#Yuko Crowley
Text
Your heart is pounding and it can't be stopped
The red queen is dead! Unfortunately, her Overblot is an even more fearsome foe.
(Twst au where Overblots are apocalyptic events)
Riddle Rosehearts was dead.
Yuko had not seen the body, but she knew this to be true.
Would there even be a body? What had Crowley once told them about Overblots? They would drain the Host of power, like a soda can that would inevitably be discarded. Does that mean that the body would be tossed aside, that maybe one day they could go back and bury the poor boy? Would it simply disappear the moment there was no more mana, nothing left of the boy except for a rampaging monster? Or would the body stay there, attached to the front of it, until it decayed naturally?
Did it even matter, anymore?
A high scream met their ears.
They didn’t stop to let themselves wonder whether they recognized the voice.
Her breathing came in short, aborted gasps. Deuce’s hand, wrapped around her own, was gripping her so tightly that it was starting to hurt. Blot hung heavy in the air, thick blobs of inky blackness threatening to choke them. Her feet stumbled over cobbled streets. Ace’s collar glinted in the red-tinted sun as he struggled to tug it over his head with a newfound fervor. The trees creaked and groaned as they were ripped out of the ground one by one by the queen on a hunt. Flames spilled from Grim’s mouth as he followed at their heels, painting the world behind them in flames in hopes of slowing it. People cried out as they were found. First in surprise, then terror, then anguish and then pain and then –.
Their little group of four stumbled through the mirror.
It was as if they had stepped into another world.
The ripping, tearing sounds they had been listening to for the better part of an hour came to a halt all at once. No one was running, no one was screaming. Their peers sent their group strange looks, all hopelessly unaware of the monster that was now in their midst.
For just a moment, their group of four lingered there, a heap of teens, breathing heavy in a way that was either just regular overexertion or the beginnings of a panic attack. So shaken by the sudden change they almost forgot what was going on in the sheer strangeness of it all.
“You guys look like you’ve seen a ghost,” a Savanaclaw second-year student commented, teasing.
“No,” Ace said, his laugh bordering on manic as it spilled from his lips. “Those are in Ramshackle, not Heartslabyul, idiot!”
Yuko wanted to join him. Laughing seemed like much more fun than whatever it was she was doing, planning and trying to figure out a way to defeat a monster that was so much more powerful than she could even dream to be.
Then she glanced back, at the mirror.
Cater held his hands up, yelling something that was inaudible to those not in the Heartslabyul pocket dimension, winking at something they couldn’t see.
A tree speared him through the chest. He choked on his usual smile. He coughed, blood speckling the untainted trunk in front of him.
The clone dissolved into nothing.
A distraction, perhaps, so people could run to find safer places to hide for the moment.
She had the sinking feeling that the plan was actually to lead the Overblot to the mirror. That he wanted to use the rest of the school as bait, just so he could live.
She turned to the innocent bystanders.
“Rosehearts-senpai has Overblotted,” she said, her voice surprisingly calm despite the way her heart thudded in her chest in time to the deceptively cheery kids song that was Painting the roses red.“He is coming. Believe me. Or don't, I couldn't care less. But we all need to run.”
It wasn’t hard to believe her.
The Overblot approached the place where the clone had fallen, the ink sloshing over the top of its jar with every lumbering step, painting the cobbled stone path black. It knelt to scoop up the tree, gently cradling it in its fingers for a moment. Blood rubbed off on its white gloves.
Dully, Yuko thought that, at least, Riddle’s ghost could at least be glad that those damn roses were finally red.
It turned to look at them them. Without a Riddle hanging on the front, screaming and crying, it was strangely eerie, to look at a faceless being, and yet know that its eyes are locked solely on you.
With intent.
It hefted the tree in its hand, preparing to throw it.
They didn’t wait to see whether or not the tree would be able to make it through the mirror.
Shoes skidded on tile as they took off running again.
People scrambled in every direction. Towards the safety of their own dorms. Trying to find a way out. A place to hide. Anything that might save them. The more they spread out, the more of them that would survive. They knew this all intrinsically.
They also knew that those who got caught would die alone.
“Okay, okay, okay,” Ace said, leading their group through the halls with ease. Despite how little time they had spent at the school so far, he knew the layout like the back of his hand. “We need to get out of here.”
“Come up with that plan on your own?” Deuce snarked.
“I’m fucking sorry do you have a better one?”
Yuko groaned. “Not the time, guys.”
They grumbled and fell silent, instead focusing on getting out the doors.
Crowds of people, heading about their days like normal, seemed confused by the group of teens that were set on getting out of the building without paying any mind to the people they might end up trampling along the way. Maybe they thought they were running from Riddle’s punishments. They wouldn’t be entirely wrong, if that was what they were guessing, but they didn’t know the full extent of things.
She should tell them the full extent.
Ace met her eyes and, briefly, in a motion so small it was almost lost in the steady bounce of pounding footsteps, shook his head.
Her voice died in her throat.
They both knew that the more people the Overblot encountered, the more it would be distracted from chasing them. That the more people they warned, the harder it would be to push through crowds, to stick together, to get away and be sure that everyone else had escaped, too.
They stepped out onto the grounds without uttering a word of warning.
