at the character notes for long enough, there might be even more to read... it's not much, but it's honest work. do note that it should be about as "heavy" as drdt's hidden tumblr page quotes)

my thing with normals epilogue is that I think it comes from normal and sparrows like fundamental misunderstanding of each other. Like I think normal is unable to see sparrow as a full person past his parenting decisions, but I also think that sparrow doesn’t really understand the full extent of the effect his words had on normal and what it would’ve taken to rectify that. Like they’re both so caught up within themselves to fully understand the other and that’s so real and true to me.

I absolutely love that Ayesha’s “coming out” was her choosing not to do it the “normal” way. she is very blunt and very honest, but she also lives in her own little world that she’s built and doesn’t like sharing it with outsiders (like Amina at the beginning) and she’s intensely personal and private about her feelings. she has girlfriends, her band knows, her brother knows. she opens up to Mahmoud once he makes it clear she’s in a safe space. And I love that for her. no one can say about Ayesha that she isn’t authentic to herself!! she is a boundary setting queen!! and I think it is a mark of authenticity that the show acknowledges the emotional labor that navigating society requires as a queer person and you can choose not to take that on. especially for a show heavily about resisting tokenization and not wanting to be a diversity pawn this writing choice makes perfect sense mwah chefs kiss 💋

why you don't post harry potter quotes anymore?
hi, I love hp but on this blog nothing about/written by j. k. rowling will ever be posted again. I have my very old hp books and dvds, and sometimes I still read/watch them, but I will never buy new merch, new books versions etc. this is how I try to deal with the fact that a BIG part of my childhood was created by a person that I despise. is this the right way? i don't know. But it works for me.

can't believe a show based on a videogame (usually games adaptations are notoriously bad, which isn't the case here tho) gave me the beauty and the beast/twisted mirrors/enemies to traveling companions/ruthless antihero+optmistic but still badass heroine who takes none of his shit/age gap but make it sexy dynamic of my dreams. as much as i love maximus and i think he deserves the best writing ever because 1. he's a clever deconstruction of the aspiring Knight bro who's actually a bit of a loser and, as much as lucy, sees the world in black&white at first and then doesn't get what he thought he wanted but what he needs (or at least i hope he'll eventually get it), and 2. he's a cutie and i want an epic love story for him too, it's very funny how they tried to give us a puppy kind of romance and the tumblr girlies still fixated on the "toxic ~she bites his finger off and he cuts hers off and sews it on his hand in what we'll pretend it's a symbolic marriage rings exchange or whatever~ asshole who used to be a nice guy/good girl™ with a lot of spunk and hidden anger but unshakeable morals" kind of relationship.

If I had a nickel for every show I’ve seen that follows a strong spirited blue-eyed heroine who lost her mother at a young age to a fire that can be linked back to colonial violence and who seeks revenge for that but who is also strongly associated with water and the colour blue, who travels with her close companion who happens to be a a bald and childlike yet oddly wise individual with traits both physical and emotional that line up with association of air and the colour grey, who eventually fight and then travel with a stubborn fighter who has never lost a battle before encountering them and is associated with earth and the colour green, as well as a fourth character that represents fire and the colour red and who is a royal/noble trying desperately to ensure control over her own destiny for the sake of freedom and power and who very much acts as a narrative foil to the water/blue character, and one of the former two characters is obsessed with honor to the point point that they are willing to actively aid their enemy just so that they can personally be the one to bring them down and are also sporting one half of a whole haircut for reasons also associated with honour and humiliation, and all this takes place in either east asia or an east asian inspired setting with both plenty of nuance and entertainment value to be found, then I’d have two nickels… which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that it happened twice, right?

I’ve seen a few posts pointing out how stampede vash lacks the anger that 98 and especially trimax vash has. Which is true.
And it is important. Because vash isn’t the too morally strong or good or kind to be angry or whatever. Vash has a lot of rage about a lot of things. he chooses to be kind despite it rather than not being angry at all.
His sheer determination to not give into anger and choosing kindness over and over again is very important to who he is.
(personally I think that while tristamp vash went through a lot already too, he simply has not quite reached that point)
What I haven’t really seen are post pointing out that stampede vash, unlike 98 and trimax vash, does not cry.
Vash cries a lot. Some of it is for the comedy and because he is dramatic like that and also he isn’t above trying to get pity that way (with little success lol).
But he also cries a lot just… because. I don’t know how to explain it.
Like vash has no shame or inhibition to cry when that’s what he feels. Not gonna lie, I know trimax mostly from spoilers so far (shame on me) but especially in 98 vash cries very freely. He cries when he thinks he will have to watch that ex-mob boss or whatever being shot. Cries after killing, cries after monev kills all these people and he wants to shot him but wont. And so so many more.
Like that time he just suddenly drops his donuts and cries in the middle of the street.
Vash is friendly and sociable on a surface level but he has cut himself off from so much. Keeps so many things on the inside. Crying seems the one thing he doesn’t hold back on. Maybe his only genuine outlet for the pain.
Vash hides his scars, his pain and much more but he never hides his tears.
Vash, in 98 even says ‘is there something wrong with that?’ when the kids note that he is crying despite being an adult.
In contrast to that, stampede vash never really cries. He even states that he doesn’t deserve to.
We see him shed tears just once, at the very end when it becomes clear to him that he can’t save nai and that his brother and him have grown so far apart that he barely recognizes him anymore. He sheds silent tears for nai, for them, at what he certainly believed to be the very end.
Stampede vash is not only a lot more timid than his counterpart but seems overall more repressed and and emotionally dulled/exhausted
