I'm not going in any specific order, just in the order in which these prompts nudge at me. This one is from @bolithesenate. Not entirely sure this is what you were imagining... the crime got replaced by Dooku being... Dooku-y and judgmental. It also got a little longer than planned... But I kind of want to play with Komari and Obi-Wan some more... so maybe???
*tosses Komari & Obi or Rael & Obi as Master-Padawan pairs here and runs away real quick*. I just like imagining the total chaos these would bring. Especially the Komari & Obi,,,, what crimes would they commit.
Yan stared down at the tiny thing—an initiate in pristine white tunics, staring up at him with wide, guileless eyes—in front of him. “What is this, Komari?” he asked, edging away.
“My new padawan,” his apprentice informed him, tone nearly belligerent.
Yan sent her his most censuring look, but Komari didn’t quail or retreat. Instead her jaw jutted out in sheer obstinance. It was… unusual. Komari had always been nearly desperate to keep him happy with her, but in this moment, such thoughts seemed to be the furthest thing from her mind.
“You are a padawan,” he informed her. “And still several years away from your knighting.” He glanced back at the—oh Force—child, who was still watching him silently, those wide eyes making Yan entirely uncomfortable.
“Well, he will be my padawan,” Komari informed him, not even the slightest bit deterred. “His name is Obi-Wan Kenobi. I found him and a padawan crawling through the air ducts trying to get into the kitchens.” She sounded disgustingly proud. “I’m going to teach him how to do it better.”
Yan wanted to know what, exactly, Komari had been doing investigating the air ducts, but decided that was a lesser concern at the moment. “And where is this other initiate?”
“Quinlan’s a padawan, Master Dooku,” the initiate corrected him. “Master Tholme took him on as soon as he turned ten.”
Tholme. Tholme was from Qui-Gon’s creche clan, he remembered. A Shadow. Yan had heard that he’d taken on some sort of rapscallion apprentice, but he hadn’t had a reason to be introduced. “And how old are you?” Yan asked the initiate.
The initiate shifted on his feet a little. No sense of confidence, Yan diagnosed. They’d have to do something about that.
Force, no, there would be no doing something about anything. Because this was not Komari’s future padawan.
“Eight,” the initiate told him.
Five years until the child was thirteen. It was possible that Komari would be knighted by then. But highly unlikely.
Yan narrowed his eyes at the child, who didn’t look away. Perhaps he didn’t lack confidence entirely; Yan was aware that many of the younger generations considered him… intimidating. An impression he had done nothing to try to alleviate.
“Well, Initiate Kenobi, I’m afraid that Komari is mistaken. She will be returning you to the Initiate Quarters immediately.” He turned his gaze on Komari, making certain that it was perfectly clear that he would not take her insubordination on this matter.
Komari glared at him, but wrapped an arm around the Initiate’s shoulders. “Come on, Obi-Wan. I’ll take you back to the Initiate Quarters. For now.”
Yan shook his head as she left with the initiate in tow.
Her future padawan indeed. Yan thought not.
5 years later
“Where is Knight Vosa?” Yan asked, searching through the ranks of Jedi. Galidraan’s air was cold against his skin where his robes did not protect him. They were preparing to approach the Mandalorian encampment with orders to surrender, but he could not find his former apprentice.
Knight Thriff winced. “Uh, the padawan said something about a bad feeling?” Thriff said. “Knight Vosa decided they needed to investigate. They left before dawn. No one knows where they went.”
Yan had not expected for Komari to be knighted so soon, but finding Initiate Kenobi five years ago had lit a fire inside of her that he hadn’t been able to temper. She’d been determined to be knighted in time to take Initiate Kenobi on.
She had dedicated herself so entirely to her training that Yan had run out of reasons to keep from Knighting her three months before the boy’s thirteenth birthday. She had arrived at the Council Chamber the day after her knighting with Kenobi in tow and the first bead already picked out for his braid.
The council had agreed unanimously to allow the partnership, despite Yan’s own concerns on the matter. Mace had actually gone so far as to tell him that the shatterpoint between the two of them was bright and beautiful and that Mace expected great things from them.
He had not wanted her to bring her new padawan with them to potentially fight Mandalorians. But Komari had been adamant that she wasn’t leaving him behind at the temple.
His comlink chimed.
He pulled it from his utility belt. “Master Dooku,” he answered curtly.
“Master.” That was Komari’s voice. “There’s a second encampment of Mandalorians in the southern quarter to blame for the death of the civilians in this quarter,” she informed him. “Death Watch.”
“How do you know this?” he asked, surprised. “We had no intel—“
“Well, Obi-Wan and I found the intel,” Komari said. “I’ve left Obi-Wan with the True Mandalorians—“
Horror filled him. “You what?”
“—Fett and I are investigating this second encampment. I’ve negotiated a temporary truce between our group and his.”
”You—“
“See you soon, Master.” The comm call cut out.
Yan felt the wind curl around him as it blew. He was not sure whether it was that or the sense that Komari was falling further and further from his reach that sent the chill down his back.
“Your Master is going to be okay,” Mand’alor Fett comforted a shaking Padawan Kenobi where the boy hovered over Komari’s sleeping form. Yan stood a few steps away, staring down at his unconscious former padawan, bacta patches over her side where a slug thrower had ripped into her.
Yan knew that it was likely his responsibility to comfort his grandpadawan, but he had never been good at comforting. Nor could he bring himself to do so when it was, in many ways, young Padawan Kenobi’s fault that Komari had been hurt.
If she had just listened to Yan and left the boy at the temple… But no, the boy had run into the battle against Death Watch despite orders to stay out of it.
“She’s a fighter,” Fett continued.
“It’s my fault. I should have stayed out, like she told me, too,” Kenobi whispered.
“You should have,” Fett agreed, not bothering to soften that blow. “Kyr’tsad isn’t the place for an ad, but you saved Myles’ and Alena’s lives. We won’t forget that.” Fett rested a hand on Kenobi’s shoulder. “You were trying to protect people, your Master is going to be proud of you for that.” He stood from his kneeling position. “Come on, I told Vosa that I’d keep you safe until you were off planet. Let’s see what we can do about teaching you to use a blaster in the time we have left.”
Yan watched as Fett led a reluctant Padawan Kenobi away. Yan looked down at his former apprentice. He remembered when she had been entirely devoted to him. But that hadn’t been the case in nearly five years. Now her devotion lay elsewhere. Yan had never thought he’d yearn for those days. But at least then, she’d have listened to his words of caution.
Still, perhaps she would listen now, when he cautioned her about her padawan.
If the two of them were not careful, they would stain the legacy of their lineage.
10 years later
“You trained her well,” his Master said, voice low and cruel. “Perhaps, too well.”
“She is a credit to my lineage,” Yan said, keeping his voice even. He hadn’t been pleased when Komari had been chosen to go to Naboo to spring the trap that his master had set. It could be no coincidence that it was one of his own apprentices sent. He knew that his Master was attempting to ensure that his ties to the Jedi be more… permanently cut.
A sickening part of him had just been grateful that it hadn’t been Qui-Gon that had been sent. Qui-Gon who, when he was honest with himself, he could acknowledge as loving most. But then, if Qui-Gon had been sent, then perhaps his Master would not be quite so displeased with him. Qui-Gon had always been something of a maverick, but a maverick who could be depended on to follow certain expectations.
Qui-Gon would have removed the Queen from the planet, would have gotten her to Coruscant to plead her case.
Komari and her padawan had never been quite so predictable. Galidraan had been the start, but not the end, of disobeyed orders and unsavory partnerships. Yan had fought constantly with the horror that could not quite stop the pride he felt when Komari and Obi-Wan became known as the team to send before the boy had even turned seventeen.
Perhaps Yan should have known that Komari and Obi-Wan would have ruined his Master’s plans now. But, neither he nor his Master had expected for Komari and Obi-Wan to join forces with the Queen, her handmaidens, and a force of Mandalorians to take the planet back.
Yan wasn’t even sure how they’d gotten word out to the Mandalorians that they required aid. But then, his former apprentice and her apprentice had always been remarkably capable and entirely unorthodox.
He had tried to caution Komari against maintaining the friendship she had built with Jango Fett ten years ago on Galidraan, but she had retained it regardless. Had done worse and encouraged an impressionable young Obi-Wan’s own friendships with the two Mandalorians he had saved on that Galidraan battlefield.
The fruits of that relationship had borne out now. Naboo relieved from their blockade before his Master could use the circumstance to gain the power he desired and his Master’s more brutish apprentice—Darth Maul—captured and contained.
“A credit to your lineage,” his Master repeated, disgust cool beneath the words. “There will be consequences to this setback, Tyrannous.”
“I understand,” Yan said evenly. He steeled his heart. He knew what this would require
He had lost Komari fifteen years ago, when she had arrived in his quarters with an eight year old initiate with wide, guileless eyes. It had been a gradual loss. That his new Master sought to make it permanent… Yan had made his choice.
But perhaps…
Yan did not allow his new Master to see the small kernel of hope that burned in his chest that maybe his former apprentice would subvert his expectations in this, just as she had in everything else since that day fifteen years ago.