Mud squished beneath their feet as they ran. It had rained earlier that morning, but now the sky was sunny. Deceptively, it was a nice day out. It felt wrong.
It was hot. The sun beat down on them relentlessly.
They were out in the open.
Others rushed into the woods, hoping to find comfort and safety with the trees as cover, but they had forgotten the dangerous wildlife and poisonous and venomous plants that would prove to be just as fatal as the Overblot. No, they had to leave, that was the only chance they had of making it out of this alive.
It would just require them running across an open field in broad daylight. It wasn’t a short sprint, either.
In the back of their minds, they knew that their school was on an island, so they probably wouldn’t be able to get away in the long run even if they did, by some stroke of luck, make it off campus. But they didn’t care. They just wanted more time.
Time they didn’t seem to have.
“AaaaAaaaCe TrrrRaaaappolA!” the creature roared from somewhere within the castle. Blot spilled from a tower window, which was helpful for trying to figure out where it had gone, but unsettling in that it was heading up the Astronomy tower, a place with an open roof and a view of the entire campus grounds. It was getting the high ground, trying to spot them. Even when lost to the blot, nothing that was formed from Riddle Rosehearts could be entirely stupid.
They were going to be found.
Ace turned a few shades more pale.
“What do you guys think are the chances we all misheard that?” he tried.
“Nonexistent,” said Grim.
Ace gave another laugh. It was bitter, unsettling, making the hair on the back of her neck stand on end. It was at this very moment that she remembered that the Queen of Roses was said to be a tyrant, yes, but that her subjects were also said to be mad.
She grabbed his hand, pulling him to a stop, and he looked at her with wide, imploring eyes.
Their friends slowed as well, though they looked no happier.
“We can’t, we can’t stop,” Grim said. As a fire monster, he couldn’t cry, but it sounded like he was getting as close to it as was possible for him.
She ignored him. She knelt and grabbed two handfuls of mud, and then dumped them over Ace’s head.
He shrieked, indignant and disgusted as brown ran down the back of his neck, seeping under his collar. “Wh – what are you –?”
“Hair’s recognizable. Need to cover it.”
His eyes widened and he practically dove into the ground, rolling in the mud. Dirtying his hair and collar. If there was one thing she could respect about the boy, it was that he was surprisingly quick on the uptake, when he wanted to be.
Next, she shoved brown into Deuce’s hands.
“Do you even know what mud is –?” he started to ask.
“No, and I couldn’t care less.”
He grimaced, but started combing his fingers through his hair to dye it.
She briefly pressed her hands to the back of her own neck, allowing the excess, cool mud to bring her down before she could overheat.
That dealt with, she knelt beside Grim, who was shaking like a leaf despite the heat and exhaustion. Carefully, she ran her fingers through his fur. He complained about the mud, but ultimately leaned into her touch regardless.
She pressed a kiss to the top of her familiar’s head.
He leapt into her arms, and she shouldn’t have had enough strength to carry him, and yet she did. The monster looped his arms around her neck, hugging her close, and he half-sobbed into her shoulder.
“We’ll make it out of this,” she promised. “And we’ll tell everyone that you, the Great Lord Grim defeated the nasty Overblot, and you’ll be the greatest mage in the world at age, like, one and a half.”
Grim, for once, didn’t take the opportunity to spout off about his greatness.
He trembled in her arms.
She thought he was falling apart at the seams.
She thought she felt the same.
But she didn’t have time for any of that. She was the smart one, the one who had figured out what to do at the mines, and she would figure out what to do here, too. Her parents had named her Yuko – helpful child – and she was going to help her friends get out of this damned school. And then she was going to figure out how to make a portal back to her own world, and drag these three idiots along with her so they wouldn’t have to experience anything as dangerous as this ever again.
It was what they deserved.
(It was a pipe dream and she knew it.)
Only once they got what they deserved would she allow herself to finally break down.
For now, she had problems to solve.
Eventually, finally, the pair of mages she called her friends were entirely average-looking, unrecognizable.
Just in time, too, because the Overblot finally reached the top of the Astronomy tower. It stood upon the precipice, leaning over, spilling black down the sides.
Yuko covered Grim with her school uniform jacket, hiding his flaming ears and electric blue eyes from view.
The Overblot peered over the grounds. For a moment, its gaze landed on them.
It continued on.
It didn’t find what it was looking for.
It screamed, frustrated, and leapt directly from the tower. The ground, already unsteady and muddy beneath their feet, shook.
It paid their shouts of surprise (and horror as it sunk in just how large the thing was) no mind. Instead, it turned and ran into the forest, bowling over trees as it went.
For just a moment, none of them even dared to breathe.
They looked at each other, wondering if they had all imagined it. Whether the stress had broken their minds already.
Surely, they couldn’t actually be escaping.
Deuce grinned widely, too widely, it didn’t fit his face at all.
He grabbed her by the shoulder and jerked her to her feet, pulling her back into a run. Grim curled tighter in her arms, trying to make himself more aerodynamic since they were not risking stopping even if just for a few seconds so she could put him down. Ace followed after them, hot on their heels.
The gates came into view.
A breathless laugh escaped her. She almost couldn’t believe it.
