Friend, question, do you know why Couladin yells that Rand "presents himself like a woman"? What has my poor boy done to be hatecrimed so.
oh sure! that was because rand based his method of asking to go to rhuidean on what aviendha did the night before, and not on what clan chiefs are supposed to do to gain permission, because he doesn't know any better.

I did posit the "Maybe the dominance/submission dichotomy is a power level distinction, not a gendered distinction", but I think it was someone else in the tags of my posts pointing out how this could affect Nynaeve's arc~~~ ever since I have come more around to someone else's proposition in the tags, that the gendered divide exists, but becomes blurred and less meaningful the deeper you go into the One Power. They called it "like two opposite margins of a river that meet in the bottom".
Ooooh, that's a neat way of looking at it!
I wanted to find and link to your post about the topic but I wasn't able to find it when I was scrolling through your blog.
Link located (thanks @tatltaelfairies) - https://ace-and-ranty.tumblr.com/post/779823854454538240/no-but-the-implications-of-ran-and-moraines-talk

HI, I heard you like stories with many female characters, and you mentioned Galadriel, and for no other reason whatsoever Im here to tell you about our Lady and Saviour, Galadriel. No, not that one. Her name is Galadriel Higgins. Her hippie mother named her after LotR Galadriel. She is prophesized to be an evil maleficer of destruction, however she is busy being the world's biggest most selfless hero while being violently angry about it the whole time. Have I interested you in this exploration of magic economics and sneaky retelling of Omelas? No? What if you want to cry about female friendship? Selflessness that pays back when we least expect it? A cute rat named Precious? ANYWAY READ A DEADLY EDUCATION, YOU WILL LIKE IT, PLEASE.
interesting!! i have to admit, i remember considering reading this book once but deciding it wasn't for me after reading some goodreads reviews, but maybe i'll give it another thought

I've been putting on Jane Austen novels while doing chores, like a podcast and. The cadence of her novels is SO good por audio booking. It is JUST the right balance between fast enough to engage, and not so fast you miss stuff while you're looking for the soap. RIP Jane Austen you would have loved the audiobook.
I forgot about this ask, sorry, but I did smile at it! It reminded me of an analysis of Pride and Prejudice from, I think, the earlyish 20th century (in Reuben Brower's The Fields of Light) that talks about how the first half of P&P in particular "sounds" like theatre, like it was written to be performed on stage. Of course, P&P itself wasn't literally written for the stage, but to go by Austen's letters, it absolutely was written to be read aloud and I think the consideration of sound and cadence remains present in a lot of her mature work.
Novels at the time were often pretty dense, far more than she ever was, and speech in particular can seem stiff and unnatural to our ears, even accounting for changing norms in how people actually speak. So you really feel the contrast with just how stylish and dynamic Austen's use of language is even when reading other novelists of her era. She wasn't disconnected from her literary moment at all, but there's a reason that even people at the time often saw her work as extraordinary—I really like some of these other authors, but there is a tight control and rigor about Austen's style that I think very few others in her sort of milieu really had.

there's something to be said about how public unawareness about aspec identities contributes to the infighting within the aspec communities.
for example, I've seen a lot of "don't say ace people don't have sex because that's harmful to the sex favourable aces" and the opposite: "don't say ace people can have sex because what about the sex repulsed/averse?"
and they're both valid points, but because of it, aspec posts have to cater to the entire spectrum or risk starting arguments over this. Ideally, people could look at an aspec post and accept that it's for a different part of the aro/ace spectrum to where they are, but that's where the public unawareness comes in
because outside of the aspec communities, there's so little understanding of what the terms mean, that people within the community have to make every post generic so that the unaware won't see one post and make an assumption for the entire community based on it.
I see where every side is coming from, but infighting doesn't really solve any of the issues. The only thing that can start to solve it is more expansive aspec media representation, and spreading the "aro/ace identities are a spectrum" posts as much as possible to reach outside of the community, rather than trying to make specific posts fit that generic message.

wait i'm sorry because. the fact that nimona's own parents believed an evil monster had taken the place of their daughter. the whole town was terrified and handed her over to the Institution to be 'fixed' i.e. tortured and experimented on. the fact that all of this is then contrasted in a single panel with ballister's concern and love 😭😭😭😭
Tumblr media
while her parents left her in this place, ballister went back to save her from it, fearing it could get him killed. it took him a while but he came to see the monster in the girl and the girl in the monster and all of her together as just... a friend. how it's all a metaphor for growing up gay and trans with mental illness in a conservative christian community, and god you're just a child and all you want is for someone not to hate you. to see the real you that you've been told is evil and maybe even love you for who you are. do you guys ever get sick of me talking about this stuff because i really don't!!!!!!!!!!!