Idk if/what you’re open to writing right now, but can you possibly write something focused on pippin? Maybe fluff or headcannons or oneshots, whatever you want. I’ll put my trust in a fellow pippin girlie 😉❤️
Ahhh I definitely was not when this very first rolled in but barring any more grievous wounds I am always down to write about my beloved 😌
Pie in the Sky- Pippin x F!Hobbit!Reader
Tumblr media
(Gif by @lotrcolors! Didn’t see rules about not using them but will take down if they prefer!)
Perfect dough never fails to put a smile on your face. Sticky as it is, even the feeling of it beneath your hands as you knead it is pleasing. Flames to your left tell you the oven is more than ready to receive its eventual bounty. A few rolls beneath your pin and there you have it, a beautiful drape on the tin before the real treasure is stowed away. Twirling in your flighty joy, you turn for the stove, taking up your pot of wonderful sparkling scarlet raspberry filling. Pouring it in, you see you’ve made a bit extra- muffins might just be in your future, too! Last step is cutting the lattice and then your oven is finally presented its trophy.
You already pulled out the right size hourglass when you got your start, so all there is to it is giving it a flip and you’ve got a little time for inventory.
The fishers had a wonderful haul: bright, shiny salmon you had filleted earlier in the afternoon, leaving only the need to coat them in lemon juice and seasoning. Potatoes as well, potatoes fresh as the salmon, though they are to be fried into chips, not grilled. A plate of roasted zucchini and carrot to say you’re getting your vegetables in. Not to mention the pie.
Every voice in your head had told you to just make enough for yourself, but having a visitor is likely enough, is it not? May as well make a bit extra, you think as you reach for a tin of dill weed.
~
Foolhardy, they say. Foolish indeed to leave a pie cooling upon the sill of your hole’s window lest some rapscallion make short work of it. But what is life without a little chance, you ponder as you check up on your treat, glancing out to the passing road…
“Well, that is about as fine a pie as I’ve ever seen! What’s the occasion?”
Peregrin Took. Pippin, just about the whole Shire calls him. Sprightly, smiling, and green-eyed, the young hobbit comes from quite the family. He is the only one you know of so well, though. Oft is he seen alongside his cousin Merry, particularly for goers of the Green Dragon. You are not quite in that guild, though it has been tempting enough of late.
“No occasion, really,” you reply with a smile, glancing up at Pippin through your lashes, “to be honest, I just felt like it.”
“I can see why," he muses, tone dreamy.
"I made extra. Care to join me for supper?" Leaning further upon your sill, you rest your chin upon your hand.
"If you insist," he answers quickly, "then who am I to say no?"
He slips around the remaining perimeter of your yard, disappearing from your view until you hear a knock at your door. At once you abandon your pie, crossing through your kitchen and hall to open it.
"Well, hello there," Pippin jokes with a wide smile, arms outstretched and heels rocking, "fancy meeting you here!"
"Master Took," you play along, waving him in, "what a pleasant surprise! Please, come in."
Hands running over his shoulders faintly, you help him out of his coat, taking notice of how eager he is to strip himself of the extra layers, unwinding the scarf in record speed and glancing around the entry of your home.
"The kitchen is this way," you wave a hand, "Shall we?"
You take the way he practically trips over his feet on the freshly polished floorboards going forward as a yes, holding out a quick hand to steady him, thinking better of it, withdrawing shyly. Leading him to the dining table, you sit him down at the head of it and make for the kitchen to procure all your supper fixings. One by one you set down steaming platters, Pippin's eyes tracking your every movement before landing on the offerings themselves. You hear his stomach rumble as the smell of the first platter of chips fills the room, say nothing but smile and simply compound the feast until his eyes are wide as saucers.
Master Peregrin Took had caught your eye some time ago, from what day you cannot even say, but at that moment and beyond his wide, wonderful smile and lovely singing voice permeate the back of your mind far too often. Often enough, in fact, that you've taken up the peculiar little habit that finally serves you so well, making far more of anything than you need lest you ever are gifted the luck of the Shire's jolliest soul at your door. And as he sits before you, so close your arms brush as they reach for cups and utensils, engrossed in sharing a story his cousin's gardener told him about the Proudfeet's pumpkins, all you can feel is a glow of warmth and satisfaction.
~
"Mmm," Pippin hums in pleasure between forkfuls, "how did I never know what a good cook you are?"
You shrug, suddenly feeling a little shy. "I suppose I never labelled my creations all too well at any festivals."
"Well, if you keep this up," he teases, "I may just have to keep coming to call."
"Be my guest," you wave a hand and smile widely, eyes remaining upon his, "it isn't often I get company."
You barely trust your ears at his next words. "I can hardly believe that! But I'm more than happy to take up the task."
Wit utterly fails you at that, words lost in the fluttering of butterflies filling your entire being and a smile you cannot have hidden for all the gold in the Shire.
~
Pippin greets you by name this time, leaning into your window with eager familiarity. “You wouldn’t happen to be baking, would you?”
“Why, yes,” you smile back even wider, bending down for a moment to collect proof in the form of a steaming yellow cake before you tease, "if you don't mind waiting for it to cool and get frosted I'd be happy to share. Unless you were just hoping I was busy."
Pippin practically runs around to your gate, bringing yet another smile to your lips as you turn from your cake to the strawberries you'd been slicing.
~
“Excellent party, no?”
Glancing up from your tankard, you see Pippin has slid up to your side, leaning an arm casually upon the edge of the table and giving you that easy smile that makes everything within you flutter. His sandy hair is sprinkled with tossed flower petals and falls about his face, which flickers beneath the lanterns set all about. He’d undone his ever-present scarf, this time letting it hang loosely about either side of his neck and down onto a green velvet waistcoat that brings out those eyes of his.
Nothing else but a smile could have broken across your face at such a sight, joy alongside warmth you can luckily blame upon lanterns and the fires on which spits had been roasting and sheer proximity to all the dancing couples whirling by and other hobbits stopping at the table and idly chatting.
“Just grand,” you reply, only aware in post the surefire dreaminess of your expression, “the music's wonderful, everyone is in such cheer, and the spread is great, too! And now I've got fine company as well!"
"As have I," Pippin replies, glancing away from your gaze, then back to it, "and you are so right about it all. I can't wait to dance the night away! And I've just had about the best cookies of my life!"
You giggle at that, fingers tightening around the wooden mug you held. "Oh yes? And what kind were they?"
"Lavender sugar."
"Ah," your eyes light up, "those would be mine! See what I mean about the labeling? Oh, I'm so glad you liked them!"
Seeing as how it's the sole reason you made anything at all for the birthday of someone's aunt you didn't even know too well.
