Book 2 au: sparring sessions and short hair katara

They like to have sparring sessions in order to keep their bending skills sharp. They allow themselves to go all out and not hold back at all cause they know if anyone got hurt, Katara could just heal them

But anyways, wouldn't it be kinda funny if Zuko accidentally burned Katara's hair tho? Aofkqldkkajfjd

Thinking about Katara and Sokka seething over Aang and Zuko gallivanting around the South Pole penguin sledding and dancing in like nice light weight clothing because both their bending keeps them warm.

Like yes, they are probably also perceiving and lusting on spec but I would be so mad if I couldn’t wear a silly little outfit in my own home but these two dudes are like running around having acrobat time and I am in a huddle in the worlds thickest coat. I’d want those twinks dead.

This is Zu—I mean, Jian Li and Katara's second meeting in the Kyoshi Warriors AU. The first proper one, anyway.

Once they get through a minor difference of opinion or two (“I can carry my own basket!” “Never said you—” “I'm not weak!” “I didn't—” “Just because I'm a girl doesn't mean—” “Would you listen for once, woman?!” ) they'll become nearly inseparable.

For now Jian Li will carry Katara's basket all the way to the Kyoshi Warriors' dojo and, once there, they'll mercilessly tease Sokka when they see him in uniform.

Zuko, knowing full well it was Katara: Who could have done this?

Second Nobleman: Firelord, several of our war machines were crushed mysteriously by falling rocks overnight.

Zuko, deadpan, knowing it was Toph: Whatever shall we do?

Third Nobleman: And there was an uprising at one of the schools. Apparently one of the students, a young colonial wearing his school uniform belt as a headband, started a "rewrite the history books" campaign.

Zuko: Young people these days.

Fourth Nobleman: Also someone in a spirit mask is robbing the rich at swordpoint while reciting lines from theater.

Zuko: That one was me.

Swimming in a Mirror

Sparring is good for her then, she thinks. It’ll keeps her mind off things. But, as she assumes her starting stance across from Zuko, she see’s the middle of his chest and falters. Because that’s not how his chest used to be and she knows it. She stands limp and sees lightning and doesn’t even really hear him say her name. And Katara, feebly, asks, “does it still hurt?” Because it looks like it hurts. She’s worried that it hurts.

Summary: There's a heat wave in the Earth Kingdom so Katara and Zuko take refuge in the first river they find. And Katara thinks a lot about scars. (Finished for @zutaramonth 2024 day 5, Katara kept her scars)

personally i think katara is completely within in her right to be angry at and never forgive the man that killed her mother and in turn zuko is also within his right to be angry at and never forgive his abusers who gaslit manipulated scapegoated maimed banished and tried to kill him multiple times and neither of those things would make katara and/or zuko lesser than or bad people