She shouldn’t have.
They couldn’t even get within three meters of the gates.
A forcefield no one had ever noticed before – no one had ever been this desperate to leave before – glimmered purple as they bounced off of it, the four of them tumbling back into the grass.
It was deathly silent.
They were… stuck.
In here.
With the monster that was actively calling for one of their heads.
They rushed forward, fists pounding against the forcefield, desperate wails spilling from their throats, begging that somehow someone would pass by and hear and be able to help.
No one came.
Yuko sunk to her knees.
“We’re doomed,” she breathed.
“No. Nonono! Yuko, don’t say that! You have to have a plan!” Deuce almost begged. “You always have a plan.”
She stared at the wrought iron in front of her. At the trees they could see through the bars, at the safety that was so close and yet so far.
“I – I don’t know.”

A Diffrent Kind Of Story - Buisnesse
After showing her capability of beating the second princess of the Afterglow Savanna in chess to her new acquaintance, they proceed to show them how things are with her and the Octavinelle trio.
A Different Kind of Story Chapter 3
"You have quite some sass, don't you?" the vice of Octavinelle said, very amused.
"I mean, why not. Just because she's royalty doesn't mean she shouldn't know how to take criticism, right?"
'Criticisms'. A kind way of phrasing it. It was obvious that it wasn't a question., yet it got an annoyed huff out of Leona.
"Would you like to continue, Leona-senpai? Or would you like to go back to your dorm and take a nap?" the brunette smiled innocently.
"Shut up, herbivore. Don't tell me what to do. Just continue," he said as he dismissed the girl with a swift hand motion.
-
The reflection of them began to go hazy again.
The next thing that was seen in the mirror was Yuko and Grim, seated in one of the chairs of Mostro Lounge. The restaurant was filled with many other guests, who chattered without a care in the world. Besides the chattering of the students, quiet and relaxing jazz music could be heard.
Yuko and Grim just finished their dishes and talked about this and that. Grim mostly complained about the other first-years of their little group, with Yuko just listening. The two haven't left yet, since Azul wanted to meet them for something.
"Hello, Koebi-chan~" Yuko looked up to see two mismatched, droopy eyes and a lazy grin.
"Hello, Floyd-chan. How yo-" The seconde-year suddenly lanched her arms around them and squeezed her. They let out a choking sound for suddenly getting the air squeezed out of her lungs.
"F-Floyd, please let me go. I-I can not breath", the younger one choked out. As predicted, she didn't listen. The Ramshackle Prefect, still struggling, tried to free herself while their upperclassmen just laughed. Even Grim complained. That got some heads to turn.
"Floyd, please let her go," a gentle voice said. Floyd let out a quiet. disappointed 'Aww' before, finally, letting go. "Good. Now apologies to Yuko-san."
"But Jade-"
"No buts. We do not squeeze any of our guests. No matter how close we are to them", the calmer twin scolded. The second twin turned around to face Yuko again and apologized before getting sent off to the kitchen.
"I'm sorry, Yuko-san. You know how easily carried away my sister can get."
Yuko just waved it off, saying that it was nothing. And if considered how bad Floyd's mood can get, it was. Jade, as always, smiled politely.
"Anyways. I was sent here to show you the way to Azul. I suppose you two have some kind of business to discuss."
"Ah. Thank you, Jade. Are you coming, Grim?" Still angry about what happened, the feline jumped onto the prefect's arm so they can get going.
-
By now, Jade, Yuko and Grim were standing in front of Azul's office's door. Jade then knocked on the door, asking for entry. From the other side of the door was a 'come in' audible. Jade opened the door for Yuko and Grim to enter, then closing it again so they could talk in private.
"Hello, Yuko. I'm glad to see you here again." The dorm leader got up from her office chair to greet her guests.
"I'm also delighted. Especially since we can talk without any... unusual circumstances," Yuko said as the two of them, awkwardly, shook hands. Azul quickly cleared her throat before offering Yuko a seat. They took the offer and gently placed their companion on their lap.
"So. What did you want to talk about?"
The other took a seat as well, opposite of Yuko. "Don't worry. I don't want to make a deal with you if that's what you thought. I already learned that I can't fool you to sign one." The dorm manager took one of the snacks that were on the little table in the office.
"So you admit that all of your deals are a scam? Or am I misinterpreted that?" The younger one also took one of the snacks as a dessert.
"I never said that. But sometimes, if my clients are foolish enough, or other reasons, I may bend the contract in my favour."
"So all of this 'being professional' is also nothing but talk if things like that happen here."
That certainly struck a nerve in Azul. Now the fun can begin.
"So your saying I can't be professional? Hah, you have a silver tongue, I give you that," the octopus said amused, as she took a bite from the snack in her hand.
"Never said that. I learn more and more about this school."
"Such as?"
Bingo. "Why would I tell you? It certainly would be good fuel for our little talk, but there is also plenty of other stuff to talk about."
A little 'tsk' escaped Azul's lips. "So that's where this is going. Is there at least anything of value that you 'learned'?"
"What do you consider of being 'of value'? Maybe then we'll get somewhere."