"Liked them?" He leans closer. "I loved them! But enough of that: how would you care for a dance or five?"
Nothing would have gotten your hands off your tankard with greater haste, its base hitting the red tablecloth at your back faster than he could say "South Farthing".
"I would love that," you tell him, and without a moment's hesitation you are swept up into his arms.
Pippin's hold about your waist is tighter than you'd have expected, but you don't complain a mite at the feeling of his hands on your hips, even the twitch of a finger you'd almost suspect to be the beginnings of roaming if you were any more full of yourself. He goes fast with you, something you hadn't doubted for a moment, and you get a thrill from the way he pulls you in so quickly from a twirl, sending you flying into his chest and caught with his other arm each time. Perhaps you aren't so graceful as some of the other, older or more leisurely pairs out on the open grass, but you know as your bare feet struck the soft ground again and again that you would have it no other way.
~
“Oh, now it’s shortbread?”
You put the hand that isn't holding the basket on your hip, fixing the younger hobbit with a look. “Do you want some or not, Marigold dear?”
"Oh, yes," she replies, golden head bobbing and petite hand reaching to loosen the cloth you've wrapped over the bars, "and I will take one for the old Gaffer, too.”
“Oh, he should enjoy them. It’s my grandmother’s recipe, after all.”
“And who else shall?” Marigold muses, fixing you with a positively catlike smile. “How is my advice about a man’s heart going, then, with Mister Peregrin Took?”
Your easy smile melts into something dreamier, grip on your basket relaxing slightly. “Well, all my baking certainly is bringing us together more.”
“And showing him what a good wife you’ll make him, too. He looked very happy there dancing with you at old Violet’s birthday!”
Before you can stop yourself looking a fool, your smile is widening tenfold. “You think so?”
“Oh,” Marigold waves a hand, “you’re incorrigible! Next time you two dance, just lean in for the kiss!”
“Easy for you to say,” you shoot back, crossing your arms and nearly, but not quite, upsetting your shortbread basket, “I could tell you the same about Tolman Cotton.”
Paling then reddening, Marigold gapes at you and sputters. "Now that is quite different! Tolman is a family friend, after all! If I were to- Why, that friendship might-”
“Uh-huh,” you nod in mock sympathy, a sardonic smile upon your lips, “well, then, perhaps you ought to bake him something. After all, a good friend told me the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach.”
Marigold grins. “Yours, maybe! Tolman cares much more about a good spot of fishing than all that.”
“Then you come over to sit in my kitchen and make him a new lure while I muse over what Pippin’s favorites might be. I’ve some dyed feathers I could spare.”
“From what?” Marigold asks, tilted head and smile incredulous as you make your way down the lane.
That is all Pippin catches of the conversation, but it is more than enough, he reflects with a brief proud smirk that quickly melts into a wide, dreamy grin as he glances down at the pair of chocolate-covered shortbread bars in his hands. Your grandma had some good ideas, but she’d never get his heart beating like you did.
~
It is not the most common occurrence in the world to hear your bell ring, so to say you shot up from your sewing is an understatement. All but tossing the shirt whose sleeve you’re repairing down, you pad across your planks to the door, mouth widening into an ‘o’ at the sight of Pippin at your door, a bunch of daisies in one hand and a basket slung upon the opposite arm. Today he is wearing a lavender vest; you don't think you've ever seen him wear lavender before, but of course it suits him.
“Hi there,” he said your name, voice lowering, “I thought I could maybe…take you on a picnic.”
“Oh!” You exclaim, habitually glancing down at your dress and feeling a hand shoot up to your hair. “Well, I don’t know if I’m picnic ready, but-”
“You’re as beautiful as ever,” he remarks with a shrug and the most casual smile, as if he’d commented upon the balmy state of the weather.
“Well,” you glance down toward your feet and fiddle with the end of your sleeve, one arm shyly across your chest, “how can I say no to that? Of course I will go, then. Do you need anything for your basket, though? I admit I haven’t made much fresh today, but I can always-”
At that, Pippin shakes his head, curls flying about his smiling face. “This one is my mother’s treat. It’s about time I pay you back, after all.”
“Oh, alright. Because I do have a leftover pie in the-”
“Yes, bring that.”
You giggle as Pippin continues. “Don’t you worry, though- my mother’s cooking is almost as good as yours! Just don’t tell her I said that.” Punctuating his joke with a wink, he extends his arm and beaming, you take it.
~
Pippin leads you down to the bank of a stream and spreads out a blanket you hadn’t noticed him carrying before, probably due to being too occupied looking into those sweet green eyes and fluttering your lashes at any affection that potentially swims within them. The ground is soft already beneath the blanket, making it quite easy to settle upon your little spot across from Pippin and his basket. Water babbles tranquilly at your side by your feet, glistening in the spring sunshine.
Your companion offers quite the spread, for on top of your pie there is cold chicken and hard boiled eggs, sandwiches with salted meat and cress, cheese alongside the end of the sandwich loaf, fresh red raspberries, and turnovers.
“I hope this is enough.”
“Are you joking?” Your eyes light up, glancing from Pippin to the array of food to the sunlight filtering through the greenery at the stream’s edge. “This is perfect. All of it.”
"It had to be," he says, "I wanted our courtship to start off right."
Falling suddenly deaf to the chirping of birds and babbling of stream, you looked up from your sandwich with wide eyes, again seeing Pippin smiling at you like he'd made the most natural conclusion in the world, this time before tilting a fistful of raspberries into his mouth. Blinking, you search for words, failing momentarily in favor of just grinning over the way Peregrin Took never fails in his unwitting quest to always surprise you. Heat creeps to your face, heat beyond even the beating of the sun down to your head.
Pippin, it seems, takes your silence as a form of denial. All but dropping the plated slice of pie in his hand, he wipes one set of fingers off on the edge of a napkin before waving both hands hastily back and forth.
"Unless I heard your conversation with Marigold wrong. I just got so excited thinking that we could be everything I'd dreamed of and that what you were doing was working. Not that you needed to do it because I already thought you were the prettiest thing I've ever seen and why am I saying all this?"
"Because you're cute," you gush, heart still flip-flopping at his words, at the way the sunlight dances off the curves of his sheepishly smiling cheeks, "and you're always managing to find new ways to steal my heart."
"Me?" His voice is so quiet it's all but a whisper of joy. "You think I'm... Well, I think you're just sweet as this pie here. No, sweeter. Besides finding new ways to steal your heart, might I find new ways to kiss you?"
"Smooth," you tease, shaking your head playfully, gleefully, "you might indeed."
If Pippin is thinking anything you made was sweet, not a single delight you could have whipped up in your kitchen stands a chance against the feeling of his lips on yours, dancing lightly against them in the springtime breeze.

