This was basically how Vasilka's introduction to the party went in our campaign! Though quiet and demure, she was more than happy to play host to the party, eager to demonstrate her lessons in etiquette and impeccable manners. The party even got some choice wine that the Abbot keeps in the basement of the Abbey. She did it with the thought mic would just forgive her, and maybe even be appreciative of her, but she wasn’t thinking about what mic Truly wants, she’s pushing a bit of herself upon mic’s wants. In her head she was doing the right thing, but in reality she wasn’t quite seeing what mic actually had wanted. Mic wanted to be Heard, and taco went against the one thing mic told her not to, in doing so she wasn’t listening to her. That makes me so ill. She really was expecting mic to be Happy about what she had did, because of what it brought to mic, but then she leaves and taco gets to really think about how her choices and morals do have consequences and not everything will go the way she thinks in her head, or through her reasoning. I wonder what would’ve happened if taco chose to actually listen to what mic had wanted in that moment, but I guess she was a bit too full of herself and her abilities and thought in giving what she thought mic wanted to her on a silver platter it could make them closer, stronger, a tighter bond. Then their entire existing bond got cracked by her going against her word and shattered upon mic breaking ties. I wouldn’t say it’s shattered beyond repair, taco just has to think a bit more about others thoughts

thoughts on wash's fighting style and his position in pfl because I can (utc because it's really long lol):

wash is very unique among the freelancers for a variety of reasons, one is that he doesn't specialize in one specific area of anything, he's a jack of all trades who is able to fill in for other freelancers if necessary. for example in s9 when york was supposed to be unavailable for lock picking/infiltration duty, carolina immediately went to wash (and we are ignoring that york is not shown to be good at lock picking!) if she trusted wash to fill in for their specialist in one area, I feel it's not a stretch to imagine that he can do so in other areas as well.

need a snipper but north and wyoming aren't available? wash can cover. need someone to get into the enemies' computer systems in place of ct, south, or york? wash can cover. need someone for stealth or reconnaissance in place of florida? wash can cover. etc etc.

wash's combat style reflects that jack of all trades, master of none thing very well too, as the way that he fights is very grounded and pragmatic when compared to the rest of the freelancers. a lot of people like to portray wash as less skilled than the other freelancers, but in truth I believe that wash being able to keep up and compete with the other freelancers despite his lack of dramatic flare is a show of just how competent and skilled of a soldier he is. wash is so good at doing what he does that he doesn't need all that extra bullshit to get the job done. sure, he might not look as Cool and SexyTM as the others while doing it, but completing the mission and surviving to live another day takes precedence over all else.

another way of looking at it is that wash fights in the same way that the odst's do, that is to say that he fights like a human who cannot plow his way through the battlefield in the same way the spartans can. wash's style of fighting is one that employs careful planning and targeted hit and run tactics—this is most obvious in recovery one and s6 whenever he's fighting against the meta.

I also feel it's important to note that wash is not a cqc fighter, he can handle himself if he gets into a cqc situations but his primary weapon is the battle rifle—which is a mid/long range weapon. if I'm being honest wash's way of fighting makes waaaaaaaaay more sense if you look at him not as someone who is trained to primarily fight against other humans, but as someone who is trained to fight against 8ft 2 ton aliens with plasma weapons that can slice through the hulls of UNSC battle cruisers (ships designed to travel through space!!!) like a hot knife cuts through butter and have the technology to raze entire planets to the ground in a matter of minutes.

I also personally believe that wash has the most military experience out of all the freelancers right behind florida, wyoming, and maine (who I hc as a spartan iii). we know that wash did his basic training in the leonis minoris system (a canonical halo system) and that system had two of the three planets glassed by the covenant in 2537, and wash directly references these events in the washed hands interview in the fan guide and the way he says it implies that he likely completed his basic training that same year. now I have some grievances with the timeline given in the book when it comes to the events depicted in the freelancer saga because it's just kinda weird, but everything prior to that bit is actually fine (though I hate the way that they decide to number the timeline lmao).

now in halo canon the human/covenant war ended in 2552, and according to the timeline in the rvb fan guide that was 1 year after alpha was sent to blood gulch. project freelancer is first cleared for funding 7 years BBG (before blood gulch), and recruits the 50 freelancers 5 years BBG. doing some math we can determine that pfl was cleared for funding in the year 2544, and the freelancers are recruited for pfl in 2546. so assuming wash finished his basic training in 2537 that would mean that he was in the military for 9 years before he joined pfl, and while wash is addressed as a corporal (e-4) in the washed hands interview he was most likely demoted to that after he was court martialed, and he was possibly going to be dishonorably discharged from the military because of his disorderly conduct.

using the current standards used by the us marine corps when it comes to rank progression, wash was most likely a sergeant (e-5) who was very close to being promoted to a staff sergeant (e-6). wash as a sergeant would've essentially been the assistant manager/co-leader of the platoon he was in while his staff sergeant was the manager/leader, and that would explain why he was able to even get into an argument with his CO in the first place. I believe wash held a similar position in pfl, as it's kind of implied that he did some management stuff in pfl (talking with internals/upper brass, him feeling comfortable with openly questioning carolina about whether york should be allowed on the sarcophagus heist, and of course he shows the ability to direct and somewhat lead south in recovery one, and him leading church, caboose, and the reds in s6, and him taking charge of the meta in s8).

even if wash wasn't a sergeant as a corporal he would've been in a position to be the leader of a fire team, so basically wash isn't some rookie who had no clue wtf he was doing as many in the fandom like to characterize him; he is an experienced and battle hardened soldier by the time he joins pfl no matter how you look at it.

to put all of that into context, carolina is born 29 years BBG, which would be 2522. so during pfl she's in the 24-28 range and she wouldn't have joined the military until 2540. I actually personally head canon that wash is the same age as carolina, but that he illegally enlisted at 15 because of a crappy home life, but ignoring my head canon and assuming that he joined the military at 18 instead, he would've been born in 2519.