Azul put her hand under her chin in thought. "Well, some secrets or things of that sort would be of use, I suppose." Yuko, who was petting Grim (already asleep again), reached for another treat, curious where this is heading.
"You are a scammy one, aren't you? Even though, I expected nothing else if I'm honest. To refresh your memory, I am very close to the headmistress and other dorm leaders, right?"
"My, my, you're right. So I suspect there are something I could use for... 'businesses'. What would you like for that kind of information?"
Yuko hummed in the thought. "Well, I do require some money for the interior of my dorm. It would also be of use if you'd have some favours to pay back. So how about this." They pulled out a piece of paper, wrote a sum of madol and slid it towards Azul. "I offer you some information. In return, you give me money and some favours. How does that sound?"
The businesswoman eyed to piece of paper, considering the deal. "Are the twins also involved in the 'favours' I'd own you? And how many are we even talking about?"
That got Yuko thinking. Azul was mostly the brain of the group, while the tweels did all of the hard work. It would allow more options if they're in the deal. "Mmh, since you three are often together, it would be best if they are involved in our little deal. About the favours, how about 4?"
"I actually couldn't care less if these two play a role here. It would mostly affect me anyway," the other thought out loud. "But only 2 favours."
"3 favours."
"Deal" The head of Octavinelle snaped once, and a golden contract appeared out of thin air. She then laid the piece of parchment on the table, in front of Yuko, waiting for it to be signed. "Just sign here the matter is sealed."
And Yuko happily obeyed. Azul smiled contented after it was signed gracefully.
"Then this is finished. I'll hand one of the twins the things you want to know." Yuko got up, taking Grim in their arms before bowing. "It was nice to make business with you. Until next time," she said as they left the room.
-
"Little question", Riddle chirped head in hands. "Did you just promised Azul to tell secrets from others? Others who have an actual influence on the student body? Just for some money and three favours?!"
Yuko chuckled slightly, Azul glaring at him, clearly offended. He knew what others thought of his schemes, but he still liked to play the victim.
"Let's just say it would've been of use for her to clarify what kind of secrets."
Riddle looked up, who did not expect this kind of answer.
"In other words; You scammed the scammer."
"Haha, you could say that. In the end, I just gave information that wouldn't be of great use. Yet, she was not able to say that I cheated since I just promised her some secrets, but not what kind of secrets," the girl revealed with a small, devilish grin.
"Moving on to Scarabia, shall we?"

Prompt : 44. Did you really think you could escape
Yandere tweels x reader
Recently you were kidnapped by the tweels . It happened out of no where . One day you decided to tell them about money issues you have . They smiled and said Azul had a contract that could help you . You forgot to read the fine print especially since you trusted them so much . Now you were caught in the eels trap . You now belonged to them . The only time you actually interacted with people was when working in the lounge but you couldn’t tell anyone the truth since the tweels were watching your every move .
You served as entertainment for the tweels . You weren’t allowed to leave octoville. You had a room their but the tweels had full control of it . You once woke up to jade watching you sleep . You were often manhandled by flyod including him giving you a lot of attention including constantly ruffling your hair . You were often lovingly squeezed by flyod .
You have heard of people escaping the tweels and getting out of contracts by going into hiding or having Crowley or any other teachers step in . But you had to wait for the right opportunity you couldn’t mess this up this could quickly become deadly. You started to keep track of the tweels and azuls schedules. You started going along with what the tweels wanted trying to gain their trust . Jade was supious at first because of how resistant you were at first often trying to escape him and his brother and in hiding. Flyod like this new change of pace .
You slowly started to gain more freedom but you were careful and you were figuring out where to go . Your friends sometimes went to the lounge but you usually don’t pay attention to them or even try and seek help from them since jade had make quote on quote jokes about how it would be a shame if your dear friends died .
Though there was a friend in octoville who was aiding you in your escape Yuko a wolf beast man who has big respect for women who thought what the tweels were doing was wrong .
One day when the lounge was empty which was weird . Yuko decided to distract the leeches by asking questions you decided to run . You tried to run away from the nrc and flee to the rsa . The halls were confusing.
Talking to Yuko flyod said your just trying to distract us for shimrpys escape . Jade said it’s interesting what your willing to risk why would you be so crude as to try and take her away from us . Jade said we let her escape for a bit to teach her a lesson we did find her new behavior weird . Jade said brother we need some blood for intimidation let’s take it from this poor unfortunate soul racking it’s pea brain around it’s foolish actions. Flyod using his strength held Yuko still while latching his jaws onto yukos shoulder. Jade widened his jaws went for the jugular and ripped it out . As this happened Yuko screamed and was crying in pain . “ to late for regrets “ said flyod . Yuko suddenly stopped moving . “ jade I’m not getting enough blood from the shoulder I’m going to go for the arm and the arm veins “said flyod. Could you make it quick don’t want mc getting to far . Flyod said she’s attempting to get to the rsa that’s really far right.
You were running you taking heavy breathes . You heard a voice saying shirmpy . You turned to see jade and flyod covered in blood . Flyods teeth stained with blood him smiling as if proudly showing them off . Blood splattered on him like he was doing on art project with blood . Jade with blood accompanied with a eerie energy . They weren’t chasing after you really them walking slowly like they have already won . You ran fast not looking behind you . You had a sense that the blood was yukos . You felt deep regret you shouldn’t have gotten him involved.