Heyo [:
Love your work! I was wondering if you could write some headcanons on Professor Fig? (and maybe Miriam?)
A/N: do I have headcanons? OF COURSE I DO, LETS GO!
ELEAZAR AND MIRIAM FIG HC
Eleazar was sorted to Gryffindor, Miriam was Ravenclaw
Eleazar was a daring-do troublemaker, he'd push the limits of the rules and constantly explore beyond the bounds of Hogwarts. He was eager for adventure and full of wanderlust.
Miriam was a popular, sweet, clever girl with a sharp mind and a soft voice. She was a high academic achiever from day one and set her ambitions high into researching mysterious or forgotten forms of magic. The unknown fascinated her.
Their first real interaction was in fourth year when Eleazar was running for his life from the prefects. He rounded a corner, nearly ran into Miriam, dove behind a tapestry, and pleaded with her to not say anything.
When the prefects came around, she gestured down the hallway and they kept running. She found the whole situation amusing. Eleazar came out of his hiding spot, out of breath, and said he owed her one. She said she'd hold him to that.
Eleazar used this excuse to seek her out. Rules about interactions between boys and girls were much stricter in his time and he found the thrill of pursuing her, even in a friendly way, exciting.
Miriam found him charming, in a rapscallion sort of way. While she was more bound to the rules of the school than he was, she couldn't help find his excitement infectious.
Their first date was in their 6th year. It started with a traditional butterbeer in the three broomsticks, and ended with a sunset stroll along the edge of the forbidden forest. There was a perfect overlook of Hogwarts.
Miriam showed her own daring when she was the first to kiss him.
Eleazar was a goner from that day forward. He wanted this girl to be in his life for the rest of his days. He was head over heels in love with her.
Miriam was so happy she found someone at Hogwarts she could share passion with after graduation. She could get marriage out of the way so her family doesn't bother her over it and then she could focus on her research with the love of her life by her side.
Eleazar was tempted to elope with her, but Miriam wanted a proper ceremony.
They got married the summer after graduation. A modest wedding, with just some friends and family, but it was their perfect day.
After Hogwarts, Miriam had graduated with such high marks that she was granted funding for her research into Ancient Magic by the Department of Mysteries.
Eleazar traveled alongside her on the adventure of a lifetime. They saw the world together. Saw so many amazing places, met so many amazing people and creatures and beasts.
They mutually decided to not have children. Between their travels and research, children just weren't part of the plan.
As the years went on, Miriam's research, no matter how thorough she had been over, the decades, was starting to seem impossible to complete. She felt so close to the truth, but answers seemed just out of reach.
Eleazar's wanderlust had been satiated by the time he was in his 60s and applied to be a professor of magic theory at Hogwarts.
Miriam didn't travel far from Scotland after Eleazar got the teaching job, but she couldn't stop her search now if she wanted to.
Miriam was at Rookwood castle in the spring of 1890 where she met a goblin by the name of Lodgok. She had met many a goblin in her travels and welcomed him warmly. She even offered him tea.
Unfortunately, the next goblin she met was not as accepting of her kindness. Ranrok killed her without mercy. She didn't even have a chance to raise her wand.
The news of Miriam's death made Eleazar feel as though his soul had been torn in two. His soulmate was taken. The love of his life.
He barely had time to grieve before the headmaster sent him an owl about him having to mentor a student being admitted late to Hogwarts.
Throughout the summer as he teaches MC the basics, he puts on a polite mask while he interacts with them but cries himself to sleep every night.
He would never burden a child with his pain.
When it's discovered that MC can see and interact with traces of ancient Magic, the very magic Miriam spent her whole life pursuing, it's like he suddenly has air in his lungs again.
Over the school year, Eleazar becomes attached to MC like they were his own. He feels protective of them as the ancient magic business becomes more and more harrowing, leading to a final confrontation with Ranrok.
He sticks to MC like glue through the cavern underneath Hogwarts. He's going to get them through as much of the goblin army as he can so they can get to Ranrok. They were the only one capable of stopping such a monster.
When the cliff collapses, and they're separated for the final battle, He uses all of his strength to get back to them. He's barely alive when he sees them again, the dark magic from Ranrok swirling around MC like a storm.
He tries to keep the earth supporting Hogwarts steady as MC attempts to contain the dark magic.
"You're stronger than you know."
He doesn't know if MC even heard him over the deafening crumbling of stone and angry magic flying through the air.
When it's all over, and the magic is contained, he feels the sort of relief wash over him like he can finally rest. Looking up through the soft blue glow of the repository, he swears he sees a familiar figure just beyond, beckoning him.
"Miriam..." He feels her wand in his hands again. MC holding it to his chest.
"Miriam would have loved you, MC. The wizarding world couldn't be in more capable hands."
The light in his eyes fades. He exhales his final breath.
He embraces Miriam. Peace.

