i think it's a really neat little cultural detail that the water tribe coming-of-age ritual is about teamwork and strategic thinking. like not a lot of the water tribe stuff is super accurate but in my understanding circumpolar indigenous people do tend to put a lot of value on community bc when you live in a harsh climate you gotta be able to trust & work well with the people around you in order to survive. so it's kinda accidental accuracy that they invented a ritual that wasn't just some evaluation of an individual's ability to be a tough warrior but more about trusting other people and thinking your way through problems

The article, "Is a Custom Pistol a Waste of Money?" by Clayton Walker, delves into the value and advantages of purchasing a high-grade, custom-level pistol. Clayton appreciates the quality and precision of custom pistols like the 1911, which feature carefully fitted components and trigger systems that enhance their performance. However, he notes that a top-tier pistol won't necessarily compensate for a novice shooter’s lack of skill. He argues that while modern entry-level pistols offer great accuracy and reliability, custom guns with additional features can enhance shooting performance, allowing shooters to reach their full potential. He acknowledges the appeal of custom pistols’ aesthetics and potential for longevity, making them desirable investments for enthusiasts. Ultimately, Walker suggests that the decision to buy a custom pistol should balance personal value, needs, and the desire for improved shooting accuracy through upgraded equipment.

The crafting plan I had for my pre-vacation weekend:
- finish sewing that REALLY QUICK AND EASY dress I cut out in JULY
- interface that obi I cut out last October and pattern matched in friggin FEBRUARY
Crafting done in pre-vacation weekend:
- pumped 2.5 sticks of hot glue into the trash can lid to McGyver solution until new, more hygienic trash can is sourced, all the while drafting a strongly worded letter to IKEA about creating cavities on the warm, damp side of a trash can.
- tried and failed to spin on the big wheel, but established my 3D printed spool works. Also established one of the the spools my uncle turned for my small wheel is too long to work.
- put 2 skeins of embroidery thread into the stash-busting bag sewing project, bringing the total up to 4 and eliminating all straight pins for now. Might actually be over halfway done with the would-be boro section of this Hedeby bag with glow in the dark handles.
Crafting plan for first week of vacation:
- since the dress and obi should be done, start on that yukata and make a mock up of that summer dress you bought fabric for last May.
- buy fabric for new sauna robe

Okay, I'm working on another Wayne Manor design (which may or may not ever be shared). Trying to make a decision.
Should the library still have it's original, crowded together, 200 year old bookshelves? They've got a robot (designed like some real archives have) that can get books for people who can't navigate between the shelves (Babs), can't read well enough to find a specific title (Cass), or SHOULD NOT BE MOVING BECAUSE OF THEIR STITCHES (everyone).
OR
Should the library have been remodeled so the former librarian can actually navigate it? It would fit less books, and make me, personally, feel less warm and safe, because I love being crowded in by stuff, but ... um, I keep imagining Babs going into the Manor's library for the first time in 2 years, and just ... stopping. Because she was more important than some pretty antiques.
I'm definitely leaning towards one option. But maybe someone has a third option that won't cause me such sadness? Something I haven't thought of?

i wanna rant about some of the setters real quick. so you know how oikawa, atsumu, and kageyama are all shown to use jump top spin (spike) serves? well, there’s a reason for that!!
typically, setters are the first to specialise in their positions, so they’re training and developing setter skills while everyone else is still doing all-around basics. but what happens, as a result of this, is setters end up having weaker arm swings or being awkward with their hand placement in hitting/serving. oikawa, atsumu, and kageyama are the only setters we see using jump top spins that have also been shown to be setting at a young age. i feel like oikawa had a beautiful standing float but had a low ball-back percentage due to how soft it was.
i’m thinking atsumu and kageyama both had weak and awkward arm swings and were taught jump top serves in their last year of middle school so they would have time to perfect the serve. i also think semi experienced this too but either wasn’t able to or didn’t want to perfect the jump top on such short notice, hence why shirabu plays, despite having the firmer hands; he has the better serve.
this also shows us which setters have the best hands!! setters who have weaker serves tend to have the better hands, whereas setters with strong serves usually don’t have as-good hands; it’s all in the wrists.

A post no one will listen to
Hey
Like it's great and all to have background noise, but language processing sometimes just really doesn't work like that I was trying to listen to a video while scrolling here on tumblr and absorbed literally none of it. Drawing, crocheting, knitting, and like, non-language based activities you can do while listening to someone talk but please don't try and write while you're listening to someone talk to you if you wanna absorb the words.
And yeah yeah you can be built different whatever but, maybe give it a shot later and reserve that YouTube video you were gonna put on to learn something for later when you're not writing e-mails for work or writing in general or reading a book. (I might be the only one who needs to know this idk I might be stupid) This also applies to college lectures and classes you will absorb less of the lesson if you are playing a game that requires a lot of reading (any kind dialogue counts) or scrolling on a website and reading. You would learn more if you had an earbud in with music than scrolling tumblr please.)

nothing like a typing test to lift the spirits
#i might still not have the fucking essay half done but i just scored 118wpm qwerty on monkeytype 30 second test with 96%acc#^ btw typing tests r mostly bullshit and theyre not an accurate measure of how fast u type in practice#they often include only common/basic words and lack both punctuation and coherant word patterns#additionally it only measures how quickly you can replicate written word#when i know that personally a lot of the drag on my typing speed is composing sentences in my head or processing audio#like using stenography methods a lot of people reach speeds of 220+wpm (the average speed a person talks)#but even if i learned plover (something i have all the equipment to do but i havent sat down n done yet)#i doubt id be able to become a court stenographer or other such thing bcos of how autism slows down my audio processing#so i would need to attend to That and improve it greatly and i do not know if that is possible#and also like i have no urgent need to transcribe real-time dialogue its just an interest thing#but yknow!#anywho i probs need to practice dvorak more and get good at that before i crack into stenography#last i checked i was like 23wpm without reference if i attempted accuracy (using a typing test with punctuation and sentence structure)#which is like. dogshit. but it wont get better if i dont practice ig#okkkk from now on im going dvorak mode except for schoolwork and im not allowed 2 get mad#ok there we go i switched over yay#i'm both better and worse than i expected#muscle memory is doing so much heavy lifting re: where letters n shit are#but its still a little agonising
