And the most terrifying power in all these oceans is the ability to force someone to speak and understand only one language. Or well the power to control information and memories but like Ohara it was covered up by the government so let's pretend mass miscommunication is the most terrifying thing
Also yesterday a tongue tongue fruit user just get an awekening so this is what we have
Luffy : O que aconteceu com todos vocês ( What happen to you all ?)
Nami : Todos voltam com suas músicas originais (everyone comeback to their original languages)
Luffy : E onde está o problema (and where the problem ?)
Sanji : De quoi tu parles, putain de têtes de mousse (what the fuck are you talking about mosshead)
Zoro : なぜ私に向かって叫び続けるの、愚かなカーリー (why are you keep screaming at me you stupid Curly)
Chopper : Reindeer noise*
Robin : Все в порядке, не волнуйся, чоппер. ( It okay don't worry chopper)
Brook : yohohohoho
Luffy : Brook ainda Brook e ainda temos usopp (Brook still Brook and we still have usopp)
Usopp : Sim, infelizmente (yeah sadly)
Luffy : Espere onde Jinbe e Franky ( wait where Jinbe and Franky ?)
Nami : Eles estão lá (they are there) *pointing at them both
Jinbe : 奇怪的是我们是唯一没有改变的人 ( it's weird that we're the only one who didn't change ?)
Franky : 我认为你是对的 ( I think you're right )

Just a small detail that I wanted to highlight from Netflix’s One Piece. Even though this is clearly a Western production of a Japanese series, as you can tell from the more Hollywood-ish dialogue and action, the series isn’t completely divorced from its Japanese roots. For example, in the first episode, you can clearly tell Koby and Luffy are eating with chopsticks. And the little girl serves chocolate onigiri to Zoro.
It feels like the reverse of how anime used to be treated in the early 2000s. Remember when Pokémon had to change the name of the food to stuff like donuts and pizza? Now we have a Western show that’s based on an anime, and they’re making sure not to erase the Japanese influence in the series.

That random marine's perspective highlights how dark and brutal the Marineford War was. This episode is a masterpiece .

I want this guy to start enacting french rural courtship tradition. Like putting a whole tree by someone's window in the night.
Tumblr media
The tradition is mostly known as "l'arbre de mai" [may tree] but the trees can also just be called "Mais". You may know the german "Maibaum", but it's also a tradition in France, with variants depending on where you live. Basically, in the night of the first of may, young men will bring decorated trees (usually birch in germany and beech in france, but some trees can have additional meaning) to the window of unmarried girls from their village. This is done anonymously and the girls can try to figure out who did that. It's also linked to marriage.
In some region, instead of a small tree, all the young men bring a large tree to the village center and use the branches to make bouquet to leave on the window sill of girls.
There are many variants.

I'm curious how Zoros fight with King comes across in Japanese, especially his declaration of being king of hell
Tumblr media
so what i find really exciting and interesting about this development is something i do think is somewhat obscured in translation, which is now it sets up zoro as a parallel and successor to rayleigh.
rayleigh's epithet in japanese is 冥王/meiou, which is generally translated into english as 'dark king,' since that's the literal translation of the kanji. however, 冥王/meiou/'dark king' is also the term used in japanese to refer to hades/pluto, the greek and roman god of the underworld. the king of hell, in other words.
as we know, zoro's newest sword, the one that was formerly oden's and which he struggles with throughout this fight, is named 閻魔/enma. this is also the name of a king of hell- enma is another name for yama, the buddhist wrathful deity of the underworld.
Tumblr media
after answering king's challenge and saying that yes, he does have the will to become a king himself in order to fulfill his promises, zoro starts using the word 閻王/enou in his attack names, a word which the manga emphasizes to show its importance. this is another title of yama, and also mirrors rayleigh's epithet basically exactly, being a two-kanji name of a deity seen as the king of hell, where the second kanji is 王/ou ('king').
rayleigh is associated with hades, zoro is associated with yama. both are kings of hell- zoro is just somewhat more buddhist about it, which is fitting, given his wano heritage and his trend of invoking buddhist theology in his attack names. i would not at all be surprised if, if zoro ever does get a new epithet to replace his old kaizokugari/'pirate hunter' one, it's 閻王/enou.

While I think Garp would be soley responsible for Mihawk’s hair falling out in clumps if they spent any amount of time together
I do think garp and Zoro would get on splendidly. As they are after all the same flavor of person.
any attempt to put all three of them in the same room will give Mihawk ulcers.
Mihawk would comment on their stupidity
Garp would respond “ain’t got to be smart to be a marine” and zoro would raise his glass in salute “ here, here”
And Mihawk’s blood pressure would reach levels previously inaccessible by man.