My Cousin, in the Addams Tradition
When you review Addams Family genealogy, it is… a mess. Sometimes Fester is Gomez’s brother, other time Morticia’s. Grand-mama similarly bounces around.
Cousins and uncles and aunts are all mentioned frequently, rarely making an onscreen appearance, always having influence on one of the world’s foremost goth families.
Are we sure, truly, that these extended branches to the family tree are rooted in blood? For that matter, why would they need to be?
Found Family is an incredible trope — in fiction as well as real life — and the Addams assuredly participate.
I would wager even that to be an “Addams” is more of a self selected title! In a family that regales in villainy, tomfoolery, and rapscallion-olotry, there is simply no way they would seek blood tests to prove lineage.
Seek blood? Yes of course, but not to prove you belong. You belong, you’re family, you’re loved, you’re wanted (for crimes and charges to be disclosed later.)
I have begun introducing friends as “This is my cousin, in the Addams tradition.” I’ve begun writing “Cousin” next to their names on envelopes for cards.
Are you thus an Addams as well, my fellow?
Shall we dance?
Here in the moonlight, here in the graveyard?

what are your opinions on Rav 👀 (i’m so normal about him)
Trust me when I say this, I love Rav.
It was a bit of a phase with him but for a while I was going crazy about him. He was my favorite SPG lore character. He’s just so cool!
I love his song how it reveals that even though he’s a hero he’s not exactly careful about it so to speak. Seeking up amnesty. You must be real popular Rav aren’t you? /s /silly
Bunny’s description of him only further pushes his “rapscallion-esque” attitude. Not the best way for me to describe him but you see what I mean right?
He’s been working alongside Commander Cosmo for years, helping him discover his powers as an immortal space god. Commander Cosmo’s actually the REASON why his ship is so high-tech, so you know they’re close. Especially bc you know, Rav was the only one up to the task of blowing up the star he was trapped in.
Bunny phrased something in a way that made it seem like they could’ve been a thing, but Commander Cosmo is too cold and unreceptive and also too infatuated with Cosmica for Rav.
Regardless Rav does get around with other guys. Particularly moon princes. Could be poly too. Bunny mentioned that it would make sense, but it was one of her more “If you want to headcanon it, I won’t confirm nor deny” answers. She did that a lot. Major example saying “it’s possible” for Peter Walter VI to be autistic and also headcanoning her own characters.
She also said we can be expecting more of Rav and his crew in the future which is real nice!

Hi!! Adding on, just a few npcs and stuff, anything that's easier for you, as we don't want to stress you out :3
a stunning, absolutely marvelous idea you have here, anon :] hope you like these goofy little guys! might come back n add some more to them later after i sleep, haha —🤍 (🌳)
Mandy Isobel Graves
What’re YOU looking at? Huh? If the answer was Mandy, then good luck babe! Mandy is an attitude-filled “almost adult” (her words, not mine) who deals with her problems by avoiding the fuck out of them. People who annoy her or try to hit on her get clapped back on and shut down right away. Nobody is gonna touch this until she’s sure they can handle it! She works at the diner part-time as a way of earning income to keep up her addiction. What kind of addiction, you ask? Stuffed animals. Very cute, very small, very fluffy stuffed animals. If you tell anyone else about this, then… Well, technically, she can’t do much of anything about it. But she’ll pout at you and will refuse to serve your food to your table at the diner. So there! She is a lesbian through and through — so don’t try hitting on her if you’re a guy. That won’t end well. Mandy lives with her parents in Suburbia, Katherine and Edward Graves, along with their dog Jett. And yes, he’s named after Jett from ATLA.
Good with: Diner patrons, teens around her age (particularly women)
Bad with: Authority figures, older men, children (2-10). She doesn’t like kids nor does she know how to deal with them. Sorry, Charlie.

Craig Cummings
This is Craig Cummings, local police officer and resident boxer of the town living in apartment 205. He may not look like it, but he’s actually new to this place, having only shown up about two months ago. His ex-wife left him over a squabble about their income (Craig was still in training at the time) and took their unborn child with her. Craig is pretty beat up about the whole ordeal, but honestly, he’s getting better now that he’s moved to a new location. You might catch Craig in the bakery while on duty or in the diner later at night chowing down on a big meaty burger. He can be a bit hard to talk to at first, but he’s got his heart in the right place: the good of the people comes first in his mind. Now all that’s left is to find a few new buddies, some craft beer, and get over this hump in his life. Fingers crossed it all goes well.
Good with: Older men (20-50), teenagers, old people, and other folks like himself
Bad with: Women around his age (he is bad at flirting), “those kids nowadays” aka gen alpha, chronically online people

Ethel McClellan
Ethel is an older woman with a big heart who lives in apartment 116 with her husband Barney. Her apartment matches the woman herself: homey and comfortable with a whole lot of knitted things that are obviously handmade. She is the kind of woman who will invite new faces into her home for tea despite not knowing them in the slightest. Her husband doesn’t mind one bit either. Both of them are starved for company due to the fact their children never want to visit. A real shame, that. Ethel’s views lean more to being conservative in nature, but she has enough common sense to tell when things are simply not right the way that they are. For some reason, the local stray cats flock to her windowsill during the afternoons. It might be because of Ethel feeding them sardines all the time… but she claims it’s “a little gift from the Good Lord himself”. (Barney disagrees, but doesn’t say a word.) Her evenings are spent knitting and watching the game with her dear husband. A rack of spare teacups sit on her kitchen counter waiting to be filled… Maybe you’ll be her next visitor?
Good with: Children (5-11), “youngins” (20s-30s), older folk (40-60+)
Bad with: Pretty much no one unless they’re a “gosh darn rapscallion” or “troublemaker”

Unlike what fans say,Luz is a really bad main protagonist in my opinion.I hate her.
I will continue to say that Luz is a plenty fine enough protagonist for a season and a half. She isn't anything special and the theoretical quirks of her character are rarely shown (her past bullying in the form of social anxiety, struggling to make friends, etc. like that have TWO moments in a SEASON AND A HALF. And no, I don't count her introduction due to what she's doing in that montage.) She is plenty likable though, enough of a rapscallion to get into trouble and her heart ends up in the right place by the end of most episodes. She INCREDIBLY generic for her genre but being generic is not the same as being bad or boring. The same protagonist gets used over and over again for isekais for a reason. Their lack of arc or real, hardline character motives allow for easier exploration of the world and of the other characters, allowing the other world they end up in to be more the main character than them.
There's a reason why I've called her a protagonist of all time.
But I do want to say that the show REALLY feels like it feels the need to justify teenage shenanigans and avoid making Luz look like a bad person. A lot of S1 episodes, even the ones explicitly about Luz needing to learn a lesson, barely make her in the wrong. She's wrong in the second episode because someone's lying to her. Two different episodes have her being peer pressured into doing something for Gus and Willow that causes problems. She isn't willing to instigate problems between her and Amity besides Adventure in the Elements and Teenage Abomination. The latter isn't even portrayed as her being wrong but her putting a bully in their place while happening to also get access to the witch school she wants.
But if you've been following this blog for a while, you know I consider Luz eventually to be just a bad person and that Yesterday's Lie is the turning point for it. That's because unlike almost ANY other show like it, TOH doesn't understand the difference between shenanigans and genuinely terrible actions.
Wanting to make your friends happy by using the fact that you're home alone? Shenanigans. Ignoring your significant other's direct pain in front of you for your own selfish needs? Bad. Borrowing Owlbert so you and your friends can see the game after you made them miss it? Shenanigans and trying to fix a mistake. CONSTANTLY LYING ABOUT EVERYTHING!? Bad and not fun for the audience.
That's the thing that makes Anne genuinely enjoyable to watch. You can tell she is commonly a good person but, well... We all have days when we don't want to work. We are all capable of having preconceptions of others. Playing around and breaking things is a part of youth. And she is CONSTANTLY learning from all of this stuff that in the end doesn't really hurt anyone, except herself sometimes frankly, and she always makes it right.
This final part is REALLY what condemns Luz eventually. The show starts bending backwards to justify her doing terrible things to other people, like lying to her friends about helping them save the Isles when she has no intention to go with them. And she's not learning from these things. She LITERALLY never has an episode where it ends with "You're right. I'm going to stop lying because that hurts people" despite it being such a large part of her character for the last half of the show. Instead, "All I wanted was to be understood" is the only part of her arc that is resolved and that had NOTHING to do with why she was suddenly a liar and hating herself because the show refused to have ANYONE treat her poorly for who she was.
Fucking Sprig and Anne's episode about being roommates does more for the characters genuinely chafing against each other and having to understand their differences than... Pretty much all of TOH with Luz? Like early Eda gives Luz shit but it never goes anywhere. The only time it does is when Eda says Luz is weak which isn't misunderstanding Luz, it's worrying about her in S2 because it's an EVIL EMPEROR they're again and in S1 it's just a reasonable assumption of her capabilities because she isn't trained, she barely has magic and she hasn't been shown particularly brave (though also not unreasonably a coward which is a weakness of that part of Grom).
It kind of frankly leads to Luz being more interesting conceptually than she ever is in execution. And for a kid's show protagonist, she really drops the ball because she so rarely needs to properly learn something, or does it in a way that will keep kids engaged, that what are kids getting from her? I have an eight year old nephew and while he did see the whole show, apparently his mom tells me that he found it boring for much of S2 and kept wondering why people were friends with Luz because she was mean and everyone seemed sad around her.
And that's the target audience in theory. That... To me that says Luz failed as a protagonist maybe more than the rest of the words I've dedicated to this. (Side note: He LOVED Amphibia and was deeply invested in Anne and Sasha. Also, my sister says that she could tell his behavior got BETTER after watching Amphibia, even if it maybe didn't always stick for good. So.... Yeah...)