Lost in your own thoughts you suddenly were grabbed. As you struggled flyod dragged you back to octoville. Jade reminding him to be a bit more gentle . Flyod roughly tossed you on the bed .
Jade said we had a sense you were trying to escape . “ we overheard you talking to Yuko about escaping so we decided to teach you a lesson said flyod . Did you really think you could escape they both erriely said in unison

2019 Hugo Award finalists announced
Tumblr media
The 2019 Hugo Award nominees have been announced; the Hugos will be presented this summer at the 2019 World Science Fiction Convention in Dublin, Ireland.
Normally, I find that I've read and reviewed a huge slice of the year's finalists, but this year is different; I've done a lot less reading lately, partly because I wrote two books in 2018 and partly because the new EU Copyright Directive ate my life for about 10 months in the past year.
I was a little sad to be so far behind the curve when I saw the new list, but then I realized that this meant that I had a bunch of really exciting books to add to my to-be-read pile!
One notable inclusion: the Archive of Our Own fanfic archive -- a project of the Organization for Transformative Works (for whose advisory board I volunteer) -- is up for "Best Related Work."

On sale Mar 18 b&w, 48 pages $19.99 HC, 11 1/2″ x 8”
Death arrives in this darkly humorous and brilliantly illustrated tale created by Nicholas Gurewitch, author of The Perry Bible Fellowship Almanack!
Death becomes a patient of a recently bereaved psychoanalyst. The topic of discussion? His frolicsome child, who has no apparent interest in grim reaping! Featuring an unfathomable number of lines which have been hand chiseled into inked clay, this labor of love by Nicholas Gurewitch invokes the morbid humor of his comic strip (The Perry Bible Fellowship) and the spooky silent-film qualities of the late Edward Gorey.

A Different Kind Of Story - Dance and Grace
It was time for some music and refinement. After some business talk with a scammy octopus lady, Yuko decided to show a small feast she once was invited to, arranged by her friends from Scarabia, and some day-to-day life at the ever so gorgeous Pomefiore.
A Different Kind of Story: Chapter 4
Yuko hasn't even been a solid 5 minutes in the Scarabia dorm, but they already were melting. The afternoon sun was brutal on her skin. Grim wasn't doing any better.
"Are you ok, Yuko? Should I get you something to drink?" Yuko turned her head two face two worried, red eyes.
"Is that a yes or a no? You know what? It doesn't matter. I'll get you one," Kalim said as she patted Yuko on the shoulder before getting up. The brunette tried to stop her, but Kalim didn't listen and quickly came back with some drinks.
"You really shouldn't have to..." Yuko said but took the drinks regardless. "You don't have to be so polite! You two are our guests! A drink or two should be the least!" Yuko could have sworn she needed sunglasses with how bright Kalim was. It gave her a warm feeling of familiarity.
All of a sudden, a sweet and flavourful smell filled the lively lounge of Scarabia. A brunette with long hair and a hood came into the room. She carried multiple plates with different foods, which vary from perfectly sweet to super spicey.
"Wow! These smell amazing, Jamil-senpai," The Prefect of Ramshackle praised, clapping their hands together with sparkles in their eyes. Jamil didn't pay her or her compliment any mind and just placed the dishes on the table.
"You can compliment me if it tastes as good as it smells.", the second-year commented blankly.
"Fnyaaa, why can't you take the compliment! She's at least trying to be nice to you, even after what you did, you snake!" Yuko looked down at Grim and smiled fondly while giving Grim some head pats. Jamil just turned around with an angry huff and leaving the room to get more food.
"Seriously, why are you trying to be so friendly with her? It's obvious she doesn't give a damn about everyone but herself."
"That sounds like everyone at this school, to be honest. People deserve a second chance, and I think I'm not the only one who knows this." The first-year turned to Kalim, who looked kind of sad. Yuko knew that Kalim still concerned herself with many things. Yuko didn't know why or what those things were, but they also felt like it wasn't their place to ask questions.
Yuko's train of thought was interrupted by the other members of the dorm, who all decided to dig in and enjoy the sweet and spicy dishes their vice leader made.
-
The feast came along significantly.
Cheerful chattering filled the room. It had accompanied by entertaining music, played by some students who had already finished their meal.
The two guests from Ramshackle were having a small conversation with the ever so joyful host of the party. Mostly Grim was talking with her. Yuko just sat there, enjoying her meal while her furry companion on her lap was having a good time.
The young Crowley roamed the filled room with attentive eyes. She saw students eating and praising the food, telling stories (some real, some not), or were merely telling jokes and were having a good time. Among those students, there was a brunette standing on the sides, watching them. An idea then popped into the first-year's head.
Yuko excused herself politely from the second-year who so kindly invited them. They then proceeded to walk to the vice to start a little chat for herself.
"Hello Jamil-senpai," Yuko greeted. "The dishes were astounding. The sweets felt like they were melting in my mouth! There also was a hint of apple in there, or am I incorrect? Either way, would you mind if I asked for the recipe itself?" Startled, Jamil turned around to face her junior.