Welcome to Ginger Saber Supremacy 🧡👏 I like those colors too! We're very spoiled with all the color options in the Jedi series (party saber anyone??) and I really enjoy seeing everyone else's go-to looks for their lightsabers.

But I keep coming back to orange because sure, it looks good with Cal's hair and creates the perfect warm lighting for taking photos - annndddddd I still like to pretend it was his actual canon color when retrieving the second kyber crystal from Ilum.

There isn't a super strong argument: orange was a pre-order bonus for Fallen Order (the only non-standard option for your first playthrough) and Cal's character design in both games is mainly blue and orange. While on Ilum he rebuilds the lightsaber by combining material from both his mentors, and I love the idea of the kyber color being "his" contribution. Not blue like Jaro's or green like Cere's (original) saber, but something new. Fully connected to the force and soon to be knighted Cal Kestis, with a non-traditional lightsaber that tells the story of his past and his future.

Since the games allow you to change the saber design/color whenever you want, something had to be the "default" that doesn't take away from the player decision on Ilum. So I'm fine with it being blue in Survivor. There's still a chance that the story of Jaro Tapal's saber isn't over (I briefly talked about it on this post) and canonically Cal could end up with a non-blue saber someday. But in the meantime I'll just keep corrupting y'all with my photomode shots ✌️

Is there a preferred order to read the books?

warrior cats is a monstruously huge series; (like really a lot a lot). nobody even expects you to own all of these and if you don't find them in your library, here's a link to all the pdfs

the first book in the series is "into the wild" and it's basically the best starting point for any warrior cats adventure. then reading the entirety of the 6 books of the prophecy's begin to have the full story if this arc. (warrior cats is split in arcs, all of whom have 6 books, we are currently at arc 8 right now...)

after TPB you have a few books that kinda open themselves to you; Firestar's quest is the first super edition (longer books than the main arc books at a difference of about 300 vs 500) or you can immediately jump into the next arc: The New Prophecy and read how the adventures continue. the first book there is called Midnight (also book five is called Twilight, do not get confused by it's more famous counterpart, this one has nothing to do with it).

(if you do read firestar's quest two other books kinda tie into them: SkyClan's destiny (another se), Cloudstar's Journey (a novella, they are smaller than the main series books) and Skyclan and the stranger (a graphic novel/manga/comic, whatever you want to call it)

the arcs go as follow: Power of Three -> Omen Of The Stars -> A Vision of Shadows -> The Broken Code -> A Starless Clan (there is also Dawn of the Clans: it's a prequel arc about how the clans were made, you can technically read it whenever you please, but it's suggested to keep it for after oots as it was written after that arc and a few things from that previous arc connect to this new series).

I'd say you at least read the four first arcs as they really have a lot of supplemental material attached to them, which would get confusing if you don't know what's happening in these arcs.

but from then on there are suggested reading lists, here's a somewhat outdated one, but it still does the job quite well. honestly you can just pick and choose whatever interests you most. some additional (SE's, Novella's, graphic novels...) books have ties to the main arcs (which are the main thing to read if you want to get into warriors), but they're not always needed, so pick and choose; this series is very vast and you'll probably find something that piques your interest!

if you do want to check up on a few things about the books or others, there is a warrior cats fandom wiki that will normally answer any question you have

He was the reason the healers had kicked the three of them out of the room, Blue thought bitterly. It wasn't like the infirmary didn't have the space, but the constant movement probably annoyed the healers, and Blue couldn't blame them. He wanted to snap for Vio to go calm Shadow down, but Vio was the only one who'd been allowed to stay in there with—

The door opened, and Blue was on his feet before he even registered Vio's voice saying "He's going to make a full recovery."

Vio stood in the doorway, Green at his side. Green was leaning heavily on Vio's shoulder for support, but he was upright. He stared blearily around the room with a crease between his brows, as if the waiting area were a puzzle he was trying to solve.

"It seems he was hit with some variety of confusion spell," Vio continued, "but Blue caught him before he could hit his head, and the spell should wear off on its own within—"

"Blue! Red! Shadow!" Green shouted suddenly, face brightening as if he'd only just noticed they were there. Vio winced at the loud noise right by his ear.

"—within about twenty four hours," Vio finished.

"Blue!" Green repeated. "Could you hold me? Please."

He pushed himself away from Vio without waiting for an answer, swayed for a moment, and once again began to fall. For the second time in as many hours, Blue caught him.

"You give good hugs," Green mumbled into Blue's shoulder as Blue, grumbling, got them both mostly upright again. "You don't like to admit it, but we know—" He poked Blue's chest as if for emphasis. "—we know you're really a big softie."

"Yeah, well." Blue could feel his face burning. "Don't go telling everyone."

"Your secret's safe with me," Green replied, or at least that's probably what the slurred "yr s'rs sfwm" was supposed to be.

A click sound went off.

Blue jerked his head around to glare at Shadow, who was holding a pictobox and grinning. A few sparks of dark magic still drifted in the air around him, indicating he'd just teleported.

"Yeah Blue," he said, as he handed the device to Red. "It's just between the five of us. And anyone who ever looks at Red's scrapbook."

Blue glared at him. But he also wrapped his arms a little more firmly around Green.