I tried fucking with AI generation in Bing just to make the Oz Squad and here's what happened.
Tumblr media
Ozymandias. Tried versions with giving her yellow hair but it looked Bad. It just made an awkward Karen-esque haircut on a little girl. All versions ended up making her look much younger than she really is. It's hard to describe the exact shape of her face in AI, so she ended up looking pretty generic. She consistently resembled the protagonist kid from "Home".
Tumblr media
Liadan. Finer details got missed pretty hard (unsurprisingly) and it couldn't seem to decide what to do with her spine in a lot of generations. As with Ozy, all the images made her look rather young. Overall not terrible, but lacking the details that make her design distinct, especially the shape and length of her hair.
Tumblr media
Su. Her features are pretty typical of a cute little round faced kid with brightly colored hair, so there isn't much to miss in her design. Fairly spot-on. I actually really liked the details in the stripes on her sweater, and I had been looking for ways to add some more detail to Su's design. I might actually borrow that element and incorporate it.
Tumblr media
Rapscallion. Results were pretty mixed, but to my surprise, she was consistently fat and had a square-shaped face, and she consistently looked older. This one is unique in that this AI generation actually helped me to decide on *what* particular shade I would want to make her hair most times. While it would be in character for Raps to shift the color of her hair at her fancy, before I had it as a hydrangea blue. I like this faded teal, emerald green color better, and this is a detail I want to keep.
And finally---
Tumblr media
Unsurprisingly, Svanhilda had NO good results. I tried so hard to give her dark skin. Even when I described her has "a black woman" in the prompt, it threw white skinned results at me. Most results were too feminine, too pale, didn't lean heavily enough into the scales, and in general were just a very solid indicator for why AI generated art is a very poor stand-in for a human artist/character designer. Svanhilda again suffers from looking too damn young--she's actually supposed to be the oldest one in the group, and not in the way of 'being half-dragon means you age slower', either.
in conclusion...
AI generation is a useful tool for finding some semblance of shape for your ideas--and on occassion, if can surprise you with a few touches you might not have ever thought of on your own--but it's no way to make finished art, and it's certainly no way to maintain stylistic consistency between different images. Fun to fuck around with, but ultimately it's a novelty. And like...no shit.
Bonus AI generated Trawler, which again is pretty cool but will probably never replicate the real design I have for them.

Truthspeaker and Physalis - 1, 5, 13, 17, 25
1. Truth - Her entire dragonethood, if she could. Although she has already blocked out most of the memories, the trauma is still there. Phys - Nothing bad has really happened to him to be honest. Probably the day he discovered he was an animus, it was a pretty chaotic event and he'd rather have just known his whole life.
5. Truth - Not far at all, not if it involves breaking any law or other kind of rule. But she's certainly not a push-over, don't get that wrong. She knows how to handle things on her own. Phys - He's a little devious. A bit of a rascal, some would even say. He and Star are the "those darn teenagers" of their town, you get me? Petty thieves. Rapscallions. He's willing to be just a bit mischievous to get what he wants, but he'd never do anything serious.
13. Truth - It's hard to say. As much as I love her as a character, I honestly have no idea how I'd like her as a real person. She's very much a mixed bag. Phys - Same with Phys to be honest. While for the most part he's kind of subconsciously based off of friends I've had in the past, his carefree happy-go-lucky attitude I can't stand lmao.
17. Truth - Living with an abusive parent for six years of her life, up until she ran away and went to live at Jade Mountain. Now that she's an adult though she gets to live a happy life travelling Pyrrhia with her partners :] Phys - Again, nothing bad has ever really happened to him. I suppose being abandoned by your parent and handed over to be raised by a stranger would be pretty awful, but he was just an egg when that all happened.
25. Truth - Her weird speech! All of her strange mannerisms and characteristics, everything that makes her her, really. I adore how weird she is, and how everyone she knows is accepting of that. Phys - His silly little guy attitude. He's such a rascal. I want to examine him under a microscope.