"Uhm, of course? I did not know you'd enjoy it that much that you would ask for the recipe. It's a common sweet in my family" Jamil seemed taking back by Yuko's sudden request. Yet only an innocent smile painted their face while listening to their senior reciting the recipe.
-
"You seem to be enjoying yourself there, Yuko," Ace mocked with a sly smile.
"What could you possibly mean, Ace?"
"Don't act this innocent. If you are an alternate version of our buddy Yuu here, then you are just trying to annoy her, aren't you? Also, you and Kalim there are disgustingly sweet, I have to say." The ace of Heartslabyul said. Yuko gasped in offence and put one of her gloved hands on her chest gem.
"Oh, how could be so mean! I just tried to have a nice conversation with my upperclassmen", the girl wailed. "And, ohh, I am sorry that I am just having some fun with Kalim. I didn't know being nice to others is actually 'disgusting'" Ace smirk swiftly was erased from his face. Some of the first years even snickered a bit about the answer to the boy's comment.
"It is just," the girl in the mirror continued. "I like talking to her since she gives up a sense of comfort. She is like the older sister I never had," Yuko said fondly.
Kalim was also beaming with joy and pride. It seemed knowing that someone, who isn't related to him, thought of him as an older sibling figure made him happy. Even though not directly meant.
"A-ah! Let's not get distracted, shall we? Next is Pomefiore," the girl in the mirror announced.
"Of course not. Although, before we start, let me say that it is very nice to hear that you think that way, young one." Lilia was heart warmed. Father instincts, Yuko silently assumed before fading from the other sight.
-
After Yuko got the recipe for the dish Jamila made, they said their goodbyes to her friends and made her way to Pomefiore.
The old castle was as beautiful and graceful as ever. The afternoon wind made it seem even more like it was from a fairytale.
As soon as Yuko entered the big walls of Pomefiore, she got greeted by a petit-looking first-year. The student's long lavender hair swayed behind them as they approached Yuko as if a breeze was flowing through the dormitory.
"Yuko! Perfect timing! Please save me from Vil! She's trying to put me in one of those disgusting, frilly dresses!" the smaller girl whined. She clutched against Yuko's arm as if it would have helped convince Yuko of her need for help. "Epel, please, I can't hide you every time. I also am starting to think that Vil might know our hideouts by now" Yuko kindly smiled as Epel continued to beg for her help. Yet to no avail.
Moreover, Vil appeared. Her long gowns were perfectly put on, with no faults whatsoever. They flowed behind her while she walked down the hall towards the first years.
It was like looking at a goddess.
But alas, this beauty was angry.
Behind her followed NRC's huntress, Rook. Her heavy boots' steps and Vil's high heels clicking echoed through the empty and silent hall, Epel's begging long died out.
"Epel! How dare you try to run away again! You'll never learn how to use those natural looks correctly. Don't get me started on how to treat them right!" Vil pinched Epel's cheek, ignoring the junior's complaints.
"Oh my, oh my! The Trickster has arrived! How splended~ Your little companion is at your side, as well."
Yuko smiled politely and started holding Grim a little tighter in her arms, in case Grim would try to flee from the huntress.
"I am also very delighted to make your acquaintance again, Rook-senpai. How is it currently going?" The senior started beaming at the question with a bright smile. Her hands flew up to her head. "Oh Trickster, how happy I am that you asked! Reine de Poison was only trying to show our little apple how to put on more voluminous dresses, but the little one didn't seem to like the idea, which is a loss, to be honest. Just imagine Mademoiselle Cherry Apple in one! She'd look like an innocent angel~."
Yuko couldn't hide their chuckle at the thought of Epel wearing something like that. Now they sure knew why Epel was so desperate for help.
-
They all made their way to the lounge for some tea, the argument between Vil and Epel never-ending during the short walk.
At this point, the Ramshackle Prefect was holding Grim's mouth shut, knowing that Grim would spit some non-polite comment. Either at Rook or Vil. Which both wouldn't end well for them.
Vil, Epel, Yuko and Grim seated themselves on the beautiful couches of Pomefiore. Rook made her way into the kitchen to prepare the tea. For Yuko's and Grim's ears pleasure, Vil's and Epel's bickering had stopped.
"So tell me, little potato," Vil started, "have you finally renovated your old dorm by now? I am confident that this hideous place could look better," Harsh as ever, Yuko thought.
Nonetheless, the dorm leader was right. It was old and rotten, and it already was hard work to get it into the condition it is now.
"The renovations are coming along, Vil-senpai, yet I highly doubt I will get it finished any time soon. Nonetheless, I am happy to say that I acquired some donations from Azul. For furniture for the interior, as well for the outer parts. Maybe I'll even have to ask someone to help me with the gardens soon if this all keeps going at this pace. But first, the rooms and all should be looking presentable, of course." Yuko explained. Her senior hummed understanding.
Rook re-enters the lounge with a trey, which has some tea and snacks on it. "Oh la la, what did I miss? Where are you talking about the Ramshackle dormitory?" Room asked as she put the trey downs on the table. How did she know that? Until now, she was in another room!
"Yes, we were discussing the Ramshackle dormitory, Rook. The renovations, to be exact," Vil said as she sipped her tea.
