Welcome To My Side
Tumblr media
Movies watched in 2024
Welcome To My Side (2024, China)
Director: Song Hao Lin
Writers: Miao Qian & Song Hao Lin
Mini-review:
Welcome To My Side is exactly what I needed after watching several heavy movies in a row: a purely fun romcom. The initial premise is silly but also surprisingly hilarious, and the gimmick never overstays its welcome, cause it's used just the right amount of times. The dramatic twist during the third act might feel a bit sudden, but there's enough foreshadowing for it to work. It certainly helps that both Yu Shi and Wang Yinglu deliver two fantastic performances, with outstanding chemistry to boot. I'm not saying this is the best romcom I've ever watched, but it came to me at the perfect time.

hello to this really wholesome tag on hot search right now. 👋🏼👋🏼👋🏼
it’s about the captain of the Chinese synchronized swimming team, Feng Yu, who will serve as flag bearer for the Chinese sports delegation at the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics. people found that she has posted about yibo a couple of times. for example praising hidden blade movie and his contemporary dance.

WYB is no stranger to athletes being fans of him — from Li Mengwen, Yang Min, Luo Tiantian and others + Su Yiming who he seems to be friends with. He really attracts that kind of energy and they recognize his persistence in being excellent at what he does. A true role model! The meaning of what it is to be an “idol” is truly seen in Bobo. He is also really effortless at this because it’s his default — he will always give his audience the best performance. 🙌🏼

I Read You Three Thousand Times
Lyrics:
wǒ xiè hòu yī dào tí
ruò yào nǐ gè bǐ yù
shì tiān yá biān de xuě wèi rǎn ní
huò wèi jiàn hóng chén de yī piàn yún
nǐ shì wǒ yī dào tí yī cháng yóu xì
wǒ shí nǐ dú nǐ
xiǎng zhān rǎn le nǐ
rèn fēng jiàn xuè rú hé hái wú xiá gān jìng
lèi tǎng guò xīn zěn huì bù lào gè bā yìn
dú bù dǒng nǐ
dú bù dǒng nà xuè kǒu liáo yá de è yì
zěn wèi tūn shì nǐ huái zhōng wēn róu tiān dì
nǐ bù shì xuě yě bù xiàng yún
huò xǔ shì yuè sè yī yú
wàn shì chén gòu yě bù néng rǎn nǐ
nǐ shì bù jiě de mí
wǒ dú sān qiān biàn nǐ
měi yī biàn wǒ dōu gēng jiā zháo mí
ruò hèn tián mǎn wǒ gǔ xuè féng xì
zhī yào hái yú fēn cùn liáng bó ài yì
dōu yòng lái dú nǐ
dú sān qiān biàn nǐ
míng zhī dào jiě bù kāi zhè yī dào mí tí
wǒ què hái rěn bù zhù dú sān qiān biàn nǐ
dú bù dǒng nǐ
dú bù dǒng nà xuè kǒu liáo yá de è yì
zěn wèi tūn shì nǐ huái zhōng wēn róu tiān dì
nǐ bù shì xuě yě bù xiàng yún
huò xǔ shì yuè sè yī yú
wàn shì chén gòu yě bù néng rǎn nǐ
jiě tuō wú qī
nǐ duì cǎo mù rén jiān shì nà me duō qíng
suǒ yǐ xiàng fēng huā xuě yuè nán fēn cùn xǔ
kě wǒ jì rán chén mí yú nǐ
biàn shǒu nǐ wēn róu tiān dì
yě shǒu zhè fēn gěi wǒ de wú qíng
wǒ dì sān qiān biàn dú nǐ
hū rán dú dào nǐ yī jù zhōng qíng

English Translation
Why do you keep looking at me?
…Because you are beautiful.
I came across a question; If I were to draw it in a metaphor,
It’s how the snow remained unstained by dirts on the edge of the sky; or how a cloud remained untainted by red dust.[1]
You are my question and you are a game to me;
I have known you, I have read you,
and I want to taint you. How can the blade remain flawless and clean even after being bathed with blood?
How can tears flow through the heart without leaving a scar?
I can’t interpret you; I can’t understand how the malicious intent of those blood-mouthed fangs [2] have yet to swallow the gentle world there being held in your arms?
You are neither like the snow, nor like the clouds; Perhaps you’re like a glimpse of the moonlight, that can’t be dyed even by eternal impurities in the world.
You are an unsolvable mystery;
I have read you three thousand times, with each and every time I do, I get even more fascinated; Even if hate deeply seeps into my bones and flesh.
As long as I still have this bit of coolness and love,
all that I used to read you, to read you for three thousand times.
I’m aware I can’t solve this puzzle, yet still I can’t help but to read you for three thousand more times!
I can’t interpret you; I can’t understand how the malicious intent of those blood-mouthed fangs have yet to swallow the gentle world there being held in your arms?
You are neither like the snow, nor like the clouds; Perhaps you’re like a glimpse of the moonlight, that can’t be dyed even by eternal impurities in the world.
There is no end to liberation, [3] You give affectionate tenderness for the humanity, even to grass and trees;
The passion that I cannot differentiate from fruitless love like that of the wind, the flowers, the snow, and the moon. [4]
Yet now because I have become addicted to you, [5] I will guard your gentle world,
And I will protect even every relentless part that you give me.
For the three thousandth times I have read you, I suddenly pause, and fall in love with your very first sentence.
——————————————
*Translator's Notes:
[1] Red dust means the mundane world.
[2] refers to the endless people trying to gain advantage of Shen Qiao
[3] can also mean “being eternally free”
[4] all these four things being said respectively one after another in one sentence.
[5] can also mean absorbed in you
Notes: The english official fifth volume cover is sooo beautiful! <3 Take a look and see how they both look so happy together, I can imagine them so much from this song too, it depicts everything 🥰💖