Have you ever read a book that is both amazing and terrible in its presentation that you both have to finish it and yet at the same time wish it would just end?
No? Well let me introduce you to Paradise-1, a story unlike any I've read before.
For the record, I am not, nor have I ever been a professional reviewer. I am simply a man with a strong taste for good Sci Fi and horror. You want professional opinions, ask someone else. Now with that out of the way:
The Premise: Two ostracized individuals, a pilot with a chip on his shoulder, and a rapscalious robot named... wait for it... rapscallion embark on a mission to Paradise-1, a colony that has gone dark for some strange reason. What follows is a tale of horror as the crew struggle to complete their mission against an impossible enemy and a question that no one can seem to answer: how does one fight an idea?
If you like what I've read so far, feel free to pick up the book, because from here on out there be spoilers.
Now, for the good: The ideas this book presents in terms of an 'other' are absolutely unique and phenomenal. Rather than a simple zombie virus, the entity known simply as "The Basalisk" takes on the form of an idea. But never the same idea twice. Which makes each encounter unique in how it is portrayed. "You are hungry. You are unclean. You cannot be in the light." All of these ideas are fascinating and create unique hurdles to be overcome. The fact that the A.I. of this world can also be infected gives the Basalisk an extra level of danger and depth not normally seen in these types of books. At one point in time the A.I. literally makes a mouth out of discarded pieces of metal in an attempt to eat one of the Protagonists. Everything feels real and lived in within the confines of the story, and the craziness of the Basalisk means you can never quite be sure what new horror will leap out from each new ship. Because it's not just one area, but four different ships the protagonists go to in an attempt to understand their new foe. I felt a real sense of curiosity trying to understand what this thing was even as it showed how dangerous ans uncaring it felt in destroying the humans that had come to the planet. If only the dialog could keep pace with the story...
The bad: This story feels like it was written by two different people. The first is the world builder, who sets everything up in a believable way. From the ships, to the technology, to the way a person undergoing the Basalisk thinks and feels. It all feels quite alive and believable. Some of the details of the scenes can be a little off, but I never felt truly confused as to where I was. The same, could not be said sadly, for character interactions and ideas. So many times the book has the characters say what is needed to move the plot to the next point along, but without any consideration if someone would actually say that. For example, during one scene near the end of the story, a character has another in a standoff of sorts. Upon seeing she is outnumbered, the character mutters the word "Shit" and runs. Now in a book full of over the top swearing and violence, this line would feel natural. But this character has been portrayed as sinister and composed, not prone to outbursts such as these. This feels like something someone would write just to move the scene. Which brings me to my next point: the chapters are short. Now when I say short, I don't mean five pages. I mean like two. Sometimes not even that. And with each chapter, almost always there is a perspective shift to one of the four characters. This results in such whiplash in both tone, voice, and scene that I often found my head hurting and the characters hadn't even left the room from the previous scenes. It feels like it wants to be a fast paced edge of your seat thrill ride... with the slow methodical style of a well paced horror movie. The two styles do not fit as intended, causing headaches for this reader if nothing else.
The middle: The characters themselves are a mixed bag to be quite honest. The main focus character of Petrova is not necessarily an interesting character beyond her interactions with and eventual desire to move away from her mother, this being of legendary status in Firewatch, the settings version of space cops. She makes rash decisions with no real thought and can be frustrating to root for even as she comes into her own. That said, the second main focus, Dr. Zeing, does have a bit more to work with. Having encountered the Basalisk before, he has the unique role of being the only one who knows the danger they are all facing. But he remains the same throughout the book, never taking charge or working past his previous trauma. He is the same as he was when he first left for Paradise 1 as when he crashes on its surface.
Verdict: I think this is a story worth reading, seeing just how something like a thought can eat a person from the inside out. And despite my criticisms, I am actually looking forward to next book, if for no other reason then to see the plot continue dragging its characters behind it at a breakneck speed.

Things I Think About, Vol. 56
Because I love y’all, a silly little bonus one that was always worth doing. Surprised we didn’t get it before. Something that’d be a lot more fun to check if this pet theory ends up surprising us all but either way we have enough to go on. Kiku’s one of the ones who met the entire Straw Hat crew, spent a lot of time with them. What did she think?
Luffy - Funny one. Same love for the goofy charmer and his antics...but also because of the fun quirks of their story together probably sees him as way more mature than most. The one person who might actually describe that rapscallion as well-mannered.
Zoro - Skilled, but rather rude.
Nami - It’d be a shame if we didn’t get more of this one because it has the most potential. The bath scene was really cool, it implies a fair amount of trust was there already and Nami not caring would naturally be meaningful. But...she’s Nojiko’s age and the little bit we see of Shinobu/Kiku tracks too. These two spend much time together it’ll inevitably end up looking like female Zoro/Sanji. Catty, sisterly bond complete with that “Only I get to mess with her” vibe. (Robin can, but chooses not to because it’s funny)
Usopp - Poor girl. Brother Izo vouched for him. She’d be more gullible than Chopper. It might reach critical mass and actually leave Usopp feeling a little guilty about his shameless lies.
Sanji - Another one with a lot of potential, 1000x better if you let Sanji be the butt of the joke over her. If you even need to. Like, being real for a sec would Sanji even care in a case like this? Always felt it could go either way, or just dodge the question. Or...the best way. Fucking with him. What I wouldn’t give for a scene of Sanji going gaga over some local lady, only for Kiku to run him down acting like a jealous girlfriend just to get him back on track. Or an old Honjo joke, teasing young Yahiko that if he tried really hard, “you could grow up just like me.”
Chopper - This is just canon. What a lil cutie. Girls like cute things. Would like to knit silly costumes because Kiku’s lowkey a lil weird, but exercises restraint because that territory is claimed by...
Robin - Looks up to her, but this is an easy trap. It wouldn’t be like Toki or Tsuru, they’re more different personalities than it looks on the surface. Two takes on the same struggle. Robin’s the wallflower, Kiku the people pleaser. One’s quiet and cool on the outside but has a way weirder thought process than anyone would guess, the other melodramatic and cutesy because she’s actually pretty intense & high strung.
Franky - Obviously more -_- than *_*. Given. But there’s a respect there, he does give off major Oden energy. The one of the gang that will never fall for the little miss innocent act.
Brook - “This one has so many questions, but it’d be rude to ask.”
Jinbei - Friend shape detected. Shark Daddy is basically what I’d imagine Kawamatsu’s dad being like. Even though I think they’re about the same age now. Though the reason her and Matsu probably get along doesn’t apply. Earnestly believes the “new guy har har” jokes because that track with what she knows. I always thought a cool scene for end of Wano would have been Jinbei making good on that by putting his foot in his mouth with Kawamatsu.