"Epel, you were awfully quiet until now. Does the topic of your friend's home not interest you?"
As if being ripped out of a daydream, Epel quickly looked up. "N-no, this isn't the reason! I didn't want to interrupt yall- I mean you all."
Vil inspected her as if trying to figure out if she was lying or not. After 20 seconds of starring, Vil accepted the explanation as genuine and let out a small sigh.
"Epel, at least sit straight and look me in the eyes while talking. The cup goes up to your head, not your head to the cup!" Vil pinched Epel's cheek once again, ignoring Epel's whines. It all ended in another argument.
-
Leona put one of his hands on his temple in annoyance. He just witnessed two arguments, one in full length and the other one's just started. "Is this also like this here?"
"Yep, totally," said all the first-years in unison, except for Epel, who had a feeling of betrayal in his eyes.
"How could you all fall into my back like that?!"
"Epel, you know that they are sadly telling the truth. We, rather often, have different opinions on things," Vil kindly reminded the student he took under his wing. Like a father
"Nevertheless, Leona, you should know how hard it can be to look after your first years. Oh wait, on second thought, you probably don't, since you push all your responsibilities onto Ruggie,"
Leona only growled, knowing that starting a fight with the fellow third-year would be pointless.
Everyone in the room went quiet. Even Rook didn't say anything. After a minute of awkward silence and Vil and Leona starring at each other, Yuko cleared her throat, getting all of the male's attention.
"How about we move on to our last two dorms. Then we'll call it for today? It's been a long day with a lot of new things to process," Yuko clapped their hands together while talking. They were just happy that there weren't any nasty comments on any of her friends.

A Different Kind Of Story - Some Tea And Chess
Now that everyone had gathered in the Ramshackle dorm and have met the unexpected guest, Yuko, she decided that it would be time to fulfil her promise; Showing her world to the others.
A Different Kind of Story: Chapter 2
The mirror started to glow again, the figure of the female disappeared. Instead of Yuko, the Main Street of NRC with the statues of the Great Seven. Along the path walked Yuko with a gremlin following her.
"Yukoooo~ It's Saturday! Why do we have to go Heartslabyul~? " The cat-like monster asked, mostly complained, in an annoyed voice while climbing on the girl's shoulder. "Oh, come now, Grim, cheer up! Rosehearts-senpai was kind enough to prepare a little tea party for us. Only our friends from Heartslabyul and us," they explained to the creature on her shoulder.
An unmotivated 'Nyaaa~' was the only answer she got, though.
They both stepped through the mirror leading to Heartslabyul and headed straight towards the dorm.
"Hello? Why is nobody here?" The Prefect of Ramshackle said out loud as she entered the building. She looked around the twisted floors but saw no one. Abruptly, a giggle echoed through the deformed floor. They quickly looked around, seeing nothing again. In the next moment, she felt two hands on her shoulders and could hear the giggles right next to their ear.
"YOU ACTUALLY CAME!"
Yuko and Grim both froze in place. The one who surprised them had her hair in a high, messy ponytail and had cherry red eyes with a red heart painted on her left.
It took a moment for the Ramshackle students to gain their composure again. Yuko then laughed a bit at her friends 'joke'. "Of course, Ace. First of all, I wanted to come. Second, I don't want my head taken." Yuko joked. The other one, on the other hand, answered completely serious. "Yuko-chi, you know god damn well this could've happened. By the way, don't you mean 'Our'? We aaaaalllll would've lost our heads!" The student gestured dramatically. Yuko just shook her head with a sigh, which got her a happy laugh from their friend.
"No, I mea-"
"I hate to admit it, yet Ace is right, you know?"
A second girl with long, navy hair and a spade on her right eye suddenly appeared behind the Ramshackle dorm leader. Yuko and Grim scream in fear, the scream echoing through the halls of Heartslabyul. Why does everyone here scare them or popped out of nowhere? "Deuce, you dumbass, don't scare us like that!" Grim fussed.
-
Together, the four of them walked to the dorm lounge.
As they open the door that leads to the lounge, welcoming came from two students. One had leaf green eyes, orange, long hair -with the top portion tied back into a ponytail while the rest hung straight- and a diamond painted under her right eye. The second one had golden eyes, with her green hair was in a side braid, with a clover painted onto her left cheek. It was pretty easy to tell that they were Trey and Cater.
"Yuko-chan! Grim-chan! Rosehearts-san already awaits you two!" The orange-haired schoolgirl cheerfully said and walked over to the first-years while taking her cellphone out. "Say Cheese~," She said and took a selfie with her underclassmen. "Greetings to you too, Cate-senpai. Also to you, Trey-senpai."
A fifth figure joined the talking girls.
A small girl.
She had long, wine red pigtails, those formed two open flowers, along two strands of hair making a heart on top of her head and slate-grey eyes. Her big gown made her look even more petit.---
She looked adorable.
-
The girls have moved to the dorm lounge to have tea. But the odd thing was they were upside down.
Meaning the table, everything on the table, and the girls themselves were on the ceiling, without falling. As if physics didn't exist.
-
It was so unexpected that Vil even cut in.
"How is this possible? Even the tea doesn't fall!"