Guan Yu was tall, taller than any human Han Yiming had ever met. From where Han Yiming crouched on the ground, his head seemed to extend all the way up to the stairs of heaven. His boots were heavy, with a crust of mud around the soles, and beautiful, brilliant green brocade flashed through the tears and threadbare patches in his worn outer robe. The famous general’s more famous beard was contained in a black silk bag of outstanding workmanship. His face was sunburned scarlet, and his eyes burned like the sun. “Yan Wang,” he said, his sky-shaking voice thick with a country accent, “you think that just because you’re retiring soon you can pass judgements drunk and half-asleep? You shame that seat.” “I assure you, Lord Guan, I am as sober as--” “I hope that you’re drunk and half-asleep, because otherwise you’re a corrupt and self-promoting bastard who isn’t worthy of the skin on your back.”
a cameo from a friend :)

JTTW Chapter 20 Thoughts
Chapter 20 for the @journeythroughjourneytothewest Reading Group! We’re through one fifth of the story! Also CW for snakes under the cut.
Tang Sanzang repeating the Heart Sutra this much reads to me like he’s got a new hyperfixation. Which is incidentally also a vocal stress stim for him if you will.
“[D]ined on the wind and rested by the waters, who clothed themselves with the moon and cloaked themselves with the stars” quite a fancy way of saying they were out camping. Though I doubt that the flowers are gone in summer, flowers still bloom in summer merely different kinds than in spring.
“[T]here are three of us altogether.” Aren’t you forgetting someone? Say a certain white currently long-faced individual maybe?
Oh if this was a play someone should have yelled from the back “Or transformation magic!” since both of them are capable of it. Though both of them did already mention being tired from travelling, so perhaps that is why they aren’t using it more liberally. Aside of Sun Wukong not caring much about what other people think of his appearance.
Yellow Wind Ridge sounds more like it’s a mountain range instead of a singular mountain.
More animals to check out! But first something I took note of when checking the poem in the Original Chinese. When going through the animal portion of it there were a lot of characters being repeated twice, which unfortunately didn’t show at all in English. I think some of those character pairs represent the sounds the animals make since they don’t seem to have much translation into actual words, none that make sense in context anyways. That’s only a guess of mine though, I’m not entirely sure since I can only get insight from translators and this also only counts for some of them not all. For example [丫丫叉叉yā yā chā chā] which is before the deer doesn’t translate to much with Google Translate, but [盤盤曲曲pán pán qū qū] before the snake does translated to “coiled”.
Anyways the character for deer is nonspecific again, so it indeed just means a deer with antlers. Though there were definitely no antelopes mentioned, it is likely just another deer as the J. F. Jenner translation reads as well.
[紅鱗蟒Hóng lín mǎng] indeed translates to “red-scaled python” and is likely a Python Brongersmai which is native to Southeast Asia! They are short but chonky. Most variants are also called Blood Python and one is specifically called Red Blood Python!
Tumblr media
This here beauty is an albino!
Tumblr media
I don’t know which monkey could be meant here specifically as my search only came up with potential species that are not native to Asia. My best guess is that it might just be an ape with a hairless face and not actually a “white” face.
Lastly the “blue bill” mentioned in the Anthony C. Yu version does not come up in any other. It’s a little misleading as there is no bird mentioned in this bit at all. Instead it is the mountain that is being described again.
Ah yes, the way to greet people by ripping off your own skin! Well, it probably is useful to shut people up.
Tumblr media
I wonder what was named after what. Did the Yellow Wind Demon take up the name after his dwelling or did he name the place after himself?
The German translation brings up an interesting aspect regarding the Yellow Wind [黄風 huángfēng]. Yellow represents the middle, the spleen and thought! Citing Liu Yiming Yellow Wind here carries the meaning of erratic ‘windy’ thinking and unstable consciousness. In turn the Yellow Wind Monster stands for a ‘wrong’ kind of thought, so only after overcoming them can there be true inner peace.
More deer! Specific deer this time as well! One of them at least, the first one is just an unspecified deer with antlers again. The second however is a [香獐 xiāng zhāng] or indeed a Musk Deer! Though a Google search of the characters also brings up Chinese Water Deer, which given their similarities makes sense.