Tumblr media
Media The Queens Gambit
Character Benny Watts
Couple Benny X Reader
Rating Sweet AF
Halloween Day 13
I smiled as I opened the door to the bedroom and jumped on the bed giving the thin body a big cuddle and a squeeze
"Good morning benny!"
"Uhhh" he groans "why is your natural body clock six in the goddamn morning!" He complained
"I gave you an extra half an hour" I smiled sitting up a little
"Half an hour is not enough snickerdoodle" he whined trying to bundle the covers around him
"Come on I made you coffee" I smiled turning him to now be on his side
"Coffee is not enough" he sighed
"If you get up now we can make omelettes?"
"Can we?" He asks opening an eye to me
"Ummmm" I nodded
"With toast?"
"Lovely toast"
"Fine" he sighed emerging from the covers "on the condition I receive my good morning kiss?"
"Or course" I smiled giving him a soft little kiss which he happily returned
"Umm. my cute little biscotti" he smiled giving me more kisses
"Come on then days a wasting benny" I smiled heading to the living room
"You remarkably chipper for six thirty am"
"I always am"
"You know I read somewhere getting up early and having high morning energy Is a key sign of a serial killer," he says leaning on the doorframe in his jeans and his kimono
"Awww you'd still love me even if I was a serial killer?"
“Of course, I would.” he smiled holding my hand and pulling me into his chest for a cuddle “Now where is that coffee you promised me?”
“Alright” I smiled going and making him some coffee which he happily accepted taking a few good sips “How would you like your omelette?”
“The usual please”
“Righty Oh” I smiled starting to make breakfast how he liked it and soon enough he came up behind me wrapping his arms around me to nuzzle into my neck “Ohh hello benny”
“What are we up to today?”
“You have that last game to go over, then you have a boat load of mail that needs something doing with it, ohh and Village of the damned is on tonight I thought we could set the television up”
“Sounds lovely” he smiled
After a while of doing our various works for the day often times smiling and blowing little kisses as benny sat at the table dealing with his mail as I sorted through the laundry
“Benny?”
“Yes my little sugar cookie?” he asks having another sip of his coffee
“What are you afraid of?”
“Me? nothing .”
“Liar”
“No, really I’m not afraid of anything”
“Even spiders?”
“I admit I do not have a fondness of spiders but they don’t bother me, can’t when you live in a basement” he explained
“Ghosts?”
“Ghosts aren’t real my little sweetart” “I think they are”
“Do they scare you then?”
“A little, ghosts can be nice but they have scary potential”
“I suppose, but they aren’t real so there is nothing to be scared of my love”
“What about… ruffians and rapscallions?”
“You have never sounded so upper-class in your life” he laughs “But no. I have my knife so we have nothing to be afraid of”
“What about planes, you don’t like planes”
“I don’t like planes not because I’m afraid of them, simply because the idea of spending so much money to get a cardboard seat squished like a sardine with businessmen and drunk women seems utterly stupid to me. I shall fly when I absolutely have to.”
“You must be scared of something benny”
“I am not. I have no fears. I am a very confident person”
“Overconfident” I smiled “which is often a sign of stupidity”
“If you say so my love. What are you afraid of?”
“Humm?”
“What's my little sugar cookie afraid off?”
“Ohh goddess. Lots of things”
“Like?”
“Spiders. Birds. Tigers. Bears. Wolves. Fire. snow. Planes. Motorbikes. Ghosts. Werewolves. Vampires. Dolls. Clowns. The dark. Tight spaces. Too large and open spaces. Manakins. Heights. Death” I explained
“There anything you aren’t afraid off?”
“Chess”
“I should hope not living with me” He chuckled “That all?”
“I guess”
“Funny little thing you are” he smiled
“Benny?” I pondered after a while
“Yes? My little marcon?”
“What is your greatest fear?”
“I always told you-”
“I know, but everyone had a greatesat fear benny. Something that worry always above all else”
“I don’t
“Don’t you?”
“No.” He chuckled “I’m assuming you do”
“I do”
“Well, whats your greatest fear then?”
“Withering.”
“Withering?”
“Ummm”
“Explain.”
“I suppose in a way aging, aging frightens me. The montomus endless march forward of time. Can’t do anything to slow it. Or to change it. My death is inveviable that I understand. But I fear truely above all these. Decay. The slow breakdown of my body, my mind. To be left in a chair unable to move or speak. A lifeless husk of what I once was. And also withering in the sense of… well”
“What?”
“A lady only has so many chances in life benny”
“At what?”
“At… having a baby. Being a mother. You know thats my dream above all else”
“I know, and I’ve told you I’m working on it” he smirked winking at me
“You know what I mean. To watch myself wither would kill me. Esspecialy without a little life to care for”
“Understandable”
“I want to be a mother. And My greatest fear is to wither a way with nothing to show for it.”
“Darling, you have so much to show for your life already, you’re a published author, three time new york city chess champion. You’ve been across the america. To paris. London. Moscow. You can’t say your life has nothing to show for it y/n” he explained “Besides. Your going to marry me? I mean. We’ll make the cover of chess review minimum”
“I know, but still meaning of life to pass on, your genetics, your knowledge.”
“I promise you have nothing to worry about” he says
“What about you?”
“Well. never becoming a grandmaster.” he shrugs
“That all?”
“I imagine thats my only fear”
“Alright Benny” I smiled
I sat in bed against the headboard the little tv on the dresser at the end of the bed playing the village of the dammned even if the sound was on fairly low, y/n’s head nuzzled into my chest as usual when we watched a movie but she was fast asleep and had been for a good few minutes. Ever so often I would stroke and kiss her hair t keep her smiling in her sleep.
“Would you like to know the truth?” I whispered into her hair but of course no response “I am afraid. Of alot of things. Of failure. Of being alone. That one day you’ll be sick of my chess focus and lack of attention and you’ll leave me. That I am as good at chess as I can possibly get and that I’ll never be more than a US champion. That someone newer, smarter, handsomer will come along and I won’t win tournaments anymore, then how will I be able to afford to keep a roof over your head or provide for our little family, that there might be something wrong with me meaning we couldn’t ever have a family. Or possible the worst fear of all… that I could lose you. And our family. You could all leave me as instantly as you arrived. And that frightens me. Above all else in this world.” I explained “My greatest fear is losing you, of losing the life we have or could have together. That we’ll never have children. Never have the life we dream of” I told her giving her some kisses “I love you very much my little chocolate chip cookie”

Ub Iwerks and Walt Disney’s “Steamboat Willie” (1928)

Tumblr media
1) Technique section:
How was it made?
This film featured tightly synchronized music and sound effects to traditional animation. The sounds were recorded at Cinephone studios in New York, using Pat Power’s Cinephone system (closely based on the Phonofilm). This was not the first cartoon to be synchronized with sound, “but it was the first to attract favorable attention”.
How was it captured?
The dialogue, sound effects, and music had to be recorded all on one track. Any unwanted sounds or mistakes would mean that the whole track would have to be recorded again from the start.  The score was conducted by Carl Edouarde, and the orchestra had to play to visual cues inked onto the cartoon’s print, to play on beat. To finance the whole recording process, Disney had to sell his car in order to pay the musicians.
What materials were used?
Disney and a small staff used public domain tunes and sound effects, and kept the timing with the use of a metronome and markings on film, to develop the soundtrack. This score was then recorded in New York with a small orchestra and a theater conductor. Before the soundtrack was produced, there was also a screening to test the accompaniment of sound to the film, shown to the Disney employees and their wives. The team used a mouth organ, pots and pans, slide whistles, and spittoons to produce the sounds.
2) Representation section:
What is the short about?
The short is about Mickey who is the first mate to captain Pete, on a steamboat. Mickey likes to goof off a bit and slacks off to have fun, but Pete does not tolerate this, and constantly reminds Mickey of the chores and duties he must fulfill aboard the boat. Minnie later boards the steamboat, but her ukulele and sheet music are eaten up by a goat on the boat. However, this does not faze the two mice, as they crank the goat’s tail like a phonograph, and the tune “Turkey in the Straw” begins to play from the goat’s mouth. Mickey begins using the different objects and even the livestock on the boat as instruments, to play along to the song, but captain Pete catches him goofing off again, and thus sets him off to work to peel potatoes.
Who does it depict?
This film depicts the main characters: Mickey, Minnie, and Pete.
3) Reception section:
How was it shown?
It was first shown in 1928 at Universal's Colony Theatre, now called The Broadway Theatre,  in New York. It was said to have generated a lot of laughter from the audience in the theatre.
How did you see it?
It was a funny, cute and silly film, featuring Mickey, who seems like a real rapscallion. Though, I didn’t much care for the parts where he harassed the animals on the boat by playing them like instruments, for the sake of music, like when he swung a cat around in the air by its tail.
What was the response at the time? Now?
The music and sound effects that synced to the animation was hugely successful, and must have amazed and delighted those in the audiences. It was so successful that it led to international fame for Disney and Mickey. Since Steamboat Willie, the film inspired other competitors to not just solely focus on visuals, but to incorporate sound and audio to their productions as well. The only negative response that the film received was the part in the film where Mickey harassed the babies of a nursing sow. It was dubbed inappropriate by television distributors, and in the 1950’s, the scene was removed in later airings of the cartoon. Nowadays, the uncensored versions are accessible online. And while there is still the same negative response, viewers understand that the film was made in the 1920’s and is old-fashioned.