Yuko, unfazed, answered the Pomifiore leader in mere seconds.
"Oh, trust me, I would like to know myself. So I can't really explain it to you. I apologize."
"Yuko-san, not to be rude or anything, but you do know the laws of physics and many more things should prevent occasions like this from happening, right?" Azul tried to explain.
The girl knew that Azul didn't mean it in a mean way. Everyone would question what they were saying.
"Fufufu, of course, I do. When I first saw this, I thought I was mad! It turned out they were the mad ones. But this is a topic for a later time. Let's get back on track," Yuko waved the conversation off. A few complaints came with this decision.
-
By the time Yuko managed to convince them that they'll find out what she means, later on, the girls themselves finished their tea. "Thank you very much for the invitation, Rosehearts-san. But Grim and I have to go now. I have promised, Kingscholar-senpai a round of chess yesterday."
"It's quite alright Yuko-san, I hope you'll have a pleasant day", the dorm leader of Heartslabyul dismissed the two visitors. Grim and Yuko said their goodbyes to the others and left off to Savannaclaw.
-
On the way to the second dorm, the boys met another friend of Yuko, Jackie. The beastman (woman?) Already awaited her at the mirror leading to the Savannaclaw dormitory. She looked pretty much exactly like Jack. The only significant change was that her hair was in a low ponytail. The wolf-girl accompanied the two visitors on their way to the dorm leader in an appreciated silence.
-
Currently, Yuko was in the middle of a chess match against her senior.
Grim laid asleep beside Yuko on the enormous bed of her upperclassman, not caring a bit about the chess game.
And in all honesty, they were only waiting until their opponent fell asleep as well, who already was halfway there.
"C'mon, Leona~ Don't fall asleep yet. You don't want to lose against a magicless first-year, don't cha?" As a response, Leona just grumbled something inaudible and flicked her tail.
The Prefect didn't take the magicless part too hard. They knew Ruggie only said that to rail Leona up.
Yuko silently smiled at themselves at the thought.
"You're head is up in the clouds again, herbivore." She quickly snapped back into reality and placed her figure.
"What the hell are you doing? Did you hit your head or what?"
"What do you mean, Kingscholar-senpai?"
Irritated, the lion motioned towards to playboard.
"This. You play like shit today. You're just lucky that you've always realized when I was able to defend you and stopped me." The only thing the third year got was a laugh.
"You may see it like that, I admit. Still, sometimes you have to take a step back and look at the whole picture in front of you."
Leona said nothing at this and decided to drop the conversation at that.
"Ugh, it pains me sometimes to know that you just leave stuff like that on the ground without fearing that somebody steals it!"
Both turned around to Ruggie holding an emerald bracelet. It was absolutely gorgeous. And expensive.
"Why should I? Nobody dares to enter my chambers, and if I'd find out that you've been stealing from me, I would force you to pay me all of that stuff, and you'd have to find a new job."
Ruggie just rolled her eyes.
"First of; That is the sad part: That you can threaten me by firing me and not pay me. Second; As of you'd care so much. I bet you wouldn't even notice if one of your accessories would disappear. You'd solely buy a new one. Enough money for you to do that is providing."
The two continued to argue as if Yuko wasn't even there.
She also didn't even try to do something against it since they knew it would do nothing.
The argument ended by Leona being annoyed and just telling Ruggie of and bringing her attention back to the chess game.
"Wow, I've been arguing and didn't pay complete attention, yet you still suck," the lion said with a smug smile.
"You only look onto the surface of things, don't you? Ignorance isn't a good look on you. Checkmate," Yuko said as she placed her chess piece back onto the board.
Leona's smug smile fell immediately.
"W-what? How?!"
Yuko only smiled while she explained her strategy.
"In conclusion, you've lost your chance at winning after I've made my first move." The second princess eyed them intensely. The Prefect's smile never more falling during the process.
After a minute of staring, the third-year broke the eye contact, rolled on her side and closed her eyes.
"Tch. Don't you herbivores have some other things to do? If yes, leave. Just make sure to put the board aside, and that quietly, got it?"
Yuko gave a recognition hum before moving off the bed, putting the board aside, taking Grim into their hands and making their way towards the door.
"Oh, before I leave." They turn around to their senior to face her. "I find it quite funny that this is one of your ways to handle failure. Just ignoring it. I may respect you, yes, yet you are a sour loser."
After that, she left without another word.

The prefect of Night Raven College, dorm leader of the Ramshackle dormitory and adopted daughter of the headmaster. They're a rather calm student, studious and have good grades, but they know how to handle people with bad intentions. Teachers and students actually started to consider that she was the actual daughter of the headmaster since she started picking up habits from him; like, speaking freely and without hesitation or fearing what others would think of her ideas or opinion.
Yuko becomes rather protective over those who she cares deeply and acknowledges. She speaks very polite with others, but drops it when close to the person. They get rather sarcastic when nervous or scared. To everyones surprise, she's capable of eating Lilia's cooking and actually enjoys it.
At the beginning of the school year, she got extra lessons from dire Crowley so that she wouldn't fall behind. Even now, Yuko still asks teachers and the headmistress for extra help when she actually falls behind.
(Yuko goes by she/her and they/them)