I’m gonna throw my first post ever out into the void and see how it goes. The one piece community might eat me alive for this one.
If I have to see one more person say Sabo got his memories back from reading the name Sakazuki in the newspaper in conjunction with Ace’s death, as though it’s not completely headcanon, I’m going to tear my hair out. I had no issue with this headcanon before, hell I thought it was pretty cute, but seeing so many people comment in YouTube reacts with that as an explanation for Sabo getting his memory back is getting out of hand. It’s not even actually supported by canon, but everybody in the community treats it like fact so I’m gonna debunk it.
There are two ways Sabo could’ve heard the name Sakazuki when he found out Ace died; either he read it in the newspaper article itself or he heard the revolutionaries say it out loud. However, neither of those are actually viable and I’m gonna break down why.
The chain of events for Sabo realizing Ace died is hearing the revolutionaries say out loud “fire fist Ace is dead”, Sabo picks up the newspaper, reads only the headline, sees Ace’s picture which immediately worsens his budding panic attack/flashback, the revolutionaries discuss the events of Marineford in the background, then he passes out. Sabo was already starting to have panic attack as he was going to pick the newspaper up, the moment he saw Ace’s picture is when he completely flipped out and started having flashbacks, I highly doubt he was in any state of mind to read the body of the article.
Even if Sabo somehow did read the full article, it goes onto my next point, Sakazuki would not have been referred to as Sakazuki in the article and was never referred to as such by the revolutionaries; he’s only called his admiral title, Akainu, at this time. The names all of the admirals go by are titles, not their actual names; it’s an understandable thing to miss considering Green Bull (Ryokugyu) is the only title translated literally for some reason. Akainu just means red dog (the admirals seem to have a colour and Chinese zodiac theme). I do think part of the misconception comes from some people not realizing his name isn’t actually Akianu, so it’s not like the newspapers are going to be listing his last and first name as something like Akainu Sakazuki . All this is to say that the newspapers would not be using Sakazuki’s actual name until he becomes fleet admiral in a year; the admirals are never referred to by their actual names unless by people they consider close friends or people being disrespectful. The revolutionaries themselves when discussing the events of the war only ever use the name Akainu, there was no way for Sabo to have heard the name Sakazuki while panicking about Ace.
Look, I get that to a lot of people the Sabo amnesia stuff was not handled in a satisfying way, but there’s a difference between using a headcanon to fill in the gaps and treating a headcanon as a canon explanation when discussing the events of the manga.

Here’s the thing with people shipping Alastor, I could not care less about who people ship Alastor with or whether they ship him at all, what I do care about though is people making him allo.
This is one of the few cannon ace (possibly aro) characters out there and he can 100% be shipped in verity of ways without ignoring he is ace or aroace.
Make him aroace but still platonicly obsessed with Lucifer or Vox.
Make him sex repulsed or indifferent it doesn’t really matter (I could 100% see him having sex with someone for entertainment purposes just like I can see him being sex repulsed).
Even make him Demi/grey-ace if you must show him reciprocating sexual attraction.
Bonus points if he’s aro and you play around with platonic relationships/QPRs.
I know at the end of the day he is a fictional character and people will do what they want, but please listen to aro/ace fans when we ask you not completely ignore his sexuality when there are so many ways you can still play around with his characterization without disrespecting one of the few cannon ace characters to exist in TV.

idk if this is just a very twitteresque thing but there's so much stupid discourse about Neil and his sexuality rn like guys pls go educate yourselves on the absolute minimum basics of demisexuality it's really not a hard concept to grasp
I say this in the most loving way possible as a fellow aro/acespec person can you please let us have our sexualities without it becoming some great discussion and/or denial of such 🫶

I want to do nothing but talk about WoT right now. Is that how you guys live. (SILENTLY VIBRATES)
yeah you either have to talk about it or just reread/rewatch it over and over and yell at robert jordan/rafe and co. for the new bits of foreshadowing you pick up on every time through.
i started reading this series with i was 15 and kept rereading it over and over until the last book came out and then was too sad (and annoyed by brandon sanderson not characterizing some of the main characters very well and making some choices i disagree with in amol) about the end to reread it again for like 7 years until the show made me fall in love with the story once more.
the wheel of time has flaws because it wasn't planned entirely when he started and he died before he could finish it but it's perhaps the single most compelling piece of storytelling I've ever encountered. and i think the people working on the show know exactly how special it is and what makes the story tic.

Friend, I just realized out of the blue that two protags of my favorite fantasy book ever, Spinning Silver, have a very similar romance structure to Pride and Prejudice. Now that I saw it I cannot unsee it, it is Darcy and Elizabeth, only with Fire Demons. The focus is definitely more actiony than the really character focused feel of P&P, but if you're up for some fantasy I canNOT recommend this book enough and Id love your thoughts, because Im finding this so funny actually.
Thanks for telling me! I've been meaning to read more Novik for ages and my father adores Spinning Silver, so I honestly will probably try it once I regain the will to read for fun again, lol, after my defense :)
